    LtotheK,

Don't use a flat iron.  Flat irons are, hands down, the most damaging tool you can use on your hair.  Just wanted you to know that.  Good luck.  I am three weeks PFC and would love any hair to complain about!  Smile

Rocket, I had straight fine hair....lots of it, but stick straight.

I hope mine comes back curly like yours!!  It is gorgeous!!  I love it.  And your brows are perfect.  Were they always like that?

Oh wow, good to know re: flat iron.  Looks like I gotta live with it.  Yes, I'm thrilled I have hair, but I'm in the tweens and it's awful.

From what I understand, it depends on where in the hair cycle you are how quickly things come back.  And then, of course, there's just who we are as individuals.  I learned that I heal well and properly, but VERY slowly.  And for me, it took MONTHS just to get full coverage.  Crazy stuff!

My hair better not end up growing in like Cher's. Right now it's the really short version of it. I already did the 80's back in the 80's.

IowaSue- sorry about your cat.  I have two dogs and one is 11.  I keep praying that nothing happens.  I figure this year has been hard enough for all of us.  Pets are definitely family.

Rocket- I think your hair looks great!  I am not enjoying the curls either, but I will be glad when it gets to your length.  It really does look beautiful.

lago- my hair is def. wavy and out of control, but I have I spiky thing going on as well.  My husband keeps saying I look like sexy punk rock chic.  Needless to say, I do not agree with him at all.  I think he is just trying to be nice.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments, just wanted to let you in on my little secret, my hair is SOOO curly...I have had a hell of a time taming it the last few months and it is FINALLY at a length that I can go and get it blow dried, stretched and flat ironed.

I am really happy with how it is looking now, unfortunaltley I can NOT get it to look like that on my own :(

I continue to use Nioxin, I used it all through treatment and swear by it.

    Rocket,

I love your hair!  I used to spend so much money straightening and smoothing my thick, wavy hair.  Now I really, really miss it!  I have limp, thin "toddler" hair.  I feel that God is punishing me.

What did everyone do with your wigs? Is there anywhere to donate them to?

Speaking of wigs... i get so so many compliments on my wig... it gets a little over the top... People who don't know I am in chemo will say things like "I JUST LOVE YOUR HAIR... WHAT DID YOU DO" and I normally have great hair and get lots of compliments on it... I think they all like my wig so much because it just doesn't look like a wig... after I tell them they are like HUH??? its a lace front and I can pull my hair back off my face and looks like a natural hair line... I highly recommend one.... but look forward to loosing it when I have hair... I get soooo hot... I am a burning inferno from hot flashes and then add a synthetic wig... not looking forward to July.

I have gotten lots of compliments on my wig also. I have very seldom told them it's a wig. I just let them think it's my real hair. Boy are they going to be surprised when my hair starts growing back in and it's super short, but that won't be till several months down the road. I'm really dreading the summer also, have started getting hot flashes and a wig doesn't help with staying cool.

Rocket, I LOVE your color - Foam in light brown - do you apply to damp or dry hair?   I never used foam color before.

Hi All - Thanks for the compliments on my hair.  You guys are too kind.  I'm 50 and feel like I'm going on 85. My poor old body has taken a beating, and I feel like it really shows. You all make me feel better about myself.

I did go topless at 12 weeks PFC.  My hair was super short, but it was so hot with the wig in NC.  I remember the first outfit that I wore with my spiky short hairdo.  We were going out for a fancy dinner, and I wore a long, sleeveless, bright green and black, bold-patterned maxi dress.  I have mild LE so I wore my black arm sleeve and big flashy silver earrings and an intricate, wide silver bangle bracelet.  I put on my strappy black sandals with two inch heels as I tried my best to look artistic so people wouldn't question the hair as much.  I wore a little extra eye makeup too since it was evening.  It seemed to work.  The only comments I received were how wonderful I looked.  The hardest thing about going topless was going to work.  I was very self-conscious, but all my coworkers were fabulous.  They were so encouraging.  It was very freeing to ditch the wig.

