Apparently its a shot. That's what I thought. I called and talked to the nurse and she said that my bug is resistant to all the typically available antibiotics. They've sent the specimen to a different lab and don't expect results, or a treatment option, until Monday, probably Tuesday. My sister, the nurse, said I should plan to stay here and get the proper report/medicine whenever they call me. I'm just hangin with a UTI til they get results back. kinda crappy. My hip shots are sched for Tues. Between my kidneys and my lumbar I can't tell which hurts the most.

Theres just nothing nice about being in pain. People who have helped out are getting worn out. I want to go to the beach... we've been doing it same week for 10 years. Picking different beaches to visit, getting the lingo right so we get a place that has a balcony facing the ocean, making a bucketfull of frozen margaritas and boiling shrimp. We stay out on the sand allllllll day long and never quit talking. She's gonna be really upset. I've NEVER cancelled, and I usually stay the entire week. And it's usually the only time we get to be together. It's hurting me just thinking about them going and me not. DAMN.

Connie, GO TO THE BEACH! You'll still have your UTI whether you're at home miserable or on the beach peeing yourself laughing! Life is too short. Let someone take a message from the doc...

Call the doctor's office and give the phone # where you will be and number of a pharmacist near by.  You can take a pill no matter if at home or at the beach..   My opinion.

    Connie,

I was told by an European doctor that for UTI resisiting to antibiotics this was a good choice

    Furadantine - General Information:
A urinary anti-infective agent effective against most gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. Although sulfonamides and antibiotics are usually the agents of choice for urinary tract infections, nitrofurantoin is widely used for prophylaxis and long-term suppression.

Maybe you could talk about this with your doctor . Never tried it but just wanted to let you know. Hope you can make that trips sound like a lot of fun!!

    Welga

Hey everryone... .Furantoin is the one that gave me the Hives. The Hives left a huge blister on my good boob and now the whole breast is swollen, with an open wound. I dont know why the breast is swollen, but it is and it hurts. what about getting injectables? isnt that just a shot?  or is it a series? or is it getting an IV?  What comes after macrobid?

3jaysmom -- that really sucks.  Have you been on Zometa or Aredia too?  They can cause jaw problems too.

Connie -- go to the beach!  Have you tried any antihistamines for the hives/swelling?  Just make sure you know where the nearest hospital is and try to have a good time in the sand and surf.

Connie - just throwing this in as an aside - I had chronic UTI and/or yeast infections in my teens and 20s despite cotton panties, etc.  I finally started going commando kind of accidently, and I now stay UTI and yeast free - unless I have to wear panties for some reason.  I swear - for the past 20+ years I've only gotten UTI when I have to wear underwear for more than two days (not the same panties, obviously).  Maybe it does something to the temperature?  or the circulation?  or who knows?  I know this does nothing for your current condition, which I'm very sorry for - believe me, I know it's miserable.  I do agree with everyone else - if at all possible - go to the beach and hang with your GFs.

All things considered. I've decided not to go. It makes me very, very sad but I really do want to get better and a 4 hour drive on tires I don't trust is stressful. Plus, the beach is work, lugging chairs, coolers, luggage, going up and down stairs, watching the sunset in an orange sky with nothing better to do than watch the sunset with your toes in the warm sand.... oops... I'm not going there. There will be next year, and we will pick a place closer to Savannah.

I could still go, but I don't feel good and I have -0- energy now. I don't expect that to improve until they find the right antibiotic, and I just have to wait and be prepared to receive it and let it make me better... by #1. NOT stressing myself more than I do now just getting out of bed.

Thanks for all the good wishes, the beach will be there next May. And we do have one here if I really need to be near the shore and surf. Right now, I need to be here, the family needs me and the cousins will miss me, but they will understand.

Sorry you didn't make the beach Connie but if your heart wasn't in it you wouldn't have had fun.

Just the other day I saw a list of the top 10 most beautiful cities and towns in the US and Savannah was number one.  You live in a beautiful part of the world, and if I remember correctly you have a pool -- so pretend you're a lady of leisure, make a pitcher of mojitos (or cranberry martinis, whatever's good), grab a good book and lounge.  Hugs,

THANKS  for the support. It means a lot. I'm only missing it A LOOOOOOOOOT. And its a perfect day.

There was a force telling me not to go this year. I dunno if it was the ridiculous incident of allergic rash and burn, the chemical resistance to the first round of antibiotics, the pain in my back -hips -kidneys. Other things went bad as well ...DD hasn't been approved for child care yet and she's still in school, having me as babysitter, without me, day care is unaffordable, it should have been ready before now, but it isn't. And the car needs a check up and tires, My money is pffft. DDs money has been held up over the last 3 weeks, and I've got a huge open wound and you aren't supposed to get in the pool with one of those... but thats the public pool. I'm going to get us a backyard step over pool and fill it at least 1/2 way, for me to walk and sit and lay in. Placed just off the deck, and baby can water play with me. That's whats going in the garden spot this summer. I saved my new cell phone rebate money for the beach trip and that ain't happenin. the absolutely next best thing is a pool in the yard. It's cooler, cheaper, closer and lasts longer than a vacation getAway. And when it gets really hot, we'll get in at night.

