Spar, that is still a wonderful Christmas Tree.
Tomorrow I am going around my yard and going to cut some bows off the hemlock, spruce, arborvitae and rhododendron to make a swag and put a pretty bow on to put on my back door.

Thanks to all of the wonderful ladies who post the beautiful pictures. The mountain is the most enjoyable thread!
Spar-your tree is beautiful! We get a real tree every year and the one requirement I have is that there is space between the branches because I like to see the ornaments hanging. Who wants a perfect tree? I'd rather have one with personality!

OK, here goes. So glad to see you all on the mountain.
We got the car packed and the back seat fixed up for a bed for me with pillows against the door, knitting and books in the floor by my head so I would have something to do on the ride to red river resort in New Mexico. We put a rug over the hump on the french door and pushed me over it, I then slid down the stairs on my butt with the wheelchair waiting at the bottom to get me to the car. I got in on my knees, crawled up and got comfortable. We did pretty good with eating and bathroom stops that had ramps and handicap bathrooms.
We arrived in Red River, found our lodge, it is not handicap equiped. Tom huffed and puffed and finally got me up the 2 stairs to the porch and through the door. The place had 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms but the wheelchair would only fit through one bedroom door and no bathroom doors. I had to roll up to the door, put all my weight on the good foot and twist (like the dance) holding on to the door and drop to the toilet, hoping I didn't miss it.
I sat in the cabin for 2 1/2 days, did not go out to eat with everyone because it was too much trouble getting me in and out of the cabin so they brought me back food to eat. I knitted and read and watched TV. Everyone else had a great time, skiing, snowboarding, riding the lift, which I could see if I opened the door and looked out which I did many times. Got to watch videos of all the fun and lots of pictures were taken. Can't wait to get a copy.
On the 3rd day Tom and I decided the only thing I could do was go snowmobiling. So he got me down the 2 stairs and pushed me in the wheel chair a couple of blocks to the snowmobile place where he had already made reservations. The truck we had to ride in to get to the snowmobiles was high, the driver pulled me from the front and Tom pushed me from the butt, until I finally got in, then they "caught me" as I got out of the truck. So far so good. I thought this will be so much fun, nice smooth trails, go slow and see the scenery. Boy, was I wrong. The guide said for us all to stay about 30 feet from each other and off we went, at first it was ok, then it started getting very bumpy, big dips that you had to speed up to get over and I was bouncing so much it felt like I was sliding off the seat. The guide finally stopped and walked back to us and told us this was the easy part of the trail and we were going to have to speed up and stay up with the others. We were going around curves, down valleys, up hills, big bumps and this is narrow trails snaking up a mountain with complete drop off into pine and cedar trees. We were racing fast up this huge hill and didn't make it to the top and the snowmobile started rolling backwards. Tom got on the brakes and decided I would get off and stand on my good leg and see if he could get up it without my weight on it. When I put my foot down it sunk in 23 inches on snow to solid ice and I fell and rolled, ended up face down next to the mountain wall. The guide came back to see what was happening to us and he had me just lay in the snow and Tom back it way back down the hill and get a running start and just fly past me until he gets to level ground. Then the guide said you will have to crawl up the hill on your hands and knees because I called for someone to come pick you up but everyone has gone home. About that time it started snowing, everytime I crawled a foot I would slide back down 2 feet so he finally said ok this isn't going to work so sit on your butt, use your good leg and hands to push. By this time it was a blizzard, you could hardly see in front of you and I am freezing having been on the ground for a good 15 minutes now. I slide a few inches at a time but snow kept building up between my legs and my bad foot was hurting so bad. I finally got down the hill and he helped me on the back of his snowmobile and said the whole team would have to turn around because on the incident. So he took off and I mean fast. I was hanging on to his back pack for dear life and my knees were gripping hard. I now no what scared stiff means now. When we stopped I was just frozen, he finally said you need to let go so I can get off. We finally got back to our cabin. I had hurt my knee, back, and my broke one had a bruise on the other side and a round red lump on top of my foot. The back of the broke one was bleeding where the ice had cut me through the shoe I had on. It was snowing so hard it felt like ice pellets hitting your face.
I found out God does have a sense of humor. I was so scared and praying please help us make it down the mountain safely. I can just see him shaking his head at me and saying you will make it safely my child but I did not say it would be easy.
Tom got the car packed and ready to go and pushed me out in the wheelchair and took me down the 2 stairs, I told him I am scared this time, he said oh you'll be fine. About that time his foot slipped on the snow and dropped the wheelchair and I hit the ground with my head on the step and my legs in the air. I was stunned for a moment and my daughter kept saying are you all right. I finally realized how ridiculous I looked laying there and started cracking up laughing and couldn't stop. Finally my son in law came out and with both of them they finally got me in the car.
It was a real trip in more ways than one.

