"ChiSandy, I agree with your HK's decision to attend the family celebration and her decision to not be guilt tripped into not attending. She has been there through thick and thin and his decision to stop all interventions shortly before this event could be his last attempt at controlling her. What is sad is that she has been placed in this position in the first place. I hope she has a great time with her family in a time of happiness."

MM said it best. So deeply sad for your HK Sandy. In sickness and health is fine, but not when it becomes abusive. By all means — I hope she enjoys her time away thoroughly and not have near as much to do when she returns.

Big hooray for your granddaughter Betrayal. Learning how to do well in lots of different conditions is good practice for later life.

Your iris's sound so very pretty. I love the 'old' fashioned iris's best. I had a purple one in our yard at home as a young person. Found it in a field not far from our house and dug it up and home it came with me. Our neighbor has yellow and pink ones, and they are in her yard by the side of the road. Always a joy to look at then we go past this time of year. If Dh was kinder (a whole lot more careful) with planting I would ask if my friend would let me take one of each, but Dh just isn't interested in yard aesthetics.

Going to have a couple extra days of puppy duties. Jo had her nemesis (really bad hives) break out where she is visiting and has had to be in the hospital there in Nevada. So, that is okay. I don't mind, but sure feel bad for Jo. She has done everything — been to several Dr's and specialists and no one is able to really pin-point the trigger for these hives. It is a real trial to Jo and each time she goes through a bout I keep hoping that she will either build an immunity from within her own system, or at least discover the actual trigger if that is possible.

I hope you all have a fantastic Monday. Thinking of you Mary. Puffin, I hope you are well. Carole are you on the way to MN now as I can't recall if yesterday was your day to start out or not.

Cindy sorry you’ve come down with a cold on your return from FL. Hope you feel better soon.

Glad HK decided to go visit family Sandy. It’ll be a good break for her. But very sad for the family.

So glad your GD did well in the soccer game and that you were there to watch. Brunch at the cricket club sounds delightful. Your garden sounds lovely. Your hard work is paying off.

Sorry to hear Jo is in the hospital with hives Illinois. I hope they’re able to find out the cause and that she comes home soon.

Beautiful weather here today, sunny and warm. We still have some haze from the fires in Canada. Did some cleaning and took a walk before it gets too warm. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Milk intolerance??? I have been having issues with nausea and bloating. My sister sent an email to me and my siblings about a brand of yogurt that is lactose free. I read it, but since I was never diagnosed with lactose or milk intolerance, I saved the email but ignored most of the content.

I don't know if my issues are related to lactose intolerance or something else but I didn't have any milk or cheese yesterday and I feel quite a bit better today. I am going to call my sister later to find out how she discovered her allergy to lactose.

Looks to be another beautiful day here. DD and Gks came over on Sunday afternoon. Their washer broke on the last load, so I told her to bring it over and I would do that load and I deliver it to her. So fun folding little clothes again! The GK's were wound up but always fun to have around!

Tomorrow I have my Dexa Scan in the A.M. and my GS's orchestra concert tomorrow evening. He is 9 and plays the cello. I am looking forward to it, the first of many.

I had coffee yesterday with my sister. Her son is having surgery next week, and she is going to stay at his house for the week to watch her grandkids. They live in another state, but only about 2-3 hours away from here.

Today I want to move the secretary desk from the office, to my bedroom. It was my parent's desk so it is sentimental and useful. DH and I will also go to get propane for our two extra tanks for the grill.

The man who cares for our lawn is here now. He lives on the other side of the neighborhood and lawn care is his business. He does such a great job! He edges the yard better than I ever did! I used to mow the yard before my shoulders were replaced. My DH mowed up until about 3-4 years ago. Lawn care is worth every cent! DH still enjoys gardening which I am grateful for.

    Have a great day everyone!

MM, You can be lactose sensitive as well as intolerant. DD just can't have dairy. I can have a little bit. One latte is fine, two and I'm uncomfortable. I figured it out when I couldn't see how tuna sandwiches I ate at home were ok but I would feel terrible if I bought one for lunch. Finally realized that I bought milk along with the sandwich but didn't drink it at home. DD has to read labels. Often when something is 'high protein' it has added whey - which she can't have.

