Thank you JJuannelle for the tip about copying pics from facebook, it's been driving me crazy trying to add them from my photos on my computer. This pic was the end of March before my last trim, you have to enlarge it to see really see the curls, but someone earlier said poodle, and it seems appropriate. I'm almost 9 months pfc, but shaved my head again the 1st of Sept. I've had my hair trimmed twice, more to shape, but I think if I stretch the hair on the top of my head out, it's 5" long.

I love those short haircuts, has anyone seen something for short, VERY curly hair, now it just does what it wants to? I've always had very straight hair, so I'm just at a loss as to what to do with this. I'm keeping the sides and back trimmed until the top grows out some, this is what my hair dresser said to do, if not I get real wings on the sides, still do some. I'm trying to wait until it grows some to color it because I'd rather get it highlighted instead of whole head coloring, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make it. I have found that really curly hair needs lots of conditioner, like condition in in the shower, and then add leave in condtioner, but still wild at times. I'm thankful to have hair, but still feel like I'm looking at a stanger in the mirror sometimes.

I hope everyone is doing well, and hair grows swiftly

This is my hair 5 1/2 months PFC, still very short and getting very curly; but it was curly before. I have colored it twice and cut it once.

tamara, man what curls.  I can only hope that mine looks as good.

buccaneer, your hair looks great also.  You are about a month ahead of me.  Mine looks like  it is really going  to curl.

lottie, you look like you have a nice head of hair also.  It is good to see  pictures of full heads of hair.  It may be short, but it still looks good.

MaryNY and Sherri, I should be so luck to have hair that looks like hers.  I think I have too much hair for that style, but only time will tell.

Mary, you and I both need to update our avatars, but I just haven't had the  courage to do it.  Maybe next week.

Helen, I am taking Biotin and using the shampoo and conditioner.  I am not sure it is helping, but it is  worth a try and my hair is growing.

Sugar77,that's a cute cut and would look good on you.As for me i'm 14mos PFC and while i have hair it is as straight as a yard stick, baby fine and sooooooooooooooooooo thin, also no body to it.I used to have a head full of very thick, baby fine and a little wave to it.So this sure is different for me.Last week i put some curlers in the top, hoping for at least some body.I left them in all morning, and when i took them out is was just as straight as b4 i put them in.I did have to laugh about it as i showed dh.

But i'm thankful that i do have some hair and better yet i have LIFE!!!!!!

    Hi All!

I've been MIA lately due to some very messy and noisy floor renos happening at my house.

It's great to see the hair photos - both celebrity and non-celebrity!  I can't believe how obsessed we all are about our hair (I'm saying WE because I am too) but it is something to concentrate on and connect us all since a lot of us are finished treatment!  I talk about my hair to my friends and they just look at me strangely - thank goodness I can come here and you all understand!

My hair is still growing (I think it is anyway) but it's not very thick.

My hair pre-BC was thick (coarse with thick hair shaft), curly (like gentle ringlets not tight and not curly at the scalp) and with a lot of volume (I had so much hair and lots of it fell out daily without notice).

The hair I'm sporting now post chemo is thin, wispy and straight.  It doesn't really feel like it's thickening or getting any longer.  But I know it must be growing because I can now pinch it with my fingers when I run my hands through it.

I've got another appointment with my hairdresser for a trim on the 19th but I think I might postpone that!

I was hoping to have longer hair and lose 10lbs before I went back East (May 20) for my niece's graduation but it doesn't look like either is going to happen!

Have a good week and happy hair growing to you all!

    Marie

Nioxin should fatten up those hair shafts, Marie, if you are interested; I've been thinking about trying it as mine is also on the fine side.

I spoke to the owner of the salon I used to go to yesterday to see if they have much experience with post chemo hair. To my surprise he said, "yes, we have had lots of clients over the years." I had initially thought I'd go to the wig shop at the hospital for the next year as they are a full service salon, too, but I'm tired of going to hospitals and want some normalcy in my life. Therefore, I'm going in on Friday morning so he can take a look "under the wig" and to get a protein scalp treatment.  He said to stop with the Nioxin right away because all I need to use is a gentle shampoo with sage in it.  He's really an expert on hair so I trust what he's saying and am going to give it a try. I normally go to one of his stylists but for this situation I'm going directly to him. Mine is getting thick and I can see a wave coming but I need to get the chemo tips snipped off so the length is more consistent. I'll report back after Friday with what I learn!

Sherri: was the stylist's objection to the Nioxin that it wouldn't do any good or that it would be bad for your hair in some way?

Mary - I'm not exactly sure why but I will find out on Friday.  I know the wig store at the hospital sells a very expensive product for regrowth that comes in a series of viles. He knew all about it before I even mentioned it and said it was unneccesary and would just cost me a lot of money.  I reallly like him because he's never steered me wrong before when I used to go there regularly and they never try to sell me anything either.  I've been a client for years so I'm so looking forward to going back again.

I just returned from the fitness program at the local cancer centre, where I pulled off my wig for the hour I was there.  It felt so nice not to have it on when "out." However, I quickly put it back on before I left...lol

Happy haircut, Sherri!  Hope it feels good and looks nice when those wispy ends are cut off.

Ah, were are all such little butterflies emerging from our chemo coccoons.  Curly or straight, dark, gray or purple, CELEBRATE that new hair!

It sounds like everyone is busy growing hair.  I know we are all anxious to see how ours will come out and I want it now.

I am getting my first trim on Friday.  I am ready for it to start looking styled rather than like a man who just hasn't been to the barber lately.  Not that I look like a man, it is just the hair.

kathi, I am with you on thank goodness for LIFE and that we are still here to watch our hair grow.

