it annoyed me to no end when friends and strangers would pat me on the shoulder and tell me just turn it over to God he'll take care of you or you have cancer because you're an atheist. No, I have cancer because I was damned unlucky. For the most part I respect other right to practice their religious beliefs as long as they're not shoving it down my throat. It would be nice if my religious family members and Friends would respect my atheism. I didn't believe in God prior to my cancer diagnosis and I still don't believe in God 3 years post my diagnosis. When I was diagnosed with cancer in Dec. 2017, I did become less patient with others who either wanted to blame me for having cancer or suggesting God was testing me. My goal everyday is to be the best person I can be. Some moments are better than others. I'm one of those people who follow the science. Contrary to what many religious people believe their beliefs are not based on science. I'm back after taking an 18-month Hiatus from breast cancer.org. I really enjoy reading your post.

Has anyone ever snuck a peek at the religious threads? I haven't, but I saw the Catholic one pop up today and I was sooo tempted to ask if Catholic cancer is different than Methodist or Jewish or Baha'i or any other kind. Like, are the tumors cross-shaped? Do they have Jesus' face on their breasts?

For some strange reason. I don't think that would go over very well, Alice. Just a guess on my part.๐Ÿ˜

It drives me BONKERS when religious people say that their god saved them from cancer or heart disease or a hangnail or whatever. You gonna give a god credit, you better also give it the blame for what went wrong in the first place. But at least it's not as obnoxious as the loud public thanks to their god for getting through some disaster, when other people died in it. Yeah, your god saved your pervy husband but killed that 3-year-old kid, nice work there!

Exactly, Alice. How can people be so singular-minded?

Iโ€™m also not a fan of those who run around declaring, โ€œIโ€™m blessed!โ€ Gee. I guess the person who just lost their teenage daughter in a motorcycle accident didnโ€™t make the โ€œIโ€™m blessedโ€ cut. Or the guy who retired early only to learn the next week he had stage iv pancreatic cancer and died four months later. Sorry, sir, you did not get the โ€œblessing.โ€ I feel the better expression is โ€œIโ€™m grateful.โ€ I am thankful for so much inmy life but not because somehow Iโ€™m โ€œblessedโ€ as if god curried more favor upon me than someone else.

I know SO many people, Catholic and protestant and other, who go on and on about how wonderful the current pope is. He's just got a better PR sense. It's still the same old, same old, he just wraps it in a warm and fuzzy blanket. The only things he's said that I thought were good had to do with things that weren't about catholic rules in the first place.

At least he's not part of the Inquisition like the previous one. I loved the meme with the gay union being from the devil and the pervs being part of the church. I have no problem with consenting adults doing any sort of sexual combination. Going for children just screws them up for life. I worked in a community mental health clinic and sexual abuse was in almost all the women's background and at least half of the men.

As of today, the pope gave permission for Catholics to receive J&J Covid vaccine if it is the only one available. What century am I living in? People are dying, there is a solution, imperfect as it is, but Catholics need permission to get the J&J vaccine. I'm sure many Catholic women/girls had abortions due to priestly 'encounters'. So glad I left that organization decades ago.

Hannah Gadsby art, paintings, sculptureThis is a little off track from the atheist topic, but in an irreverent way quite a humorous take on classic religious art by comedian Hannah Gadsby. I've watched her Netflix shows several times and particularly reference the arts segments highlighting the 'Lactation of St. Bernard'.

Hannah Gadsby's Douglas: Here's every work of art featured in the new Netflix special from the creator of Nanette. (slate.com). Unfortunately you need to watch Nanette to get the full comedic presentation.

Alice: I saw your post about popping in to look at "religious" posts on BCO. I did. WOW. I cannot say that loud enough. At the beginning of the pandemic there were dozens of posts announcing it was God's judgment for all of our transgressions. I had to read more. Maybe I like having my blood boil or my head explode. It was so beyond crazy. They deserve to have God come down and slap them upside the head. Except HE doesn't exist to do the slapping. How can people who claim to believe in "The Prince of Peace" think it is okay to say people deserve to get sick and die? If one of them succumbed to Covid would the others say "Well, she must have done something bad. Maybe she didn't believe strongly enough" Yeah yeah "The virus is strong but God is more powerful and will save us" He didn't do such a good job on your breast health, did He?

I am getting my covid jab this afternoon, without the Pope's blessing!

Holy crap. Or unholy? I can't go look because I am NOT good about keeping my mouth shut (why I've been in FB jail several times). I almost wish for an afterlife and some sort of goddy creature just so those self-righteously cruel types can get that slap into hell they deserve.

I deplore the idea that the coronavirus is God's way of punishing us for transgressions. Total shit. You mean a woman raising 4 children dies and she's more or less collateral for what Hector the serial killer did? But he's still alive in prison and the woman's children are now motherless, and that in some ungodly way is God's will????!!!! I mean, there are a gazillion stories to tell to show how it does not make sense.

And what exactly ARE these 'transgressions' of which they speak? You mean that dad, a father of two, who cared for his wife while she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer is now dead of Covid19 because some men sleep with men and some women sleep with women but Peter pedophile priest is still alive and hanging out here on earth? It truly makes no sense.
