I am five weeks pfc. So far the hair is very straight and seems about the same length all around but the hair on top sticks up and the sides and back lays flat. Right now it is short enought that it doesn't look too weird. I would kind of like to get the white ends trimmed off but I cant bear to get anything taken off yet. Plus it's still so short they would probably have to use clippers to do it.

This is the time of year we usually get family photos. I mentioned this to my DH and he said maybe we should wait until my hair grows in more. I was a little insulted. I am still going to take the kids. It will be a year before I look like I have a normal hairstyle and I will have missed a year of the kids growing. Plus I want to get some photos of the kids and my mom since she has been here for the last 6 months helping me out. A memento for her.

Rocky, no it keeps coming back curly. Our plan is to keep the back and sides very short until the top catches up. Only one side is curly which is a real nightmare to control. I'm a super short hair person anyway, so it's not much of a stretch for me. But I would like to not see my scalp on the left side. My hair is normally very thick all over.

I would much rather style my hair in a hair style like Tamsin Greig's that is shorter in front and longer in the back than cut what precious little growth I have. Simply cannot bear that! There will come a day when I'm ready to cut my hair, but not yet (4 mo PFC).

After 10 months, my hair is still in ringlets! I'm thinking this is how it will be. I'm definitely not going to cut it off to find out!!! A big fat round brush can do miracles!

As my hair started to grow in more, I trimmed all the bunny fur ends off. It is still very soft and silky...so different than it used to be and still straight as a pin. I can spike it but I don't have any product to keep it that way, so I just do it when I am not going out of the house! I am actually too old for the "spikey" look anyways. I guess that style has come and gone. That's me....a day late and a dollar short.

JP go for the family picture, what difference does it make it's u right now and there's nothing wrong with how u look. So just do it.

Jp- I can understand not wanting to cut a micron off your hair. My hairdresser told me she had a young client who did not cut off the white fuzz until her hair was shoulder length and even then it was emotional and required friends to be present.
I would take the picture, you can always decide not to display it. Not sure what I would do, it is easier to give advise sometimes than follow it.
I have white spikes that started at taxol# 2 and started to fall out at taxol # 6. Every day 50 or more fall out, some seem to be growing still. I would be hard pressed to cut any of it. It feels a lot more comfortable with hats and wigs to have a layer of fuzz so I hope I keep some.
Nails feeling tender and like I shouldn't do certain tasks. Advise?0 -
Nkb - My suggestion is be as gentle as possible with the nails. All of my fingernails have some issues (mainly lifting) and I still can't open soda cans or do anything that stresses them or they lift further. DH is still doing dishes : ) BTW I am 2 months PFC.
Hair - I have a question for the ladies further out than 2 months PFC...my hair was brown and now it is black and silver. Did anyone's hair color go back from black to brown after a while? Does the silver disappear or is that permanent too? I'm curious as to whether this will be my new permanent color.

Slak, I am a natural redhead, and I was very sad to discover my hair coming back in various shades of brown and black, with lots of gray, and very little red. Within a couple of months, the red began to reappear, and I am once again a redhead, although more "rusty" than auburn because there are a lot more grays than there used to be. I can deal with the color - it's the sheep's wool texture and curl that I hate.

slak my hair had some dark in it but it came back all silver, but actually a pretty silver. So my dtr foils it dark and now it looks like my hair is dark but has been died silver too. Works pretty well for me.
and my nails are ok except a couple of them have started lifting off their beds again. Now I' over 2 yrs. out and my bad nails are kind of sideways and my toes nails grew back all sideways. IGH no open toe for me.
I thought all this would be way over (this stuff-nails) but it started all over again now ????? I'm taking perscription vitamins so I would think that would help--I really don't know--but it's ugly-=I put bandaids on the bad ones when I go out. No one needs to see this (I think) especially when u'r going out to dinner.LOL

slak - mine came in black with gray also...I covered the gray with a temp color that I left on for a really long time the first go around. At about 12 weeks or so, the new growth looked lighter so my next temp. color was a shade lighter...Now at 14+ weeks, my hair is definitely coming in like when I was a kid...a much softer brown..so I'm gonna take it down another notch on the next dye job :-)0

Also interested in the color.I was more of a mousy brown and mine came back in as the black and silver.Was more silver than I could take so for now I did a Henna color of dark brown.It took darker on the black and I lighter brown on the silver so I think without the silver color it appears thicker.Also it was very soft and just last week the top started to get a texture and seems a bit wavy.I am 3 months out and am wondering can some one tell me at what length I will be able to determine if it is going to come in with the Chemo curls.I am hoping it will just stay with the wave but not holding my breath.

lmlola, I don't know if there is some magic point at which youbare safe from the curls, but I am 7.5 months out and no curls. My hair is mostly straight with a slight wave, which is how it was before as well. The texture is still a bit dry and strange, but that could also be from the femara.

