Hi All,
Hoping that everyone had a good day!! DH and I spent the last couple of nights with a big group of friends watching the college basketball tournament at a local bar... OK... HE was watching and I was catching up with lots of people I haven't seen in awhile... It's a big old two day party that they have every year... We (roughly 50 of us) basically take over the place, run a huge tab that everyone who drops in kicks in for and have a great time!!
Today was a bit more layed back mostly because we're not 20 anymore and back to back party nights are a bit exhausting...lol. Went from partying till the wee hours to sitting here yawning in my PJs wondering how early is too early to call it a night!
Got my peas planted in my garden today! Legend has it that planting peas on St Patrick's day is good luck! If so, I will be sure to share my luck with all of you!0 -
lisamarie,
It can be quiet here on the weekends sometimes but, I'm here.... Just wanted to say congrats on 2 days minus the patch!! If I remember right, you are ahead of schedule, so that is great!!
Is the granddaughter the little cutie with the frosting on her nose in your profile pic? So cute!0 -
Seaside - I'm here. We had to attend a St Paddy's Day function with our residents. It was a lot of fun and like usual I ate way too much. Now just chillin'.
Lisamarie - You are so amazing. You are doing this - what a way to go. Keep it up - it really does get easier.

Hi Jo, Seaside and lisamarie, been off the computer all day - it's just so beautiful outside, we've all been in the backyard, can't say I've been gardening, I've been known to kill cactus! Bianna is a little love and you lisamarie, cold turkey, you go girl, you're doing a wonderful job!!!!!!!!!!! Hugs, Karen Seaside, you can officially turn in at 9, we're just not partyer's anymore, one night ok but back to back I no can do.

lisamarie,
That is so great! Keep doing what you're doing because it's working!! You have a definite goal in mind in being smoke free for your surgery..... Each day that you decide 'I will not smoke' brings you one day closer to your goal!0 -
Lol Karen... Nine was what I was shooting for but, I think I've gotten a second wind....
What I didn't mention was that the basketball festivities start at 10:00 AM and continue till the last game is over around 1:00 AM or so on both Thursday and Friday... DH and a bunch of the guys are there for the duration... I don't head down till the evening so am there for much less time... I'm beat but DH is just exhausted.... Our kids come down as do lots if the other people's kids tgat are in the late teens/ early 20's age bracket... They don't drink and are the designated drivers... so it all works!
I just started my garden in 2010. Had planned on starting one the year before but was diagnosed in May of that year so, it took a back seat to treatment that year... The next year I swore come hell or high water I was going to have a garden.... I call it my 'Victory Garden'... I had not a clue what I was doing (and still have tons to learn) but, each year I'm learning more and more both from what was successful but, also from what totally didn't work....
Now that I think about it.... That's kind of how quitting smoking went.... Learned lots from what worked but also learned from what didn't work...0 -
Jo,
You snuck in a post at the same time that I was posting! Glad you had a nice time at the party!! Shouldn't be too much longer before the residents start moving North again... I'm guessing after Easter? Then you can relax a bit! Forgive me if you've mentioned it here already but, do you have your surgery date yet? Would like to mark it on my calendar to be thinking of you on that date!0 -
Seaside - Most of my residents will be gone before Easter. Gotta go home and get those taxes done. Not only do we have our taxes done, but have already spent the money paying for a cruise in Sept.
I don't have a surgery date yet. My surgical clearance stuff is done - labs & EKG. Next thing to get accomplished is my mammo - that is at 8:00 Tues morning. Should have those results in a few days and then will call my PS and get scheduled. I will definitely let you know when I get it.

Oh Jo - a cruise !! If anyone deserves it - you do. Where are you headed?
Keep on truckin to everyone else.

Galsal,
Step by step and day by day turns into 'Wow, I can't believe how far i've come' and it all starts with deciding that I will not smoke for just one day... today! But the todays quickly add up to weeks, months and years!
You also have the surgery that you want waiting for you as your reward.... Keep on keepin' on!!!0 -
thanks! and in return for getting that surgery, I get a makeover. life is GOOD\

Hi Jo, good to see your post, that sounds like a terrific cruise, the ports always look grand on TV. Will you be packing a long gown for the first dinner? I wonder how they will separate the smokers from the non-smokers onboard the ship? hugs, Karen

I took a cruise out of Galveston on Carnival last Thanksgiving. Stops were Key West, Nassau & Freeport - with 3 days at sea (my favorite days). There was a path down the middle of the ship through the casino. One side was smoking, one not. Lots of co-mingled air. One side of the ship (port I think) allowed smoking on the public decks & bars on that side. I think all passengers were allowed to smoke on their own balconies if they had balcony rooms. Smokers were cautioned not to throw butts since they might hit people below. No smoking in the dining rooms. One of the nightclubs was designated as smoking but the rest of the clubs & shows were smoke free. Since I didn't gamble, I wasn't "at risk" too much.

