TifJ: The chemo white just doesn't color well at all. Also, to cover grey at the minimum it should be left on for 30 minutes or more. I always look for full grey coverage on the box--many products I have used don't seem to last or cover the grey and chemo hair is the worse.

lago , you look great !!!! your hair is coming in really nice.
dominika, you look so pretty if I had your hair and eyes I would not even worry about covering my head.

Thanks Marie and MBJ. I stopped at Sally Beauty supply today and they helped me pick out a permanent (ammonia free) color and suggested a 10 peroxide and gave me a little packet of stuff to mix in with the color that will help it stick to the greys better. She suggested I start out dark and gradually lighten up- since it is growing in very dark around the sides and back (lots of grey though). I am going to wait until the Natural Instinct color is gone. I will leave on the color refresher longer like you suggested Marie!! Thanks you ladies!!

Lago: I have been part of the eyelash study for a year now. After chemo the hair on my head is very thin and my eyebrows and body hair are non-existent. But the eyelashes kept growing because of the eyelash study.
The company I have been going to (Therapeutics, Inc.) for my eyelashes is doing another study on women with thin hair. They can't take me until a month after the eyelash study ends, though. I am not sure yet what the product name is, but if it is made by Allergan, the company that makes Latisse, I'm going for it.

Marie,
You look so much younger with darker hair! I was shocked by the transformation. You had beautiful gray hair, and it suited you as well, so you're beautiful either way.

Thanks Brenda! I hope the studies work out for you and you reap the benefits!
I'm only 48 but I looked and felt so much older with the gray hair. Not to mention that the seniors kept hitting on me because I looked like a young old lady!
The funny thing is that I still get no comments on the hair colour change. You would think that going from gray hair to dark hair someone would notice but it seems like people must think it looks natural so there is no need to comment?

i want hair! i want hair!!!
hair everywhere! oh wait, well not everywhere! lol!!!
mine is a mix of the white peach fuzz and darker hairs, my hair was dark brown before, my husband swears it is coming in black. that would be cool. some people kill for black hair, and dye it black. so, sweet. i am almost 3 weeks past final chemo, taking 2500mcg of biotin everyday and i do think it makes a difference.
shaving the old armpits again, why does that hair grow like crazy but the hair on my head is slllloowww!!!!

hdangelbaby your husband isn't crazy. My hair was dark brown with some gray. Now it's black and gray. Even my eyebrows turned black.0

Brenda: I want to get in on that study! I go to my last Latisse appointment in May so I will have to ask!
TifJ: Glad you were able to get some help with your hair!!

Mary: My last Latisse is at the end of this month. What will we do after that? Are we going to lose our eyelashes?
Marie: The seniors hitting on you made me chuckle!!! I bet you didn't know whether to be flattered or dismayed! It's okay, I can make fun of seniors -- I'm 56.
Speaking of age, a long time ago I read that things happened in 7 year cycles. This seems to be true for me. Things started going badly for me at age 49. First dx at age 50. Second dx at 54. I can't wait to be 57. Maybe things will completely turn around and I can spend the next 7 years in bliss?!

Hi Ladies...
It's been so long since I've been on here, just wanted to pop in and post an updated pic of my hair. This is 7 months post chemo.

ladym- WOW. Your hair is so long! I am 5 months out and mine isn't even half of that. Did you use anything special to make it grow so quickly? I love the style too. Good for you. I am sure it feels great to be getting back to "normal". take Care.

Wow ladym13 really nice photo. I'm starting to think that breast cancer only strikes pretty women. We're a great looking bunch are we0

Yesterday was the 1st day I went to work with out my wig. It was all good.
My display pic. is of my cat that past away on Sun. We had him since he was a kitten 15 years ago. I miss him badly : ( I went and ordered a memory rock yesterday with his name and a cat head carved on it.

ladym thanks for posting that you look great. I am at 4 months and looking forward to my bangs getting longer. Right now still looks very butchy on me even though I have pretty good coverage. it looks like a very short haircut now and not so much like chemo hair but, I don't feel feminine.0

Wow, we are all so different!! Lady M, I am envious of the length and straightness of your hair. I'm 7 months PFC, and rockin' what I currently call the Ogilvie Home Permanent Kit. Ladies, help!!!! I have never been called ma'am so much in my life, it is dreadful and looks like a poof that is impossible to tame. I use Giovanni pomade, and all it does is make the curl greasy.
Really hating this stage.