There will be pictures to follow when my son in law e-mails me his and my DH gets our developed. The xray is Friday and I am kind of scared I rebroke it and I know they will ask why I have scabs from the heel up the back of my leg when I am suppose to be on total bedrest, but this vacation was planned so far in advance I couldn't back out.
It is so good to see some new names on the mountain, hope everyone stays and all is welcome.

Hello my mountain friends. I have a couple of pictures I took on my digital I will post now but they are not as good as the ones on the disposable camera. One is looking out the door trying to see the lift and skiiers, the others are my daughter, granddaughter, son in law and grandson.

Come sit on the bench with me, bundle up, bring out the hot chocolate and sticky buns.
Everyone have a God blessed day.

Getting xrayed Friday morning, and am pretty nervous. My back is hurting worse than my foot. Sometimes I need someone to sit on me. The guide took a picture of us on the snowmobile which I will get developed Friday at one of the 1 hour places since we have to go to the city and my daughter and grandson took pictures of me when Tom dropped me so I will post them soon. JO your gonna have to help me pick a safer mode of entertainment. LOL I was crying by the time I got to the room but then after I had calmed down I could laugh about it. My son in law is always so calm (must have learned it being fire chief) soon as he came out the door he just very calmly said what happened here and grabbed my back and the back of the wheelchair while my husband just grapped the back of the wheelchair. It felt much better the way my son in law did it. He is good at that stuff

Oh my. Reading your story had me wide-eyed but toward the end I couldn't help but giggle at the visual that popped into my head. All I can imagine is you face down in a patch of snow or sprawled out legs up in the air, laughing your head off at the craziness YOU created by being out at all! Girl, haven't you been snowmobiling before? You didn't know what to expect beforehand and say, 'okay, I got as far as the cabin and that is as far as I'm going'. Get her JO!
I'm looking forward to pictures too but only the funny ones. Silly lady you.

Or, maybe he'll tie your butt down to the bed this time to make you listen.
Don't make me come down there and sit on one end while JO sits on the other!0 -
HOw are you today Spar?
Hugs

OMG- really a NURSE- really? OMG- you amaze me but part of me does not blame you a bit for wanting to have fun- I will bring the bake goods , you bring the hot chocolate and we will meet on the bench. Actually your story reminds me of my 1st attempt at sking- had ice cuts in my chin- glasses 5 feet away- one ski on, one 10 feet down the slope and the nerve of a well-skilled 5 year old that slowed down long enough to ask if I needed help- the little bugger!0

And as the Winter Solstice approaches Spar and Melissa sat on the bench. Quiet at first, just taking in natures beauty. Each one was brought back to a different time, sitting in the past and yet knowing what the future holds. By time I came along, we had to get Spar to stretch her leg on the Bench - keeping it elevated. As many friends approached it started to snow. The flakes were huge and each one told a story. The mountains, they surrounded us and joking around we each took turns listening to our voices echo in the wind.
nnn decided we needed to stay warm and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. She built a campfire, started roasting some chestnuts and warm apple cider cinnamon punch that had a little kick to it. nnn threw in some sandlewood insense and the aroma in the air on this snowy night brought miracles to share with all. In the distance, others looked but were leery about approaching. This moment was special and those looking in knew, they were learning the beauty of life just by watching those around the campfire. And it was good.
