    Hi ladies,

Am hoping you can help answer some questions... or offer some encouragement.  My last chemo was end of july and had very slow growing hair thereafter.  Dec 1, was when I started going w/o scarves, etc.  Now, it seems as if the growing has stopped.   I use Nioxin, but didn't start until Nov. when I read about it on here.  Don't really know if it is working, want to think it is.   I just thought at 6 months post chemo, I would have more hair than this.   I have been taking folic acid and biotin, but stopped a while before my surgery.  How long do you continue Nioxin?  Do you all still use it even after a full head of hair?  I am about out of the scalp therapy spray and need to decide if I am going to splurge for another bottle or not.  I have been laying around so much since surgery I feel like I'm rubbing what little hair I have, off ... although no evidence of that,  it just feels thinned out when I rub it.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Laurie -- I finished Chemo the end of July too. Rads the end of September. My hair grew fairly fast for three weeks and then I started Tamoxifen, it's been slow going ever since. I have at best two inches, it's a bit wavy in places but for the most part straight. thick and darker than it was. I've never used anything on it but have started taking the Biotin (1000) w/n the last month. Can't tell if it's helped yet. I also thot I'd have more hair by now but from what I read on this thread it takes much longer than we think. As it grows I think it appears to thin only because as it gets longer it lays down more. Or at least that is my take on it.

We'll just have to hang in there and keep encouraging each other. Hope this helps a bit. Wishing you the best.

Hi Laurie: I see you are on Herceptin. Apparently that will slow hair growth. I don't believe it causes hair loss, just that hair grows more slowly while you're on it. Maybe someone else here on Herceptin will chime in.

Thanks for sharing, Sunny. I'm about at your 8/7 length. This gives me a good idea of what to expect over the next few months.

Sunnycoconut - thanks for posting - very inspiring - I'm about 3 months PFC and am following the same growth pattern you did!  Your hair looks great - and short hair looks GREAT on you!

Hi all Thanks for the well wishes ...I start work next week. This is my week of crammed in doc appts. Nothing major just PCP and Dexa scan to get a baseline bone density since I am on  Tamoxifen.

Sunny Coconut you are almost exactly same as me except the crown of my head is a lot shorter than the back...thus the mullett. Looks great! I did 4 rounds TC what chemo did you do??

Thanks everyone but I do think I look about 10-15 years older now (I'm 43).

Diane -  I did 4 AC DD and 4 Taxol DD.  I know what you mean about the mullett!  I think I need to start getting the back trimmed up more so the front can catch up.

Xraygirl..I bet you can totally ROCK that mohawk!! LOL

LLL I used Nioxin scalp shampoo and treatment all through chemo and until I had full head coverage. I stopped mainly because my hair was so dry i needed a more moisturizing shampoo.

Sunnycoconut You look great!! You are as young as me and I think you do not look 43 at all. You look really good!! I am envious of the fullness on the top. I wanted to trim up the back but my stylist said she didn't want to cut it too short since I want it to grow out.

LadyM~  POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!! Hope your day went great!

DiDel~ All the best next week!

Sunny Coconut ~ You look fab!  You give me hope I am 6 mos PFC and mine is about 2 inches long all over, but curly.  You look as if you planned the short hair cut!  and THAT is my goal!

    ((BIG HUGS)) to all!

My last chemo was mid-June and it is now 2.5 inches long but much shorter in the front sides.  I am on Arimidex and it feels like the last month or so there has been no growth.

Sunny Coconut, You look great. I am at Yours 8- 9 -10 picture and I am 15 weeks post chemo. Did You color Your hair at that time. I still use my wig but have a feeling if I color it I might go wigless.

Sunny and Goldie, thanks for sharing your latest hair growth photos.

Sunny, your hair seems to be growing much faster than mine did at that stage.  I am on Tamoxifen, which may be slowing it down.

Goldie,  I can't wait to have length like yours.  Are the curls easing up at all?  Some women have said their hair reverts to its pre-chemo state after 2 years PFC.  In any case, I think you look great!

