Ok ladies, over the weekend I noticed small black spots (hair follicles, I believe), this using a magnifing mirror at a hotel bathroom with excellent lighting. I am home now and do not have magnifing mirror (will go to target and get one tomorrow), now head feels itchy and maybe some red bumps (almost feeling like when you shave bikini line), is this just hair getting started? Many seemed to decribe fuzzy soft hair, this feels like it is going to be course. I took a picture last week at exactly 4 weeks PFC, and will take another this week. I am crazy obsessed about this hair. Took the wig off in the car while driving today since the light was good, to see if there was any change, I am sure people in cars around me thought I was a nut. I frequently see someone pick their nose or talk to themselfs. I am just checkin for hair.

Rachel - Wow look at your hair, that's awesome! Is that the colour it came back or did you help it along?
Christine - sounds like it's getting ready to sprout, try to be patient (I know...it's so hard!). I haven't heard of anyone getting coarse hair right away after chemo, it's a funny texture, very soft. I think it was Lago that described it as "stuffed toy animal hair" and that's about right. I took Carrol's advice and took a picture every week or two - you can really see the difference then, rather than trying to see it in the mirror everyday.

Marjie I don't think that was me. I call my hair texture puppy fur. I too now try and take photos every two weeks but intially I didn't even pay attention to it.0

Lago, yes we were on the same schedule. Really glad to be done. When we were doing chemo i thought time was going so slow, but now when i think about it (and i do often) this past year has really gone by fast. June 9th will be a year since my surgery.
Rachel, your hair looks great! My hair seems to be growing fast and it is very curley in the back but straighter on the top. So i guess i have half a jewish girl fro. lol! The bangs are taking the longest and i so wish i had them. In good time i'm sure.
I have to agree with Lago and Marjie about the texture, soft but kinda weird feeling. I should take pictures more often but i don't really like looking at me so much. But maybe i'll start so i can notice my progress.
Is anyone taking Arimedex? I just started about a month ago and i've heard it slows down hair growth. I sure hope not. Anyway it's getting late and i just got home from work and i hear my bed calling my name.
G'night!!!
Pam

Pumela I've been on Anastrozole (generic Arimidex) since March 1st. As you can tell from the pictures my hair growth hasn't slowed… not even on my legs. According to my gyno some women are affected by less estrogen and some aren't. BTW I don't have any SE from Anastrozole. Also I've heard Herceptin slows hair growth but I have no issues.

Rachel, that hair style is adorable on you. It has really come back nicely for you. I little gel and you are good to go!

I'm thinking of checking in with my hairdresser for a "trim"....just take the fuzzy ends off, clean up the back of my neck and maybe trim it around the ears. How exciting is that??0
-
Go, marjie! Very exciting!!
Rachel, you have bangs!! You look great! I can't wait till I have a little somethin somethin in the front. My avatar shows me at 14 weeks. Today it's 16 weeks...maybe I should take another pic to compare. I'm not sure it has grown at all, but it sure has thickened up. So weird to feel all the little stubbies coming through when I rub my head.

Marjie I've been cutting it myself above the ears.0

I trimmed it twice so far in 6 months. very little though. now i don;t want to cut it at all i want it to grow over my ears. so it is looking pretty shaggy. but i think i can stop trimming my neck now the hair covers that now.

I'm too chicken to cut mine. I haven't looked in the back, but I can feel 2 spots at my neckline where it comes down a little longer than the rest. I figure, maybe if I don't see it no one else will!0

Can anyone tell me how to upload my photos here? I was going to show you all my hair, or lack thereof. I clicked on the little tree icon above and my photos are on my memory stick. I don't see how to upload it to here.

I'm sure this question has been asked here a hundred times, but I can't find it. How soon can we color the regrowth? Thanks.

I was told I could dye it when ever I wanted. I had it professionally done April 18th, 3 months post last chemo tx.

Thanks ladies. I will have to try it.

Thanks for the feedback on my hair. I haven't taken a lot of pictures of my growth but came on this thread so many times looking at hair growth.
Marjie--When my hair started to grow back--it was a dullish brown colour (I said it looked brown with ash on top--not the best look!). I got a hair colour done (some organic rinse colour done at the place where I bought my wig and where they did my GI Jane cut last year) but now the colour is completely different--I am thinking it is the sun. Now my colour is kinda reddish weird colour. I will probably colour it again to try and get it close to my old colour.
I have decided to get it cut this week--it is starting to look messy/crazy. Hoping that a little trim will help it grow into some sort of style. It will be my first haircut/trim since last May--prior to BC diagnosis.

I have bangs! Sort of...
Latest pics of me - now at 9 months PFC. Have a new product to recommend for straightening those annoying chemo curls - John Frieda spray on straightener - I used my usual straightening cream before blow drying, then here and there spritzed the new spray on my dry hair right before using the flat iron. I feel like it made my hair feel much straighter, and even longer - and I wore my "bangs" down today. (Still look like my mom and can't wait for some more length though!)

Yup those are bangs. You have an official "looks normal" hair cut. I like the short hair.

love it saralmom!

saralmom looks great! I am going to have to try that product. My hair is really curly now at 6 months. I think it's still a bit too short to flat iron. Do you straighten yours everyday? Does it damage your hair? Would love to see a pic of your hair curly.0
-
You look pretty happy in those photos, saralmom!

Thanks everyone. I do feel pretty happy and normal lately.
Carrol - here's a pic of my curls from a few weeks ago. I have used a 1/2 inch flat rion since about 7 months PFC. I was doing it every day - but lately I have a system which I don't hate where I let my curls air dry and I wear an elastic headband holding my "bangs" back. I don't like putting my hair through all that heat, etc everyday, AND its such a PITA that I avoid it unless I'm working or going out somewhere nice. I started doing bikram yoga a few weeks ago and I'm going tomorrow, so it's a total headband day. I liken my headband days to my ponytail days of yore - those days where I just don't feel like dealing with the hair.

thanks sara, yup that is pretty much what my hair is looking like. I am going to look for a little flat iron and that straightener this week i think.0
-
saralmom, your recent hair pic looks almost exactly like my hair cut pre BC! My hair however was straight.
Over the weekend I was traveling and they had magnification mirror in the bathroom and great light, thought I was seeing some progress. I went to Target today and bought small mirror with 3x magnification, all I really see is my wrinkles, no change in the hair . Tomorrow is 5 weeks PFC. Traveling this weekend for my mom's 75th birthday and parents 50th wedding anniversery, it will be so hard having to wear the wig around family that I have not seen for years.
