Hi Gals- I found an organic hair salon and they colored my gray yesterday - so I'm feeling pretty good about the situation.  Hair growing pretty quickly now.  Went without the wig this week and every now and then I caught myself saying - Shoot, did I forget my wig!? Wierd.

Bdavis, I think everyone is different. My leg hair continued growing through chemo. It was not a lot, but it never fell out and continued to grow. My arm hair stayed also. My brows and lashes went after I was done w/chemo and I think that is fairly common for them to fall out when the hair on your head starts to grow. But my brows came back really fast. It is 5 months pfc and I have not had to tweeze/wax the eyebrows and I find that pretty odd, but I don't care. I hated not having eyebrows. The lashes came back slower and I think they have thinned out again recently. It seems like have very few lower lashes again.

Well, I attempted to color my hair! I am 14+ weeks PFC. My hair is very short, but thick. I used Clairol Natural Instincts in medium brown. I now look like I rubbed mud on my head!! It is a very flat boring brown and the white fuzz on the top didn't take the color too well, so it is sort of a weird taupe color. I guess I will continue to wear the wig until it gets a little longer so I can trim off the weird stuff and find a better color! Brows are back (having to pluck), eyelashes too.

Dominka you are so beautiful! I think i like your hair short better than long. You look so young but you probably are way younger than me.

Dominika: You are lovely! You could probably wear your hair any way at all and still look beautiful. Hope my hair looks as good as yours does when I reach the 5 month mark!

Dominika, wow you look adorable. Those lovely eyes!

OK here's my almost 12 week update followed but the 10 week one I posted 2 week ago. It hard to tell but the top of my head is really filling in. I think the flash washed it out.

Dominka: If you were blonde you could almost be a stand in for Mia Farrow in the 60's!  Very cute!

Lago:  It should start really coming in fast and furious now!

    Dominika--Your hair looks gorgeous.

Lago---Your hair is coming in fast---I am a few weeks ahead of you and don't have too much more hair but have noticed over the last couple of weeks that the top is starting to come in fast.

I haven't worn a wig in forever but feel a little strange going without scarf etc but I am getting used to it.

MJB I'm being patient. The fact that it feels like cat fur and is so black I'm looking at the 12-18 month calendar. Granted now that it's getting warm I would like to go sans scarf and get it colored. Hopefully 2-4 weeks. Longer lashes would be nice though.

BTW my DH is petting my head as I type this. Pretty soon he's going to be calling me by his old cat's name… well maybe not. The cat was a long haired cat. Tongue out

Lago  My DH played with my hair constantly during this phase of hair growth.  It is kind of fun to feel it when it's that short.

Today was my debut without a hat.  Tomorrow I will be 10 weeks pfc.  I felt very empowered!  It was about 86 here today in Ohio so way too hot for a hat.

86!  Yeah, that's when I quit wearing my wig-when it got too warm outside.  Congratulations!

I know we hit at least 84 today. I was out there in the park doing my 55 minute power walk with scarf. My face was so red when I came in I thought I was sun burned! Nope just hot… or maybe that Rosacea I was diagnosed with a year ago. It went away once I cooled down.

Lago and Dominika:  Thank you for sharing.  You both look really healthy and happy.

Mary:  My dermatologist said, "No Rogaine" after the study.  Incidentally, they are doing another study on head hair.  I want to be in that one!!  I just don't understand why my hair is so thin after having such thick, unruly, wavy hair for more than 50 years!  Now it's just thin and limp.

Brenda:  It seems we all end up with the opposite of what we had.  I am now a little over a year out and though it is still quite frizzy, it isn't as thick as it was.  It's more like it used to be--thin and wavy but with extra frizz and more cowlicks.

TifJ - I'm using Clairol Natural Instincts and it works well for me.  I wonder why it didn't work out for you?

I'm almost 17 months PFC and have had many trims so all of my chemo hair is gone.  Maybe that's the difference?

I just did the 2 week colour refresh yesterday and it's a bit darker today but I'm still loving it.

Marie- you're probably right. I haven't had any of the new hair trimmed off yet. The sides and back are brown, the gray just didn't cover very well. I used the 10 minute version too, maybe that just wasn't enough time! I also think I will change the color next time. Medium brown looks so flat! Maybe the 2 week color refresh will help a bit! I do think any color (however weird) is better than the extreme salt/pepper and white fuzz!! I can't wait to have as much hair as you have!!

Marie, I like Natural Instincts, too.   I use the Amber Shimmer and it turns my greys to highlights the color on the box.    I tried Natural Look by Loreal, but find it runs MUCH darker (bump up 2 shades).

TifJ - My hair dresser doubled the amount of time that she left the product on my hair.  I have had mine colored 3 different shades.  I started with what I would normally get but it didn't take too well so she went 2 shades darker and it looked ok at first but faded really fast, this last time she went even darker and I finally felt like it was a color I could live with, so you will probably have to experiment.  My last chemo was Nov 8 and it seems my growth has slown down and I really miss my bangs.

Thanks Ellen- I think I will let it grow out a bit more and then go to a salon to have it trimmed and colored properly!!

I should add that I'm not getting 100% gray coverage with Natural Instincts.  But I never was a fan of the flat looking all one colour dye job.

With this product I get nice highlights and still keep a few strands of gray for a natural look (especially in the spots I missed).

I did leave it on 5 minutes longer than the box instructions said to and when I did the 2 week colour refresh instead of 5 minutes I left it on for 10.

I'm also using John Freida Brunette shampoo, conditioner and leave in glosser to give it more shine.

I like this hair colour much more than the gray!
