Candie--stick with it, you are doing great!

Mbscruggs--I got terrible aches too, along with headaches that were unbearable.  I didn't lose my voice, but my gums were SO soar it hurt to talk, eat or drink.  I wish you the best of luck.  I hope the doc can help you, but if not, join us in the COLD TURKEY department.  You are tough, you can do it.

    Hugs to all!

Whoo I am finally doing housework...Not much fun. The cats are very happy now that they have a clean litter box. I have a lot of de-cat hair to do now. With 5 furballs it never ends. I am pretty sure I will need to cut down before quitting so I will be waiting til next weekend to join you all. How many smokes is everyone who is quitting smoking right now? I am still at more than a pack.

Cleo - doing pretty good, thanks for asking.  I just wish I could drive or get out of the house but that would involve taking a shower, washing my hair, having someone help me with my hair...too much hassle...so I guess I will just sit here, eat the bowl of cherry's my mom just brought, sip on a glass of wine and watch the 'twilight zone' marathon on scifi Laughing How are you doing?

Have a TERRIFIC 4th of July!!

    Hi everyone-

o2b- you sound wonderful so soon after surgery! I am thrilled for you. I developed a horrible infection after my mastectomy so along with the very slow exit of anesthesia and pain killers, I was NOWHERE near as good as you.

I did have a few drags of a cig today but I am not using that against me. No change in attitude about this "quest" ..just gotta accept that's what I needed and keep going. Nothing has changed here, I am still ushering cigarettes out of my life. Did I say how hard it is.....friggin A..how nice it will be to gain total control over this addiction.

Did I say you guys are the BEST? I so wish we could all hang out in person. I love you all!

Cleomoon, in answer to your question about cutting down, I have to admit, I am not cutting back at all.  That just doesn't work for me.  I will just quit, cold turkey when I run out of smokes (I should run out either Saturday night or Sunday morning).  I am an all or nothing type of person, so I either smoke, or I don't.

Ellen--keep up the good work.  A couple puffs is no big deal...stay on your "quest".

Jules, guess what?  My dh has decided to go cold turkey with me....YEAH!  In the past, I would quit cold turkey and he would not smoke around me but still smoke at work.  Well, I could always smell it on him and then I would see him walk over to the neighbors to sneak one and it would drive me nuts.  Not this time, he even got all the guys who smoke that work for him to try to quit too.

So this weekend.....I will eat, drink, smoke and be happy because I know Mrs. Crabbypants will emerge quickly once I quit.  Have a good day ladies!

Hey there O2B!!!!!!  Glad to see ya on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Sorry you are bored tho.  You know, I know it sounds odd coming from a 24 year old, but knitting is actually something I enjoy, and is kinda fun, something you can do while just sitting and enjoying your favorite show, but it takes a little bit of concentration, so it makes time go by.

REKoz, no worries about the few puffs, like FlFish said.  Move forward, you CAN do this!

Cleo, I have to cut back.  Always have for all my addictions that I have quit. One way I have cut back is by changing my smoking habits.  For example, I don't go have one as soon as I am done eating, or as soon as I get out of the shower in the morning (it was always a way for me to let me hair air dry a little bit).  And for example, today after work is my last day that I am allowing myself to smoke in my car.  Just being honest here, now smoking after sex...no cutting back at all, so Im not sure what to do there.  BUT to answer your question, I smoke about 4-5 cigs a day now, compared to at my peak smoking almost 2 packs a day about a year and a half ago (I've been trying to quit for a while, and I did back in the beginning of May for a few weeks)

FLFish, that's AWESOME about your husband!  That will DEFINATELY be beneficial to your success!

Janz...sorry you're bored...too bad twister can't be turned into a one person game huh???? what a work out that would be?!? ;)  Hang in there!

    Much Love To All!!!!!!

That's wonderful your husband is quitting with you Ellie.

Wow Butterfly I would love to only smoke 5 a day. I think that is amazing.

Michelle even thinking about housework at this point says you are recovering quite well. I would milk it for all it's worth. Ah yes it feels so good when someone else scoops the litter box.

Here's to another smoke free day Ellen...Smile

o2behealthy:  Been following this for a while.  Thanks for the push.

I have a tentative quit date for July 17th...may have to wait until I see the doc on the 22nd for safe measures.  Going to be using the nicotine gum to help.  Using a program called Project Filter.  I actually quit years ago and out of a old habit bought smokes and had a head rush bad and from there on back to smoking.  I should be pretty well experienced in the quit smoking efforts but once again have decided enough is enough.  Coming from a long line of cancers and now BC added to the list I would prefer not to go down the chemo road again and more so for lung cancer.

Welcome Nadine!  I used the gum for the first 5 weeks then weaned myself to Doublement Gum...I too am no stranger to quit smoking efforts - I quit when pregnant with both children and for about a yr after their birth, but have always fallen back on my 'comfort friend'..it's so nice to know that I can come here for encouragement, support and friendship.