Wow Mommie lucky you I would say you are safe from the curls.Can I ask how long your hair is now? I can't yet measure mine though I have tried.
My sides are still straight just noticed the texture on top and I love it if it stays at that.My hair had just enough natural wave so I could dry straight or let go curly with just a little product.That's what I want back but my sisters hair was always very curly and I know she has a hard time managing it hoping it doesn't come back as hers 0 -
I'm 14 weeks PFC. My hair was curly before chemo and so far now it is straight! It grew in first on the top, which is the opposite of a lot of people here and was slower on the sides and back. I've finally reached the point where people really are starting to think my hair is this short on purpose! So nice to be bareheaded!!

Lola, mine is still quite short, but I also got it trimmed and shaped about a month ago. Some people can't bear to cut it, but I thought it felt good to have enough hair (very barely) to go to the hair dresser.

Imlola, I noticed "ripples" forming on the back of my head at about 11 weeks PFC. My hair came in super thick and super curly - I could not feel the wind in my hair until just recently, and even now it has to be a stiff breeze to get through.
I found a keratin product that seems to help tame the curls somewhat - it's called Brazilian Tech One-n-Only Smoothing Lotion. It works well enough that I am tempted to spring for a salon keratin treatment.

wow dechi that is incredible that at just 14 weeks that people think it is short on purpose.Now I am really jealous.
Momine I think I am going to be one of those that can't bare to get it cut time will tell on that.Not even close enough to consider a trim yet,maybe its me but it does seem like it is picking up speed.
MizMarie I think that is a very ggod description "ripples",so sigh might get the curls yet.I will start looking into the Brazilian Tech just in case.Is this something that has to be ordered on line or did you find it in Sally or someplace else? Thanks for the tip

I bought Brazilian Tech at Sally's, but it's also available through amazon. There is a whole line of products, including shampoo, conditioner, etc.
I always had thick curly hair, but the curls were loose and I could either scrunch and go, or blow dry into a more finished style. Sigh... I do miss having nice hair and I hate that I obsess over it so much now - it has become the first thing I notice about other women's appearance.

Has anyone had a trim on their more curly areas and end up with a bit straighter hair left? I'm 8 months PFC, but I never realized that the growing out process was going to be such a pain and so time consuming.
Some days my hair looks like I picked this style and other days it's just a mess. Creams, gels and a mini-flat iron takes more time than I ever imagined. I also have to wash my hair each day because of these products. The idea that this may go on for a few years is scary. Maybe the sooner some of this curl is gone, the less product and the easier it will get. Any advise??

Rocky as it gets longer the weight will hold down some of the curl. I just blow it out and let it flip up a bit and try not to fight the curls. It's been 1 1/2 yrs PFC for me. I had a trim at 3 months and one about 2 months ago. The ends were kind of dry, my stylist thinks its from the drugs. The ends look crspy and the new hair growing in seems healthier. I don't like to flat iron that really dries out the hair, and I don't shampoo it every day. I do however use the blow dryer every day but only about 15 mins.

Rock- I wonder that also. Mine is spiky white and some is growing and some is falling out- I have 2 taxols left. When the surgeon said your beautiful hair is going to fall out. She didn't tell me it will take 3 years from the time it falls out to get to where it is now( 2-3 inches below my shoulders). I somehow thought as soon as chemo stops it is just going to grow back in over a few Months, how silly of me .
I guess you can handle so much loss at a time- and there was plenty of loss from the surgeon without so much reality about the hair regrowth.
All those products out there have a needy consumer I guess. My hairdresser is talented ( and has super curly hair herself) so I am relying on her to Shepard me through this.
A few years ago there was a Japanese product to straighten your hair for,6 months. It was put on at the salon. It was super pricy tho. I haven't heard anything about it in awhile. Wonder what that would do to chemoed hair. Anyone know?0 -
Carrol2- I know you said you had two trims, but how long (how many inches) would you say your hair is?

Rocky, my hair touches my shoulders and I have had several trims. I am about 27 mths. PFC. It would be longer without the trims, but I like my hair to look really shiny and healthy. When my hair came in after chemo, it looked seriously like a poodle perm - intense curls. It took 18 months to return to my normal hair texture. It still has slight wave, but no real curl anymore. You'll get there I promise. I know how hard it is to be patient.
