Hi Bonnie!  I just ordered  Jojoba oil from Miracell.com.  I had ordered "Calm ear" to help the itching in my ears, & I can use it every night.  I asked "Mary" if the Jojoba, (8 oz.) could be used for scarring, & she said "Yes, if they are not years old..."  But it would help newer scars....  The Miracell website sells just "Miracell" and "Calm Ear" and the Jojoba oil, which I think is 8 oz. so a much better "bargain"....Wink

I was told that if I massaged my scars, or adhesions, while they are "newer" it would help both the pain & the tightening...or "roping"..... So I did it about twice a day, right after surgery.  I know that's what a physical therapist would do....Or show you how....

How is your hearing?  I read where you lost your hearing due to chemo?   I did because of Tamoxifen....and reported it to the drug company.....hopefully they will add that possibility to their SE warnings..... Both Tamoxifen AND Chemo are murder on hair, or like nerve follicles in your ears. But I went to Costco, & bought their Bernafon Veras 9 hearing aids.   That's all I could do.

Okay gals.... Have a great afternoon! xoxoxoxo

Good morning all........it's a great morning and cooler temps. are coming by the week-end.  I'm thankful for that.  I drink a lot of water, so don't have too much trouble outside, but while I'm not actually vain.....there is just something about sweating......seems like something men should do, ya know.

In general I am thankful for all of my days....some more than others of course.  I'm hoping to learn yoga and then ( yoga will be so good for positive breathing techniques ) and then get back into meditation.  Dh and I learned/used meditation years ago when living in California and I think it is invaluable for keeping in touch with yourself.  It  ( in my humble opinion  anyway ) brings you to a state of letting go of life's ills and problems to great relaxation.....which usually in turn clears your mind to think more freely and correctly I believe of how to best make the most of life while garnering serenity.

Hopefully, I will be able to get into these things soon.  I'm working on a few other things at the moment but that is the way life normally is.....lots of un-planned but hopefully small detours on your way to things you want/need to accomplish.

I'll be checking in later.  Saying a big hi to all and hoping that you have a great day.

    Hugs, Jackie

It is going to be a wonderful Saturday here.  We had a great rainstorm that brought the temps down dramatically.  That always makes me happy.  In reality, I don't mind when it is hot......you can work with that......I mind when there is a lot of humidity with it.  The humidity makes me feel like a giant wet sponge trying to walk around and accomplish things.  So, one of the little things I'm enjoying today is the coolness after the rain......and how nice everything smells outside.  The cicadas ( we have so many this yr. ) are quiet for now and I'm totally enjoying that was well.

Enjoy all your little things today.

    Good morning everyone and panamajayne.

Wonderful that you stopped in panama.  I try to leave something of inspiration here every day.  It all began as a way for me to learn how to talk to others.....and with the thread I was on, everyone was pleased to see and experience the quotes that I live by and love.

Now, it is a way to share and give back for I am grateful daily that I am where I am at this point and continue to do well.

I hope everyone does well as this is not the easiest road to be on and so I think the company is welcome ---  sure hope so.  Coming here --  well to BCO has been a daily labor of love for me since 2007/2008 as I continue to be drawn to do what I can.

So, if you like, I hope you will come often, pull up a chair, put your feet up and just chatter away about anything you like.  It is about sharing and caring and helping where we can.  We are small, but I hope mighty.

Hope you all have a most wonderful Sunday and I'll be checking back through the day.

    Hugs, Jackie

Good morning  today.  It is still cool enough here to leave the a/c off but warm enough to keep the fans running.  About as close to just right as you can get I think.

Just sharing some thoughts here as they came up in another area.  It is about shingles.  It seems many people get them.....and there is a vaccine, but the clincher on that seems to be that many of the Oncologists don't recommend getting them.  I'm not sure what the theory is for that.  I just am repeating this in case this issue comes for anyone here.  Then again, maybe some of you have bumped up against this and have info you can share.

I had chicken pox ( only one on my nose ) as a kid, but have no idea why it was such a mild case --  perhaps because I was young and had rheumatic fever and living in this small town at the time ( seems like hundreds of yrs. ago now ) the Dr. was not totally sure how to treat it......so I think maybe he over-treated.....but with good things -- like vitamins.  I have heard that if you actually had chicken pox you might not get the shingles....that the chicken pox often creates a built in immunity.  Not sure of any of this....just passing it along just in case.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.  Be checking in later.