Goldie - your hair looks fantastic!  You have been such an inspiration to me throughout this cancer jouney! :)

Sunny - love the hair journey pics.  It looks very much like mine.  My pre-chemo hair was styled very similarly to your pre-chemo hair.  I am somewhere between your September & December pics.  But my hair is soooo curly.  I look like a clown (and my hubby confirmed this).  My hair is long on top and the sides.  LOL!

MBJ- you know so much about the hair products and supplements! Thank you for sharing your info!

On facial hair - I've had it grow in 3 times!!!!  I'm tempted to have it waxed off, but don't want to screw up my complexion!

Ladies, when you had the fuzz growing in, did you shave it off or let it just come in all funky? I still have one more TCH treatment left but my hair is growing in, I actually buzzed it over the weekend because the unruly fuzz looked worse than the buzz cut.

Thank you Vanessa, my curls are are really not letting up much. Because of the length, that helps pull them down some and actually the hair on top is not as curly as the rest. But like I said, frizzy.

Kitty, I do have a clown picture. Its in my hair journey photos on my profile. I look like Bozo! I always have to remind myself not to complain about my hair, as I am so glad to have it back. I think you are the inspiration. You have done and accomplished SO much during your journey through all of this.

Nikola - Yes I did color my hair, a few times.  It grew in salt and pepper, so I asked for light brown, it turned out awful (8-7-10 pic)  I thought I looked like Victor-Victoria (old Julie Andrews' movie).  So that night I went to Sally's and bought a bleaching kit (8-9-10 pic).  You can also see my natural faux-hawk hair pattern in that pic!  I think it looked much better bleached.

SunnyCoconut, it does look better bleached. It looks like styled hair. No curls?

Goldie:  Why, you kinda look like Goldie Hawn!  Great job styling the sometimes difficult chemo curls!

Sunny:  You so rock the short hair!  Thanks for sharing your hair journey.  You look great!

Kittycat:  I have years of having difficult hair!  Never thought it would get worse, lol!  I am always trying out new products in hopes of finding the perfect hair solution.

I think I have conlcluded that that brown hair requires a really good cut.  Salt and pepper or dying it lighter like Sunny did looks better. I may go just bag the brown and let the salt and pepper grow back in.

Agree about the fuzz on the face - is this permanent?  Help!!

I had the fuzzy face too but used an electric razor a couple times and now it is normal.

nikola - I really don't have much curl, its kind of a loose curl.

I can't figure out a style to do now.  My mother-in-law came to visit and I noticed we have the same hair.  Oh NOOOOO!!!

Here is my worry; I'm one month PFC and have hair coming in and growing on sides, but nothing on top. I look like I have male pattern baldness. Did anyone else have this and then have the top fill in later? I tried to post a picture but couldn't get it to paste.

SunnyCoconut:  I believe you look just as young, if not moreso, after the hair grew back.  You look wonderful, and I love the say you bleached it with a little dark coming through the roots.  I'm 44... you look great!

I never shaved the fuzz on my head or face. The peachfuzz on my face went away. I would say in two months.

LadyinBama I have two spots on the top of my head like I have a receeding hairline where the hair is just starting to grow in. Like I wouldn't wear a headband for that reason. I think the crown of my head is growing in slower because of all the highlights I used to put in the top of my hair. That was the first place I lost my hair and the last place it's growing back.

I used Nioxin and took biotin (until my surgeries) i think it helped a bit.

Basia - Hey!! How are you? Almost finished with chemo? You go girl!

LadyinBama - I had the same "male pattern baldness" look you are describing and it took another month or so to cover the top of my head. By three months PFC my head was nicely covered, but shorter on top. I had to have a trim over my ears so that the rest could catch up. I think it is interesting too that the temples is where it fell out first and grew back first. I think the blood supply is better there.

Sunny - I love your hair in the sept 10 picture.  It looks really good on you.

I am exactly 6 weeks PFC and am about where you were in july.  The growth from sept to dec is incredible!  I can't wait!!

Toni - Had the hair on the face, shaved it off with a tiny shaver - couldn't stand it. So far it hasn't returned & sure hope it never does.