I'll bet it's gorgeous at the beach. WHAAAAAH. can i get a little cheese for my whiiiiine.?

Well, there's probably oil or tar washing up there anyway.  We cancelled our beach vacation and are going to a lake instead.  I'm planning on making everyone else do all the work and spend my energy just hanging out.

Here it goes again. Infection, have had UTI since 4/9. Been on 4 diff. antibiotics and today they said it's resistant to everything they tested it for, that means I'm not being treated for this.

Urology Doc ordered CT of Kidneys, set for Thursday. Referring me to an Infectious Diseases Doctor and that scares the shit out of me.They, the Doc said there isn't anything he has to treat it with???  So, I sit here and am floored at this news. Where do I go from here?? does anyone know?

    Sad, Connie

Connie, sorry about your lost beach trip....maybe next year ?

Just come here to moan about no rain for the last week. My garden dries up very quickly, and I haven't the energy to get the hosepipe out, fixed up and working.

Maybe a rain dance woud do some good, but no energy for that either !

OH Thank YOU all for your great hugs and warm thoughts. I suppose theres a reason I didn't get to go this year. My cousin, K, is very intuitive, sensitive that way. I called her this morning and she said I was JUST THINKING about you... we do that all the time. She believes as I do, in Divine Intervention when things don't go as we mortals plan. There is a greater power making the plays and I would imagine that our freedom of will gets in the way many, many times. So, we make the best of what we have and do the best we can with what we have.

DD and I went to court this am about her getting child support, and we couldn't find her name on the dockets, so we went to the first one that opened and within 10 minutes we were leaving and DD had a big ole smile. Her soon2be ex settled with the court and it was all done. We went to apply for her attorney, a public defender, to hopefully dismiss the charge of criminal tresspass before it ever goes to court. In our state, marriage is a community property state, so since her still husband had signed the lease, she was not tresspassing, end of case. Trouble to deal with, none the less, but not scary. Whew~!

She is doing so well with this. I am so very happy that we moved them in here with us... for newbies, my DD#3 married, baby, divorcing, it's not pretty, but we are managing. She was really nervous about this court today, but it turned into no big deal.

I missed the beach week with my G/Fs + cousin cause of a vicious UTI, hives and burns of an allergic attack nature - on my BOOB. The good one. It's getting better, but some ocean water would have made it better faster.

If my CT/kidneys is on for tomorrow, DD and I are going to the beach here on Friday. So, I'm really looking forward to that. The Doc said I'm allergic to Iodine? must be a large dose sort of thing. Don't we need Iodine? maybe it's different when they give it to you to create contrast for imaging studies. weird. I'm just so glad I feel better today, And got through the court thing with her this morning.

Isabella4 - You go rain dance, girl, that would be funny, if it worked. I think you have to do it in the nude!! Please tell me where U.K is? is it where England is? Oh, yes, I'm already planning for beach week next year. We usually book almost a year out. Its SO much fun.

It sure is nice to have a place to vent, isn't it?

Hope everyone has a wonderful afternoon and if you need it... THAT SUCKS!!! believe me, I know.

Connie, yikes on the iodine! I used to say that when I had medical stuff done but haven't bothered in years. Must bring it back into the pre-surgery forms. You would be allergic to shell fish as well, if I'm not mistaken....

Connie. UK is United Kingdom...which is in turn England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

I'm in the England bit !! We are very small in comparison to USA.

Pleased your DDs hearings went OK, its not nice when your kids divorce. My son went thru it about 12 years ago...he was to blame, spent so much time in his garage playing with his cars, rather than indoors with his wife and child. I was just so amazed how they remained the best of friends after it all, still are to this day. This was real good for me, I never lost my G/daughter, which the mothers of sons very regularly do. In fact, carried on babysitting for ex. while she went on working, so it was a non-event from my point of view !

a BIG THAT SUX TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT!

Connie....so glad it turned out to be no big deal! You all deserve a break for sure. As for the iodine, I'm allergic as well. I've always reacted to topical iodine but with all the tests in the past two years I now react to the contrast too. Barbe's right about the shellfish and I have been warned about eating it in the future, so please be careful too!

I'm healing well, the movement is coming back very slow in the ankle - but it is coming back! I look forward to being able to walk and bike again soon.

I hope all is well and you all are safe with this crazy weather we are having! I have no idea why my letters just got all big like this....obviously i hit a wrong key combination!

No one warned me about shellfish... I presume that includes lobster, crab, shrimp.... ????? I just love all of those.  Havent had any since I started but that was just by choice not allergy.  How simply awful.   And the last time I reacted to the contrast while on the premeds.  So now I am not allowed CT contrast at all.

Hi everyone.   THAT SUCKS, as needed.   Great news Bonnie - here's to speedy and complete healing.

Allergies are nothing to mess with.    Each time you "react" it can get worse and turn into a very serious issue.   I wear a Medic Alert necklace or a bracelet on my ankle or sometimes both.   Next to my insurance card is a full print out of my allergies.   And I typed up address labels listing my allergies and printed out on the computer,  so I don't forget any of them when asked.

I am allergic to the scrub soap and that complicates surgery.   I know they have used betadine on me.    Hang in there, everyone..    Hugs, Nancy