Marie, I am also trying to lose weight.  I have gained 20 lbs on this journey and I was already about 17 over before this.  So now I really have the weight to lose.  I have joined the fitness center at work, trying to watch what I am eating and will start working out with a personal trainer two days a week.  What we have to do to stay beautiful and young.

Sherri, it is interesting that they would discourage you from using Nixon,  but I am sure he know his business.  Keep us posted on what he tells you to do.

I can not seem to catch up on my rest from all the overtime I did at work over the last 6 weeks.  I am really ready for this long weekend so I can get some rest.  I am so tired in the afternoons that I can hardly drive home and it is a 50 mile drive.  I thought today that I would need to pull over and take a short nap, but I made it.  I think I am too old to work that hard.

buccaneersdj:  Really love your hair.  I am only 3 months post chemo, but had allot of fuzz hair up to April 9th that I did not like and at that time I was just over 2 months post chemo and I chose to shave it off hoping my hair would come in better.  So am starting over with the hair growing. So nearly into a month of starting over and have quite a bit on the top of my head, limited in the sides and back - will see what I am like I guess by the fall :)

So how soon after chemo and your hair starting to grow in did you color it the first time?

Hi everyone, I have not posted for a while but I read just about everyday. I am now 10 weeks PFC and thought my hair would never fill in but it is finally starting to. It was thin on top and growing more on the sides but it is starting to even out. I will share a pic if I can figure it out. Its not real good (a little fuzzy-Like my hair) but the best I can do for now. Happy hair growing to all.

I'm going to do something daring this afternoon...I'm going to go to the grocery store topless. This morning I went to my regular hairdresser for the first time since chemo. I had a protein treatment done, a glaze put on my hair and the straggly tips trimmed and shaped as much as possible. I'm surprised at how emotional the experience was doing something "normal" again...long overdue! I'm exactly 12 weeks PFC and it's very, very short.  I just want to try going out without the wig to test how I feel.  Note, I'm not going to the grocery store around the corner. Instead, I'm going to go to one a little ways away so I don't run into anybody I know for this "test." I just took a photo of my hair on my Blackberry and emailed to my sister for an initial opinion.  She said go for it. Here goes...

Sugar: I hope your expedition goes well. You'll probably find, as I did, that no-one will give you a second glance. I stopped wearing my wig a few weeks ago, but still always wear a little cotton hat when leaving the house. I take it off when I get in the car, but I don't want the neighbors to see me with my short white hair ... at least not yet.

I still haven't figured out how to upload pictures so I am just putting a picture of my hair regrowth as my profile picture. This picture was taken 5 1/2 months PFC, which was last week. On the picture my hair is colored blond, it was coming out grey. It is coming in curly, and I used to have straight hair.

Sugar77: going topless was liberating, no more headscarves ! I hope it feels the same for you.

Whew,,,, Okay I'm back with my groceries and it was very liberating. Not one person gave me a second look. I couldn't belive it! Most, if not all, of the men I saw at the store had longer hair than me but nobody looked at me strange.

    hrf,

We could be twins! I finished chemo mid-April, 2009. My hair came back as straight as it was prior to chemo and more gray. It is still baby fine and I do not have a full scalp of hair on top. I am attributing it to Femara--been on it a year--4 more years to go!

Marion - you look brilliant in your avatar pic, like a model!

Sherri - congrats on going topless!!

Im at the 5 months post-chemo mark and my hair is really starting to curl like crazy!  It was wavy pre chemo but this is a really tight curl now. Its going to take so much longer to grow or look like I have any real length in it but Im getting lots of compliments, so Im enjoying those!

Oh, I wish I was having a positive attitude about my hair re-growth but I am not. I am 8 weeks post chemo and it's filling in and starting to appear but I am so sick of the scarves, hats & wigs. In my house I wear nothing but I am not brave enough to go without....I can't stand all the stares that I already get while wearing one of the other options. I wish I had a good looking wig, I did not know that I had a pretty high amount that my insurance would pay for one wig so when I bought the first one it was not that great and now they won't pay for another. Also everyone told me it looked great and natural (I know they were being nice) but now they tell me it looks like a wig, I wish they had been honest up front. I know I am having a pitty party but loosing my hair was harder than loosing a breast for me on some days. I am so happy to see all of you posting your pictures and have the courage that I do not have yet.

When my hair first started growing back, I searched the internet looking for pics of hair re-growth and they were hard to find. So, I thought I would post this for you for a reference. I am now 10 months PFC. These are pics of me over the past 6 months of hair growth. The first pic was taken in November, which was 4 months PFC. Each pic is one month later. The last 2 pics are from last week.  Also, I was on Herceptin until March, so my hair growth may have been slower than normal. I hope this helps everyone.

Marion:  I see that you are 5 1/2 months PFC and have colored your hair, and was the coloring recent?  How soon did you start to color your hair after chemo and did you do it yourself or go to the hairdressers?  (our hair being so very, very short would be easy to do it ourselves)

    Thanks, Charmaine

Charmaine - I just coloured mine on Friday at 12 weeks PFC.  My hairdresser did a colour glaze that only deposited colour rather than a permanent that would have lifted and coloured. I went in to get a trim and a protein treatment and decided to get it coloured. It's very short but I went out for dinner tonight topless. I know a woman who coloured her hair herself about six weeks after chemo. She purchased an organic hair colour kit at Loblaws in the natural products aisle and it looks really good as I've seen her in person recently. I'll try to post a photo somehow shortly. Not sure how to do it, though.

I colored my hair the first time right before the first pic in Nov and then a second time in Jan with a light brown color. I have been highlighting it since February. I also cut the tip ends off every 4 to 5 weeks since chemo ended.
