Just got back from the Upper Penninsula in Michigan. Had a great time. I thought of you all and could never respond to so much news. Maggie, I can't believe you continue to deal with pain. Things JUST have to get better for you.

Is the Angilina comment rumor? I thought she went to CA where other celebrities have gone.

Give Dr. M a hug for me. 77 pounds. She was around 60 in May and she looked great then.

    Glad to be back.

Marcie... the quote from SCSH and the Center is one quote and UNRELATED to the anesthesia bill, and pre surgical tests... so I am sorry to say that the bill from Parish and the bill from Oschner has nothing to do with the quote given to you by SCSH and the Center. That is just for the PS and hospital facility. For my stage 1, I got a separate bill for Dr Stolier, anesthesia and pre-surgical tests.

The only bill I have received so far is for the pre-op with Dr. S. My insurance only covered 94.00 of the 420.00 bill...:(

I'm apologizing in advance because I am not sure where to post this.

I was diagnosed again with breast again on 6/19/13 with DCIS. I had SNB on June 21,2013 and it was negative...much to my relief. I am now seeing the plastic surgeon on July 9th for consultation and will be scheduled to have a bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.

Initially I had just had breast MRI one week prior to all this and an ultrasound, mammogram as well as ultrasound needle core biopsy was ordered. Needless to say I was petrified. When the results came back on the 19th I was a mess. I had already scheduled an appointment with my breast surgeon about having a mastectomy and the results that she gave me in the office only confirmed my decision to go ahead with this surgery.

I have been so tired of waiting for the other shoe to drop...and it did. I want to experience the freedom from worrying all the time about breast cancer. Of course I realize that it is not 100 percent, but the anxiety from all the scans, mammograms, tumor, follow up doctor appointments leaves me feeling anxious all the time. Mentally I'm tired, but feel like I'm in a good place now because I am going to do this. I have the full support from my wonderful husband and of course my breast surgeon.

I just needed to vent and also if you ladies have any opinions or suggestions I do welcome them. Thank you in advance.

Shorfi, sorry to hear about your rediagnosis. The same thing happened to me and I opted for the DIEP at Nola. Best of luck to you as you navigate through your options.

Mags, Hang in there. Doctors always bill more than insurance pays. It's a game. My largest bill was $200k and BCBS paid $13k. I dont expect to get a bill for the rest. That's supposed to be 75% of their allowable charge. I don't know of SCSH will appeal but I'm not worried. The center does not balance bill (so I hear) but they may ask you to help if insurance won't pay to make some calls.

Need positive thoughts and prayers for my daughter. She called me today as she found a marble size lump in breast/ armpit area. She is only 31 with a 2 year old and trying to get pregnant right now. She is new to the Chesapeake, VA area and has no doctors. She has a friend that referred her to an OB-GYN group. She will call them tomorrow. I told her to have them refer her to a BS so it can be biopsied. Of course, with my history, she is scared. I gave her the standard line that most lumps are benign and to not worry yet. We all know that this doesn't work very well. My heart goes out to her.

Marsha... That is terrible coverage. What did the Center tell you you would pay? They don't balance bill if you have certain types of insurance. Some people don't have that coverage. Aetna has covered my first three surgeries without issues (at a negotiated rate), but this last one, not so much. The hospital bill for one night and surgery was 110K. Aetna paid very little, and I see the hospital has re-submitted for the balance of 79K. And Dr D's bill was covered for about a third... They will keep at it to get more money.

Bdavis, I have no idea what they expect to get. I have BCBS with out of network coverage. I'm sure they know what to expect from them and how much they will need to hassle them to get paid. There have been many other bills and payments and I haven't seen Dr. S's bill yet for my first surgery. Maybe they are saving that one for last.

Marsha. My surgery was in January and I know they are still billing insurance because I can track it online. I wouldn't be surprised if I am not billed for months. But I know that day will come. The only bills I have received and paid are anesthesia. So if you have received bills, then those are apart from the doctor bill.

Itching!  One of my DIEP breasts is itching like crazy, internally.  Because I had implants for many years, I doubt that it is indicitave of nerves reconnecting.  Is there anything I can do to calm it down?  I had my Stage 2a 10 weeks ago and that side was lifted.  Aaarrrggggghhhhh! It itches.

Ugh I hate that sensation. I have had it iff and on since. I would rather have nerve zingers. I offer no advice except to say it will go away. You could try benadryl if it does not knock you out. Or just try distraction. Sorry martyj...I wish I could offer something more insightful

Does anyone have experience with Dr. Von Almen, the ob/gyn the center refers to?  I've been talking with him about doing either a tubal ligation/ablation or a hysterectomy/oophorectomy in conjunction with my upcoming 2b in September.  Even though I've not met him in person, he has been extremely concerned with helping me make the right decision.  I'm amazed at how vested he's become without having met me in person.  He's called me two or three times on a weekend, he gave me his home phone number, I'm just not used to this level of openess and concern.  It's refreshing and has helped reduce my anxiety immensely.  Just wanted to see if anyone here has had a procedure done by him.  FWIW, he's going to do the ligation and ablation and I'm going to be monitored locally every 6 months for ovarian cancer.

Oh and great news on the arm....down 406ml in three weeks. Therapist takes volumetric measurements and in three weeks my left L E arm is smaller than my right! So exciting! Marty glad the it went away. I used to get it inmy armpits all the time and across my chest, which is crazy because all other feeling there is gone....annoying

Needing some advice. My 31 year old daughter has found a lump in her breast. She is rather new to the Chesapeake, VA area and has never been to a doctor yet. She is seeing an OB-GYN on July 1. Is this the right path for someone that has family history? Does anyone out there know of a breast specialist in that area? Any ideas? She is scared and I am obviously very troubled. She is a young mother of a two year old. Help!!

Cherrie - When my dad lived in Chesapeake he had to go over to Norfolk or Va Beach for doctors.  Though Chesapeake regional hospital has a Breast Center.  I think based on the fear factor, if she could call the hospital they might get her in for a mamo and evaluation quicker than an ob/gyn.

Cherrie, I sent you a message. Obgyn can write her an order for diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound which she can take anywhere. A mammogram is not an effective screening tool for a woman under 40. Ultrasound, MRI and biopsy are more effective. She may need to get pushy to get the screening she needs because even with family history doctors don't take young women seriously because it is so uncommon in that age group.

Cherrie...Have her go to her appt. on July 1st. I would personally get a biopsy. It is the 100% way of knowing if it is cancer or not. My ultrasound and mammo didn't show mine..:( Praying it is nothing!!!!! She would have to say she wants the biopsy.
