Our chicken a la king was fabulous. Instead of three red peppers as called for in the recipe I bought one red, one yellow and one orange... so it made a lovely colorful affect. If I made it again I would thicken the sauce a little more but it was really good. But as my friend said, if you cooked an old tire in all that butter and heavy cream it would taste good! My homemade biscuits were not as good as "Grands" but slathered with all that sherry, chicken, mushrooms, peppers, cream and butter made up for rather mediocre biscuits.
We are enjoying our houseguest, a violin maker from California. Over the years he has sold a few instruments (violins and cellos) to Japanese players. So he was there a few years ago to deliver one and went into a shop that sold instruments. Makers put a label inside their instruments, it is glued to the inside of the corpus and you can read it by peaking through f-holes. So he was looking at some instruments and some of them had his name in them as the maker and HE DID NOT MAKE THEM! He said he was angry and honored at the same time! People were making knock offs of his instruments.
I hope all of you still suffering from bad weather will soon get a break. The ground hog did say it will be an early spring. So there is hope.

Pam, in my next life I will play the violin...love the sound, but I couldn't play for the life of me...no musical talent here.

I don't have a musical bone in my body. DH can pick out a squawky "Happy Birthday To You" but it is painful to listen to. Everyone loves the violin. I think you have to start young tough!
OK, what do you want to be in your "next life?" I'm thinking I would like to be an artist. French impressionism. Water Colors.
What about everyone else?

Chellie I don't believe that scars tan but have you looked into cosmetic tattooing? I read that you can have those scars filled with skin coloured ink so that they blend in better.

No snow here - just a beautiful sunny day. But we are going to get some heavy rain over the weekend!

singer..you do not want me to sing anything now, even happy birthday. Not a professional singer, just be able to carry a tune. My family has no talent. I do have a son that plays by ear. When he was little I got a piano and he would listen to me practice for hours, and it didn't help me, he would sit down when I was finished and play everything that I had tried to play. I don't know where that comes from. I paid for him to have lessons for years, piano and violin, and today he will not touch either one. All my wasted money.

I played the violin for 5 years when I was in school - I only wish I had kept it up! At the time, I didn't like the necessary practice. I also played the tuba for a year in middle school. My friends dared me to take up the tuba; being the crazy kid I was, I took them up on it. The band director was devastated when I quit after a year. I was a teenage girl, and all I could think was how silly I would look marching with a big old sousaphone in high school. I've always loved to sing, and I'm not too bad (in my opinion).
I'm grateful that both of my girls have the music bug. My older daughter plays the clarinet, and is SO talented. She loves it! I don't think I've ever once had to tell her that she needs to practice, she does it completely on her own. She even takes half of her lunchtime at school to practice! It definitely pays off - as a sophomore, she is second chair, and missed making the state band last month by just one chair. She plans on joining the city's youth orchestra next year, and is excited because the very talented boy that is first chair will be graduating, and she is positive she will take his place! She recently started playing the guitar, teaching herself from YouTube videos. My younger daughter is the singer - also very talented. She is the lead Soprano II in her middle school choir, and participates in the show choir at school as well. We all love to sing together in the car!
Pam, you asked what we would be in our next life - I guess I'm living my "next life" right now! It took me years to figure it out, but I love being a teacher! I'm so looking forward to graduating in May with my Master's in Deaf Education, and looking forward even more to getting my own classroom!! "(I'm thinking positively that I will get a job when I graduate :P.) I guess in my next life, I'd like to figure out much earlier in life what fulfills me and not be afraid to go after it!
The ice and snow that coated the city yesterday prompted city officials to close all of the highways, leading to a necessary closing of the schools (no highways = much more difficult to get to school!). It was a nice day off with my girls, and they had so much fun in the little bit of snow we got, making a mini-snowman and trying to find a hill to slide down! Everything melted and evaporated, and tomorrow is supposed to get near 70 degrees. Weather is forecast to get very cold again on Wednesday though, and a possibility of rain and more ice. Ah, the weather in south TX!
Hugs to all, and have a great Saturday!

Shelby... it is Shelby, isn't it?... how great to be a musical family. Just does not run in my immediate family. My sister has a great voice but she was adopted so it didn't come in my gene pool. I think you can learn an instrument without having the "gift" but to be really good, I think you have to be born with it. Wow, you have chosen a demanding career but so rewarding. Will you work in the general school system or is there a school for the Deaf in your area? I don't think you have wasted time reaching this point in your life.... you will combine the maturity of your experiences with the enthusiasm of a beginner. Your students will be lucky to be in your class!
Snow in south Texas! It's a strange year.

Hi ladies! and yes Pam it has been a strange year! We just had another round of very unexpected snow here in Cullman, AL. They were only calling for rain on Thursday and low and behold out of nowhere this front came up and the cold air mixed in and we had sleet, freezing rain, and snow! The worst part was that the schools were caught so unexpectedly and and children were on buses that ran off in ditches and had to turn around because they couldn't make it up icy roads/mountains to get children home and take them back to the schools. The children had to sit for hours on the cold buses and wait for parents or someone to try and make it to the schools to pick them up on the treacherous roads. There were many wrecks because the ice feel and froze on the roads so quickly that people were just not prepared for and no tires or chains. We just don't have those things here in the south. Needless to say it was a mess but we had a beautiful winter storm in Vinemont where I live and it snowed hard and we got about 2-3 inches of snow in an hour ( that's just a guess ) then it sleeted and ice feel. By the next morning at 8 it had melted off the road ways and we were able to drive into work with no problems. Only in Alabama. Gotta love the South!0

I stayed at home today and am ready for some warm weather. I mean more than a couple of days. We didn't get much ice here this morning, but enough to keep me off the roads.
Shelby, I am in awe of anyone that manages to work, go to school, raise a family and of course, go through BC. You are truly an amazing person and I hope you get that job.
Mimi, I know you have had more than you share of ice and snow this year. Its that global warming.
Stay warm everyone, it is cold out there.

