Cindy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Nice to see you!  Ugh, the weather.  Soon it will be spring -- the first day of spring is my favourite day of the year.

bluedahlia said: "Not in a typing mood tonite and although I disagree with some of the attitudes, you have a right to them as do I."

And that is exactly what I'm saying. We may disagree with how someone else perceives something, but we should not invalidate them simply because we don't agree.

So not only does someone have the right to be annoyed that a religious-themed "something" is posted in this thread, that person's "attitude" is completely valid, as is the one of a person who does not mind.

If one feels she simply must post something of a religious nature in a clearly non-theist thread, then at least have the courtesy to put a disclaimer in the post that the link is of a religious nature, or contains religious material, so those who come here to avoid that sort of thing can still avoid it.

Hey, Elizabeth! Good to see you, too. I've been lurking on the boards, but not posting. I seem to go in waves of participation and non-participation! :D

And "Ugh, the weather," indeed! Can't wait for daffodils. Sigh.

    crs319,

I have reported your post because this is a board for atheists.  It was set up so we can have some relief from the constant talk about gods and theistic religion in general.

Please respect this thread and the people on it.

Cindy ... yeah for CRANKY!!!  Lately that's been my first, middle and last name.

Elizabeth ... my daffodils are starting bloom.  I don't get it.  They come up in the snow and cold and are so lovely.  Today we have some kind of snow pellets falling.  I'm getting depressed.  Is there a sun god I can pray to???

Eze .. when Blue says she's not in a typing mood ... she means she's can't type anymore ... her Parkinson's has got the best of her and she can't hit the keys.

This forum is my favorite on BCO.  Many pages back we talked about how we all arrived at the place we are at in our beliefs.  It was really interesting.  Many of us were born into non-theist families, some into Catholic, etc., and evolved into where we are now.  I'm one who has evolved over time.

I've talked before about the grieving process I've gone through over the loss of my faith.  It was a death to me .. and grieving the loss is natural.

I love my Christian and non Christian friends.  But like Eze, Notself and Gryffin have written, it's a welcome relief to have a place to come to where I'm not being told god is going to heal me.  It's also nice not to be told that my diet is going to heal me or my stupid positive attitude (which by the way is quite cranky these days).

If anything is going to heal me ... it might be Tank.  He's so cheerful and funny.

    hugs,

    Bren

"Gryffin .. do you have some pics of your greyhounds???"

Here are a couple of pics from our recent snowstorm. The greyhound is Gryffin, my boy who has osteosarcoma. My mom made his fleece jacket. The two little ones are Walker (the larger blue boy) and Willow (the tiny seal). For those unfamiliar with Italian greyhounds, they're small, with Willow weighing in at a bit under seven pounds, and Walker about twelve pounds. Compare that to Gryffin who's about seventy pounds. Cool The last picture is of four of my IGs. Rosie is the black and white girl, Merlin is the little blue boy. Luna is the fawn girl and the little seal is Willow again.

Yea! We are back to dogs and mighty pretty ones at that.

    GryffinSong,

Your Greyhounds are beautiful.  One of my best friends rescues greyhounds.  She says they are the max.

Thanks, notself. Yeah, they totally rock! Gryffin is ten years old, and he's the best dog I've ever known. I can't stand it that he has cancer. If I didn't have the little ones I'd get another retired racer in a heartbeat.

Gryff ... thanks for sharing .. such beautiful babies.  I've heard nothing but wonderful things about greyhounds and how they are such loving dogs, especially the retired racers.  I am so sorry for your baby with cancer.  It just tears us up when we know the end is coming.  I hung on to Bobie for so long .. and then one morning I woke up, called my sis to come down .. and said, we have to take him now.  He was in pain for some time and hung on just for me.  This was late last August, and I still cry over him.

I see you're in MD, so they do need their winter coats.  Mine love the snow!  Crazy dogs!  I'll post some more pics.

Layne ... so glad to see you!  Did you get any of this snow today???  I'm ready to shoot myself.  Apollo and Horus can't even cheer me up!

