Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?

I've decided to get a t-shirt made that says, "I've given up HAIR for Lent."
Or would that be too offensive?

Layne, I didn't get to my oncologist. I was prepared with weight in the back of my pickup truck to give me traction. The doc's office called in the morning and said if I wasn't having problems it might be best to reschedule because my appointment wasn't until mid afternoon. Probably a good plan. So, it's another two weeks before I get in.
We're all battened down with both vehicles crammed into our driveway with my RV, tons of food and candles, and quilt projects to work on.
Michele, I think your t-shirt idea sounds great!

Hi ladies, I was watching the zeitgeist movie recently and the intro to the section about religion made me think of y'all here on this thread. I just found a link that contains just that part:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRCBjqC-IVc
Hope you get a good chuckle out of it. I sure did. I lost track of the link to the entire movie, and there's an 'addendum' version that's more recent. It's definitely not a comedy, so don't go there looking for comic relief, but I think anyone who 'thinks outside the box' would find it interesting.
Konakat, so sorry I fizzled on getting that cake baked for you last month. I'll send you a pm when I have it baked to make sure your address is still the same.

What a small world Althea, I watched that movie yesterday at my 28 yr old sons' house after having it on my 'must watch' list for a long time. I was thinking of posting the link to it on here, as a matter of interest to all, and here you've done it for me,
Thank you,
Sheila.

Not to worry Althea!! Just the thought of you thinking of sending me cake makes me smile!

We got blasted with snow and drifts, but I did go out today to do some necessary shopping. The highways are fine, though some lanes have snow in them making them impassable. We didn't lose power, so are warm, safe, and have enough food in the larder to make it through awhile.

Hurray! So GREAT to hear from our east coast pals, and that you're safe, warm and well-fed! Now, if only you could ship that snow out to Vancouver for the Olympics...cuz I'm sure you'd like to get rid of it, and the sooner the better!
Changing the subject a tad --- I'm a major Daily Show and Colbert Report fan. For those of you who watch Colbert, have any of you managed to catch the (made-up) words that cascade down the screen at the show's opening? One that caught my eye was "applepious" -- struck me as especially funny......

That's the late George Carlin voice in the Youtube clip. Hilarious.

Good find leprechaun. I love George Carlin.
Letterman had Joe Wong on his show last night with some jokes this group will probably like

editing to add ps, I hope this thread doesn't self destruct. The indexing is all messed up, saying I'm on page 59 of 55 when I add a new post.

Geez .. I had to search for this forum!
Layne .. this weather sucks .. and more is on the way. I used to love VA .. but now I hate it!
I've been so sad about the loss of my beloved Bobo last fall, that today we went to the Humane Society and we brought home Tank. He's 2 1/2 months and a lab/rott mix. He already weighs 23 lbs and truly is a TANK!!

Hi:
I wouldn't call myself an atheist but 80% agnostic. I try to keep an open mind that anything is possible. It has gotten on my nerves when friends tell me that they will pray for me, but I know they mean well. I do beleive in positive energy and karma and I have a lot of life experiences where rotten things have happened, but years later, I kinda see why they did. So, I think there is something in this universe, I'm just not sure what. Even though it might be irritating to you when people mention prayer to you, try not to take offense to it. I'm sure they mean well.
Best of luck to you,
Linda

I am an atheist and my belief is if there was a god then there wouldn't be breast cancer, wars, global warming, etc. I do believe breast cancer is man made by the chemicals and hormones in our food supply. No amount of praying is going to save my breast but good nutrition, natural medicine combined with real science is what is going to save me.

Bren, what an adorable dog! I am sorry that you lost Bobo. I hope that Tank brings you many adventures and lots of love. And Madalyn, I am so sorry that you lost Kala (and Murphy). My husband and I lost our 12 1/2 year old basset hound right before Thanksgiving, and our grief has been intense. Our home is so different without her; our LIFE is so different without her (we had her since she was about 6-8 weeks old). I don't know when we will get another dog from the humane society; my husband is just not "ready" yet. We got a Rainbow Bridge card from our vet and thought it was sweet; we have been comforted by so many wonderful stories, memories, and photos of her life with us.

What a lovely puppy

I had lost this thread. Glad to see it up. Best wishes to you all.

Madalyn .. I am so sorry for the loss of your Kayla. It breaks my heart. Tank and Maggie (the bordercollie mix) are best friends after only 2 days!
Brenda .. Bobo died the last week of August and I was still grieving .. he was a HUGE dog and took up a lot of space in our heart and home. My rainbow bridge card sits on my desk with a picture of me and Bobo as puppy .. I'm laughing and he's licking my ear!!
A friend called me last Friday as she had just lost her beloved companion Dahlia. We cried together and I was so sad for both of us. I didn't think I would ever get another dog. I cried myself to sleep last night .. overwhelmed and wondering .. what the hell was I thinking.
I lost my job last fall and Tim's work has been slow ... the adoption fee would have paid for about 50 gallons of heating fuel and I used the last of our credit to pay the fee.
Layne .. being from San Diego, this weather is really taking a toll on me. I didn't mind the first two snowstorms .. but this last one is more than I can take. I'll sit outside in 34 degree weather with the wind howling .. just to get some sun on my face. I heard I-95 was a total mess .. glad you and hubbie got home safely.
Everytime Tim drives up I-81, I get nervous .. thank goodness he didn't have to travel I-95 yesterday.
A big welcome to all the newcomers on this thread.
Leprechaun .. thank you .. I hope your wife is feeling better today.
love to all,
me

I too am an atheist - well, for 98%.
We lost one of our two dogs June 6 2009. Her sister grieved for almost 6 months but now she is getting over it a bit I think, although she is be no means yet the dog she was when her sister was still alive.
There is so much misery and suffering in this world, nut just for humans but for the innocent animals as well, that I find it hard to believe a God would allow all that and I find it easier to accept that there is no God and it is up to us to make this world a better place.

