anom, I'm glad to hear your report of 98 degrees being a tipping point.  You've listened patiently to me for YEARS as I complain about fatigue.  As for the ATP cofactors, I was aware of the protocol for companion supplements, but I'm slow to add new things into my mix.  I started the ATP cofactors in june and got some ester C in july.

The ester C is 1000 mg each, and I'm supposed to take 2-3 per day, but one at a time is all I can handle.  Sometimes I remember to take a second one at night. I've resumed taking 'natural calm' for magnesium.  My multi has zinc and selenium, which I usually boost with brazil nuts and pumpkin seeds to get the recommended protocol amount, but that's sort of hit and miss.

And yes, there is a new test for evaluating symporter function.  It's called the NIS test.  It's $160 and requires bloodwork.  I decided to just get more supplements and get on board with all that's recommended in the protocol.  It's where I would've been anyway had I done the test only to be told that my symporters are not working right.  That seems rather self evident, imo, since I had such lousy absorption rates after 5 months of supplementing at 63 mg/day.  I keep hoping trigeek will check in with her progress.  She has the symporter defect also and I hope she's doing better by now.

anomdenet  - refering to your comment about DIM being OK if you are taking enough iodine.  I couldn't find that reference on the sites you linked to. Can you advise further? I'm very keen to take it (DIM) and am already taking iodoral but Lynne at breast cancer choices seemed to think it would interfere.  Trying to get to the bottom of it- I don't want to undo iodine's good work.

    Thanks

    Hi all!

Just wanted to share something with you. Given the surgery I have coming up, (good thoughts and prayers appreciated on Thurs Sept 3!!) the surgeon wanted me to stop all supplements and vitamins other than Milti, Calcium, and C. so I did, and this included the Iodoral and the ATP cofactors.

If I had to do this over again, I would not do this. I stopped abruptly. Soon after I developed (1) a vaginal yeast infection, (2) a terrible rash "down there" in my private area, and (3) one of my toenails got a "fungus". BLECH!!!  So I am telling you all this so the same thing does not happen to YOU! Perhaps stopping gradually is better, (or not stopping at all, if you ask me).

I think my system was depending on the Iodine, and when I pulled it, all heck broke loose in me!!! Doy.

    Spring.

Dang, that really sucks spring!  They'll be slathering your skin with iodine post op, so hopefully you'll be on the mend real soon.  Do you have some iodoral with you to start taking right away post op?

It was only a matter of time before the Friggin Doping Agency started attacking natural thyroid supplements. Iodine will be next. We need to fight this gals. Take issue with your congress reps.

FDA Attacks Natural Thyroid Millions Depend On
We have learned that Time-Cap Labs, producer of a generic version of the brand name drug Armour, a natural and bioidentical thyroid replacement, has been ordered by the FDA to stop production. The FDA has decided to classify the company's product, available for over a century, as an unapproved new drug.  Since the new drug approval process is prohibitively expensive for a non-patentable substance, the FDA is in effect banning the natural product.  The purpose?  Presumably to protect the profits of other, inferior drugs that have been FDA approved.

AAHF In Process of Merging with Alliance for Natural Health
As some of you know, AAHF began life as the American Preventive Medicine Association. We adopted our present name in 1999.  Over recent years, we have worked more and more closely with The Alliance for Natural Health, a UK based organization founded by the distinguished food scientist Dr Robert Verkerk. ANH shares our mission and values and has been a tireless and effective advocate for natural health in Europe and internationally. We are now in the process of merging with ANH. After the merger is completed, we will adopt a new name: The Alliance for Natural Health-US or ANH-US.

    ANH-US Sues  FDA
ANH-US has filed three lawsuits against the FDA in recent weeks. In each case, we have been joined as plaintiffs by dietary supplement formulators Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw and the Coalition to End FDA and FTC Censorship. We are being represented by the law firm of Emord & Associates.

VitaminsForbes:  Vitamins  "Quackery". The Same Old Discredited Studies Are Hauled Out.

It's silly, to tell the truth.  Every so often, a major news outlet will publish an article to discourage people from taking vitamin supplements.  The articles cite a by now familiar group of very badly designed and probably intentionally biased medical studies that are quoted because of their anti-supplement results.  Sometimes the same old bogus studies are cited over and over, but made to seem like breaking news.  Most recently, it was Forbes' turn.

I am sending you love, light and peace for tomorrow and see you as whole, healthy and happy now and afterwards :)

Are you 'allowed' to take a good strong probiotic  to help with the thrush and surgery?  Just a thought.