Tippy woke me up at 2:00 AM demanding to be petted and scratched. Once I decided that the night was done, I got up, woke up, and gave him a benadryl. I have been grooming him, and he seems happier. I just got back, and before that, we took a nap.

Made chili yesterday. Still have to rearrange the freezer for it.

My brother bought me a beautiful collector's item, sent it as a surprise in the mail. A book at GoodWill for $2, like new, listed at Amazon for $75. A coffee table book, on the Virgin Mary in art across cultures and through the centuries.

Thanks for the information wren!!! Funny that you mentioned the tuna sandwich, I had tuna on lettuce for lunch. No issues! I guess maybe I do need to stay away from milk! I almost bought protein powder at the store last week, which as you said, is made up of whey. Glad I didn't.

Mary, I made chili before my surgery too. I thought people would wonder why, due to the spices, but while I do use a lot of chili powder, mine is not "spicy hot." I love chili! Glad Tippy is seeming happier! Also wonderful and very thoughtful of your brother to send you that coffee table book! I bet it is so calming to look at!

I am feeling full of regret today. I really need to just keep my opinions to myself. I had complained to the patient advocate at the hospital about a survivorship plan that was sent to me unexpectedly weeks ago. Three people from the hospital called me about that and I thought I was ok.

Then last week when a neighbor's mail was delivered to my house by mistake, which happens weekly, I realized that letter could have gone to a neighbor. Since I worked for the schools for 33 years, goodness knows what a former student might have done on the internet with my personal information if that survivorship plan went to their house by accident! Since I had no idea I was getting that letter, how would I know I didn't receive it?

Anyway, I stupidly wrote another email to the patient advocate about that issue and she just called me and wasn't very nice. She was clearly annoyed with me. Now my charts are probably labeled "difficult patient" or "Beware of what you say to her?" I don't know if they do that, but I remember Sandy said her HK's DH's doctors had listed him as being a difficult patient.

I REALLY wish I never wrote to the patient advocate, EVER! I wasn't mean or abusive in my emails. I hate that when I email them, I can't go back and see what I wrote. It is an online form on the hospital website. Anyway, I will NEVER do that again. I really want to cancel all my up coming appointments, but I will go and keep all my thoughts to myself. Doubtful I will schedule any further appointments with them.

The only two doctors I feel confident talking with are my cardiologist and my MO both of whom stick to the reason for the visit, ask appropriate questions and are very professional. Thankfully neither one uses MyChart as they are affiliated with different hospitals.

There is only one thing about which I shall have no regrets when my life ends. I have savored to the full all the small, daily joys. The bright sunshine on the breakfast table; the smell of the air at dusk; the sound of the clock ticking; the light rains that start gently after midnight; the hour when the family come home; Sunday-evening tea before the fire! I have never missed one moment of beauty, not even taken it for granted. Spring, summer, autumn, or winter. I wish I had failed as little in other ways.    -Agnes Sligh Turnbull

MM: IMHO it seems you are letting this survivorship mistake consume you and it is really taking a toll on your current thinking and health. I can't tell you to let it go because I, too, can get hung up on issues at times but have realized they can be self-destructive. I ask myself if this will be important in 3 months, 6 months or a year and if the answer is no, then I let it go, sometimes reluctantly, but I do let it go. Leo Buscaglia said " Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy."

I would never open mail addressed to someone else and we do on occasion get mail which belongs to someone else. So we either deliver it to them or leave it in the mailbox with the flag raised so the postman will take it. If writing an email or letter lessens your anxiety, write but then you don't have to send. Let it sit for a while and then decide much later if you need to take action.