Awwwww Madalyn, so sorry for your loss. I'm still in shock and mourning over my little Dahlia. I called Bren up and we both cried our eyes out. I haven't been to this thread in a while.....just checking in.
Loved the youtube flicks.....I needed to laugh!!!!
Bren.....Hugs X 100
We don't always see things as they are, we see them as we are.

I lost both my dogs and a cat in the last two years...such a heartache :<
BinVa - what an adorable puppy!! I oldest dog was a lab rott mix and he was the BEST! I was protective, but didn't bark unless necessary. He loved to chew wood so we gave him lots of of logs to carry around. That mix is very sweet and smart so you will enjoy him!

Blue .. I LOVE the pic of you and Dahlia .. two such pretty girls. I know you are heartbroken over losing her. Call again soon .. I miss you and love you.
Hi Lisa .. so far, at 2 1/2 months, he's driving me nuts. He carries big sticks around outside .. and we have a lot of them from all the snow and branches breaking. I stupidly thought he would be potty trained in two days! He looks a lot like a lab .. so I hope some of the rotti starts to show through as he gets older. I feel safer with a big dog around. He's very busy and runs very, very fast .. much more active than my old Bobo was. He's worn out my border collie!!!
love to all,
Bren

Linda: You are correct, most prayers offered are non-offensive. They don't work, and only take up the time of the person praying, so it doesn't bother me one way or the other. It's the back-handed insult prayers that are annoying. Such as: I just had an "acquaintance" tell me she was going to pray for me. . . .that I find Jesus before the cancer kills me.
Nice.
But, frankly, I had no idea he was on the milk-carton circuit. Oh, and cancer isn't going to kill me. Just sayin'
Madalyn: so sorry to hear about your loss. We lost our yorkie's mate last spring. She was one of those smiling dogs. Her mate, Murdock, has been at a loss ever since. He's more clingy to us now. I mean, dogs are pack animals to begin with, but his pack got smaller and he still hasn't adjusted. As a non-theist, I take great pleasure in believing in whatever the heck fairy tale I feel like believing in. To me, Middle Earth and Hobbits are "real," as is the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm a pagan - non-Wiccan, I'm of a Thracian tradition. We view the relationship with the Gods and Goddesses very differently - we view them as forces of the Universe, not really bothering to chime in all the time in our human lives. we connect with nature, animals, weather, etc. We regard prayers as someone willing to share their life force for the one in need. Many people have graciously told me they would pray for me and I thanked them all. I have no hard feelings for people of a different religion - for us the Ultimate Divinity is the same, no matter the name.
The way I see what is happening to me - well, it's harsh, but on one hand, we believe that we are given many lives on this Earth (and others) so we can learn and become Pure Spirit. On the other hand, we also believe in the Light and the Dark (explanation is the closest to the Western view, but it's not exact) and for us, diseases, accidents, wars, etc, are all the work of the Chaos (that's what we call Evil, if you want). We strive for balance in everything, and one has to find the strength in themselves, no matter what they are going through.
I can say I have gone through several transformations in my life already - but ths one is the hardest.I am an energy healer and a herbologist - this mostly made mego to the Dr, I could feel the patterns of my body being disturbed. I do trust (most times)conventional medicine, because even if many things can be cured by my tradition's way of healing, much of the knolwedge has been lost, so for some thingswe still go to the conventional medicine.
I am glad I had found this thread - I was thinking I'm a "rara avis" around here.
Beautiful dog - I had a "knight in shiny black armor" myself, a huge mix of Great Dane and Newfoundland (people thought he was an oversized Rottweiler), he died in 2007 of an osteosarcoma of the femur.
His page is here:

Hello!
I am an atheist too ! Everytime someone said to me "we are praying for you", all I wanted to say was: "don't bother!"

Wouldn't it be great if all the praying people would do it on an exercise bike that is hooked to batteries..and we could harness all that energy

Hello everyone, ltnp for me. I'm sorry to hear for the loss of the pets. Congrats to those getting new puppies. I just did the same about a month ago. I have missed my little pom that I had years ago, she had the best personality of any little dog I have ever had. I finally found some in the paper (or I should say my sister found them and called me). My husband was not thrilled with stopping to look at them after I had a chemo treatment, and I did end up buying the little angel. He was very not happy but didn't say anything until just the other day. He told me that as much as he hated to admit it he was very glad I got her. Not only has she turned out to be my hubbies dogs best friend she makes me laugh and smile again. Something I was finding hard to do through treatment, with hair loss and pain and just feeling like hell. She gets in my face and kisses and wiggles all over every day telling me how happy she is to see me. She follows me all over the house, was house trained in less then a month and is just a bundle of joy for all of us. Even my doctor wondered what I was doing getting a puppy in the middle of treatment. She is the best medicine I could possibly imagine and a complete joy for me to have.
Currently at work and havent gotten any pictures uploaded, when I get home will have to look at the pics that others have posted and get something uploaded of my little angel. Her name btw is Wee Bear as in a Wee little bear.
Wishing everyone well
Cathi

I'm sorry, carolsd, but this is a support thread for people who are not religious. Posting a religious video (even though it has dogs in it) seems disrespectful to me.
