MBJ, how do I use the iron spray? When my hair is wet or dry? Or after I iron it?
Kittykat, your color is beautiful....

Yeah my sister went lighter and I went darker. Her hair is a little curlier than in this photo, but not much. This is from her wedding and she had a hairdresser trim it and style it that day. Now that she has some weight from the length, the curls are not as unruly. Her hair was a bit longer than mine this time last year. So, I'm hoping to have a bob by next year. My hair is fine, but I have a lot of it. Her hair is much thicker (she inherited my mom's beautiful hair, I got my aunt's hair).

MBJ - I bought the Sally shampoo, conditioner and a shiny spray. I love that it has no parabens. I went paraben free right before I started chemo.

Kittycat: I bought all of those, too! Just realized since they changed their packaging that they are paraben free!!!
FearlessOne: I use the Sally Straightening shampoo & Conditioner, Paul Mitchell Skinny Straightening Gel and spray while wet then blow dry then I use Sexy No Frizz Spray then Flat Iron (because this is less wet). I do use other products do manage my hair now that it's longer, however, when my hair was first growing in all I got was frizz, so these should help. Also, in the very beginning blow drying just destroyed my hair so for a time I wet styled it with Marc Anthony Straight Creme--no flat iron, no blow dryer--because nothing worked. Patience is key with this chemo frizz. It will get better!

I have a question for everyone...when will I know if my hair is going to be curly or straight? My hair is about 1/2 inch right now and it looks straight but maybe that is because it is so short. For you curly headed ladies...how long was your hair when you first noticed the curl?
0 -
poodleluvbug: Mine came in this weird, fluffy, frizz. Not curls, not hair really, lol. At about an inch is when it got really, really, curly.

For those of you who have full head coverage at this point, was it always that way, or did it gradually fill in? In other words, did it start out more sparse?
I have about 1/4 inch stubble and peach fuzz at this point, which is growing nicely. But it seems to be less than full density compared to what I had before. I never shaved my head, did not lose all of my hair (but most of it), and continued to lose a bit more with each treatment. Since it came out gradually, I am thinking that what I see right now is what I lost with the first tx, and that the hair loss from the remaining 3 tx will eventually fill in.

kittycat - I think your hair looks great! The waves/curls are very similiar to what I have on the back of my head. My back is wavy, and the top is straight, go figure.
I still haven't gotten a trim since it started growing, but thinking maybe I should now. It is just a unruly mess, but I love it!

kittycat, thanks for posting the photos. Both you and your sister are an inspiration! I do need a trim, but have a hard time parting with even a millimeter of hair! I have a hair appointment in a couple weeks, and will ask her to start trimming the back. I am also having her do a keratin infusion again. It only lasts until I wash it, but I think it looks so much better straight and smooth.
poodleluvbug, my hair started to show that it would curl at about 5 months pfc - I think it was about an inch long.
Irr4993, The back behind my ears are the longest pieces. The bangs and areas surrounding my face grew the slowest.

Irr4993, yes mine grew in fuller in some areas and less full in others. The sides seemed to have taken the longest, and the crown area the fastest (and was thicker).

Hi Everyone!
I am about 10 weeks post chemo and started going without hats/scarves about two weeks ago. Hair is very short and baby fine, but I have full coverage so I am going with it.
I have a question for those of you who are a little further out than me. I have a lot of "extra" facial hair growing in. It is very fine and you have to look for it to see it. It really is embarrassing to me. It is kind of like a very long sideburn, almost beard. Did anyone else have this hair, and how did you get rid of it? Does it go away on its own, or do you shave it off?
0 -
I shaved that facial hair immediately!!! I don't know what causes it but I sure didn't want it on my face, lol!
I looked like a creep show star until I shaved my head and restarted the growing process so it would grow in more evenly--I didn't shave it all of the way down but just to 1/4" in length. What first comes in is truly chemo hair and pretty useless or at least it was for me.
FearlessOne: I read the bottle on the Ion spray and it says to spray on dry hair, however, I need to use so many products to get my hair to the point where I could work with it. It's kind of trial and error and you will have to see what works best with your own hair.

kittycat....my hair looks SO much like yours
I have a questions...anyone use that japanese straightening? I am 5 months post chemo and my hair dresser says because of the chemical lets wait til it's a little longer...but I HATE the crazy curly cowlick ridiculousness I have going on. Just wondering if anyone else has done it.

Kittycat, your hair looks amazing for 8 weeks! And your sister is gorgeous in her wedding photo. You are a pair of beautiful women.
Irr4993, my hair has grown in pretty even all around. It started coming in between tx 5 & 6, and was growing steadily until I started Tamoxifen, and now I think that it has slowed down. But that's ok, I am content with what I have, and have been getting lots of compliments.
sptmm62, I just ignored the peach fuzz and it went away by itself.

