You didn't offend me barbe1958. I enjoyed the laugh. I suppose Zicam will be coming out with a vibrator to shorten the duration of the common cold.

YW Kathi. I too have tears -- it is just not fair.

OMG, AlaskaDeb? This is such sad sad news.

mzmiller. Thanks for your hug, I really needed that. 3 more homes to visit today....going in old clothes, because of the smells I expect to encounter !!!! I shall find something if I keep on looking. My puppies are Cavalier King Charles, this is my second litter so far this year, just hoping I shall find homes for them all, if not I shall be overrun with them !!!
So sorry to hear about Deb, what will we do without her humour ?? I hate this disease, was going to say something a little stronger, but might have my post 'deleted by the community'
Isabella.

Who sent this white stuff? It has not stopped since I woke up... It is pretty and I am glad I do not have to go out. Gonna make cabbage soup and have some left over french bread. I should not complain, as this is the first snow of the season and I do NOT live in a tropical climate !!
Hugs for ((((((((( all ))))))))))))))), Nancy

OK ladies, I have my annual OB/GYN appt this morning, my doc has left so I have new doc. She's a little kooky, seems puzzled when I respond, "triple negative" when she asks if I "know what kind of bc I had", so I follow up with, "oh, IDC", which also seems to puzzle her. Anyway, she asks me what "paternal" means for family history of bc, at this point I'm really starting to wonder, does she not know what "paternal" means? Anyway, I tell her the admittedly sucky history (grandmother and her 3 sisters all dead of bc pre-men, 2 aunts, 2 cousins), she is noting this information in her computer, and says, and I quote:
"gee, you were pretty much doomed from the start huh?"
Really? Did you really just say that? I was so shocked I didn't say anything. She then proceeded to tell me that there was a link between BRCA and colon cancer (this is news to me, and apparently to the high risk bc onc at Dana Farber.)
"GEE, YOU WERE PRETTY MUCH DOOMED FROM THE START, HUH?"
Thanks lady!
And that is my IOS for the day!

we should find the anaesthesiologist that said I was a "waste of valuable medical resources" and shot gun marry him to your ob-gyn "gee you were pretty much doomed from the start, huh". How do these insensitive people get through medical school. Sounds to me that they waited for the accreditation before opening their mouths.
You were not DOOMED. You had a family history of. It could have skipped you and your entire generation. Maybe one day she will have something serious. Do you think she will consider herself someone doomed. If so, she will do nothing to advance medical history.
All I can say is either get a new ob-gyn or laugh at her... until she gets it right.

cbm, I think the one "doomed" is your Obgyn. She ougtta get another career. Where she doesn't deal with actual humans.

No IOS can compete with the loss of Deb.
Traci - hearts to you for passing on the information. It must have been so difficult to get the news. I hope you are doing ok.
Puts a lot of stuff in perspective. Damn f'n disease. damn damn damn.

Dream and Sharon - thanks friend, and I forgot about that fool anesthesiologist! eye roll and head shake at some of the folks that choose the medical profession...
Pam - I hear ya, and honestly, not that it wasn't completely ridiculous for my DOCTOR to be musing out loud about how I'm doomed, the loss of our sweet Deb is what made me go off the deep end about it. Hugs to you friend.
Hang in there today everyone...

Oh, cmb, I was only talking about my IOS, not yours.
Seriously, that doctor should be put out with the trash. I cannot imagine sitting there & hearing a medical professional tell me I was doomed. I'd give her doomed....right across the noggin.

I've spent the last hour catching up only to see this very sad news---the loss of Deb is so difficult to read......
May the angels lead her into paradise & take her to the holy city!
Be well & stay strong---HUGS

Pam - I knew that! Just meant it was the news about Deb that really made it impact me beyond just thinking, "what a lunkhead" about the doctor. I think losing Deb has left us all, I don't know, just adrift I guess...
A hearty that sux to all...

Very aptly put cmb........adrift.

I hope this is not offensive to anyone, but I always try to imagine what the missing person would tell us now if they could contact us......
From what I know of Deb she'd bellow to us to keep living, loving & laughing! Then she'd tell us she's grabbed a great table on the dance floor & is saving us all seats..........so we should take our time about joining her.....
HUGS

It's a little less scarey knowing so many of our gals are waiting at that table Saint.

Colleen, I hope you plan to 86 that nitwit gyn!
I feel like I shouldn't bitch about anything today when I think about Deb, but I do have another IOS that is sort of horrible in a fairly harmless way. So, for the entertainment value of all of us getting a good groan out of this, here goes:
I'm feeling much better from the headcold, the drugs are working, although I'm still not running on all pistons. My non-chemo cancer brain has been really bad lately & worse with this cold. Hence denting my patient's garage door, etc., etc. So, I'm up & about today, don't have to go to work till tomorrow, decide to do a few productive things, so I wash some lingerie in the bathroom sink. I go to rinse it out, and --------- I forget about it. For a long time. So, about ten years later, I discover that I've flooded my first floor bathroom, hallway & part of my basement. So, I've been spending the last hour sucking up the water in the basement with a rather small but effective shop vac & dumping the water in my washing machine to pump it out. Bad news is, I flooded about half the basement floor; good news is, I have a small house & consequently a small basement & I had nothing of particular value actually on the floor, just crap that I can throw out if I have to. There are no walls crumbling (so far) or anything, I have the dryest basement (ordinarily) in Rhode Island, & I have heat down there, so I think I'll be all right. But this was not exactly the plan for this afternoon.
So, with great feeling, I give you all a large THIS SUCKS!!!!

KAK are you ok after all that work? Did the lingerie survive or float to some more embarassing place? Thank you for a more lighthearted post. I needed it.
0 -
OMG Kathi---that's one of those I'd rather just walk away from & let someone else field!
THAT SUX!!!!!!
0 -
Next time throw the lingerie in the washing machine. What a mess to clean up.
0 -
And you know, I was just bragging to someone that my washing machine has this great extra gentle cycle for even the most delicate stuff, but do I use it today?? Oh, nooooooo.........
0 -
P.S. Dream, my lingerie survived. It was actually a pair of way cool tights I bought recently & just wore & I was washing them for the first time so I wanted to be nice to them. Here's a photo from the website where I bought 'em & then maybe you'll all understand why I washed them in the sink, if not why I forgot to turn the faucet off.
So, are they worth flooding the basement & spending the afternoon shop-vac'ing??? Noooooooooo, but they were on sale for $12, so what can you do?
0 -
WOW, they are beautiful though.
0 -
My daughter would absolutely love them and she has the legs for them..... sigh
0 -
So, see? I'm not totally whacked. I got them at www.ModCloth.com, by the way, which has great tights & fun clothes.
But the fun doesn't end there, ladies, because I wanted to run my dehumidifier down there to help out the drying process, but when I turned it on, it made this loud clacking noise. So, I got out my Phillips head screwdriver & took the case off the top, turned the thing over & shook it a little. And what falls out of the fan blades??? A dead mousey!! It had been dead long before I turn on the dehumidifier, by the way, so it wasn't like a total gross-out or anything.
However, my humidifier is now working. Oh, I just can't wait to get back to work tomorrow!! We're going to be having a snowstorm!!
