Dilemma: going to dinner with a group tomorrow night in Washington DC....debating whether or not I want to go "topless"...bought a really cute long flow-ie dress, and can't find a hat to match. Getting really tired of trying to match hats to outfits. I'm nervous to go out without anything, but yet no one in Washington knows me anyway! Hoping to have that liberating feeling others claim to get....
Christine, I was on TCH for 6tx...my lashes and brows thinned out just a little bit....but I lost ALL other hair. I was so thankful to keep the lashes and brows...I'm so fair skinned and needed something to distract from my bald head!

thegood5 - IMO you look great!! Go for it. I have about the same amount of hair as you do and I just started going topless last weekend. It feels awesome - biggest problem that I have is that my friends all want to touch it LOL. You were lucky to keep some of your brows and lashes - I lost mine completely and I hated it - there was just NO working with that look! Now, everything is coming back, brows came back fast and fuller than they were...ofcourse the hair on my legs seems to be growing the fastest
Tracie - you going to post any pictures?? I was wondering if using an ash colour would reduce the red. It does on "normal" hair.

thanks marjie. I hate how it looks in the pics I posted...I'm actually able to put a little bit of paste in it and "mess it up" a little tiny bit so it doesn't look like I'm a 3 yr. old boy with a buzz cut. It's just taking that first step out, you know? I think that after that I'll be fine with it....hopefully!

christine47 I lost my lashes 5 weeks after chemo and my brows stated to fall out too but… the brows came in as fast as they fell out so I only had to fill in. eyelashes a bit slower. At almost 15 weeks they are 1/2 way there
thegood5 finding the right bling to wear is so much easier than hats and scarves. It feels wierd the first day but it gets very liberating after that.

thegood5 - yeah, for me, I ran out quickly with my husband to pick up pizza and when I complained that I thought people were looking at me, he said "Who gives a !&$*"....and he was right. The next day (Easter) was full on topless, no looking back. I actually think my hair is even growing a little quicker without being covered now - or maybe that's just me!0

christine47...I lost all my eyelashes and eyebrows about 4 weeks after finishing chemo. Within 1 to 2 weeks they started growing back. I have one of those 10X magnifying mirrors which made the little sprouts visible which was encouraging knowing they were coming back after being so thin for months and then losing them completely. 17 weeks PFC now and brows are full and lashes are almost as long as before chemo. It was discouraging but came back fairly quickly....not like waiting for the hair on our heads to grow back.

marjie and thegood5...I have been going topless for 3 weeks now. I felt and still feel like people are looking at me, but hey...getting through chemo and beating cancer is something we should be proud of. We deserve to go out in public topless. Now I walk proud as it is something to celebrate. It does take several outings to feel this way...but you deserve it and I am sure you will feel this way eventually too.
thegood5....I think you should go topless if you want. Your picture is beautiful. You have beautiful eyes and an awesome complexion. Put on your makeup and your bling and be proud of what you have accomplished! It is very liberating!

thanks girls...I did buy some bling to go along with the dress...nothing too crazy as the dress has a really loud pattern, but a cool necklace to go with it too. Thanks for the encouragement...I just might do it!

I keep getting compliments on my "pixie cut. It's now almost 2 full weeks of topless. Just today this other gal that is also being treated for BC (She just finished chemo. We have the same team) said she loved my cut. I said "yes really expensive cut" It didn't register with her. I had to add I'm never getting my hair cut at our treatment center again.
Other than cutting it above my ears and having it colored I don't do a thing. I'll be posting next Tuesday/Wednesday for the 2 week update (week 15 PCT).

ReadingMama: I wore my wig until my hair was over an inch long and no, it didn't slow down the growth at all. I finally quite wearing wigs when the hair got long enough to peak out around the front of my ears.
I keep trying to post my pictures here without any luck from when I had bleached my hair to now. If anyone can help, I will post some progressive pictures of my growth for the last year.

Slainte We have the same haircut. Seriously it looks like our hair is growing at the exact same pace. I can be your 2 week preview since Tuesday will be 15 weeks for me. Looks great! Doesn't it feel nice to have it colored!0

Curly hair - tell me about it!!! Here are some photos of my hair now 15 months PFC. My last haircut was the end of Feb about 8 weeks ago.

Sandymess - you like just fine! Did you ever find any cream that settled your skin down? I am still slathering my face with my Glaxal rads cream. You know, it just figures that we'd get something on our forehead when we have no chance of bangs to cover it, LOL.
Did you put a colour on your hair? It looks good, I just can't decide what to do with mine.