Hi Girls....It's my first day back at work tomorrow after 8 months....can everyone send me some positive energy...I'm SO nervous.

LadyM13 Good luck tomorrow! I know how you feel I go back to the office next week and I am doing it sans la wig! Now that I am happy with the final results of my exchange revisions I just figure if I have cleavage it will distract from my hair!
Also, I bought a cheap 1/2 inch flat iron from Sally's when my hair was super short. It only cost $15 but was worth it and did the trick with straightening out my hair. PLUS I know it sounds silly but I put a hat on my head whether its baseball hat or knit cap just for about 30 mins just to flatten out the poof and frizz. It really does work then I put some more product in it.
Sending nothing but positive vibes your way for a great first day back to work!!

Good luck Lady M...sending mega positive vibes your way!

DiDel and LadyM: Very good luck to both of your tomorrow. It took me a couple of weeks to adjust to going without the wig but then I really loved the freedom of not having to wear one. Hugs!!!

LadyM - Is the japanese straightening the same as the brazilian blowout?
0 -
The Japanese system is more toxic though there has been recent controversy about high levels of formaldahyde in both systems!
0 -
Thanks MBJ!
LadyM13 My hair stylist does this treatment similar BUT its not toxic she uses KERATIN COMPLEX products then dry and flat iron. Its just a conditioning treatment kinda pricey but you can buy it online and do yourself. My stylist offered it to me but right now hair is too short.

The nicest thing I ever heard when I was growing my hair was from the barrista at my local Starbucks. She asked if she could take a photo to show her mom. She wanted her to stop dying her hair and go gray and she wanted to prove to her that she could have gray hair and still look beautiful like me.
I thought it was sweet and took it as a compliment!
Today I took my dogs for a hike and I have a curly gray mullet. Boy do I need a shaping trim!

Yikes - I had my hair colored today and I hate it. I actually think I liked it better salt and pepper - now not sure what to do! It loooks like chemo collateral, as Joan put it. lol. Kittycat - I can't believe how much hair you have; I am nearly 4 mos PFC and you have way more than I do - jealous!

LadyM and DiDel....good luck tomorrow. I am now 19 weeks PFC and have decided that I am sooo done with my wig. I haven't worn it much the past couple weeks but the one place I have always consistentaly worn my wig is at church.... until today. I got so many rave reviews when I showed up with my new "do" this morning. The one that meant the most to me came from a really fun 14-year old girl (sensitive age, you know). She came running over to greet me and said "wow, you can really pull that off. Your hair looks great!" Another friend at church is an oncology nurse and she had to come congratulate me. My DH has been telling me the same so think it is time. Tomorrow I am going to pack up all my scarves and hats and tuck them away in a box somewhere and I hope that I never have to see them again!
Yesterday I went to ForEyes to pick out some new eyeglasses to go with my new "do". My sales lady had a ball helping me pick something out. She kept saying things like you look so "chic" or you look so "elegant". She was so sweet. I didn't think that anyone would ever use those words to describe me again. I had to hug her.
I am 19 weeks PFC and it is still coming in very straight, but I still think it is too short to show any curls so I am still holding my breath to see what happens! Toni... I am going to wait for awhile before coloring mine. My best friend says she loves the color, but I don't.
sptmm62... I shaved off that downey facial hair with one of those little battery operated razor sticks that I use to thin out my eyebrows. It hasn't come back.

Joan: Congratulations on going topless!!!

LadyM and Diane ~ sending positive vibes your way today! Keep your heads high - you ARE survivors and are thriving! Will keep them coming throughout the day...
LOL - my hair is coming in like a mohawk -hahaha.

Hello ladies!
I've been following your posts since a while ago. I'm on chemo treatment (2nd round of FEC x 6) and of course hair is slowly falling down I'm dark hair/eyes and my hair is quite thick.
In my attempt to make this process less shocking for me... I cut it quite short about one week ago, when it started to fall a bit, but now hair is everywhere!!!! Got a wig as well but not ready yet to wear it (hmm.. should be VERY ready anytime this week anyways!)
Oh well.. this post is just to say THANK YOU ALL for sharing all your experiences, tips, recommendations, funny stories and so on. Gives me a lot of hope at this very moment, when loosing my beautiful hair..
The journey might be a bit long, but I know that after all this is done, I'll get back my hair....straight or curly, grey or black.
Cheers to all!

Hi All,
Always follow this thread and love to see when someone posts a new picture of their hair growth. My last chemo was Sept 08. I was one that got the curls. I wouldn't mind so much, but it's on the frizzy side, so I curl it, which helps alot. Here is a picture of before and after styling.
Happy Hair Growing to you all of you. Kitty, your sister looks beautiful. (as do you!)
