Beckers,
I did some poking around on the site since it's been awhile... The only thing I can think of is that when you signed up you didn't provide an e-mail address... It looks like you might be able to fix that by going here http://www.quitnet.com/ExpertSystem/Subscriptions/ and using the link to update your profile. If you're worried about giving your main e-mail, you can get a new one through yahoo, etc just for this purpose...
Occasionally they seem to randomly skip a month but most of the time they're pretty good about the emails... EDITED to add: They have been really good about not sending a bunch of junk I don't care about thus far...
Oh... one more thought... Check your spam file. They may be going there.0 -
Ahhh. Good idea. I bet you're right. I'm so curious to know how much I've saved!!

Hello, everyone - apologies if this has already been discussed. Did you all see a recent study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute suggesting a link between smoking and BC? I copied and pasted some of the BCO description, as well as a link to the study here:
http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/6/topic/786615?page=2#idx_51
Hugs to all you quitters and quitted - it is hard but sooooo worth it!

Thank you Athena. Looks like you have a lot of great info on your other thread!!!
Hi Braids. Good to see you!! What antidepressant are you on? I was once told if you don't feel like you belong in your skin it's the wrong one. Somehow that made sense to me :-/ I had tried some that no way were for me!!! Are you better now?? I am on Effexor and it helps with hot flashes being I'm on antihormonals. It's not perfect by any means. It sucks going through all of this! So glad to hear from you and that you smoked just one today. I don't know about the tank ecig. Maybe Day will chime in soon. Hang in there.
Hope you all sleep well. I'm off to bed. Gnite.0 -
Still here and still smoking, although it is less than before. Trying the tank today. We shall see how that goes. Have a great day!
Seaside, thanks for the website! I am one of those who likes to see concrete results so that is right up my alley. Your stats are impressive! Over 21K cigs not smoked and 10K saved! Wowzer..worth quitting for that cash alone! lol

Home from port-a-cath. Holy crap! It's so uncomfortable. Had you all in my pocket though, lol. I was nervous laying on the table but thought of you all and my friends and family to distract myself. The doctor was gentle and before I knew it, it was all over.
Braids, that's great about the one cig.
April, great job!
I've cut down, weening myself. Gonna try to get some rest.
Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi all!!! Just got home from work. It was 96 degrees today and they were trying to kill me at the hospital. Fried my brain with how hot it was in there. May have to buy padded bra and freeze it! Can't feel anything anyhow.
Hope you are feeling better Shawntez. Is it horrible? What kind of chemo are you doing and when? Fun pocket party.
Lisamarie, how are you?? Go find Judi. I miss her.
April, keep on trying. You feeling better?
Hi Lisa and Braids!!
Judi!!!!!!!! Get back here!!!!!!!!
Luv, luv0 -
Glad to hear from you again too, LisaMarie!!
Happy that you're giving this another go... You've quit in the past so you know you can do it... Now take everything that you learned in those 'starter quits' AND add some additional tools to help you to stay quit and you're there! Pulling for you!0 -
Hi All
I was on this thread 2 1/2 years ago when I was dx with my stage 2 breast cancer. I was a 35+ year smoker at the time. I wanted to quit so bad. The day of my dx I swore I would never buy the cigs again and I didn't. For 6-7weeks prior to my dbl mast I would smoke my DH cigs which really brought me down to about 4-5 a day. On 9/20/10 the day of my surgery is my quit day. I have never looked back! I know you all have heard, if I do it so can you. I never thought it was possible and I was blessed that I was able to quit so easily. Please don't give up but if you relapse it's ok! Like a diet you start fresh again. It will happen if its what you really want. I pray for you all that you may find peace and health. God Bless you all. Get VJ's tip book! It was a great read prior to my quit.0 -
Jan!!
Wow, long time since I've heard from you! Glad to hear all is well! Miss all of the ladies from 'the quitting class of 2010'!! We were (are) a great bunch!

You still here helping all the newbies! Good for you. How are you doing? I hope all is well. Coming to topsail this year? If so, let me know and maybe we can meet for lunch. You are about 45-60 min from me. Or come to carolina beach for the day! Let me know

"Class of 2010" I like that! I am from Class of 2012. Class of 2013 is such a great group of gals. They are trying so hard.

Hey - I too bought men's shirts at the thrift shops - except for one Lady Hathaway zip up sweatshirt from WalMart (or Costco?) that has HUGE inside pockets. Those were great for holding the drains.
Seaside - great to see you. I don't have exact stats but I still use the cost of a pack as my justification to buy most anything. Coming up on 6 years this July (notice how I round forward) and told my son tonight I probably don't really want a smoke now - more than once or twice a month !! But as we all agree, I can't so I won't.
Ladies - just for today I will not smoke.