Tawny has been missing Smudge and I miss her dearly. I have been scouring the local shelters for another calico and finally found a few. I went to see the one today and also earmarked another cat at the same place. I called to make sure they were still available and when I got there the volunteer brought out my second choice first. Her name is Whispers and she was so friendly. I tried with the calico but could not get her to engage and I am not sure if it was because she had recently been spayed or just lack of chemistry. I am a firm believer that even though we think we are choosing the cat, the reality is that they are choosing us. So Whispers chose me and came home with me. She is a just over a year old, just 4.8 lb and described as a gray tabby but she has ear tufts, toe tufts and spikes of long hair all over her body so not a true DSH for sure. Not sure what the mix is but she is lovely. Put a collar on her which she did not mind and she is now residing in the powder room while we work out the logistics of introducing her to Tawny and Regan. Sadly, no back history other than she was from Naples, Fl to our local SPCA. She was spayed and chipped but not sure if it was done in FL but know it was not here. I'll see if I can attach a photo.

Cindy, sorry to hear you have a cold and hope it is mild.

Carole, hope your trip to your summer digs is uneventful.

Mary, sorry Tippy decided that the middle of the night was the time to rise. I feel for them when they have itches, etc that we can't fix.

Hope everyone has a good day. It is sunny and in the 70's so a great day. Plans I had for today went kerplooey so I will just have to reassess and do later.

Coming in again late today. Hmm, I think it is 'easy' to have some or even a lot of lactose intolerance. You can get milk especially processed for people who are intolerant. We used it for a long time — and I don't know why we quit, but we do and have now used Silk Soy Almond milk for at least as long as the Lactaid. My kids look on Almond milk as really fake milk and buy real ( full of fat too) milk for their cereals. Sigh !!!

MM, I hope you are really wrong about that chart issue. I really think often things like that may end up in someone's 'chart' because it helps people who are un-aware that a patient doesn't do what is expected (in fact possibly the total opposite) so that they know a bad result could ensue and not to automatically assume they themselves have done something wrong.

You had a right to feel concern and to act on that concern. You thought it was over and done with and likely so did that lady you emailed again. She may have been having some other problems and having to spend time on an older one made her irritated. I do think just moving on and doing the best you can from this point forward should be enough to get on a better track and stay there.

Going in a bit to see the puppies. I've no idea yet when Dr. B and Jo will be back.

I have the appt. with the Cardiologist tomorrow and we will see if he puts me on Entresto or not. That was his plan last time he saw me.

Chili sounds so good to me. I like it spicy and not hot, but my Dh barely likes any chili powder in the chili. His chili is more like plain hamburger soup. Ick. I keep the chili powder by my bowl, but I prefer to cook the spices in a bit rather than add them later.

Mavericksmom - there’s testing that a GI can perform (hydrogen breath test). Or keeping a food diary to see what foods cause symptoms helps too.

Hope you and Tippy get a better nights sleep tonight Mary. Sounds like you’ve got a full freezer of foods ready for when you have your surgery.

Love the cat Betrayal. I hope she adjusts well with the other animals.

Good luck at the cardiologist tomorrow Illinois. I hope all goes well with the appointment.

Had a wonderful sound bath earlier this morning, then DH and I enjoyed a walk around the neighborhood. We’ve had beautiful weather this week. Nice and sunny. DD sent us a video of GD clapping. I know it’s a little thing, but it’s so cute seeing her big smile and her clapping. We’re going to babysit on Saturday while DD and SIL go out for brunch. can’t wait to see them.

Hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful evening.

Betrayal, I think I was still writing when you put in your entry. I was amazed to see Whispers. Seems a bit thin, but likely if she is like most shelter cats that get a home, once she is secure, she will fill out in all the right places. You are right — felines do the choosing and just let us think we made the choice.

The little black kitten my daughter rescued the week before I came home from the hosp. from the heart surgery never much made up to her at all. About a week after I was home Charli B would get up in my lap and stay for long periods of time. I think he decided to help me heal.

@MM - the provider/patient relationship is not equal. I’ve found I can complain or ask a question once but beyond that there will be no response from the provider. It frustrates and baffles me. I’ve spent my entire career in the tech industry. Not responding to a customer is unacceptable and can result in poor performance reviews up to and including termination. It can take months to work through design issues and build a relationship with a customer. Customers may call several times per day if they need assistance or information. I have hundreds of customers that expect answers. So it’s difficult for me to understand the approach from the medical community.