Weather has been strange this year, unless you talk to the old timers around here that say its all part of the cycle they have seen years ago. Feburary the tulips are coming up strong, no snow unless you head up to the mountains and it can be found there. I'm looking forward to an early growing season, get some fresh vegies and strawberries coming up in our gardens. Yes I said plural as my husband gets carried away and has to plant multiple gardens. LOL

It seems alot of folks are finding the same great healing properties that I have found and that is doggie lovin. They know when you need that extra lick and cuddle don't they?

Warm thoughts and hugs to all

I just looked out the window to assess the snowfall here in Niagara (hmmm, about 1/2 inch) and saw my neighbour walking her rescue greyhound.  Yes, he (beautiful dog) was wearing a very fashionable coat!

I grew up with dogs (border collies, which is how I got MY exercise!) but became a cat person when I married another cat person.  Yes we both love dogs, but appreciate the lesser demands of felines.  Now I have to go to the gym regularly........Tongue out

    Hugs to all,  Linda

    Hi Friends,

I don't have any kitty pics!  Maybe Layne has some of her furbabies.

Did any of you watch Taboo on NatGeo last night?  It was a repeat of naked people in religious ceremonies.  I had never seen this one before.  OMG.  One of the clips was of a Roman Catholic man living in Vermont who is a naturalist and lives completely naked.  Even in the snow.  He holds Bible studies in his home naked.  BTW .. he's also blind.  After seeing the other Bible study members, I believe this to be an asset for him.  Anyway, they all get together and strip down and he hold Catholic Bible classes.  Apparently the other Catholic churches in the region are pretty upset by this.

Another clip showed a Pagan ceremony of naked worshipers.  What was interesting was the Pagan leader witch indicated that to be a pagan you needed to embrace the philosphy of ritual.  This was compared to all the ritual of the Catholic church, except there was more ritual in the Pagan religion.

Another clip showed a naked ritual in the Shinto religion in Japan.  A young man from a village volunteers to run naked through the street (about 300 yards) so that all the other men can touch him for good luck.  The idea is that he takes on all their bad luck and they get good luck.  This poor man was beaten and torn up by the time he got to the end.  Then the priests perform a ceremony to rid him of all the bad luck he collected.  This was compared to Jesus taking our sins on the cross.

Another ritual in the Philipines was shown where the crucifixion was reinacted, right down to nailing a naked man on a cross.

I thought the whole thing was interesting ... first the naked part .. and then all the rituals involved in not only Christian religions, but all kinds of religions.

BTW .. it's freezing cold here and windy today.

    love,

    Bren

In India there are followers of the Jain religion that live the naked life.  The naked are holy men.

I find it interesting that the other thing besides nakedness that many religions have in common is the fact that the religious men tend to wear funny hats and dresses.  The Pope, Shinto priests, the Dalai Lama, the Bishop of Canterbury, and Jewish Rabbis all wear funny hats and dresses during religious ceremonies.

It is all sort of strange.

    Omygosh! What beautiful babies, Madalyn!

Love the mat they're lounging on, too!

My daughter's cat is a dead ringer for the smoky one. Her sons named her "Turkey." The two older ones thought it would be funny if their baby brother (who was just learning to talk when they got her) thought that the word "turkey" meant cat.

    Scamps!

Here's my pretty kitty that we had to "let go" just recently. He was diagnosed with dementia and had gotten to the point he was hurting himself.

He has a thing for sleeping in the middle of our holiday decorations:

Asleep in the wreath before we put it up:

Asleep in the Halloween Candy Basket before we filled it: (my youngest grandson, Isaac, in the background):

    Beautiful cats and grandson!

I had cats quite some time ago. All rescues. At various times a red tabby boy, a deaf white boy, a torbie girl, a blue point tonkinese girl and a seal tortie point siamese girl. They were all special, but I had a special soft spot in my heart for my dear siamese. She was the extreme, pointy-nose kind with HUGE ears and we held long conversations. I miss them all.

Yes, they love each other so much, it's unbelievable. I think if they were littermates or mother and son and they wouldn't be this bonded. Maya was 3 1/2 years old when I got Whisper, and she "adopted" him as her brother on the spot! Whisper has a diary on his page, you can go back and read how it was.

That is exactly how my cat treats my husband.  My cat wouldn't dare treat me this way because he thinks I am his mom and treats me with respect.  Wink