I didn't start smoking until I was 40.  I had a friend years ago that told me to put a loose fitting rubber band on my wrist and every time I wanted to have a smoke I was to snap the rubber band,  It did help.  I would take breaks with my smoker friends and while they smoked I chewed gum and sucked on sugar free candy.  The only person I have/had a problem being around is my DH because he is a smoker.  I told him last night that I was going to be quitting. My hope is he will quit at the same time, however I won't tell him that.  I told him last night that I need total support this time so I can quit for good.  Its going to be a battle for me but I sure hope to quit for good this time.

    Happy 4th of July,friends.

a Mounds bar and ice cream are my replacements for cigarettes. I have 1 a day but now I am gaining weight, so starting Monday I am gonna stop the Mounds...lol.

I have acid reflux and a hiatle hernia. I just noticed yesterday that I haven't had the reflux as much. Must be the non smoking. So that's 2 things so far...no more SOB when I climb stairs, also.

will post more ,,,gotta go to a BBQ. Have a safe day...I will be happy when the rest of you join those of us who have quit. It isnt easy but we are here for one another.

Hi everyone. Came on to look at a few topics. Was diagnosed a week ago Friday. Had an MRI on Wed and now the waiting...

I too have decided it would be more than STUPID of me to continue to smoke but I have also decided to wait until I start with surgery, treatment etc. Something/someone has to hold my hand. My good friend Marlboro lights can..for now at least,.

After looking at just a few of the topics on here I can see that this is the place where I'll be discussing my cancer. I'm still in a weird place now. Not talking about "my breast cancer" to anyone in person yet, just over the phone. My poor parentsFrownwant to see me but I don't want to lose it yet. Not without a full prognosis, more facts etc.

So...I'll be back. I'll need all y'all's help. (ps I'm a yankee but I live in Fl and have heard this phrase often..Still have my humor... for now.)

Oh and when I quit I am going to be HUGE. I'm already eating as if it's my last meal..in the past week.

     Thanks

YAY!!  Today is the day so many of you will be joining me in this ridiculously difficult task!!  And since I know none of us will be playing games with honesty...I'll start. I have not been successful in weaning myself off of drags if I am around a smoker. So if we are to get into semantics here, you can call me Ellen Obama! Like our President, I can't say I have completely quit. But I AM real confident that I am well on my way! Surely to go from 1 1/2 packs to an occassional drag is progress!  And I am getting accustomed to being cig free in many of the situations where smoking was automatic. Like the car, first thing in the am, on the phone etc. I've given myself this time to work on freeing myself of the smoking behaviors and I get through many a jonesing times as well.

So, I haven't been successful in total cold turkey but I will be successful in short order. I just know I will..within the next week I will get myself there. Just knowing that is what is different then trying to quit in the past when once I picked up a cig, I knew inside that I wouldn't stop.

So yeah, I am weaker then I thought as far as this cold turkey thing but not as far as being able to do this!

So, who all beside Ellie and Janzin are joining me as of today?

    Hi Ladies!

I really must say STOP THE INSANITY !!!!!!!!!!!!  I am home.  Thanks for all of the good wishes and prayers.  Can only sit for a minute because my lung still hurts pretty bad.  Susan is sprouting some hair and just wanted to tell you about it.  Pat brought us through an ordeal I didn't think we were going to come out of.  Later, Nancy will go into grafic detail as to what they did to my lung in hopes of "what could happen" might deter anyone from ever starting to smoke and to let the ones who do smoke know it's not too late to start being good to our bodies if we want them to be good to us.  I do not even desire another cig and I want all of us to be at that point.  No matter how we do it, we will get there.  As you can see, I still refer to myself as a smoker but just one who doesn't smoke.  Many thanks to my dear friend Janzin who kept my spirits up and kept me up to date. There were times she called that I know I was completely out of my head, but that didn't stop her. lol.  She must be used to me by now.  Janzin I just want to thank you for the love in each of those calls.  You don't know how much you helped me. Thanks also to another dear friend, flfish, who kept the faith.  I did make it out of the hospital!   (This is my Butt Fondler Awards Acceptance Speech)  Thanks also to REKoz, malleme, mbscruggs, Lursa, and anyone I may have missed who knows me and hung with me.  Welcome to all the newcomers.  You're a lively bunch.  Will try to get to know you as I can.  We all have a common goal and here's to all of us reaching it!

    Love to all,

    Nancy, Pat, Susan

Hi Ladies, wow this is so hard!!! My morning routine has been broken and at times the urges will hit hard and I can hear voices in my head that say go for it, just one puff. I threw my packs on my neighbor balcony but the last one  I missed and it's on the ground talking to me! Deep breaths!!!

FIfish, work it! Chantix made my last night of smoking taste like crap, I have almost 2 packs left. Going for a hike soon as that should make me not want one for awhile. Let me know when you start!!

REKoz, cold turkey is hard. But you are going to do it and you are doing great as you lower your nicotine intake. Let's keep posting!!!

Pantufas, so glad you are back!!!! And a nonsmoker now, that is so awesome. I love that saying, "Stop the insanity" will put it on our website. We have missed you and your wit. Glad you are feeling better and can't wait till you free of the tubes! You can be our positive voice!

    Jules, you still quitting?

O2bhealthy, will catch ya on face book! Maybe fling a cake at you.

Rest of you, drop in a line and let us know how you are doing!
