Got my first hair cut in a year today. Just a trim. Felt good. About nine months PFC. It was never this curly pre-chemo. My gut tells me it will become less curly over time.

    thanks!

I just had to share this pic to show the contrast, to give those of you who aren't so far along hope. This was probably three months PFC.

I finished my chemo on February 5th. It is coming in 3 shades darker, but no curls (I really wanted a few "chemo curls"). My lashes fell out twice and are now super thick and long. YES! Unfortunately, my brows never grew in right so I have to be creative with the brow pencil. I have a funky grown out pixie look. How soon is it safe to color it?

Wendiwithani, I went without a wig 2 1/2 months after my last chemo. It gets so hot in Oklahoma! Yes, it does feel amazing especially when you feel a breeze on your scalp for the first time in months. :)

Sheri64, I have been using my husband's American Crew spray gel! The smell is faint and it doesn't flake or look crunchy. My hair stays in place all day. I put it in when my hair is 90% dry, finger style, and go.

octogirl...thanks so much for posting the photos. Now that I see your photo three months pfc, I realize that my hair is growing‼️ I am at the three month mark and actually have more hair than you did in the photo. Yay‼️ Love your curls. I have always had poker straight hair. Hope I get some curls for a while. Again, thanks for posting. Your photos certainly made me feel better, and I'm sure others feel the same.

Lovely Octogirl! My hair still looks straight, I can't figure out if it's going to get curly or not, I hope it does because it was curly before, but my girls were quite loose so I don't think it's long enough to show yet

Thanks for the kind compliments, and I am glad it helped you Cathytoo...the funny thing is, I don't like the curls that much. Objectively, I know they are cute, but they are different, and I think maybe all of us may feel sometimes that we want what we had before back again. At least I do. I did have wavy, thick hair before, but never curls like this. Well, actually, I did: when I was three to five years old. I think of my current hair as 'baby hair' (It is a LOT thinner and finer than it was before, which my hairdresser also commented on). This is why my gut tells me it will eventually revert and that the curls might go away: I just have to get through the baby hair first. I will say, on a positive note, that it was never grey, and it started to come in with touches of grey (see the 4.5 month pic) but as it gets longer, the grey is also going way, or is less noticeable. At sixty two years old, I will take it. Actually, I will take the curls too. Just grateful to have them!

    Hugs to all;

Just popped back in here. I see many familiar names from the July chemo thread. I've now had my second infusion and am totally bald. Glad to see how everyone is growing back. I freaked a bit when I heard of the lawsuits for permanent hair loss with taxotere.

Myra, do you have a template for brows? It looks like real eyebrows with individual hairs.

Dara, no template but the key for me is drawing each hair in rather than the "new" version of outline and fill that's so popular on YouTube. I also make sure to smudge the inside edge between the eyes so it's not a hard boxy look. I found a gray pencil that's a lot softer than black at Ulta

No curls yet but it is filling in! 9 weeks PFC💃💃💃💃🎉🎉🎉🙌🏻

Octogirl, looking good and very encouraging!

Brows and lashes just staring to come back. Now that my eyes have stopped watering I think they have a chance

Hey, if AliciaKeyes can go without make-up...

Amie, I colored my hair the first time about 3 months PFC.  I couldn't wait to have enough hair to color as I refused to go without the wig or a hat as my hair was almost completely grey and I felt it made me look older than I am.  18 months PFC and I feel my hair is back to normal, chemo curls are history.  They weren't bad and I was glad to have any hair but as others said just not normal.  MJS

Octogirl: I am exactly like you. I have curls and I hate them. People tell me how cute they are but to me, I just look awful. I have been paying to have it blown out. I finally was able to style it myself and make it look good Monday but the humidity came along and instantly ruined it. I am having my mullet tail trimmed tomorrow. I had some of the fuzz cut off before but I think she will cut about an inch off tomorrow. At least the summer has been pretty good here in terms of the humidity.

Myra!! That darn watering of the eyes has started for me again after it stopped for a while! I am so done with it!! Yesterday and today needed drops and also took a clariton yesterday. Not sure if I'm getting allergies suddenly or what. Hope it does not last.

    Anyways...this is 14 weeks PFC

Wavy in the back and lots of grey. PFC was 3/30.

Beautiful picture Sheri. It will be fun to see if the curls remain. I had curly hair when I was little, but it's been straight as an adult. I see lots of cute super short intentional hair cuts in mags and TV. It will be great to try a couple of them out eventually.

Karen, looking good Girl! Yep...nose is running. Eyes finally dried up. It's always something in cancerland.

Sheri, wow! It's so nice and thick! You look great!

I just checked my pix from Aug 1 to Sept 1. Lots more hair!Good to remind myself of how much hair I actually have now when I get discouraged it's not filling in fast enough. I almost look like I have a real hairdo.

Sheri, Karen and others with posted pics, - your hair looks terrific!

For those of us without so much progress, some of you mention using castor oil, - but when do you use it? It is impossible to put on and leave in for long, - so how and when do you use some? Thanks!

anotherNYCgirl...I put a little bit in the palm of my hand and rub it in. There is never any residue. I use it almost every day ... sometimes after I shampoo, sometimes before bed...or in the morning. I heard before bed is good. I'm not sure if it's helping, but I'm 2 weeks away from 4 months since last infusion, and I definitely have hair. However, it will besome time before I'll feel comfortable going without my wig. I also use Argan Oil whenever I think of it

My sister in law is a hairdresser. she told me to massage my scalp as often as I can. Have to say, I drive around massaging my scalp and look like a fool, but my hair is really coming in thick. two weeks post final chemo. Rub those heads!!!

ok, - so i slept with a little castor oil on my scalp, but immediately had to wash hair this AM. Although thin, my hair is an inch or two long, - so I cant leave it in.

Some time ago Babs mentioned having PRP scalp treatments, - has anyone else tried this? Sounds promising, but it's expensive.

my scalp has felt weird the last few days. It feels like when you have the chills and your hair stands on end . It is just on one side of my head though . I am ,I think , 14 weeks PFC , on Tamixifen and have some thick , wild short regrowth. Just a odd feeling . Anyone have this????? My hair is growing in with waves , swirls, and is totally unruly

Keepongoing,  My hair grew back curly initially.  I used a curl definer and most times avoid the hair dryer as I didn't have a diffuser.  I think about 8 or 9 months out it started to relax.  18 months out and it is as straight as it was before.  Good luck,  MJS

MJS1266 - Your post made me laugh! I can't wait to get my hair dryer out from uderneath my bathroom sink! Or maybe I can! I used to wash, condition, dry, curl, spray and so on every day! Such a girly girl! It took a lot of time and dedication to get my hair just so. Now that it is only a half inch or so and a color I don't recognize I don't know what to do! I have a feeling once it gets back to a decent length that I will revert back to what I know. Wash, condition, dry, curl and spray! I loved being a girly girl!