Karen - I don't wear dresses. I do have a couple of really nice outfits - palazzo pants and 2 tops. That covers both formal nights. MinusTwo is exactly right when she described the smoking policy on the ships. I was looking at Carnival's website recently and have noticed they talk about electronic cigarettes and they treat them the same way as regular cigarettes. We usually get a balconey room - not so much for the smoking thing but I like to be able to escape at times away from everyone but still be outside. Those are the times I will sit and read a book - usually on sea days.
I don't know if you are on facebook - but the top picture on my timeline is a picture of DH and I on a cruise.
MinusTwo - We usually go out of Galveston. We have been to Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cozumel so many times, I wanted to try something different. Carnival has a new ship going out of there now - The Magic. In as much asI would love to see the new ship - I want some different ports.

Jo,
That cruise sounds like such a great time! DH and I took a cruise back when we were dating (that our parents did not know about) and we had so little money that I think our room class was one step above having to row the boat...lol! Our room was so tiny but, we had the best time!! The food was great and there was so much to do both onboard and in the ports!!
Was watching the travel channel while I was on the treadmill and Belize is really a hot destination this year... Has to do with the Mayan calendar running out toward the end of this year, which some believe will be the end of the world... So lots of people are traveling to Belize to view the ancient Mayan ruins....
DH and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary this year... Looking at a few possibilities as far as getting away!
This is a very exciting year for you! Surgery soon and a cruise this fall!!!0 -
Seaside. We went to Belize in 2005 - loved it and can't wait to go back. We did visit some of the ancient ruins and they were amazing.
DH and I will be celebrating 39 years in July.
A new boob and cruise in the same year - how did I get so lucky?

To all just starting out... There is a site that is kind of cool to help track your time and savings... They don't require a lot of personal info and will send you an encouraging e-mail each month to help you keep track of your progress....
Here's a portion of the e-mail that I received today.......
"Your Quit Date is: Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:01:00 AM
Time Smoke-Free: 789 days, 18 hours, 2 minutes and 22 seconds
Cigarettes NOT smoked: 15795
Lifetime Saved: 4 months, 15 hours
Money Saved: $7,584.00"
Hope everyone is doing well!0 -
Seaside, you bad girl, sneaking off for a secret cruise
I think if I thought the world was really ending, I'd go to Italy. I've always wanted to see the Sistine Chapel, Napels, Rome, just all of Italy, and I would eat myself into a coma with fresh pasta. I might even find me a hot Italian for a little "Roman holiday." Where would you all go if you could?
0 -
Lol, Bama! Maybe THAT'S why it was so much fun.
Our parents would have been so mad!! Funny though... I am the oldest of my siblings and they loosened up quite a bit after me.... Both of my brothers and my sister lived with their SOs before they were married and I don't recall my parents making a fuss about that!
Where would I go if the world was coming to an end? Hmmm... That's a tough one... Italy is definitely one place I would love to tour.... I have always wanted to take an Alaskan Cruise so that would be up there, too! Or maybe a Mediterranean Cruise... One with ports in Italy, Greece, etc...
Are you sure we can only pick one?! Lol0 -
I must say I thinking that sometimes people that i work with SUCK ... and especially when they can treat u like shit and know that u cant say or do anything about it , that is total mental abuse and it totally sucks ... and I really feel like I wanna SMOKE !!!!!!! UGH I feel so all alone and so mistreated and sooooo pissed off ... sorry everyone .. had to let it out .. Now I gotta say Let Go and Let God ..
Just for today I will not smoke
Hugs ladies to u all

lisamarie, sorry you have to be dealing with sucked up people at work, that was a stressor I am familiar with, it seems to take up so much extra energy to act like that! Just for the rest of the day, you will not smoke, keep on keeping on girl! hugs, Karen