I love chili but tend to think of it as a fall or winter meal. It’s definitely on the meal rotation in my house for at least half of the year

Hope everyone’s pets are doing well and letting you get some sleep tonight

We both slept well. He is on benadryl at bedtime for now on. I hate to yell "off" at him when he wakes me up with his scratching. He is much happier, and I went through his box of stuff looking for things to donate. I now have a toothbrush for grooming his face. Forgot that I put all my old ones in there.

I have returned to milk products and added prunes and a probiotic to my diet. I thought it was casein digestive problems, but I missed cheese intensely.

I still have to make potato soup, but I have to go to the store and get some lunchmeat for the containers. I use all the same so that they stack nicely. The plastic-wrapped lunchmeat will go into a larger container to be frozen.

Whisper has the most beautiful eyes. I would re-name her Goldeneyes. Whispers is also a pun on Wisps of fur.

We have arrived at the summer home. Yay, no evidence of mice over the winter! We do have mosquitoes, though. Yesterday afternoon we had our first Happy Hour of the summer over on Mary's deck and caught up on news.

When I logged in today, there were 30 posts to read.

On my list of things to do is membership at the nearby golf course, membership at Any Time Fitness, the first Big Trip to Walmart for groceries. There are still bags of pantry stuff to be put away and more settling in. And flowers to be bought and planted in pots for the deck.

It rained most of the night. The patter of rain on the roof of the camper was peaceful and we both slept well.

I'm thankful for the safe trip north.

    Wishing everyone a good Wednesday.

Glad you made it safely to your summer place Carole. Sounds like you have lots to do to get settled.

For mosquitoes my DH uses the following https://www.budget101.com/do-it-yourself/5821-no-more-mosquitoes-complete-pet-safe-yard-treatment/

1 Big Bottle of Cheap (blue) Mouthwash, 1.5L store brand is fine
    3 cups of Epsom Salts
3 Stale 12 oz beers (any kind, but Pabst, Miller, and Budweiser seem to work fine)

Combine the 3 ingredients in a spray bottle, until the salts completely dissolve. Once the salt is dissolved, spray the treatment liberally around the patio, deck, swimming pool or any other areas you sit outside.

Don’t be concerned about the mixture getting on you, it’s natural and safe. This works like a charm and lasts about 2 months before needing to be re-treated.

And your yard smells minty fresh. 😉

Cleaned cat nose prints off the windows this morning. Then took a walk outside. Really enjoying this beautiful weather. Heading to Costco after lunch. I always drop off my hearing aids off to get cleaned while we shop. One less thing I have to deal with at home.

Hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful day.

Saw ortho surgeon today and he recommended I continue Orthovisc injections for relief. He said he would consider surgery if I was getting less than 3 months of relief. The last one in my left knee only (has always been just this knee) lasted about 9 months. I have gotten as long as 16 months and hope getting both done in June will buy me lots of time. Never had a surgeon who recommended postponing surgery but am glad I saw him. He was very personable and handsome to boot. Tomorrow is appointment for dexascan which will most likely show more bone loss but not to the point where they need to take action.

Whiskers is settling in and loves the garden window in the powder room. I took all plants and shelf decorations out of the room as a precautionary measure and she has used the shelves as a means to travel from the window to the sink. She likes laying in the sink.

DD and DSIL stopped by last night to see her. DD trimmed her very long nails. Have let her peek at Regan and she doesn't register fear of her. Introducing Tawny will be the next hurdle. I left the towel I had in the carrier out so both Regan and Tawny could do a sniff test.

I will include a better picture of her. She is truly a flyweight with a small frame but has these huge feet she will need to grow in to. She is eating well. She is on meds for an upper respiratory tract infection that was introduced by one cat and then spread through the shelter. She was sneezing and snuffling yesterday so I was insistent she be treated if I were to take her. They agreed so I can postpone her vet check until she finishes the meds. I want to make sure it works. She is vocal and has this cute somersault posture to get attention.