Jackie, regarding chic pox and shingles - My son had chicken pox twice - first was normal, mild.  The second time he was covered from head to toe, between toes, in ears and hair.   Pediatrician said that males (boys) can get it twice, but rare in females.    That was when he was 4-6 years old.  At age 30 he broke out in shingles - on his face.    Dr said the virus is dormant in the body and for some reason it rears its ugly head and shingles happens. Otherwise he is very healthy, only missed school when he had chic pox - 11 years perfect attendance.

My endocrinologist told me NOT to get the shingles vaccine because I am allergic to egg whites.   Perhaps it is incubated in eggs.

My oncologist has no interest in immunizations, such as keeping tetanus shot current or even checking vitamin D levels.   That is why I had Vit D checked at endocrinologist and mine  was critically low.   Mega doses over 6 weeks brought it back up to normal.

The part I hate is pcp has no or little interest in "routine: blood work to check Vit D, and when I told her about low results, she said to take a Vit D pill once a day - 400 mg.   So I figured I have used specialist for BC, surgery, onco, etc, so endo was the way to go with this.

I am not advocating seeking specialist doctors for every ailment, but passing on my experiences.

Nancy...I'm so glad you clarified that.  I am hopeful that I will never get shingles.....they sure sound like a royal pain.  I did hear as well.....if you have them and are unfortunate to get them again the second case is usually far milder.  Hard to be sure of anything since we all have bodies with differences....and little quirks that kick in and out.

Sure glad you had your Vitamin D checked.  I have heard a lot about that as well, but the main thing was how poorly the human body can operate when the D is too low......many problems can turn up.  Mine was checked...and it was fine.  So I take a bit over 400 units a day as I get some extra as part of another pill that the V.A. gives me.....and then what I get in my one a day type vitamin.  I think there are some people ( medical reasons ?? ) that are always low and always have to keep being tested to make adjustments.

I probably wouldn't go to specialists unless they were specifically recommended.....but you really need to keep check of your Vitamin D.  Sort of strange that any Dr. woudn't feel concern about a deficiency, but then Dr's are just as different as anyone else.  Maybe just not this Dr's strong point.

Morning gals!  I had just heard how bad shingles were, that I got the shot also!  I think it was before I even had breast cancer....but no side-effects either.

I was taking all kinds of vitamins & supplements & will probably start up again, including Vit.D..... But I had been so sick with that Asthma/Bronchitis, that I quit taking everything, except the meds....So now I have to get back on track again....Wink

Except the funny thing is, I don't feel any different, being off of all the vitamins/supplements, Ha!

Can any of you tell the difference when taking everything like that?  Maybe they all have hidden benefits?

I never got any advice at all, from any of my Docs about the subject...I just listened to a lot of the women on the forum here, and hope for the best.....

Chevy -- interesting point about not feeling***anything*** while you were off the vitamins etc.  I went without for about three weeks or so.  I wanted to try some multi's called Alive.  GNC was supposed to have them but our local one didn't.
Anyway....ordered then off the Internet --- you might know....Dh's came, but mine went on back order.  I too felt nothing.....but if we are not depleted of anything.....I think it would take a while for the body  to use up what it had......then another length of time to actually cause symptoms and suppose we could extrapolate that even farther out and say.....and then we would have to recognize them.....but, I didn't really feel a thing......and once I got them and started taking them....I still don't feel a thing......I guess I would not have even changed, but a nurse/nutritionist was trying them.....and I though....knowing her, she wouldn't buy anything if it wasn't "really good" and really good on price.  So, I figured and I read up on the Internet and liked some of the extra's that they put in without fillers, sugars and other things that I don't normally want in my pills.

    Have a good one.