LtotheK mine is still straight although as it gets longer it is a bit wavier just in the back and rolls over on the top a little. I had very thin wavy hair before. Perhaps you should try a flat iron on your hair or maybe just your bangs.0
-
Would a flat iron work on hair that is 1.5 inches? Thanks!
0 -
well you would have to be really careful not to burn your head. Maybe if you had a really small iron. But good point maybe wait until it is at least 2 inches.
I have been somewhat lucky that my hair is straight. It's salt and pepper. My natural color was a dark brown and my dark parts look black. besides the fact that I hate myself in short hair no less this military short, i have hair that grows on the back of my neck. I had it trimmed in the salon but it all grew back pretty quick. So this short look is not going to work very well for me. I just had surgery so i can't even reach much over my head right now but i don't think i could reach that to trim it myself anyway.
I am trying to make the best of it but i really hate it and miss my long hair.

ladym - omg your hair is super cute - I WISH I could get mine to do that - I have the most obnoxious curls in my bangs, which obviously makes them seem super short. I use a flat iron, but they don't get smooth enough.
So yes, you can get a tiny flat iron (my stylist gave me one which is about 1/2 inch wide), and it does work to a point. With alot of product (straightening cream before blow dryer, and wax/gel after ironing). I still can't get my bangs to lay flat though, so I kind of push them over to the side. I have a wicked cowlick which doesn't help either.
I'm officially SICK of this stuped curly hair. I had very straight hair before, and I feel like I look like a different person. Yes, it's better than being bald, but right now I'm cranky about it. I go in Thursday for a trim, color again. Hoping that lifts my mood.

IowaSue: I am so sorry for the loss of your cat. Mine are getting older and one of them became diebetic so I have completely had to change their diet and I am hoping this works. Hugs!!
LadyM: Looking good!!! So straight!!!
LtotheK & Saralmom: The only stuff that worked for me to get rid of the "poof" was finger styling with Marc Anthony Straight Cream (Rite Aider). None of the other products worked. I used it on my bangs and holding them down with a brush I would blow dry this part only. Once the rest dried I would use my 1" flat iron--my cheap Revlon one never got hot enough to flatten the frizz. I went to Sally's and bought a professional one, which gets alot hotter.

ladyM.... wow, I am so jealous. I am 7 and half months PFC and I don't have half that hair. Tell us your secret, please. Mine is getting very wavy and if I blow dry it with a round brush to straighten it, I end up with a real butchy poof on top. Isn't there some cartoon character with that hair do? I absolutely have to do something with the color... this dull squirrel hair is driving me nuts! Too chicken to color it myself, so will have to cave in and go see my former colorist.0

Joan: There is a new John Freida product called Blonde Blonder, I think, and you spray it in where you want to highlight and it lightens up your hair and is supposed to look like you went to the beach. Same concept as Sun In but it was some toner in it so you don't get a brassy look. I thought it might help for those of you getting some awful looking brown. The John Freida Mousse would be a good one to try, too, as they have some rich browns-only at Target. (No, I am not a John Freida rep, lol). Whatever works, right?

Love the photos, but hard to beleive it takes sooooo long just to get a short do. Mine is coming in very gray and sticking straight up. Just wish the top would fill in a little and them I would go topless. Was searching the Puritan Pride website for supplements and came across henna for dark brown hair ,was wondering if this was a safer product verses hair dye for covering the grey? I would feel more confident going topless if there wasnt so much grey. Any opinions?

iowasue so sorry abut your cat. i have three cats that are like my children. One is 12 one 11 and one is almost 2. I love them and I know i will be devastated when they go. But I hope you will run out and adopt another one because so many need homes.0

This is my first attempt at posting a picture of my hair. This was taken a couple of weeks ago at 11 months PFC.

My hair used to be very straight and now it looks like chemo curl has won the battle! I'm trying hard to embrace it. I am thankful for hair, but I must admit this curly mop has been quite a challenge. I tried straightening, and then decided to just live with it. I colored it at 12 weeks PFC. When it started growing back, it came in black with some patchy gray in the front. I never had the white hair that others have mentioned. I took MBJ's advice and recently got the Clairol foam haircolor in light brown #6 (which was my natural color prior to chemo), and I was very pleased with the result. The color took very well on my hair. Thanks MBJ for the recommendation.

Beautiful, you mentioned color at 12 weeks, could you go topless, please give me hope, I finish chemo at the end of this month. I am a NC girl and it is getting warm.