Mary, glad you got Tippy a way to let both of you sleep.

Carole, glad you reached your summer abode and enjoy your stay.

cardplayer, it will be so much fun to babysit this weekend. Grandbabies are so special. I have to clean dog nose prints off the patio doors and cat footprints off the glass topped coffee table. I think she waits until I have cleaned them off to then redecorate. So now it's not my children's fingerprints, it's the critters who make the mess.

Illinoislady, did you ever find the cat who disappeared? You did mention that you were going to see if a found one was yours and I think I missed the outcome. Funny how Charli B decided he was your cat and not your DD's. I do think they decide who their servant (owner) will be.

Whispers is adorable, Betrayal. She definitely has a lot of growing yet to do. She appears to be more of a silver than a gray tabby. Too small to be a Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat mix (two breeds known for ear tufts—though theirs tend to be at the tips). My guess is that she's still a DSH, but those ear tufts might be a sort of antennae—does she seem to have especially acute hearing?

Knock wood, but no news on the HK's DH front. Meanwhile, Heidi is getting more and more demandingly affectionate—whenever not eating, sleeping or excreting she prefers to get on to me and knead and face-rub. Unfortunately, due to nighttime stress-cheat-eating I have plenty of squishy places for her to blissfully knead. The other day, though, she wanted to play "run and chase the toy" till I got exhausted (and my knees & back sore from bending down to fetch it so I could throw it again). As for hunting, I found a dead honeybee on my kitchen floor the other day. Not sure how it got in, but I'd bet that if it had been somewhat ill (pesticides?) Heidi finished it off. It was definitely not a yellowjacket but a honeybee—which I find very sad as their numbers are dwindling around here (and all over).

Sad to hear of Tina Turner's passing—she was so vital and energetic in public that we all thought she'd live a lot longer than 83. She died "after a long illness;" when not touring (which she stopped doing a few years ago) she was quite reclusive at her home in Switzerland, emerging only to appear a couple of years ago during curtain call at the London opening night of the biographical musical about her (she looked somewhat frail in news footage of that) .

In our whole life melody the music is broken off here and there by rests, and we foolishly think we have come to the end of time. God sends a time of forced leisure, a time of sickness or disappointed plans, and makes a sudden pause in the hymns of our lives, and we lament that our voices must be silent and our part missing in the music which ever goes up to the ear of our Creator. Not without design does God write the music of our lives. Be it ours to learn the time and not be dismayed at the rests. If we look up, God will beat the time for us.     -John Ruskin

Whispers is just beautiful and seems at this point she will have a personality to match. I sure hope she and Tawny and Regan can make a happy time of it together. As far as silver or gray, likely the shelter didn't want to be so defining. She certainly has well defined stripes. I think once she gets acclimated to her household, she is going to just blossom — which by the way is not a bad name. I do really like Whispers though. Right now she does seem rather Will O The Wisp and I would likely let her keep her name which seems to really fit her.

Not sure why but I have a couple of cats that adore laying in the basin in the bathroom. Most of my cats are the size only one will fit and it is not necessarily a room that has overt activities, so I do think some just like to do 'Greta Garbo' for a while.

Carole, I'm glad to hear you are now at home in MN. Always lots to do on arrival but you have done it so much now that you will be set in no time. Bonus of that rain on the roof — one of the nice gifts not expected.

Mary, count me in as being happy to hear you and Tippy as well are getting some proper sleep. It is a real bummer when you don't and have to apply a bit of force to taking care of things.

Card, I will be trying that spray. We so love being out on our deck but it has continued to be something of a hassle as we would like to be out later but have to come in when the mosquitoes. We don't have a lot of lake directly behind us, but we are still quite close and the lake is far too big for the city to do big mosquito abatement. They tend to save that for Balloon Fest in the park anyway.

I felt bad too about Tina Turner. Thanks for the entry Sandy. I had just read it on my news feed but not much detail. She seemed like she had energy for four people — so it did seem to me as well that she would be around a lot longer than 83. May she rest in peace.