Glad to be able to post again.  My computer is very tempermental.  Only works when it wants to.  I was reading posts on shingles.  I had one of the worse cases my Dr. ever saw.  They went from my belly button around to the spine.  Couldnt sleep, hurt to lay down and I thought they were very painful.  Had a kidney infection (only have one kidney ) Just been kind of relaxing and not doing much.  Been having pain in my left arm, I dont think its heart had my mastectomy on the left. What are the S/S of lymphadema?  I posted before about my calcium and vit. D.  I still havent started taking them and I dont feel any different.  The swan had her babies and is teaching them in the water.  The canadian geese all have babies and are so cute.  I miss everyone.  I just pray my computer will not act up.  Cyber hugs  DAR

Dar.....so good to see you here.  Hope your computer just decides to give up and behave.  We miss you when you are not here.  You sound like you have been having a time of it.  I think the worst part of lymphedema is the swelling and pain....though knock wood...this is what I read.  It has not happened to me.  Hope it doesn't.

Satisfying day pretty much for me.  I hope you all have a restful and relaxing evening.

Joycek, I lost Lacey, my 15 year old Maltese on 5/13.  I miss her so much but am thankful for the joy, fun, comfort she gave me in her lifetime. Due to chemo I'm not ready yet to get another puppy but have 3 friends who let me babysit their Maltese when needed.

    Thought for the Day
Friendship isn't a big thing; it's a million little things.

I hope you all have have a good day.  Mine was busy but good.  Hi Jo !!!  Good to see you

Panama.....I am so sorry to hear you lost such a good friend such a short while ago.  I am a HUGE animal fan and care-giver.  I can't say they are my whole life but they certainly take a very prominent role.  Although there are many people in my life....all of whom I adore, it is in the end the animals that I have been able to trust most.  They never repeat the secrets I tell them....and they always match me mood for mood.  They bring me up when I am down and they are patient and love as they wait for me to get up again.  They have been in my life when others were not and never failed to be a comfort.

Take heart....I do believe that our animal companions go where we are going and wait for us.  I believe when they arrive at the Rainbow Bridge they do so totally restored to health and romp and play with many others while they wait.  Just as we will see our human family again.....so will we see the special animal companions that found there way to us to share our life, and give us comfort, solace and joy.  The healing of loss takes time, but the love lasts forever.

    Hugs, Jackie

Hi Gals!  Someone sent this to my Daughter today, because you know how stressful some days can be....!  xoxoxoxoxo

    Today is DAY ONE of
    the rest of my life
when the day is done, I will let it be done
    tomorrow I
    get to start over again
    on another amazing DAY ONE

    I may have started
    up and failed
on day one hundred and one
I may have started up and
    failed
when I had only just begun

I may have started up and
    failed
or I may have actually won
    the thing I must remember
    is that
every new day is DAY ONE

Today I did the best I could
    tomorrow I will
    too
I also did my best yesterday
    this is absolutely true

    Today is
    the only day I have
and it started with a rising sun
    If I have a precious
    tomorrow again
the sun will rise as DAY ONE

    No more pressure, no more
    shame
no more pushing myself too far
all I can do is all I can do
    no
    more unfairly raising the bar

No more worrying, no more stress
    no
running faster than I can run
it's time to stop and let it be
    and remember
    it's always DAY ONE

Today is DAY ONE of the rest of my life
when the day is done, I will let it be done
tomorrow I get to start over again
    on
    another amazing DAY ONE

May it be a Good Day
    for You

I live in Scottsdale AZ. I am 69 years old & married have 3 grown children & grandchildren & great grandchildren. My husband is a minister for 30 years & still working strong. I am very involdved with church work also. The past several months I haven't been doing that much but am feeling better & getting involved a little once more. I had bilateral surgery(b) breasts in Oct 10 & just finished the reconstruction surgery & implants 2 weeks ago. There was no lynph node involvement, margins were clean & BV were clear. I am very thankful for this. I am on Farmara. I wish I had more energy back. My doctors tell me the mammagram saved my life. So I hope everyone does get theirs every year. I had since age 39. I was on estrogen for many years and only got off shortly befrore I was diagnosed. I had to get a new family doctor & he said there was no reason for me to be on hormone therapy. I tried to get off many times but my gyn got upset with me and said it would prevent osteoporosis. Well unfortunately I have osteoporosis and am on Fosomax & diagnosed with breast cancer. If I would have taken myself off estrogen many years before would I not have BC ? I don't know. I don't have BC in my family &i have always tried to eat right. So there you go who knows? I do know I want to educate women on getting regular mammagrams & encourage those who are diagnosed with BC. It still is difficult to look at my breasts, but I think in time it will be easier. I am here for anyone who wants to talk.
