I am going to try this,

Pro hair tip: Did you know that Caffeine and Ginseng have been used to promote good circulation? By applying them to the scalp you're giving your hair follicles everything they need to grow hair quickly and more efficiently.

Trying to grow you hair out? Look no further! Our new "Grow Long" hair care system will boost those locks ASAP! Available online at Walmart.ca and Ultabeauty.com

hmmm... I wonder if massaging coffee grounds into your scalp would do anything?

blue koala: I have about 1 cm of hair and my FINAL chemo is friday. My hair follicles are definitely tender. Snorted a little when I thought about you rubbing coffee grounds on your head.

So the Marc Anthony product I posted above I saw on Facebook and asked them if it would help with growing hair after chemo. They are sending me samples and have asked me to let them know how I like it. At this point, with work approaching in a month or so, I am willing to give it a shot and see if it helps. I have weekly pictures until now so I will be able to compare. I am also on Hercepton still. Will keep you posted on the progress

22 days pfc and my hair is coming out in my hands the way it did 6 months ago. And it isn't any easier the second time. I just don't understand this. I was having "that feeling" of my hair follicles hurting the last several days, but just couldn't believe it was going to happen again.

Sorry Frill. That is very frustrating. The good news is that it will come back. Sucks to take a step back. Kelly

So sorry, Frill. I had kept some of my hair all the way through, until nearly the end of my 6 months of chemo. My last infusion was 7/14, and I now have a 5:00 shadow on my head, little eyebrows and short stubby eyelashes. Hang in there

Smurfette, just wanted to say that I have chemo curls too, AND that my hair is also a lot longer on top than on sides (I actually have a few baldish spots on sides, but hair around them hides them), AND I look in the mirror and think I look a lot older! I share your pain...

I am going to get my first trim/cut since chemo next week. Will report back and post pics if I get brave.

    Hugs to all

I was thinking I need a cut too Octogirl. My Daughter in Law is a Hair dresser. I will be seeing her early next month and have already asked her if she will even it up. Hubby wanted to run the clippers over the top for me. No thanks. LOL.

Anyone found any good gel to keep the hair down while growing it out. Something that doesn't make it look greasy.

Oh my! I just found this board. I will be watching it closely to see all of your "grow it back fast" tips. I start chemo in 2 weeks and am scared to death!!!! But mostly because of my hair! I'm not coping with this well at all. Have daily meltdowns because of it! This is SO hard!!

New to the board. I'm sharing a picture of my hair 4 months PFC. I'm deciding whether or not I should buzz the sides and back, I'm finding it very hard to smooth it out above my ears, and the back is looking really ratty. I'm wondering how my hair will grow out if I leave the top long but cut the sides and back? Thoughts?

frill I just read up and saw that your hair is falling out again, I'm so sorry. That would be an awful feeling I hope it is very temporary

Hello,  For those struggling with their new hair texture, it is generally not permanent.  I'm about 18 months PFC and my hair is just about back to normal but I keep it short anyway, so it may take longer for longer hair to grow all the way out.  I decided to go with the curl and not try to straighten it.  I did use a curl definer to prevent it getting frizzy and also used a wax to keep any stray hairs in place.  People who didn't know I had lost my hair just thought it was a style.  To encourage my hair to grow, I used Nutri-Ox, a generic from Sally Beauty for Nioxin.  I don't know for sure if it helped but it did leave my scalp pleasantly tingly after I used it.  I also take Biotin for hair and nails.  Good Luck everyone,  MJS

Thanks MJS...yes, for some reason I have the gut feeling that my curls are not permanent. I've always had wavy hair, but it hasn't been really curly like it is now since I was five years old. I keep thinking this is the 'baby' hair and eventually it will grow out and look more like it used to pre-bc. We'll see. I am grateful to have it, even if I think it makes me look older (it seems like an old fashioned 'style'. As I mentioned earlier, I will see what my stylist can do when I see her Tuesday!)

    Hugs;

Kelly, love that hair it really looks great on you! Mine looks similar and I've colored mine dark too. I had considered doing a red berry color (because at this point why not play with it) but I wonder if it will fade super fast like your red?

Paxton, I feel like I go through stages like that too. Fortunately I'm ok with my new haircut but I always had such long hair that I never realized how tied to my identity it was. So occasionally I get really upset. I did find coloring it helped but I felt immensely better once I had it cut and styled as a pixie. It was a huge confidence booster, when people meet me now they just compliment my haircut - no cancer sympathy eyes. Have you had yours trimmed or shaped yet? Maybe it will help you too until you can get some highlights. Also might help with the curls in the back. It did mine no have coarse waves on the top but the back is too short to kink up on me right now.

