I just finished up Taxol #3 after 4 rounds of DD A/C. I just posted yesterday that I didn't have any regrowth yet. This morning, however, my husband informed me out of the blue that there is hair coming in the back of my head, right where rdeesides' hair is coming in. I've been feeling it, of course, but didn't realize it was new. See, I was the one who shaved most of my scalp and I used a 1/4" blade. And I never lost all of my hair through A/C -- about 10% of my original hair still held on, so my scalp was never shiny and smooth. My husband, however, shaved the back of my head, since I couldn't see it, and he apparently shaved it all the way to the scalp. I guess he should know cause he's been looking at it the last 2 1/2 months! And he's saying that new black hairs are growing in. So Woot on that!

P.S. I have to admit that my head looks quite ridiculous now, because what remained has kept growing. They stick out like porcupine quills through my chemo caps. I should shave them all off, but to be honest, I've grown emotionally attached to those hairs. They stuck with me through thick and thin, after all the other hair on my body jumped ship, and I don't want to betray them by shaving them off. I call them my little survivors. I'm so weird.

CBK, thanks! Good luck with your hair too. My husband teases me about my male pattern baldness!

Rdeesides, your hair is sparse but it’s long! It’ll really look good once it fills in a bit.

Lisa, funny! I think being loyal to your hair is a good thing!! Whatever parts of our bodies that cooperate deserve to be rewarded. My leg hairs are not back at all, but my head is coming along. Works for me.

CanadianGirl, thanks, I hope your hair comes along. It seems like we all respond so differently to the meds that everyone recovers at a different pace. :)

Bare patches & thin patches on top - 23 weeks PFC

Has anybody 'out there' had these types of patches fill in months down the road?

I had my first hair cut today! I'm 10 months PFC. Since I finished Herceptin in October, I believe my hair started growing faster. But the top was still much shorter than the rest. And the sides were starting to look wild since I still have soft curls. The hairstylist cut just the tips off the top and took about an inch off the back and sides, which was a little more than I expected. But I understand why he had to take that much. It looks so much neater now.

    Hi All,

Has anyone tried or heard of a vitamin supplement called "Hairfluence"? It has been suggested to me, and I am looking for some opinions! Thanks!

I have such hair envy!! Mine remains terribly thin, and the top front is thin and whispy and doesnt seem to grow. ugh

I have been taking biotin, but it hasn't helped much, if at all!

Ladies and Gents Hello!!! it's been a while since I posted on this thread. I wanted to share these two pics. Next week will mark 2 years since the end of tx. I finished chemo on Oct 16 2015 and rads on Dec 23 2015.

The overall changes from pre chemo are the increase in the tightness of the curls, but an overall thinning of my hair. My hairdresser who've I have been going to since about 2001 tells me that it's as thick as it ever was but the texture is far finer. I would agree with that. I'm happy to have it, and happy to be symptom free going into my third year post treatment. All the best to all of you this Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza or which ever holiday you may celebrate.

Lovely pic molliefish! Congrats on staying symptom free!

Good for you Bellasmom! A haircut would be great but I’d definitely feel protective about chopping off this hair that I’m so happy to have!

CanadianGirl & anotherNYCGirl, i sure hope things come along for you both.

I’m starting to see some improvement on the top of my head. My eyebrows are back but in a different shade brown than before. I can tell because the pencil that I used when they were thinning doesn’t look good anymore. The back of my head is very grey. About to post my last pic of 201. Lots of family arriving tomorrow for the rest of the year. Cheers to all of you!!

Flynn: So the two pictures were taken less than 2 weeks apart? That's fast growth -- you'll have a full head of hair in no time!

Your bottom pic looks like my head 2 months PFC. And the top pic looks like my head two months after that.

Yes- it was 11 days between pics :) My last treatment was 11/1 so I'm just shy of 2 months. I'm pleased so far! It's been in the 80's here, I'm ready to ditch my headcovers/wigs!

Flynn - your hair is coming along great! RE: me... still not sure if I'll have to wear caps and/or wigs/wiglets for life yet... bald patches on top/crown and thin on front.... it will be what it will be...

To all - Wishing everyone good health, good friends and lots of good times in your Christmas festivities and in 2018 and beyond. And, of course, a restoration of good hair.

First infusion December 7 - and my hair started falling out December 21, with big handfuls coming out yesterday and today. No worries about that. I knew it was coming. I have an appointment to get it shaved this Friday. But... my head HURTS and itches. Anybody have a good remedy for that? It is driving me crazy.

Meowmmy65...once my hubby shaved my head, very short (but not down to the scalp) I used a sticky lint roller several times a day. They say that it releases the short stubby hairs from the follicles. I wasn’t bothered by any pain then. Hope this helps!

Hi Everyone, I wanted to share this resource with you - as I have been obsessed the last few days with finding ways to look as healthy as I am starting feel with different hair/hat options. I especially like the hat/hair options with the winter months in most of the USA right now. I always wanted to rock a cute look with ski hats, now I think I might have found some options.

