ECT:  5000 mcg 2 x day is what I take.

I went to get my hair styled again yesterday.  Before I went to get it cut, I did a Keratin repair mask, then a moisture treatment, then I dyed it!  I also went back to using Sally's Ion straightening shampoo and conditioner.  It really works!  It doesn't help the cowlicks or the frizzies, though.  It took my stylist 2 hours to coax my hair into a style and it still wants to grow straight up and out, lol!  She wet it, sprayed a Paul Mitchel anti frizz spray on it, blew it dry with a round brush in the opposite direction that it wanted to go, which worked on all but the cowlick in the middle of my head.  Once it was dry she went piece by piece with a flat iron styling it and once it was straight trimmed it some more.  Then to finish it off she mixed my L'Oreal Cream with my Garnier (smells wonderful) fiber gel to piece it out and then finished it with hair spray.  Whew!!! She told me she was so sorry I had to go through this every day.  So am I.

MelBell your hair is awesome good job!  I love the HMJ, I am stealing that one!

MBJ, what would your hair look like if you didn't do all those steps?  Yikes!  Its so very cute!!!,

I know I will not have the energy or patience to do that every day.  Especially after months of just throwing on my hair and running out!

MelBell07 your hair looks great. Very Carrie Mulligan only brunette. I notice so many celebs with this short haircut now. I wonder if there were always some like that and I jsut notice them more now or if it's jsut conveninetly in style now.  Thanks for posting hopeful hair growth pics. it helps a lot I jsut finished my last chemo on tuesday and I am going thru my bad days the next two days but i look forward to that it's all over and my hair growing back.

elaneg I watched the housewives of New Jersey after my BMX and they cracked me up. I am oriignally from Long Island but it's all the same thing. The women who marry for money or jsut happen to marry money who donlt know  what problems are. They used to annoy the heck out of me now they are jsut funny. It's a lot easier to deal with those kind of people half way across the country though lol.

Elaineg:  It is sooooo much work but it beats looking like I have a 90 year old grandma do with a perm==all I would need is silver hair, LOL!  Today I went out and bought a professional 1" small flat iron and what a difference $20 makes!!!  I also bought the products my stylist used: Straight Sexy Hair Smooth and Seal and Paul Mitchel Super Skinny Serum Smoothing Line.  My hair looked so nice yesterday and today it was a kinky disaster again.  Just the spray and touching it up with my new flat iron made all the difference in the world.

MBJ - The Lash Stiletto is great, but even better with a base.  I used Loreal Double Extend (just the white stuff - the mascara doesn't work well) then followed with the Lash Stiletto.  Even better!!!

Melbell--I can't wait to have as much hair as you! You look great! I finished my last chemo on Sept. 23rd. Right now I have a very short fuzzy head...more on the back and sides than on the front. It looks like my hair will be brown. Did the front of your head take the longest? I just want bangs again!

Geez, gang, how long does it take to get a little length??  I'm going crazy over here, driving me nuts.  It's filling in slowly, but I buzzed it to 1/8" more than a week ago,and I swear it has not grown AT ALL.  I also feel like this isn't my "real hair",it's sorta dry, fine, etc.  GRRRRR  I am 12 weeks pfc

It took me at least 4-5 months before I had enough hair to without a wig:(  Give it time, it will grow and in the meantime it's winter so you have lots of options to keep warm.  Hang in there-soon you will be like me fighting the crazy, wacky stuff they call hair trying to tame it into something that resembles a hair style.  sigh.

MelBell07:  Great hair!  You are stylin'. I can't believe you have that much at 8 weeks.  I finished taxotere June 3rd and I'm still at 1/2 inch, thin with lots of no hair places.  I'm taking 1000 Biotin for a week now, wondering if that's enough?  Also using Rosemary shampoo and conditioner. What seems to be the average Biotin you gals are having success with?  Mine is grayish with some dark mixed in. I'm trying not to be impatient but 6 months seems like a VERY long time to wait. All I can figure is that the chemo really did a job on my good cells too.  I had very thick hair before.  Any thoughts to share on the Biotin dosage and your successes with it?

