Apple, you bring tears to my eyes, we're so whiplashed by our own emotions, this time by terrific news. Your news is wonderful.
Gaynori, Yes, I suspect you're right, and I'm glad they did the scans before surgery so that I can feel assured that nothing's there now. I have a friend who had 'invisible' lobular cancer like me, and she gets alternating ultrasounds and MRI's every six months! My onc says he goes on symptoms only and that MRI's give too many false positives. What's right? I sure don't know.
Today I'm going to get some of my own work done, plus pie baking, plus see my Dad, plus plan a class, plus who knows what all. And I'll be wishing and praying for my waiting room buddies......GOOD NEWS FOR ALL.

Apple, I am so happy for you! That just made my day today! What good news!
Lexilove, Iknow about those appointments. You dread them, look forward to them, and then they are as boring as ever --- the "how are you", "You look good", "Any problems?" "See ya in 6 months!" "I'm here if you need me!" And then it's over and you are out the door!
Bette, love your therapy! I'm not a good story teller, so I appreciate those who can really do it well!
How long do I wait before I breathe????? I had the PET scan on Thursday, the 2nd. They said because of the holiday, it would probably not be on my chart until Monday. Today is Tuesday. The gal said they only call if something comes up on the scan and they need to see me. No call if everything is fine. So. . . . it's Tuesday now. Do I breathe yet?????

Nelia, lots of testing places and Dr's offices tell us they will only call us if something is wrong. I myself find this practice unacceptable. So, I would call and ask for my results and for a copy of the report to be mailed. My OB knows they have to call me one way or another with my PAP too. I am one bossy b.... when it comes to my health (okay and alot of other stuff too LOL).
I'm still waiting....................

Learned today that a needle biopsy is too risky due to the location of my lesion. They said my lung might collapse. So now the pulmonary specialists are looking at my scans to see if they can do a bronchoscopy. I looked it up and it does not sound pleasant. The end result is more waiting. At least today I got three progress report phone calls from a fantastic CRNP at the Breast Center. It makes it easier when you know what is going on.Bette0

Bette im so sorry about all this and MORE waiting. I'm glad your docs are being cautious though. Maybe you can start a thread about bronchoscopy's so you can get a better idea from some ladies on here. *ugh*
I can hear your frustration, really. We are all STILL here for you!!

Hugs and prayers for you Bette, my girlfriend and another friends husband have both had bronchoscopy's and they were sedated and said it was not a bad procedure, only the husband said he had a sore throat afterwards.

More prayers for you, I hope the procedure is well tolerated and it brings some relief to all of your waiting and questions!

Oh, Bette! More waiting, huh!!!!! I'll be praying that all goes well and that all your questions will be answered. Let us know, won't you?
I finally decided to call the cancer center today, and my scan was clean!!!!! YES!!!!! No problems!
The gal must have read my blog because she told me that next time I should not hesitate to call for results to a test and become all stressed out like that. Now, how would she know if she had not read it????? I know a few of the gals in there have my blog address. . . .!!!!! Well, that's ok! They should know how stressful it is for someone to wait and not hear anything!
Thanks to all of you for your concerns and prayers!!!!! It sure helped me through this past week!

Neila, that's great about the clean scan!
We got a call from our local hospital today offering an appointment for a needle biopsy TOMORROW. Thank God we had heard from Hopkins about the risks of the procedure, or we might have said yes, and I might have had a collapsed lung at a small community hospital!
The pulmonary specialists at Hopkins are still considering my case to decide on a safe alternative to a needle biopsy.
During this time when I am waiting and stressed, Tom has been extra considerate and affectionate. Yesterday he sent me flowers. I am so glad we did not put off the wedding until I was well. We wouldn't be married and I would be missing his love and support.
Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts.

Great, Nelia, the news we were waiting for! Goosebumps here too.
Bette, Isn't strange the way things work out sometimes. This time the waiting we all hate brought you just what you needed. Now for a great result. And you are lucky, there's nothing like a good man, bless him.

