Suzanne - I know a few ladies whose hair was very slow coming back, or came back very thin, but eventually it did fill in.  I agree with Lago.

Congratulations to everyone with their hair growing back.  I have two more chemo treatments and I am hoping to start looking for fuzz sometime in July.

Katherinenaomi your hair is beautiful.  Looks just like mine when I had hair.  I always kept my hair short and it was curly,  Seeing yours today really lifted my sprints.

    Marije:
Love the photo, agree with everyone that you look like a rocking athlete :)

    Christine:
Oh do post some pics soon, I'm anxious to compare since we're chemo "end date" buds :)

    KatherineNaomi:
I love your hair. It definitely looks like an "on purpose" 'do instead of a "I'm growing out from chemo" 'do :)

    Suzanne:
I agree with Lago as well, but it's good that you got everything checked out. Do post a pic if you can.

    For me:
5 wks and 1 day PFC today. Still have the peach fuzz going on (totally white!) Anxious to see something sprouting but wishing it were 10" long and dark :)

    ____________________________________________

I had lunch with a friend at work (she's kind of frustrating anyway). Here's what she said to me 3 mos ago (in the middle of chemo):
"So, do you REALLY need a scarf? Or are you just not wanting to do your hair?"

Then...here's what she said to me yesterday at lunch:
"I honestly can't believe your hair hasn't come back yet..."

    ___________________________________________

Seriously--I'm starting to question why I'm friends with her at allYell

    She's completely clueless :)

    Have  a great weekend everyone!!

slcst I get all sarcastic when that crap happens.

"Yes my 5 strands of hair are dirty. Just didn't have the time to comb them today either"
"Of course my hair has come back. I'm just wearing this scarf to bug you."

Seriously you need to have a heart to heart. Let her know that for most women losing their hair is the hardest part of this process and she is not making you feel any better about it. When you have enough hair to go topless you will.

I had my first haircut today....or really I should say a trim. I am a little over 6 months post chemo and although I have hair...it hasn't grown as fast as others. It is strange as my hair seemed to grow fast pre-cancer! My hair now has a shape at least and isn't as crazy looking.

Suzanne....my hair took a while to ebpven start sprouting. I finished treatment at end of Nov (had Taxotere) and it didnt even start growing till around Jan. Then it started growing faster. Seems that, like everything, we are all so different on how we react.

Slcst....I have a friend (or I should say acquaintance) who would fit in really nice with your friend. The things she would say....I have learned to ignore her and not spend any significant time with her.

I did it - finally.  This is my hair growth 8.5 months after chemo.  If it was just short like eveyone else's, I would go out without a headcover.  I think this is worse than being bald.

I did ask about Rogaine and Nioxin.  I was told (by oncology) that they would not help regenerate what's not there.  Dermatology had no suggestions nor did my primary care physician.

At least I now have a really cute wig.

DoubleWhammy~the thing is, if I saw you out in public, I wouldn't think a thing of it.  That has been a big change for me since my dx...I don't judge anyone I see..you don't know what their life story is.  If I see someone that looks like they may be going thru some kind of treatment or something, I don't feel pity for them, I feel proud for them.  It's damn hard to go out looking different than before, but you should be proud for all you have conquered and try not to let it get to you that people may look at you, you are a fighter!  I think you are beautiful, and as I've gotten to know many amazing women on here, we are all in this together, and there are A LOT of us.  As my sister tells me, I may not have much hair, but at least I "have" hair...thankful for every day that I'm here!  xo

LOL, lago! Good retorts to rude people!

KatherineNaomi - your hair is just beautiful! If my curls looked like that I wouldn't have snipped them off the other day! Yours are shiny and healthy-looking. Mine were frizzy and just looked like a bad 'fro.

Underneath the frizzy curl it looked smooth and wavy, so, the other day I went to my hairdresser and had him trim off the frizzy tips. So far, so good. It looks smooth now, instead of frizzy, and now it's just wavy looking. There are a few spots where it's still really curly, but not frizzy. He said I may need one more trim, but I'm not going to do that unless they start getting frizzy again.

