Tink - I know I was trying to eat healthy today but there is only one thing to make you feel better on a yucky day.

Yikes!  I am soooo bad.  Even brought 2 spoons so I could share.

Okay, so I became somewhat alarmed at the possible connection between Tamoxifen and hearing loss. I'm what is called "clinically deaf" (I have had nerve deafness since birth, hereditary and passed down to me from my father and grandfather). I STILL haven't taken my pills (they've been in the cupboard for a week), and now with the possibility of losing what little hearing I have left to that pill, that just plain scares me. Ironically, my job is in television and I'm the manager of a government access station and do a lot of communication, so I need to be able to hear at least a little bit. I've been debating getting a cochlear implant, but I'm not sure how it will be affected by the medications. What a twisty mess cancer makes! Up until November, I've already been healthy, with no issues other than a hearing loss and two hospital stays in my entire life (once for my son's birth and once in the 4th grade when I got conked on the head with a shotput (which didn't do any permanent damage thankfully). Now, suddenly I have to worry about stuff I never even thought about, and daggone it -- it sucks!

Chevy...so sorry to hear the news but glad the hearing aid brought you relief and sound....such a precious thing.

ECT- I had 7 nodes removed ,,,,was initially told 2 but 7 were actually removed....none were cancerous....the arm hurt more than the breast did and took longer to heal...and it pains me every few days....enough that a tank top is my friend instead of my beloved underwire bras. I actually felt relieved that they took a few extra...wanted to ensure nothing in the area was affected.

Went to Yoga tonight and my muscle stiffness was not near what it was last week.  My hip joint pain is still there but much better.  I started my tamox last night after a 3 day break from it.  Hopefully some of these SE are starting to subside.

Wow, I am gone for a few days and I am way behind.  Just wanted to let y'all know that the results from my biopsy last week were benign.  I have to meet with the doctor on Wednesday for follow-up.

Ok, now back to catching up!

Dawney//AWESOME NEWS SO GLAD TO HEAR!!!!! Time to celebrate!Smile

JO..Love the flip flops!Cool wishing I could wear mine. looks like I will be back in boots tomorrow sleeting here right now, but soon, very soon, I am bringing those flip flops back out..

Sanndee.. I know what you mean about the arm hurting same here. I had both dissections done total of 14 nodes out, and I go back and forth between tingly ( numbness, dont think I will get the feeling back on the back side of my arm ),and achey. PT said it was NOT  Lymphedema, just the way it was I guess. I do exercises and sometimes that helps especially when the cords build up, but I also have swelling on that side of my breast and chest, That was the cancer side and also the side that clotted during reconstruction so I wonder if all that plays in too... who knows

    nite nite ladies...

Jo/Tink the flip flop Queens.....do you guys have a Hallmark near you?  They sell these flip flops which you can change the top with so many designs and colors.....I love them and I am planning on buying a pair this year.

Chevyboyso sorry to hear about the ear.....praying it is not the Tamox.

Do any of you ladies have a pins and needles feeling in the lower part of the legs?  Mine has started recently and I thought nothing of it the first few times, now I am getting a little worried.....I notices it last night getting out of the tub.....

I agree with Jo that this should be the Silver Bullet Train as I am so many pages behind on reading......time to catch up.....

    June,

My lower legs from about four inches below the knee and my feet have felt tingly and kind of numb off and on for a couple of days.  Thought it might be too much sitting since it is tax season and I'm at my computer most of my waking hours but it has started already this morning.

Morning gals...Joan...!  I'm so sorry you already HAVE hearing loss....Man, I know the feeling.  And I'm still waiting for my Oncologist to call back, to tell her I "give up"...  Don't use me as any authority on the hearing stuff, and I think it has something to do with me being "older!"   Just check all of it out.

The audiologist told me that unless reports of this happening to a LOT of people, and if it doesn't get reported or studied, it won't show up in their SE's book!  But since this happened to me within 3 months, after taking Tamoxifen for 14 months, I just can't believe that is is caused by anything else...  I also read several posts on different threads, that talk about this same thing.

Since you have HAD trouble, & if you think you need aids, try looking at what Costco offers...I'm going there Monday.  Yes, you DO need your hearing...Dang!  We all do...I'm just glad you didn't have "permanent" nerve damage when you had that head injury....I didn't either, years ago....it just started lately!   Just have it checked out...you can get free hearing tests in a lot of places.

Did you try google-ing it?  My one dink friend just wrote me that "You can read anything on the Internet, because anyone can say anything they want, & that none of it is true.  And doctors go through all that training, & they are the only ones we should believe."   So maybe I'm not actually losing my hearing...maybe it's all in my head...Wink Restrain me if I go smack her..... xoxoxoxoox

TEKLYA...Welcome aboard... Start it! I know its scary we were all scared to start, but the alternative is worse than anything else. Start slow if you are hesitant and maybe split the pill, that seems to have worked for alot of us. It is perfectly normally to be scared, but we are all here to support you every step along the way. I have been on Tam since Sept with a week break for surgery. When I went back on after surgery thats when I started slow and split the dose.It has made a big difference. I still have se but between that and exercise and making sure I keep hydrated it is managable!! you can do this!!!!! you go girl :)

CHEVYBOY...question,,, WHY RESTRAIN??? lol,,,, she has no idea what your going through so I will hold her and you can..ok ok ok sorry not the right approach but would release some tension Sealed Let is know what your Onc says. hugs!!!

JUNE..I love those I will have to look for them. Today its a boot day snow and ice Frown I havent had the pins and needles in my legs just my arm and I think thats from the nodes... hope that improves for you June hugs to you too and hug for you too CHABBA!!!

    Thanks Tink.

June - I've only been on Tammy for 4 months. Main SE's have been occasional sleep problems ( up at 4 this morning), dry mouth and toe cramps.  So far minor or manageable.  If the pins and needles continue I'll call my onc.

Teklya - Just go for it.  When I started, I did 10mg the first week and then split the dose for about 2 weeks (breakfast/dinner) and then decided to take the entire pill at breakfast.  I have posted this before but I will repeat it for you.  When I got my script, I went straight to the pharmacy and filled it. Did not give it a second thought, just threw it in the mix with my other pills and haven't looked back since.  I think of it as an added insurance policy.  No sense in fighting it or stressing over it.  I have had minimal SEs - some pains in the toe joints and hot flashes have been reduced to warm waves.

Rest assured we will all be here to support you.

June-Love love love the flip flops think I willl have to see if I can find some.

Teklya-just go for it.  That is what I did.  Been on it two weeks and have had SE effects.  Had to take a three day break and am now back on it, but I know how important it is for us and my MO is working with me on the SE.  Just bite the bullet and do it.

Tekly I went with the 20 mg once a day from the beginning, if my SE continue I may have to switch up a bit.  So far the SE are getting better.

Teklya I started doing 20mg right away and I worried like crazy that I would have major SE and I did not.....little ones that can be annoying as sleepless nights, constipation and fogginess and  word retrieval.  Other than that so many people experience so many different SE....here is hoping when you do jump in with both feet, it will be a piece of cake for you.....speaking of cake, hang around here and Jo takes care of all us ladies with wonderful treats daily.....