I will get my 22 month old granddaughter tomorrow and will have my grandson also. It will be a start to a great weekend.

One L...I can't believe the week has already gone by even though I know tomorrow is Friday. I also had a clean mammogram two weeks ago. Still having problems with Lymphedem and neuropathy. The Femara has finally kicked in with side effect. Feeling very fatigue the last few weeks and I don't want to talk about the knee pain and other muscle-joint pain. I have got to deal with it for 4 years and 9 more months. ugg. Other than that doing great!
Congratulations on your clean mammogram.

Catching up has been fun... Chicken a la king, clarinets, Mrs. Clooney, hairdos. Class of 2009, you are wonderful. No big news. Just here to say hi. I've been getting involved with Urban Forest stuff, which is just a fancy way of saying I'm helping to get more trees in the city. We're starting to keep track of historic trees, too. And to me, this is great fun. There are some good old souls growing around here. Don't know why, but a good tree just brings peace to my crazy self.0

Kitty, glad to hear you also had a good report. As Alicia said, hang tough, I am on Anastrozole and have been for almost a year and my SEs are beginning to subside. Mostly it has been in my hands with my thumbs hurting the most, but lately I haven't been noticing it as much. Boy am I glad.
Hey Mary, your volunteer work sounds so interesting. There are many beautiful areas in Dallas that have such big beautiful trees. Keep up the good work.
Mary Louise, I am enjoying her and my grandson. He is here to help me with her, or at least that is what he thinks. He is really good with her, but gets a little rough some time, but it is because he is 6 and he doesn't know his own strength.
Michele, thanks it is really a good feeling. I have only had good reports, but it would only take one to ruin my day or life. lol
Have a great weekend everyone,
Juannelle

I'm sorry to be always asking so many questions when I get on here but I feel like a hypocondriac some days. I am 47 had lumpectomy in late 2009 and radiation, no chemo. I have bugged my dr with all kinds of aches and pains and different feelings that just arnt right , or should I say "normal," to me. I just had a Uterine biopsy per my Gyno and that all came back normal. Over the last 2 weeks I've had a dull continuous headache on the back of my head toward the base of my skull. It is always worse when I wake up or during the night. I've never had this kind of headache. Im prone to migrains but they are always between my temples and right behind my eyes, I get all the usual migrain symptoms with those but with these new ones it just seems to be dull pain and hangs on.Ive tried switching pillows and not using one at all. Of course I worry to much and am probably being silly but my mind tends to wonder to the dark side when this happens to me. In the last year ive had uterine biopsy, back xrays, bone scan, blood tests galore etc. any advise on what I should or should not do. I need some advise from those that have been there, done that, Thanks ahead. Jamie

Dualgate, I think we all let our minds wander to the dark side from time to time. It wouldn't be normal if we didn't, it would be called denial...have you tried getting a back and neck massage, or better yet an full body massage. It could be stress. That is where I feel stress and also get headaches. You didn't mention if you are on Temoxefin. It could be a SE from T if you are on that. None the less it is worth mentioning to your ONC.
0 -
dualgate - are you clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth in your sleep?
I had terrible headaches, neck and jaw pain and was convinced it was a side effect of Tamoxifen or mets somewhere. All of my tests have come back clear and I took a break from Tamoxifen but it didn't go away.
Recently I had exchange surgery (lots of drugs - pain killer, tylenol and anti-inflammitory) and I also bought a new pillow (cloud pillow by Subakawa).
The jaw pain is gone - for now.
I also have issues with stress and carry that in my neck and shoulders.
AND it doesn't help that I've had a tissue expander in and now an implant (which is bigger than the TE). All that is pulling on my chest, neck and back muscles.
I know it's a worry when you've had one type of cancer to suspect that there might be movre hiding in your body and it's very easy for your mind to go there and to worry and stress about it.
My ONC once asked me - when I complained about the neck/jaw/head pain - "if you didn't have BC what would you think this pain is?"
I answered stress or a sinus infection. He told me "that's probably what it is".

Marie, I like how your DR. thinks. Our minds just go to the dark side don't they....

Miclele and Marie, thank you so much for the kind words and info. I'm going to call my onco today and see what he says.I'm wondering if it could be the nerves I have worked myself up so much over this? I have no idea if I grind my teeth at night, my husband has never said anything about it. The pain is going down the big muscle of my back on the left side so I dont know if it might be muscle pain? or what? Im hoping he gets me in for a test, im guessing a ct scan. I guess we'll go from there. Michele: about masages, my dad had lung cancer and the drs told him he couldnt have masages, is this the same with breast cancer?lso he had his cancer like 12 years ago. thanks you two, you have both been great at easing my fears.