MBJ recommeded the foam color.  I was really quite pleased with it.  The first two days I felt it was a little too dark (my chemo curl sucks up the color), but then it lightened up quite a bit after I washed it a few times.  I applied the foam color to my dry hair. My eyebrows have always been sparse, but when they grew back in after chemo, they came in nice, and then I lost them again along with the eyelashes, well after chemo had ended.  Now I use a light brown eyebrow pencil (I keep the tip sharpened well) and draw in little brows to fill in the more sparse areas.  It is made by Covergirl and two come in one package along with a little pencil sharpener.

Well happy hair growing everyone!  For those of you without hair or with some just starting to grow in, be patient.  You will get your hair back.  It might be different than you expect, but it's better than bald at least as far as I'm concerned.

Carrol, right behind you.  I'm thinking about repurposing all the beautiful vintage scarves the ladies in my family gave me as head sashes.  Thing is, you have to work your "look" around it--an Hermes silk scarf as a sash in the hair probably would look pretty silly paired with jeans...

I'm also going for a trim, despite having so little hair.  I think shaping around the ears is key, when it's long enough.

One thing that doesn't make me feel more feminine:  big bangly earrings.  It makes me feel like I'm trying too hard.  I am careful about which earrings I wear.  I mostly wear gold hoops, midsize.

Well put on eyebrows really makes a difference.  Dressing nicely does, too.

    Carrol2,

Earrings, makeup, and maybe a pretty headband.  A friend of mine is growing back her hair, she bought a few fabric headbands (I was never a fan), but they really look femine.

    Hi Ladies!

i've been lurking on this board for a while. I have chemo tomorrow (my second to last Taxol!) and my last one on April 28th.

We have a vacation planned over Labor Day, and from what I can gather on this board, I think I will have the GI-Jane look by then.

I do scarves at work (have a nice monofilament wig, but felt like a huge fraud in it!) and hats at home. It's finally getting warmer though, so I'm sure I will be anxious for some real hair to be able to go "topless"

Thanks so much to everyone for posting their photos! It really helps me see what to expect!

    Hugs to all!

No not Cher. My nose is not that long and I usually don't have black hair. Maybe more like an older Ricky Lake?

Rocket: I am so happy that the color worked out for you--Your hair looks amazing on you!  I wouldn't flat iron it at all.  Very flattering!!!

Carol:  I went to target and bougth a bunch of inexpensive decorative hair bands-you know the kind with silk flowers and feathers and stuff?  Really got me through the really short hair time, too.

For those of you afraid of flat iron damage, Sally's sells a new style flat iron that also dispenses oil at the same time.  If you want really straight hair, this would be the way to go with the least amount of damage.  The other wya is to use a spray on straightening product for use with flat irons--this does the same thing-protects your hair.

    Happy Hair Day!

Selma Hyak! wow thanks! I almost have her boobs minus the cleavage Tongue out Yes I am Ricky's older, thinner sister.

I second the big earrings. I've actually always envied many black women (not just African American) the way they can wear their hair super short. They have such great bone structure in their faces. My hair is currently this length but instead of looking hot I look like I'm 3 months out from my last chemo tx. Oh wait, maybe because I am. Surprised

lago there was a beautiful black woman in the look good feel better class i went to. SHe had lost her hair but not all of it so it looked very normal on her. They used her to show different scarf techniques and everything looked amazing on her. All that and you know what they say black does not crack! I have secretly wished i was black at various times i ahve the full lips thats about it though.

EYELASHES!  I finished 6 rounds of A/C on Feb. 23.  My eyelashes are starting to grow, but one eye the lashes are growing downward.  I had to go to the doctor last week, and have several rows PULLED OUT!  They brush against my cornea, and the pain is very bad.  Has anyone had this experience, and how did they deal with it?