LovestoFly, ummmm I'm obsessed with that color. Slay girl! I'm 4 months PFC too and I was suffering what I liked to call helmet head where it looked like it was a shaved head growing back all at the same time. The exact words I used to my hairstylist was that I felt like I looked unkept. She advised me that the easiest way to manage it was shaping if up into a pixie. Basically like you said, cleaning up the back and sides a bit and adding some shape to them but leaving the top alone. If you look on Pinterest you can see charts of "growing out a pixie" which is basically what we are doing now (heyyyy!). What I plan on doing is letting the top grow baby grow and keep the backs and sides clean (but still wispy) until the top catches up to the bottom. Then you have a cute little bob and just grow to the length you want.

Here's the "helmet head". Was really difficult to tuck my hair behind my ears because of the texture/flip thing. image

Here I am when she cut my hair at a week shy of 4 months PFC.

imageimageThis is from this past weekend at 4.5 months PFC

Sheri, I've been using the brand Bumble and Bumble. I think it's the "styling creme" in the white and black bottle. I use it to smooth my sides and back and I kind of finger comb it through the top while its damp and it sets really nicely. Keeps everything from drizzling and still feels soft, not greasy/shiny.

Sorry for blowing up this thread y'all. I'm waiting to go in for my reconstruction and just a little wired...

youngBRCAgal thanks, your hair looks great!

I did go to the hairdresser yesterday and ask her to clean up the back and sides, here's a picture. Ignore the sore on my nose, it is a white water rafting injury!

Jill....your hair looks great. I'm 31/2 months out and although I have hair coming in, I can't even grab it between my fingers. I just hope that I will have hair again some day‼️ Getting so tired of wearing wigs. I'm using Nioxin Shampoo and castor oil. Also praying a lot to the Hair God

Cathy I'm sorry to hear yours is growing so slowly, I remember from the chemo group that yours was slow to grow back. Even though I finished chemo four months ago, mine started growing back when I did tatatore which was 5 1/2 months ago, so it's been a bit longer! i've been using shampoo with collagen by Marc Anthony, but I don't know if it helps or not because I haven't not used it

Oh Frill, so sorry to hear that!!! Looks like you had your FAC second after taxol, is that right? Could this hair shed by the final one from that chemo, as that is the chemo that caused all my hair loss (FEC) but I had it prior to Taxotere. I am praying for you that the growth will start coming now and will continue on!

Jill, love your hair. I cannot wait to colour mine! I bought the loreal root cover up and use it on my whole head for special events! Doesn't take much and makes my hair feel fuller. It washes right out as well. My friends are getting me out of town next weekend so I bought one for then. Hopefully before I return to work next month I will be able to colour mine.

YoungBRCAgal and Jill....love the styling! Another month and I will see what my hairdresser can do! Gives me something to look forward

Almost 7 months PFC and just had my second hair cut last week. She evened up the sides and back and left the top mostly alone. Still on the fence about color. I was always a redhead BBC.

Yes, 5000mcg/day. My final chemo dose was on 7/14. I have a 5:00 shadow on my head. I'd say it's just over 1/16th" long. My eyebrows and lashes are coming back too. It's funny, you think your lashes grow in a line, but they don't. They are kind of like your eyebrows, growing in a grouping along your eyelid.

I'm also taking the biotin for my nails.

LoveMyVizsla...I finished May 18 and can grab some hair with my fingers. My hair is probably growing OK. It's just that I'm very anxious. My eyelashes never fell out and my brows are growing in fine. I use a bit of pencil to even then. If I don't see considerably more hair by the four month mark, I'll start biotin. My RO suggested Rogaine pills.

Hi all! I have been following you all and can't wait until I am done and get some hair back. I've love all of your pictures and can't believe I am looking forward to a pixie cut. I always had long bleached blond hair but I cut it super short when I found out that I needed chemo. I am at the halfway point with Taxotere and I haven't lost all of it yet. I have a five o'clock shadow on my head and my lashes and eyebrows are hanging on. I also continue slowly to grow hair on my legs and underarms. Weird?! I was hoping I wouldn't have to shave for three months! I wish that I invested in cold capping since the wig thing sucks in this Virginia heat. Anyhow, thanks for posting your pictures. They give me hope!

Jill, your hair is so long! It looks great! Love the color. My hair is finally starting to come in pretty good, but it's just SUPER slow. I did go out to the store this weekend with nothing on my head for the first time. Felt pretty liberating actually. My honey says it looks cute and keeps encouraging me to go bare. I think Herceptin may be slowing my growth. Love seeing all of these pictures here!

Frill, hugs to you. I know you've had such a rough time. Think about you often. Stay strong.

YoungBRCAGirl (you really are SO young, I hate that you have to be here), your hair looks cute! We are at about the same place in length, though yours does look a little longer. I did have my hair cut when it was colored (I do not color my own hair, leaving it to the professionals), but if I cut the back short(er) I'm just delaying the inevitable hideous grow-out, especially with no guarantee the chemo curls will go and delaying my highlights further. But on the bright side it is getting more manageable; I can almost use my 1" flatiron on the front and sides. Will post a pic soon.

I do adore seeing everyone's hair pics, and how lovely everyone looks!