So anyway, that's how mine is growing back. At least it's thick, but where it used to grow a walloping inch per month, now it's down to about 1/2 inch per month. I suppose it's all just a waiting game - all good things in time. When the hair follicles get over the shock of their lives, I imagine they'll just settle down back to what you were born with. My mother's did. Her hair was always thick and straight, she lost it with chemo (8 years ago), it came back curly initially, and now it's back to thick and straight.

I have found that I have NO patience for stupidity anymore!!  I'm sarcastic as hell, lol.

DoubleWhammy - it must be frustrating not to be getting any guidance or advice from your drs.  It doesn't look as bad to us as it does to you...understandable!  I would go ahead and try some of the hair restoring products anyway, make sure you're taking your vitamins and getting a really balanced diet too!

When I went to see my onc after my hair was slowly coming in, it had the male-pattern baldness thing going and I was pretty much bald from the forehead going up. My onc looked at it and said, "I wonder why?" hmmmmm....could it be chemo? Taxotere in particular? I think Taxotere shocks the crap out of hair follicles, for most of us anyway.

There was a topic about hair not coming back after T/C. Unfortunately, it is possible. I remember my onc asking me to take off my wig 3 months after chemo and how happy he was with my hair growth. I asked him then about permanent hair loss after T/C and he said it was possible. They just do not like to say it ahead.

Maybe if you type T/C and permanent hair loss in search that topic would pop up.

My dermatologist told me that permanent hair loss on taxotere was possible but rare. At the time I was seeing him for another of those "rare SE" (although not as rare as permanent hair loss) with the nail lifting/oozing crap.

This is the thread but be warned there are some very angry & upset women over there. I do feel for anyone who has to go through this. There are also women that happy to be alive. I hope yours is just slow: linky to taxtoere permanent hair loss .

Double Whammy: i also, am having a very hard time with my hair. i was prepared to have the back not grow fast, and was all prepared, with clios and such: WHAT a shock, that its in the font, the male pattern thing.

these ladies have VERY much encouraged me, and given me great info... im starting to try the generic rogaine, to see if the bald parts will finally grow.

thanks for the info re: taxotere.. i had like 15 lighter tx bc they had to titrate it down for me, after a bad reaction to ac... that very well be why its; groing weird, and slowly in the front!

its gotten long in the back, and i got a trim on the front, covers the bald spots better. i was doing the comb over trick, but it fills it out better, short. i'll try to get a pic this wkend for you guys...

my onco also said rogaine absolutely doesn't work, nor will biotin.. know i know they don't know, cause these ladies have done what they said couldn't happen! so, im still hopeful!!!    3jays

I just updated my transition hair photo online. Not a huge difference but you can tell it's getting longer. I'm going for a cut on Wednesday. The back and sides are getting a bit messy and long. I have lots of cowlicks in back so it's a little wavy.

Funny but I can't believe I wore the same earrings/necklace for the photo.

lago, you can definitely tell it's getting longer! I am somewhere around your end of March picture, so I hope in a couple of months I'll be close to what you're looking like - planning on going topless end of August in Las Vegas.

Thanks for sharing the photos; it gives us a point of reference as well as something positive to look forward to.

Lago, i love the big earrings with the short hair.  We went out to see a band this weekend and my DH kept saying "your sure you dont want to take your hair?''  i think he was afraid I would embarrass him going topless, but my friends were wonderful and told me how cute it was short ( such good friends lying to me like that) I made sure I had on make-up and big earrings. So now that DH is over the shock of me being topless, it makes it easier for me.

Marjie  funny about the part...with it being so short I find I have to part mine like a little boys hair, on the side, with a kind of comb over.

Thanks everyone. You guys make me feel like a starlet. I've had a part for some time. My hair is puffy and sticks out straight in some places so that's why you might not see the part… good thing because that means you can't see the gray either.

Not sure what browser you're using but if you zoom in you can see the dates in the lower left hand corner of each photo. The last photo was June 2, photo before that was June 13… about 3 weeks.

I am 4 weeks PFC and not much has happened... I had some growth in the middle of chemo so my crown has about an inch and I have 1/2 inch on sides and back, but top and fron is stubble and temples has nothing (although I think I can feel some stubble) ... does that sound normal? After reading the male pattern baldness thing of course it makes me worry.