Spring!! good luck tomorrow, let us know how you are doing when you feel up to typing! I had to stop all my supplements except for the multi before my exchange surgery in March, they especially didn't want me taking fish oil, I guess it thins the blood and you bleed more during surgery, but like you, had major withdrawal and felt icky, my surgeon didn't want me back on supplements until 2 weeks after surgery also, but didn't listen to that!!

    Vivre, thanks for that shish!!!

Sea, I never stop supplements before blood work, I had 17 vials taken for the work up by the naturopath, I think you are fine to keep taking them beforehand.

I am celebrating my big 50 this week, last year at this time, I was having my biopsy and waiting to see if I had BC......well we know how that turned out, so this year I don't care that I am turning 50, I am just thrilled to be having a birthday, just so blessed, thank you all for being here, I love you all so much, we are such warriors, I can't tell you how much you all mean to me.Kiss

You are in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery Spring. You are braver than I am. I am just content to be lopsided from now on! Hope you get back to us quickly so we can all feed off of your wonderful enthusiasm.

Happy Birthday to you Fairy!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes it is great how much we celebrate birthdays now and do not even care about the numbers. Patty is right, the first 50 are the hardest. I am sooooo enjoying then next 50!

Anom-What is the best way to do the temperature in the morning? Sometimes I wake up warmer than others, (depending on whether or not I was able to get my DH to close the windows, It has been really cold here at night lately). I feel like my body temp is adjusting to the iodine but I still have cold hands and feet. Of course, this cool summer does not help. No global warming here!

Springy, dear, we are sending you the softest, healing energy for a smoothe surgery and speedy recovery. Let us know you are when you are up to it. Remember the magnesium!  Think of us surrounding you with positive thoughts.

And Fairy, the cradle snatcher is pushing the big 5-0. Fifty is the new thirty. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Happy Birthday, dear Lorraine.

Vivre, My doc says to take your temperature several times throughout the day for a week. Regular thermometer. By mouth. It doesn't have to be under the arm like some people recommend. Then take the average. 98 degrees seems to be the tipping point when the symptoms go away- like cold hands and feet. You may need a chip of Armour. The long time iodine-takers often go on and off Armour, or increase/ decrease the dosage.

I can't believe all the years that I thought cold hands and feet were normal. My DH was very hypo and he never had cold feet but had other symptoms.

    KissKissKiss to all!

Not that I have an opinion one way or the other butiIt's not global warming--it's climate change.  It means some places will freeze more and others will heat more in a way that is incompatible with current life styles or existing wildlife habitat.

Climate change is a natural state of change on this rock, but we probably have had some effect; 7 billion people is a lot of stuff.

where o where do we get iodine supplements?  Iodoral?  Is Armour made from pigs like I've heard?  Is there an alternative to it?

Are lodoral and iodoral the same thing?

MsBliss-You can get iodoral from breastcancerchoices.org and other sources on the net. I get mine from my compounding pharmacist. He makes up a formula like iodoral that has a couple of extra things for absorption. It is based on lugol's formula that has been used for decades. Lugols is a liquid, and cheap, but some people prefer the tablets because Lugol's tastes bad. Dr. Brownstein's books explain it all too.

Timothy-Did you mean iodoral and iodine? Iodoral is a combo of iodine and iodide based on Lugol's formula.

So the proper name is Lodoral for the iodine product.  Maybe I'm mixed up, but I thought I saw a product advertised called iodoral.  I guess that was either a misprint or its a knock off of Lodoral.

Hey ladies I need some help! I have nodules on my thyroid. I thought I had read somewhere that people with nodules should be very careful when taking iodine supplements because they can make the nodules grow. Does anyone know about that? I'm getting my thyroid checked soon. If it shows that my thyroid is wacky I know he wants to put me on synthyroid but I don't want that. What are the other natural options? Thanks

Timothy ~  I think you're confusing the capital "I" for a lower case "l"-- which look identical on my keyboard.   Iodoral is a capital i.

Sea Otter   I have a multinodular thyroid too and am using iodoral to shrink them!  I can give you some great links so that you can start reading around the subject and make your own decision.

Patty, you need to go to naturalthyroidchoices.com and stopthethyroidmadness.com.

I think you will get more information there. Also consider joining the thyroid/iodine discussion group on yahoo that is run by the gal who also runs the first website. I think you will find the answers there. I read the group comments regularly and I think that iodine actually shrinks nodules. But you should check there to be sure.