There is a woman on utube, her channel is 'BlondieLocks' -- she has lupus and has been making hair helper videos for it looks like 2 years - she is adorable and she comes up with ways of making cheaper synthetic wigs usable under hats, etc. Really so many tips and tricks - I found it helpful and thought I would share it. Warning, you might get addicted to her videos, luckily they are short and to the point.

Link below, just not sure it will work -- if not google BlondieLocks Lupus or something and then click back to her channel -- she has lots of videos with so many ideas

Hi everyone. I’m a bit over 3 months post chemo (CT) and just finished rads about 2 weeks ago. I have to admit although I thought I rocked the bald look, I really was nervous about when or if my hair would grow back in. I also took a daily biotin pill and just used baby shampoo because my head itched a lot while the fuzz was coming in and it really helped a lot for me. So far I’m happy with the growth rate but the “straightness” of my hair is definitely hard to get used to. But they say it will probably go back to my normal texture eventually. Here are some before and current shots of me. imageimage

Sydsym, mine is growing slow, I'm 6 weeks post chemo, I only have fuzz. I can feel my hair is growing now but it isn't fast at all.

Paulette, I can honestly say for the first couple months I also didn’t have much more than fuzz and then that lovely grass skirt look at the back. I refused to look at the back of my head for weeks at a time I hated it so much. But it has started to fill in so much lately even my friends are commenting on how good it looks. I’m just outside Philly so right now I wear hats outside most of the time anyway

Sydsym -you have a great look bald and with your new hair... you have more hair now 3 months PFC than do I almost 6 months PFC. You won't have to wait long before you have a full head of hair! Happy New Year all.

I wonder if that is what is happening to me? The Drs didn't mention that my lashes and brows would fall out more than once..... as once was bad enough. I'm loosing them both again and I'm 5 months out from last taxol/chemo. I'm still getting herceptin every 3 weeks and taking tamoxifen

Oh no, InHispalm, you are losing your hair again! That sucks!

meowmmy65- I was super itchy during hair fall-out and about a month after. I found wearing something on my head helped ( wig, soft wrap, bandana ). Now I apply oils and essential oils ( lavender) to help my scalp and it makes my hair feel softer. Hang-in-there

I'm about 3 months since my last round of chemo. My hair has started growing back. However it seem to be much courser than I remember. To be frank, it feels/looks more like pubic hair than normal LOL. My husband says it feels different because I haven't had hair for a while not that it has grown back differently. It's grown just enough to tease me by not being able to do anything with it. It's cold outside and the weather is drying all of my skin including my head. I've tried conditioning it but nothing seem to make a difference. Anyone else having this same issues? Any advice other than just patience and time??? My hair as of today...

InHisPalm: It's pretty common to lose lashes and brows again. It happened to me and it has happened to others. Someone mentioned losing her lashes/brows a few times PFC.

Shenanigans: You have more hair at 3 months PFC than I did. Looks good. I'm sure the texture is different -- this happens to almost everyone. I had straight hair (asian) before chemo. It grew back coarser with soft curls. I get lots of compliments on it. I never wore my hair short, but I'm keeping it short as long as I have the curls. The back and sides grows faster than the top and bangs. Two weeks ago (10 months PFC) I got a hair cut for the first time. I had to get the back and sides trimmed because I was looking too round. It felt strange cutting off precious hair, but it does look better.

I have been following this thread and really appreciate the advice and pictures of hair growth - it has been encouraging. I am 9 weeks PFC and my hair is coming back. I probably have about 2 inches on top but the back is growing much slower. I had my hair buzzed when it started shedding but I was never bald so that is why it is coming in more quickly. Like many of you, the eyebrows and lashes mostly left me after chemo was over. The eyebrows are filling back in but like my hair they are very gray. My eyelashes are also coming in but really short right now. I did what many of you did, I used EES twice per day and once chemo was over, I started using Lashboost by Rodan and Fields on myeyebrows and lashes and started taking Biotin. About a month before chemo I started using Monat hair products and have continued throughout treatment. Who knows if any of that helped but I thought I would share.

I can't wait until I can stop wearing the hats and wig. I wondered how long it was before all of you colored your hair? I may try to embrace the gray but I doubt I will like it. And, I would love to know any styling tips. I have several cowlicks and my hair is just a mess right now, sticking up in weird places. I still have a receding hair line but I can see it is starting to fill in. I could probably do a Mohawk right now but at 53, I can't rock that look.

Paulette, I saw a lot of women online recommend castor oil to promote hair growth and the women who work in the boutique at the Cancer center of the hospital where I received treatment swear by it and they’re all cancer survivors. I just figured what could it hurt. I started when I was bald and only put about a qtr tsp in my hair a couple times a day. I also dabbed it on my eyebrows. Mine thinned during chemo but I had pretty thick brows and never lost them all.

I just wish the facial hair could have stayed away....grrrrrr