Footnote here — we never did find Gordy. He was beautiful. Med length orange hair all over with good sized ear tufts and huge feet. We were thinking he may have had Maine Coon somewhere in him. He weighed about 15 or 16 pounds so was not a small cat by any means. He was Mr. Gentle Ben as well. We still miss him, but we tend to miss anyone who has been with us.

Early this morning I awoke to the sounds of an owl hooting. Always makes me think of the one last yr. (baby ) that the parents were teaching to fly. He kept coming back to our house for about three weeks or so til' he was warned away. I do choose to think he comes back to our woods though to hunt.

My appt. today went fine. I have to have an Echo done in a couple of months and then we will decide if I can ditch the Losartan and go to Entresto. I think I'm going to have lot of exercising in my future.

Hope you all have a wonderful day. Enjoyed all the posts a lot.

Saw Tina live when she had a concert in Philadelphia (still have my shirt) and it was spectacular. I always envied her gorgeous long legs! I have been a fan since she was still with Ike and happened upon her Tina musical when we were in London. We were able to get tickets easily and the show was her life story and songs. We really enjoyed it. Sorry to hear about her death but glad her suffering is over.

Yes, Whispers is too small to be Maine coon or Norwegian but you can't really see how long the tufts are in the photo because they are white. She also has "hobbit" like feet with the tufts between her toes and sole pads which made cutting her nails a real challenge for my daughter. She is more silver than gray. I have been combing her because she has "bed hair" and she loves it. Plus it looks like it will tangle without brushing. Her whiskers are also very long and slant downwards. Usually they are the width of their body but given how small she is they are about 2 times the width of her body. Having a debate about keeping her name because even one of the volunteers wrote her name as Whiskers instead of Whispers. She had to redo the paper work. To me, she looks like a "Misty". She'll let us know what she wants to be called and we know this was not her name when she entered the shelter as "Unknown".

  • chisandy
    chisandy Member Posts: 11,408

I like "Misty." It suits her coloring and those delicate ear "furnishings" (the accurate name for those tufts that emanate from inside the pinnae rather than from the points of the ears). Besides, it sounds more feminine for such a lovely little lady. (I can't imagine how Heidi could have had any other name). I did notice how long those whiskers are—"vibrissae" are very sensitive (part of the tactile system) so I wouldn't be surprised if she resists petting or kissing around her face. An elevated water bowl or fountain is a must—small flat-ish dishes irritate them.

I always liked to say in my late 30s that I had at least a decade to achieve legs like Tina's.

My HK just called—her DH died about an hour ago. Their nephew said it was peaceful—he slipped away during a nap. She's on her way home tonight. She will miss the graduations after all, but I don't know if having been home when it happened would have made a difference for him. It's been a tough couple of years, as she had to miss Gordy's wedding because of her DH's illness and unwillingness to help his own health, leading to inability to take care of himself. He nonetheless refused to let her go to the wedding. BTW, the V.A. had long offered to pay for in-home caregivers, but he refused, saying he didn't want strangers in his house.

So she went to Alabama for nothing. He didn't forbid her this time, as he was okay with letting their nephew and his wife take care of him.

    betrayal Member Posts: 3,138

ChiSandy: Thanks for the feedback on the name. I do think she is a "Misty". She doesn't seem to mind if you touch her whiskers because she does rub on everything leaving her scent behind. I do avoid them though. Yes, those tufts are furnishings.

So sorry to hear that your HK's husband died and that she had to return without attending the graduations. At last she had a brief time with her family. He managed to control her until his death and that is really the saddest part. No, I am not saying he could determine when he died, just that he made decisions that shortened his life starting weeks or months ago. My condolences to her and I hope she can now live her life in the manner she so chooses. She is a saint for being there through all this.

HK's DH is lucky HK didn't murder him. What a controlling sob. Too bad she doesn't feel she can stay for the graduation, but it's her call.

My niece's DH died of kidney failure and it also was peaceful.

