39 got diagnosed earlier this month. Had first biopsy 2001 fibroadenoma (left breast), 2nd biopsy 2006 (fibroadenoma), new lumps 2011 3rd biopsy (IDC grade 2). The doctor said likely it was fibroadenoma but since the lump was growing a biopsy was necessary! Mammograms did not detect my lumps even though they were visible through the skin!

    58

Found lump 1 month after a normal mammo.  MRI/US showed  0.9cm IDC only.  At lumpectomy, also found 8 cm of DCIS.  Had BMX because no study saw the DCIS, so no way to follow after the lumpectomy.  (Also had chemo and on Armimdex).

Bonnie, Blessings on you for being a BC survivor for so long. Sure gives encouragement to all of us! Your DX date says 4-7-11 so does that mean you had a new episode? A recurrence?

46 the first time. 74 the second time (not a recurrence, but a new cancer in the other breast)

Mammograms missed both - found them myself.

53, Stage IIIc.  Regular mammograms, dense breasts.  I found a lump two years ago which was dismissed with an ultrasound.  Just finished chemo and radiation, hoping for the best.

39, stage IIb. The mammogram report from the year before said, "watch this suspicious area." By the following year, the suspicious area was nearly 3 centimeters!

I had mammograms due to dense tissue from the time I was 37.  For three years, that screening found nothing.  I found my own lump and was diagnosed at 39.  ER+, Stage 1.  I recognize that is an anomaly among young women.  We have got to figure out why young women are getting such aggresive cancer.

I was told that my recent tumor took between 8 and 10 years to grow. Odd that the yearly mammograms didn't detect anything wrong during that time.

Reading this scares me that so many were so young when dxd.  I was 47 when dxd with stage III and 59 when dxd with stage IV this past September.

I have 4 daughters in their 20's and am afraid I've also passed it onto them.  I was told they should start having mammograms at 37 (10 yrs prior to mine) but I'm already pushing them now.

    25.  They wanted me to wait until 5 years prior to my mother's diagnosis, which would have put me at 38.  At 25 I was stage 2 with a 2.5 cm tumor and just found that the cancer has spread to my liver --- i would have been dead by 38.
