Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?

Has this stand-up movie by Julia Sweeney (of SNL fame) been mentioned? It is called “Letting Go of God” and I personally thought it was so well done, so clearly thought through with many aspects of religion addressed. All with a wonderful and warm sense of humor and respect. It’s something that verbalized a lot of the jumble of concepts that run around in my head, and it’s that’s helped me move past Christianity with less guilt.

Looks most interesting and I will watch it later as it is a bit over 2 hours long.

DivineMrsM,
I don't think diocesan priests take a vow of poverty.

Magiclight, it is long and I ended up watching it over a couple days, but well worth viewing.

Just found this on Facebook. I had to share because for a long time it's something I have thought about prayer.

Ananda8, that hits the nail on the head! Prayer is such a self-serving concept.

So few christians are even aware that most of their rituals were stolen from the pagans they were trying to convert. And boy do they get defensive when you point it out to them, as I do every chance I get. The older I get, the less patience I have for willful ignorance.

Yeah, they really don’t like it when you fire back facts.

In my daughter's college there was a FB group called "In-N-Out is better than Jesus"
0 -
The sad thing is that In-N-Out probably hated that FB page, since they're owned by very religious people. Some of their packaging even has religious quotes.
They're not in your face about it, and they actually do treat their employees really, really well, so I don't mind them as much as something like Chik-fil-a or Hobby lobby. Hate those companies and would never patronize either of them.

We don’t have In n Out here. But do have the other 2. A company can have all the religion they want, as long as they don’t try to shovel it at ME. I never have, or never will darken their doors.

lol to the funny posts. I’m a Seinfeld fan. I’m half Jew (father is non practicing) and half Italian catholic, and was raised catholic. My husband went to catholic school. My kids are nothing. I celebrate Xmas with tons of blowups Santa’s and decorations but no manger or angels. My kids make me go to Chick-fil-A or I would boycott. Hate when they are closed on Sunday. The chocolate peppermint shake is really good though lol.

And the peach milkshake in the summer. But I agree about boycotting.

I’ve never gone to one. Have no intention of going. Don’t care how “great” their stuff is supposed to be. Don’t shove your religion down my throat and I’ll support your business. McDs is open on Sunday if I need a chicken sandwich and so is KFC.

It seems that if a seller of any merchandise wears a cross then sales go up. Just look at the cross placement worn by that pillow guy. I say placement, because it is so obviously placed. I will buy anything other than from a guy who uses religion as a sales ploy. More and more I'm seeing tv characters wearing crosses when religion has nothing to do with the script.

I am so tired of people pointing to the ceiling or sky. It is so staged.

I was just on FB, and one too many people on a news post about the embassy situation said they were praying. So I asked one if she ever got back with her God after any kind of disaster and complained about his lousy aim. 😈

I was watching some show recently about a hostage situation and one of the guys who survived it said (paraphrasing) he wasn't worried about dying because he had accepted Jesus as his savior. He also said that he made it out alive because God wanted him to live to produce his daughter, ("She's the reason God saved me, to have her.")
Do they have any idea how fucking arrogant they sound? Really? So the ones who did die weren't 'good' enough? They didn't bow down far enough? The creator of the entire Universe, the entity who sits back and allows thousands of children to die of starvation, be molested, natural disasters, rape, murder, etc., stops what he's doing to save YOU so you can create your daughter all because you say a few silly meaningless words? Wow, I had no idea you were so fucking special.
Wake up to reality and see what an arrogant, brainwashed, deluded fool you are.
Same goes to everyone who points to the sky/ceiling. You must really be special if your imaginary sky daddy is paying any attention to you at all.
FWIW, Wendy's has the best chicken sandwich, so skipping Chik-Fil-A is easy.
Now, having said all of that, I wish for more apathy toward religion in the new year. I was happier when I didn't give a shit. Of course, they have to stop forcing their delusions on the country, so the magic 8 ball says "outlook not so good" (which, btw, is just as accurate as prayer, so there ya go.)
Happy New Year, everyone. May health and happiness surround you.

Good to know about Wendy's. There's one within walking distance. I think there's a Chik-fil-a somewhere in Seattle. I haven't looked to see where because I have no intention of ever going there. I have been inside Hobby Lobby to see what's there, but I don't shop there. Ever.
Happy New Year to all. May it bring health, peace and happiness.
I saw a reference to a book that looked interesting. The title is Words in Pain: Letters on Life and Death, by Olga Jacoby. She was a non believer who's doctor thought she should get religion since her diagnosis was terminal. These are letters written to the doctor explaining her position. She basically believed in nature from the excerpt.