Sorry to hear HK will actually have to miss the graduation. The kindest thing I can think is that she likely won't have to miss much else after this.

I would like to be kind and wonder if HK's DH had medical issues/med reactions that may have contributed to his rather sour outlook and in-ability to accept help for himself and his wife. I do know that some men get used to the people in their household and don't really want anyone/strangers doing things for them that they can't manage for themselves anymore.

Well, it is nice that he drifted away while sleeping. Hope the nephew can maybe stay around for a bit longer and help perhaps a little more. That would be/could be nice for HK although she sounds quite used to having had to work with lots of complications.

Wishing everyone a peaceful heart and healing as soon as it is needed.

My goodness, so much news. I will have to come more often, obviously.

Cute kitten and sounds as if she will fit in. And she picked you.

We always get shelter dogs and my criteria is that they have to be willing to come to me on the first visit. We've changed all of the shelter names but "Jackson", a very smart Jack Russel terrier.

Interesting anti- mosquito recipe. We seldom have them because we don't have enough rain to have standing water but my DD sure does.

Came home from golf Sunday morning with terrible pain in my left knee. I was sure that I had torn a miniscus. Got into to see the ortho PA last night. After looking at the X-rays, she pointed that I was down to bone on bone and the cortisone shot I got gave me almost instant relief. I just managed Mutz and my evening walk. Hate to think about the future and that knee as the right knee replacement wasn't totally successful.

Speaking of which - has anyone heard from KeyWestern lately? She was so up after her knee surgery. Mary, it really sounds as if you have planned as well as you can.

My "starting chemo 2/17" group has maintained a Facebook page since then and just had the sad news that we had lost the second of our members.

Can't believe it is almost the end of May. Anyone have exciting plans for Memorial Day weekend? We don't so am looking for some vicarious fun.

Sandy - condolences to your HK on the loss of her husband

Last day of the school year for me - taking FMLA next week to go meet my grand daughter. We can't wait to hold her. My team had our last meeting of the year and they gave me a gorgeous plant for the yard and a gift card. So many sweet notes on the card. Really touched my heart. They went out for a celebration after the meeting, but I didn't join them as my son was coming to dinner to see how his mother is doing. What a great young man (what is the correct term for a 34 year old) - love him to pieces.

Karen, exciting about your last day of school and your travel next week to see your sweet baby granddaughter!!! I know I couldn't get enough of holding my grandbabies! Sooo nice that your son came over for dinner! Caring children, no matter the age, are such a blessing!!!!

Betrayal, I love the new kitten! I think Misty fits her perfectly! Also glad you were able to see your orthopedic doctor! I wanted to tell you that I am not sure if I let go of the whole breast cancer survivorship plan debacle or just pushed it with all my bad breast cancer memories, way back in my brain, but I feel much better today. I think it is due to the latter.

Sandy, I am sorry to hear about your HK's DH. I know she found it increasingly hard to deal with him, but it is still sad. I hope she finds some happiness now that her burden has been lifted.

Carole, glad you made it safely back to MN…….and NO mice!

Taco, I am so sorry to read about your knee! I had the gel injections two years ago and I am almost afraid to write this, but I haven't had any bad issues with my knee since.

Last night I went to hear my DGS's first orchestra concert! The first half was the orchestra, the second half was the band. I was actually surprised at how well they did! As the music teachers said, this was the shortest concert they do. It was 30 minutes total, but what a wonderful 30 minutes!

Today I hope to move the last of the things that I can move, out of the office. Of course a small bedroom upstairs will now need work as I just put everything I want to keep in that room, but I can take my time rearranging that.

I got new room darkening curtains for my bedroom and my DH's "soon to be" bedroom. I need to clear out the office and wash the walls before I put his new curtains up. I did put the new curtains in my room and wow, it REALLY makes the room dark! I do sleep better, the sun doesn't wake me, but I also lose track of time. I used to be able to guess the time, within minutes, if I woke up in the night, This morning I woke up at 6:30 and had no idea what time it was because the room was so dark! I will definitely need to get used to this.