I haven't started chemo yet but I have to go and buy a wig.  Is it worth it to buy an human hair one?  Are they high maintenance?  How do you take care of it?  I plan on wearing it for a long time.

Since my insurance didn't cover the cost of a wig, the expense of a human hair wig wasn't worth it for me. I bought a micro filament wig, and wore it to work only for about 6 months. It was not cheap, but it served its purpose. I had to wash it every week with wig shampoo and then comb it out. Easy to maintain. When not wearing the wig, I wore baseball caps or stocking caps.

Cat - I bought several synthetic wigs and have been wearing the same one the whole time.  People think it is my hair - or at least they are kind enough to say so :-)  I just didi not want to spend time maintaining a wig.

Hi, ladies, I finished my last TC of TCH last Mon. and yes already wanting hair back. I am just wondering if any of you that have hair grow find it to be different than your hair was before?

Wigs- I didn't like the one I got from American cancer society. So I bought one from the shop where my sister works and it was reasonably priced 80. and very cute I had so many compliments, I think people thought it was cuter than my own hair. Here is a pic. and the name of it.

cat - I wanted a wig that looked just like my hair, so I splurged for a real hair wig.  My insurance didn't pay for it, but it was totally worth it.  Most people at my office had no idea that I had BC, which is what I wanted.  I washed the wig just once after 4 months.  I'm glad I got it.  I think it's a disgrace that insurance doesn't cover the cost of good wigs.

Everyone - I'm 6 weeks post-chemo and my hair is growing in slowly but steadily.  Brows and lashes were back after 3 weeks, but my head is taking lots longer.

bubbalu-I have been taking 10,000 biotin daily. Mine comes in pills that are 5,000 each so I take one in the morning and one at night. From what everyone says it really helps with the growth. Don't give up Bubbalu!

I take the same:  5000 mcg in AM and again in the PM.  Mine is still crazy and grows straight up.  Much courser, curlier and unmanageable then prior to chemo and many more cowlicks.

soaplady:  Congratulations on being 2 years out!!!

Insurance didn't cover my wigs but I had 3:  a real hair one that I had cut, dyed and styled to look like mine-I washed it once a week, put it on it's stand, let it air dry with large rollers in, flat ironed it into shape and put a tiny bit of hair spray on it.  Much easier then my real hair.  The other two were fake hair which I just washed and let dry on the stand--no real styling needed.  I liked all of them for different reasons.  All of them were lace filament wigs ranging from $300 to only $60 and I received more complements on them then I ever have with my own hair.

My last Chemo was April 30th and today my hair is a good 2 inches long on top and I have had it trimmed twice. Came back really grey though. It started growing back about 4 weeks after last chemo and started out slow but has grown much faster the last couple months. I started going without wig Mid July. People just thought I had a cute new cut!

Hang in there, it is a small price to pay to still be here with family and friends!

Sorry, no it didn't. But everyone is different. It started to come in wavy but then I lost that hair and now it's this and straight. Its been 14 months since my last chemo treatment. There is always hope.

I had straight hair before and always wanted curls so I am hoping for curly...or maybe gentle waves!

Everybody  keeps talking about "fuzz" but mine is stubble; it's coarse, it's  not soft. Will it soften up as it gets longer? It's maybe an 1/8 inch now.

Cat:  I've heard there is a little more you have to do with natural hair wigs.  I got a synthetic too, and it looks real to me.  Either way, I look at it as it's short lived in the whole course of things so one way or the other I'll get through it.  Yes, the ACS does have free wigs.  I didn't like the one I got either.  In my area (Ohio), there's a program called PALS.  I have insurance similar to Medicaid, and they don't cover wigs, so I called PALS and within 20 minutes, they called a local wig shop and told them I'd be in to pick out a wig (any wig) and they'd pay for it!  Wonderful people... but I dunno where PALS reaches.