Good morning ladies!
Lisamarie, thank you.
Beckers, I am not sure, but have a an appt with Onc on the 25th. AC chemo once every 3 weeks for 4 sessions, then Taxol and Herceptin once a week for 12 weeks. That is about 7 months of chemo, so that is why I had to get the port. Feel a little better today. I've had minor surgeries in the past and this is the most uncomfortable of them all. A few more days and I should be used to this thing (the port) being in my chest. I really cannot wait to get started with the chemo. The sooner I start, the sooner I finish. Should have breast surgery sometime in January or February.
I hope everyone is doing well or at least a little better today. There are so many of us now, it is hard to keep up. This is a good thing.
Check in later.
Love and hugs.

Morning! Day 3 with the tank and it is not going as well as I had hoped. I am still smoking. Anyhooo, I have the meeting with smoking cessation at Yale on the 25th..maybe that will help me with the evil tobacco!
Shawntez, I know that soon you will get used to the port. My MIL had one put in (she is stage 4 colon cancer) and she took a couple of weeks but now she said she barely knows it is there! It is so much easier for you when you have chemo. Huge hugs and hope that you get used to it soon!
Have a great smoke free day ladies! Off to the shower for work!

Jan,
Yep... Still here but not as often as I was... We'll be heading once again to my most favorite place on earth this summer! We're going with my sister and her family but, if it looks like I'll be able to sneak away, I'll get ahold of you! Not on Facebook but considering crossing over to the 'dark side'... We'll see...lol!
MinusTwo,
Glad to hear from you, too!! Six YEARS is beyond great!! If I remember right from the roll call days I think you had the most years followed by Athena1 and O2bhealthy.... You all rock!!0 -
Seaside: I forgot who was keeping the stats. Guess I should look back & try to PM her.

Morning ladies!
I am going to say this because I need to and it's honest: 1. I am not ready to quit yet, too much stress. However, I smoke one cigar over 24 hours. 2. Had my heart measured yesterday. Was given a small dose of radiation and the devil in me wants to use it as leverage to keep pushy people at bay, those who squeeze their behinds in seats next to me where they don't fit. I'm getting a t-shirt made up. "If your ass don't fit, you should not sit. This by no means refers to larger size people. (Just to clarify: My son is a big boy, 290 pounds, 5'10", and I love it; he's my bodyguard on the train. New York public transit riders are aggressive and inconsiderate; personal space is neither observed or respected.) I'm saying that if the space available is about 10" wide and your ass is larger than that, why sit and shove me over. I am now a size 6, pretty small. WHY!?
So, yes I am still smoking; however, I am using nicotine free ecig cartridges during the day. I believe I start chemo on March 25th, so that is the new quit date. I need time.
I hope you all find today a little easier to get to that place where you start figuring out what it is that is stopping you.
As always, I keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Love, hugs and kisses.

(((Shawntez))) Rough day chica? Sorry honey. It will get better!

Minus,
No need to search back! It was me that had the list...lol. You can do a search on my user name with roll call as the subject and you should be able find it....
Shawntez,
Your T-shirt idea just cracked me up...lol. As for quitting smoking you're going through a very stressful time right now so go easy on yourself. Some can and have quit during treatment but many of us couldn't manage it until after the stress of treatment was over. I smoked all through my treatment. It wasn't until 3 months after that I quit...0 -
Hi Shawntez! Sounds reasonable and I can relate. It took me some time for sure to finally quit. I'm glad I don't have to deal with those rude, big butt, pushy people on a daily basis, as Tamoxifen makes me a bit rowdy. I can't be trusted. Ha!
Hope everyone's hang in in there....Lisa's? Where are you??? Judi....comeeeee back!!!!!
Hi Seaside and Minus Two. You ladies are our inspiration. Can't wait to have years behind me! June will be one year but I need to figure out the date.
Happy weekend!!!0 -
Timing is every thing when it comes to becoming smoke-free and nobody can tell you when that best time is. However, you can do a lot before an actual quit date (or even before deciding to quit)--smokers don't plan to fail but they fail to plan. Which is what my Tips book is all about--how to get your mind in the right place and what kind of behavior modification needs to happen. For free if you send me an email address or http://stopsmokingstayquit.blogspot.com/

VJ, I am finally getting a bit of a chance to read your book and so far, I find it VERY informative and helpful without being preachy! I like it and I thank you for sending it to me.
If you are on the fence, I suggest you ask VJ to send it to you and draw your own conclusions. She is kind enough to offer this free and I would take advantage of the offer.
Thanks VJ!
