Hooray, Renee! Great news.
Pam, glad everything worked out and that you're in beautiful CA.
To all of you great ladies - lots of love!
Hope to have everything done for Christmas by tomorrow. I've decided to bake and cook next week. Can't wait to put on my big soft bathrobe tonight and start picking out cookie and bread recipes. And then I'd better look at a catalog and pick out a bigger pair of pants.

Mary know what you mean. I have been trying so hard to get my weight in check and have managed to lose 23 lbs. That is a great accomplishment for me. I plan on eating through Christmas, then I will get back on it after the holidays. I just don't want to gain any back.

Me too Juanelle! after Christmas its the treadmill for me...got to get lean, mean and healthy LOL!

Oh ya, hello gym...But until then pass the cookies.

There are several things that seem to have happened since I lost the weight. So it would be to my advantage to keep the weight off. When I was doing chemo my left arm started hurting and it hurt all the time. They checked me for blood clots and nothing. After all my treatment was over it still hurt, so I went to my regular doctor and they said that I had unexplained neuropathy. So he put me on gabapentin and I have been taking it for about 6 months and I was very faithful about it because I didn't want it to hurt. Since I have lost the weight my arm has stopped hurting. Thinking back to when my arm started hurting, well it was when I started retaining fluid and gained the weight really fast. Well, since I lost the weight, my arm no longer hurts. Also, I was really having bad acid reflux and I have had that for years, but since I have really been watching what I eat and have cut way back, then I am not having that trouble either. So my health is really improving and it feels so good after the last 18 months.
It is amazing how changing your diet can make so many differences, in so many ways.
I have had a great day today. Christmas with my kids and we had a really good time. Simple foods and lots of presents. That is the way I like it.
Hope everyone has had as good a weekend as I have had.

Ladies this will probably be my last post till after my surgery. I hope you all have a wonderful Monday. I am getting a bit of the case of nerves now. Not quite sure why... very strange since this is something that I have been looking forward to. I guess it's the unknown and mostly wondering about the pain, whether I will have alot or not. Also the fact that I still have some Christmas shopping to finish and I don't get paid till Thursday and need to go Christmas Eve and pick up a few things. I really need to feel well enough to go out with my hubby or mom and get them. That means I have to get out of bed and dressed without being sick. O.k. I'm not going keep rattling on. "Take care everyone.

Renee ~ I hope everything goes smoothly and your pain is minimal. YOU can't worry about the shopping if you don't feel up to it, you don't want to ruin your doctor's work ~
Hugs !!!!

Love you, Renee! Will think about you all day today. Please check in when you feel up to it.0

Renee, hope the surgery went well today and that you are recovering without too much pain.
Juannelle, congrats on sticking with the weight loss. You are inspiring! I know how much benefit I could get if I would just lose some weight. I've done some walking over the last several days, and I'm so sore! Maybe doing too much too soon? (two hour walk yesterday...)
Pam, enjoy your time with the fam in CA.
I'm in hibernation mode right now. My girls are at their grandparents' for the week, and I'm off of school until mid-January, so I'm using this week as "me" time. Reading books and eating ice cream (hmmm, maybe that's not so good for weight loss?), taking walks, staying up late and sleeping in. I've been a bit down, overwhelmed lately, so I think this time when I only have to take care of me should help somewhat. I hope.
Love to all my sisters here!!

Renee, hope the surgery went well and you are getting those pain meds.
Shelby, I think we all have to have some time to ourselves and you should feel good that you are getting this opportunity.
One day closer to Christmas and all those holidays. Last year I had my last chemo on 12-24. This year has flown by. What a difference a year makes.

Hi my wonderful sisters! Thank you so much for all the hugs and prayers said yesterday. Everything went great and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be!! The surgery lasted about 2 1/2 hrs, then off to recovery for about 45 mins and then I got a room for the night. They released me to come home this morn about 10:30. When the doctor came in this morning he took some of the bandages out of my surgical bra and I got to see them. They are swollen and not the size they will be in the end but look good (I guess). LOL! The doctor did tell my husband yesterday that my right breast that had radiation looked like a piece of wood underneath the skin. So, that is how wonderfully fried my breast tissue was by my rads onc. Taking the good pain meds and staying a little loopy, along with all the antibiotics. My DH said the doctor told him if he needed to do something more to the right breast he could do it in the office??? I'm not sure what he was talking about. Guess I'll ask next Monday...
Take Care

Shelby - hope your time to yourself is a healing time. Sometimes having those feelings can speed up the process. Love and hugs to you.Renee, so glad to hear you are doing well.Pam - wondering about your trip to California. Hope you are enjoying the season.Ladies, you are each wonderful. XO0

Pam are you home yet? Hope you had a wonderful trip and that your DH is doing well with his recovery.
Mary, Alicia, Michelle, Juanelle thanks for the well wishes... if I left you off the roll call I have a hard time remembering names, they are not my forte'. Matter of fact I guess that is one of my weaknesses that I need to work on this coming year.
Just a quick update... only one pain pill today and the rest of the day has been Tylenol!! And really I used that to keep a temperature at bay. For any of you that may be thinking of some kind of reconstruction whether it's in the near future or down the road a bit, I definitely would advise you to go for it. The pain has been amaziningly minimal. The breast incisions don't look like I thought but I think I watched to many tapes on the net and my expectations were not quite realistic. LOL! (life is not always as it appears in the movies so to speak) The incisions look ugly and there is still quite a bit of assymetry, but hopefully that will correct itself in the coming months. I did go from almost a DD on the right to full B or small C because of rads and the left side had to reduced from a DD to B/C by the doc and then a lift. There's more fullness and roundness on the left than the right since there wasn't as much done. But still I happy because I don't think I will need a padded bra after this. LOL! Oh one other thing worth mentioning is the compression bra that I have to wear, not the most fun thing in the world since it goes down to your waist and you have to sleep, eat and drink in it... everything but bathe.

Merry Christmas all my wonderul friends.

Renee, so glad you are doing well. I am so glad that I do not have to go through reconstruction, but it sounds like you have made it through.
What a difference a year makes, last year on this day I was getting ready to go to my last chemo. I was dreaming about hair and dreading rads, but here I am a year later with hair, rads over, getting my weight back in check, can make it a whole day with both my grandkids and feeling like my old self.
Merry Christmas to everyone and hope we all get the chance to eat too much and get everything we want.
Love to all
Juannelle

Hello fellow Class of 2009 sisters! We are nearing the end of our first cancerversaries and the following year of 2011 will bring our 2nd cancerversaries for each of us. I just wanted to stop in and wish everyone happy holidays and wish everyone well in the coming year. I hope that it brings good health for all of us.
After finishing up treatment this past year and reaching my healthcare maximum out-of-pocket of $11,000, I decided to take the rest of the year for recovery and to take care of some elective (and free!) surgeries - like rotator cuff in Sept., bladder tie up in Oct. and now foot surgery next week. I am hoping to clear everything up and make next year my year for fitness and getting in shape. It will be a hard climb to fight my way out of the inertia from the past year, but I hope to count on my fellow sisters in the fitness thread for encouragement and support.
Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and wish everyone well.

Good for you meg8000. It is good that you are getting these things done while you can, especially since you have paid your out of pocket expenses. It is about time we get some stuff for free.
