Lori, my Onc specfically said not to do anything to the facail hair that comes in as your hair comes back too.  Not sure what the reasoning was

Question for those of you who have shaved your own heads....how did you do this? I just got mine cute fairly short in anticipation of my hair loss. And I was going to go to the salon for the shave. But I can sure use the money if I can do it here myself. (or a friend)

Do you use clippers? Or can I use a throw a way razor? Any help is appreciated! Helen

vinogal,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute hair.  Dont know what your hair looked like before,,,,,but that hair cut suits you to a tee.  What do u use on your hair to get it to stand up like that?  soooooooo adorable.

When my hair started falling out,,,,,,,,,I had my family use those clipper things that the guys use.  Used the lowest setting which was pretty darn short.  But worked out good.

Helen.....start with clippers........real simple.......I used to do my son's hair.......before he got too cool for that..........your head may still feel really odd.....I know mine did.......I didn't get relief until my dh shaved it with a razor......just make sure to use a fresh blade.......I certainly wouldn't think it's something you need to spend money on at the salon.

Cindy....I use a tiny flat iron to make it stand up and then use gel to get the seperation and then hairspray for staying power......bit of a process........but only takes me less than 5 minutes.......I must admit I miss my long so much.......but this is really easy.

I don't know if this would work for someone with sensitive skin, but, a little while after my brother (a barber) buzzed my haid, I took the rest off with nair.

On shopzilla.com I typed in Remington titanium womens shavers and was sooooo pleased to see the one that my friend bought for over $100.00 was discounted to $28.95!  Of course shipping was close to 12.00 but still for under $40.00 got a great deal.  Comes with a cleaning unit and charger.  Shaves my head very nicely.

I don't know how old this post is as there is no date on it,that's one thing i don't like about this board, can't tell how old the posts are,so i date mine.I digress. I had dh use the clippers on my head after cutting the bulk off with scissors, then the clippers without an attachment. My oncologist said NOT to shave it,because there's a chance you could get nicked, then get an infection. So we did as he said.

I finished chemo on feb 5th and my hair started coming back in last week.

Just a word of caution to you ladies wanting to shave your heads. If you have already started chemo, you should not use a disposable razor, or any other razor. You risk cutting yourself and then getting an infection. Please use clippers.

Vino, you look so cute. You and Spring have blonde hair. Did it come back blonde, or did you bleach it?

    Hello,

I just got diagnosed and I expect to begin chemo in a few weeks after all of the initial tests are complete.  I have questions about how to approach the whole process regarding dealing with the hair loss.  I was thinking that I should get a short wig and cut my hair to match.  That way, When I am done with Chemo and it starts to grow back it would be a shorter time until it gets back to the way people remember me and I can get rid of the wig sooner.  (right now my hair is slightly below my shoulders - I don't think it'll ever be that long again!)

VInogal:  You look great!  You are an encouragement to me.

Any tips on the best way to handle this stinky situation would be helpful.

Hi Janet.  Before I began chemo, I had almost shoulder length hair.  I had it cut very short and then 2 weeks after my 1st chemo it started to fall out.  My BF buzzed it off for me at that point.  It was early December and getting cooler so I wore a lot of wool caps when I wasn't at work.  I had purchased a wig before I lost my hair so I was prepared.  I didn't and still don't like wearing wigs too much.  I wear them to work but that's about it.  Now that my hair is slowly growing back in, I have started going out in public "topless".  I think it's all a personal choice for you.  At first I was really worried about what everyone else thought and that really affected my self esteem and confidence.  Now that it's getting hot here in Texas, it's a lot easier to go without anything.  Do what's right for YOU! :)

Laniney64:  Thank you so much for your response.  Does the "64" refer to your birthyear?  If it does, we are the same age, as well as the diagnosis- Stage II; Grade 3; ER-PR-;HER2-.  I was feeling like I was the only Stage 3, triple negative out there!  Where are you with your treatment and/or surgery?

Anyone use Rogaine?  (sigh) Just kidding. It's me Ms. Impatience, again.

Elaine-I wish I could get the nerve to go out in public topless.  If I didn't have these 3 bald spots in between all the fuzz and crazy long strands of hair I might feel better.  About the bald spots.. I'm getting nervous about that. I would think that I would feel as least some fuzz by now on this one bald spot, but I don't.  Aghs.
