crazyride you look beautiful!  Yes, growing your hair over the ears is a bad phase.  I almost got it cut then because it looked so shaggy.  Once I could put it over the ears I was good.

jpmomof3 the gray hair does grow faster and thicker which was the reason I colored my hair as soon as I could.  However the werewolf hair I grew on my face was pretty dark.  I am 2 years PFC and I have yet to get a haircut.  I had one trim that was so minor I am not sure it counts as a cut.  As to when to get a trim it depends if you hair is in good shape then you can wait if the ends are dry then it is best to trim.  Another factor is preference some ladies want their old texture back as soon as possible other like me embrace the curls.

GCE   Herceptin seems to slow the growth on some ladies.  Are you taking Biotin?

    Crazyride, you look so pretty.

Skimommi, hard to say how long it is. Ill take a picture this weekend & post it. I am 13 months pfc and last week was my first trim, and even that was tiny just to skim the dead ends. Unfortunately, the sides and front are not as long as the back.

    Hi,

I am preparing for chemo and looking at wigs on the web. Thanks to all who recommended comfortable wigs! One thing I had not thought about at all, but it came to my atention on some of the sites - was eyebrow loss.

I am a fairly casual person, have short hair that I usually style by putting my fingers through it, and wear hardly any makeup - usually none at all. I am thinking about the wig for work only- I teach at a college- but the eyebrow thing....

Any simple suggestions? And I do mean simple. Have never used an eyebrow pencil in my life.

Denise my eyebrows thinned on chemo but I was never without completely. I did fill them in with the Anastasia Brow Duo. They also have a kit with stencils. The did start to shed 5 months PFC but grew back quickly. If you are in the USA I highly recommend going to a Looks Good Feel Better program (American Cancer Society program). They teach you how to draw on eyebrows, care for your skin on chemo etc. You can also find tips on the site here: linky

JP, 4 inches sounds like heaven to me.  I am nearly 8 months PFC and have 2 to 3 inches all around.  As my hair is naturally curly and came back een curlier, it appears much shorter unless I have it blown out stratight which I have done only once.  I haven't cut it at all and don't anticipate doing so until it is solidly chin level (and then just to giv eit the barest shape-up).

    Best.

islandmom - funny you mentioned the werewolf hair on your face - I never realized how much I have of that until all my head hair was gone.. my sideburns doesn't seem to be going onywhere.. does it eventually fall out? Fortunately my chin hairs and mustache left .. LOL..

Thanks girls for getting back to me about the hair dye. Guess I have about a month...how long until you were able to get it cut into a cute style? I can't wait to be able to get a pixie cut, but I can't imagine being able to do that anytime soon. Right now my husband and I have the exact same hair cut and color. I hate it. We made the mistake of wearing similar sneakers and black tops the other day to a doctor appointment and people called us twins. It sucked!

Kelly my hair turned the same color as my husband's too (black and gray) when it grew back. I don't have black hair. I cut and colored my hair 13 weeks post final chemo. You can see it here in my hair transition linky. It starts from the right. You'll notice that all of a sudden my hair color changes on 4.29.2011 photo.

But it's back to it's old color and texture including the gray… so I'm still coloring it. It takes about a year to 18 months to get your old hair back.

Crazy- your hair looks adorable to me.

Cut and colored my hair at 17 weeks PFC. Made a huge difference. Colored it 7 weeks later, no cut. I have chemo curls only in the lower back of my hair and use a straightner and with a few swipes they are gone. I'd probably have to cut 1.5 inches off to get rid of them and even out the back- but, no plans to do that yet.

I go back in a week for color again and will probably not cut it. I think my hairstylist could make it look really cute, but it will take a lot longer to grow out if I want it cute all along the way.

My wig had bangs which I pulled a little lower when my eyebrows were mostly gone, you couldn't tell as much that they were gone. My eyebrows are quite light strawberry blond, so not as visible anyway before lost. I love having them back tho.

Denise51 I've heard from a lot of women that are undergoing chemo right now that didn't loose their brows or lashes, or that they may have just thinned. It does sound like those don't bail out until PFC. I've been using Brian Joseph's gel since a week before starting chemo, and every day since. It is expensive so I hope it will work, but based on everyone else in the same part of treatment as I am I can't say for sure yet. Good luck to you!

IamNancy The hair on my face did not fall out.  I waited for couple months but it did not look like it was going anywhere.  I had laser hair removal and that worked well.  I had the most hair on my cheeks so I definitely felt like a werewolf.  You are lucky that your chin are mustache left, maybe the rest will follow.

OK ladies, I tried spiking my hair for the first time today.  I don't think it's a look I can pull off.  I think it looks better smoothed down.  Anyway, I got some gel, and we are talking only spike up the top right?  Leave the sides and back smoothed down?

Victoria - a friend of mine wears spiky hair - she just spikes the top - the sides and back are smooth - it always looks cute.

islandmom - I am considering lightly shaving the sideburns -- its fuzzy and very light

    Denise,

I didn't lose my eyebrows or lashes either.  I too am not a makeup person and never bothered to use a pencil.  My eyebrows and lashes looked slightly thinner, but fine throughout chemo.

    Crazyride,  You have great hair!!

Thanks IamNancy - Not quite sure I have the knack for it though.

I seemed to have grown back more facial hair than I had, especially on the sides from my ears to my jaw.  I used an electric razor to just buzz  it off.  Or maybe now it's just blacker.  Anyway, it's gone.  Cool

I want to post a picture of my hair now at 7 1/2 months PFC.  The pictures are huge. Can anyone tell me what dimensions I should shrink them to?

This is my hair at 7 1/2 months PFC.  Very thick and curly. I had straight hair before. Has been colored a few times, never cut. Sorry its so large, I can't figure out how to make it smaller!

This is my hair 8 1/2 months PFC.  It used to be straight and has come in very thick and curly.  I take Biotin 10,000 mcg daily. I have colored it a few times. It hasn't been cut yet.

My eyebrows are pretty thick anyway so maybe my situation will be similar.

Thank you, Nancy........I think I'm going to need a trim soon.  I kind of like the wash 'n wear aspect of it right now.  I do miss my longer hair though.

Jp, rnmom, & crazyride - I'm now 44 wks PFC & have had 3 trims + this last cut actually felt like a "real" cut since I also had it thinned all over.  The longer it gets, the puffier it goes & got to be a total mop to the point that I just couldn't stand it anymore.  Didn't think I'd be saying that so soon, but I really like the freedom of how easy care it is now so I'll be keeping it uber short through the summer anyways.  I'll probably never get used to this gray  but I'm staying away from as many toxic chemicals in personal care products as I can.  We're getting an infrared sauna so that's another reason I want to keep my hair short & easy.

If you can, embrace those curls those of you that had poker straight hair before as I did - mine reverted back to the former straight way too soon for my liking!  I found the whole growing in process fascinating & now it feels like so long ago that I was waiting for it to begin.

Since the first fallout 6 weeks after chemo ended, my lashes have fallen out for a third cycle (every 3 months), but this time my right eye's went first before the left eye followed suit.  They seem to be taking longer to grow back in length this time too. My brows only seemed to thin a teensy bit this time & since my brows are thin anyway, that was a bonus.

Nice seeing all your progress shots, Ladies!

Wow, I love your hair!  That is a great cut!  I hope mine will look that cute one day.  I think I've decided spiky is not going to work for me, but wispy = <3