Yes, fortunate1, the waiting brought me information and saved me from a risky procedure. Now we just have to learn what a safe procedure would be, and get it scheduled. And the waiting for the pathology report will follow the biopsy. I will not be leaving the waiting room anytime soon.

Bette, I'm glad you have those good doctors watching out for you. Good morning. Sunshine, fresh coffee, maybe a bad-for-you delicious pastry, and a short and easy wait before you get exactly the news you want.
Once again I'll try to get my syllabus in order for a new semester. It's very hard to keep on task, no concentration at all.

We are still waiting. We received a call from pulmonary medicine at Hopkins today. They said that due to the doctor's surgery schedule they would not be reviewing my case until Monday. So we can kick back tomorrow and relax, without constantly listening for the phone.
Today I saw my radiation oncologist for a checkup and she told me that she did not want me stressing out about the PET scan/biopsy thing. She said, as some of you have told me, that PET scans can show false positives. So I am trying to calm down and not worry so much.

Bette
Did you have any symptoms or did you just see this on your scan?
I hope you can relax this weekend and enjoy your loving Husband!!!1

Nelia..great news! Happy for you. Bette, I hate..hate what you are going through right now. Your rad doc is right there are a lot of false positives with PET scans ect. Really, the only thing definative is biopsy's and a look under a microscope.
I hope that you can try to have a good weekend and try to let your head rest a bit. I hope this whole ordeal is over soon for ya.

I had some chest pain and a cough while I was on FEMARA, and they did a CT scan which showed the lesion and the two swollen nodes. They followed up with a PET scan, which showed increased uptake in those three areas. I am now off FEMARA and waiting for a biopsy.
Since talking with the rad onc and hearing that there won't be any news until next week, I feel a lot more relaxed.

Good glad to hear you are feeling a bit better, From your posts I gather you have much faith, and that will carry you through in this next few days. For the time being you do not have cancer so (as far as you know) so breathe enjoy and rest in that peace that comes from great faith. You radiate it in your pix! By the way I know many that have a cough from the AI's so and remember PETS do have false positives.

Hi ladies,
I've been off for a while, and am glad to see that most of you have recieved some great news.
For those of you that are still waiting my thoughts and prayers are with you as I too still wait and can certainly relate.
Scans were all clear, whew!!!!!, had my re-excision yesterday and surgeon said everything looked good to his eye. Now I'm just waiting to get on with rads. I desperately hope that they can get me in soon as I am a teacher and don't want to miss the fist couple of weeks in September. I think that is the most important time for establishing rules, guidelines, routines and relationships. Especially with 8 year olds.
I know, everything for a reason. Take one day at a time. That's my rant and mantra for today. Have a great weekend everyone.

Sherry! Hurray! So glad to hear that the scans were clear. Here's hoping for a short wait and an easy time with radiation.
A good relaxing weekend for you and everyone else too.

Still waiting. I think it will be a long quiet weekend as Tom is working nights at his nursing job and sleeping during the day.
Sherry, great news! I am happy to hear that you scans are all clear.
I am praying that this recent positive PET proves to be just a bump in the road after my lung is biopsied. Hopefully that will happen next week.

Hello all, well, I am in the waiting room sooner than I expected..... I found my cancer 7/4/2008 and early this month I went for my annual mammogram (I had a lumpectomy in August last year and I am still on Herceptin)....I wait, then they have the radiologist look at it, then they come in and had me a piece of paper with 'ABNORMAL' checked on it and tell me not to worry, they need to to compare films and talk to my doctor and will be back to me 'soon'. Well, needless to say, I am stressed. I just got over a poisonous spider bite that sent me to the hospital, the herceptin causes allergies in my eyes and now I have a neurological condition of eye spasms that I have to get botox injections deep in the muscles each 2 month and now this...... I am going to hug my 11 year old beautiful daughter all weekend and wait for the results next week. Thank you for letting me share.... lyn