I have not found any cream that touches that red 'mask' that I have. Didn't order the Glaxal but maybe I should. I did put color on my hair. First time it didn't take, but I did it again last week and it took much better but still not great. I used the Clairol Root stuff in a light golden brown. There is an awful lot of grey to cover up! 0 -

Wow, you gals look great!! I am almost 12 weeks PFC and I don't have nearly the hair that you all have. But I am sooo thankful that it is growing. 2 gals in my support group have no hair and it's been like months and months and months for them. My eyebrows are really taking off, so that helps with that "look". My before hair never grew fast, so maybe that's the reason. I was taking Biotin, but this facial hair is a bit out of control, so stopped it a few days ago. I think I need a lighter dose. I think LAGO you said you take 5 mg. Is that correct? My bottle says 1000mg, I think. Can that possibly be?
Sandymess: Does that Clairol Root stuff come in a lighter blonde? My natural color before was light blonde (did not color it) and this hair coming in is all major salt/pepper. I see no evidence of blonde anywhere. Have no idea how to color s/p! Would like something temporary in case I screw it up. I really do like your light golden brown! Can't believe your pics are 10 weeks. You are growing hair like wild!
MarieK: Okay, tell me that you made a mistake...15 weeks PFC with that head full of hair?? You are sure blessed!....ooops... I just went back to confirm- it's 15 months. I could not believe 15 weeks. You would have been in the Guiness Book of Records! ha Your hair is actually pretty long and I like it both super curly and straight. I have no idea if mine is going to be curly, wavy, straight. Too early. Did yours change texture/color/anything in your 15 month time span?? I have heard that sometimes something changes like a year later. Do you color yours??

3teacher: I'm certain that there are a few shades of blonde in Clairol's root touch-up line. I chose that because there's so little hair to work with. I figured if I made a mistake it wouldn't make too much difference with that stuff. Good luck to you if you try it. ;-)0 -

You have great hair! I haven't gone through everything yet, so I am not there yet, but it is coming. May I ask how many used wigs and how many used hats/cover-ups? I am still trying to decide which to do.

Thanks for all the compliments on my hair. Yes 15 months not 15 weeks - that would be a miracle to have this much hair in that short a time!
My hair was wavy before chemo and much longer. Now it's corkscrew curly and much much thicker than pre chemo.
I'm loving the shorter hair do and even at the length it is now I find it's a bit too long for me. So glad I'm getting a trim this week. It's getting in my eyes - I can't believe I'm saying this!!
I felt like it took forever to grow some bangs/fringe and now I'm complaining about them!!
I wore it gray for almost 14 months but now I colour my hair with semi-permanent hair colour - Natural Instincts? - that I get from Wal-mart.
Robin - I wore wigs after my first chemo. I had at least 6 different looks and because it was winter I did wear one of those hats with hair attached too. It wasn't until I was 4 months PFC that I went topless.

I'm going to say farewell to the Hair thread...Its been 6 months since my last chemo and although my hair does not cover my ears, nor is it long enough to have bangs, I finally feel like I have a natural look instead of the chemo look. What a freaking relief! I lost my hair in May, so its been 11 months of feeling and looking weird. Such a relief to joing the general population again.
My hair went from straight blonde bob to wavy brown/gray pixie, so no, I don't look like 'myself;, but at leasts I'm 'here'. Oh yeah, I dyed it red~ Then brown~ and heading back to blonde asap! So, there is life after hair loss, ladies!! 6 months...maybe a little more, maybe a little less...but having a definitive time frame makes it easier to get thru it I think. Like finally knowing what is making you sick...so you can plan to get well. Just be patient...it will happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the hair thing was one of the bravest things I did the last year. Congratulations to us ALL.
My foobs are still as annoying as hell 9 months later, but that's another thread...

BirdyRobin: I did not get a wig--didn't really think I was a wig person. I have used hats and scarves all this time and gone without anything at home. My husband says he's gotten so used to me without hair, it will be a real adjustment to see me with it!

TNBCRUTH: You will be missed. I don't think we will ever feel like we look like our old selves again. But truth be told I am a totally different person that I was a year ago. Cancer has given me a better outlook on life. I am a kinder, gentler person and am just amazed at how loved I am. I would not have know that people cared so much if I hadn't gotten sick. birdyrobin I would experiment with both. I though I would be a scarf hat person and ordered and borrowed a bunch just to discover I looked like hell in them. Ordered 3 wigs and found 1 to be my favorite that i now wear all the time when out and about. I go without anything at home. Now that its warmer and I had to mow the lawn I wore a baseball cap. I think every occasion may just call for a different headcover, so have fun experimenting!
