Sheila,
I was thinking along the lines of keeping our limbs warm. I actually will ACE Bandage my legs at times to keep the muscles warm and (I think) reduce the risk of injury of muscle strain. I was trying to remember the name of the machine (SPLAT!) that we do use after surgery that's quite yummy. I must have put them on and taken them off of people over 50,000 times, and now I can't remember their name. pppfffftt!
What medicines have been used to try and alleviate the SE of these meds? Do they take on a seqeulae like fibromyalgia? I take Neurontin (failed Lyrica, hated it after one pill, I felt like I was on a tilt a whirl) and if I skip a dose, I really notice the difference in my muscles and of course the neuropathy from the Taxotere. Of course the SE from any of those meds, or like Baclofen is drowsiness, so I only take it at night.
Well, I am off for another day.
Take care ALL! May your Angels take you by the hand and lead you through life today

G'day all,
I just called this old lady who's in a Toronto nursing home. Her name is Aspasia (who's also an RN) and she has no surviving relatives, even her guardian (who was her dear friend had passed away in July 2010). Aspasia is suffering from bone cancer and currently is in a lot of pain and had not gotten out of bed for several days. Her only direct phone was also cancelled and I was not able to speak to her. The nurse assistant said that she's in a lot of pain so I would like to ask you all for prayers to ask God to alieviate her pain to either let her ride through this or to take her gently. I don't know what else to say but feel really sorry for this old lady
Thank you for listening!

Including her in my prayers! Can't they give her meds?? xo

(my post disappeared)
LMFSM ~ thank you for your prayers for Aspasia. I know she had pain meds and dose was increased in Aug. Not sure what's going on now as I am unable to talk to her directly and the nurse assistant can't say much to me due to patient privacy.
Tori ~ prayers for you as well. Hope you are feeling better soon
Prayers to all sisters here on this thread.

I'm having a funky, yucky, unsettled, don't know what's wrong with me day too Tori. I took a sick day from work b/c I was feeling a bit sick to my stomach and achy this morning. That went away, but I still feel not right. Taking a nap right now would be really nice, but I have a chicken in the oven. That's what I get for staying home... I have to make dinner! :-)
Prayers for you Tori. Chemo is just plain yucky. You've been so strong.
Paula - will pray for Aspasia. Poor thing.
Hood - yes, yes, yes to the Veterans!

Paula,
Do they have Hospice care in Toronto? Here in the States, they will consult in Nursing homes etc...I was immediately concerned when I heard her meds have not been changed since August. She clearly is not getting the care she needs, and no one ever has to suffer in pain. Frankly, it's not acceptable. Does she have an oncologist? Someone needs to be her advocate, and I just don't know how the system works there. Do you have any ideas? There is very little else that disturbs me more than leaving people in pain. Is she oriented?
I can do a little research on Hospice/Palliative Pain Management in Canada...

Theresa and Tori,
I had a ppppffftttt day at work myself, the three T's are at it again. Mine is nowhere like your chemo Tori, and I did make it to work. I'm sorry you both are facing it today, and I truly pray this evens out quickly. Theresa, may you have wonderful restorative rest, and I hope tomorrow is much better.
Tori,
I'm wondering if you were given Emend for you nausea? It does last for three days, and is quite a help. I would go right into the Zofran afterwards. There is nothing easy about it, and I want you to picture your head in the lap of Mary, her holding as your daughter. I pray for your Guardian Angel to stand by your side, to petition on your behalf for healing, and to minimize all of your side effects. You are a brave warrior, we hold you up.

Michelle ~ thanks for the prayers for Aspasia.
Traci ~ ditto to your prayers for Tori, Prayers and Theresa.
As for Aspasia, they (nursing home staffs) weren't treating her nicely. They're like that when they know family members don't care (lots of them are neglected). Or in Aspasia's case, she has NO ONE to visit her. I befriended her because my mom was at that nursing home for 2 months. We (all siblings) hated it and made every effort to move her out of that environment. You see it is social medicine there and it didn't matter whether you have $$$ or not. It has to go thru the system. My mom lucked out and was able to transfer when there was an opening at the Catholic nursing home, she was supposed to have first priority in the first place because we are Catholics but still needed to wait in line.
I pitied this lady and kept in touch with her through phone calls and writing letters. I made sure that I told her about my BC after my surgery and she was very attentive over the phone. She even told me that if in case she passes on that she will make sure someone at the nursing home will notify me.
I know that she has an oncologist and she used to have a nurse assistant bring her in a wheel chair bus. Not sure if she is coherent enough the past month to request to go for followup. When one does not have family there, one is reliant on the mercy of another to perform kind deeds. Very sad! That's why I'm praying that God will relief her of her pain and suffering or that he will send Angels to guide the people around her to pour out their hearts and take care of this lonely lady.
My phone call stopped at the nurses' station, there was no way to reach her in her room. I just want to let her know that I really cared about her :-(
p.s. There is another protocol, if the nursing home patient is too sick - then they should admit her to the hospital. That nusring home is attached to a hospital. Wonder if the people are not smart enough to send her to the hospital or what??? It doesn't make sense!

Paula,
I will be thinking about your dear friend today. Sheila, do you think we can do a little research to see how we can advocate for her? From any angle, such as wellness check, elderly abuse (and we know this is abuse!) who investigates Nursing homes? Geriatric specialists in conjunction with pain management and oncology?
Let talk later K? (all
Paula, how sweet for you all to befriend this woman. We always need to care for those around us.
and to share a message that was the core of Every Presbyterian Sermon....Do unto others, as you would have them do you."
May this be whispered into every person on her medical team today and from this day forward. I pray for Archangel Raphael to bring in his Angels.
Sheila, wonderful idea to add her to Tori's sister's list.
Tori, I hope you have a blessed day today.

Good morning sisters,
Thank you so much for saying prayers for me and Traci, for helping me to imagine being in the lap of our Mother Mary....it really comforted me to think about this....
Glad to be up and feeling "semi" okay this morning. Started having some tingling in 2 of my toes on my right foot and my right thumb...could this be the start of neuropathy? Any hints on how to curb this before it gets worse? Or is this just something that can't be helped?
Weather is holding up here in OK and it looks like it may still be in the 70's for a couple more days. I so enjoy walking outside, I hope this is the case. Gonna do my best to make it out and get a walk in and say my rosary. I'm moving slowly, but that is better than nothing, right?
Peace and prayers,
Tori
DE COLORES!

Tori: I iced my fingers and toes each time they administered taxotere and it really cut down on the neuropathy. I still ended up with some... still have some maybe in the balls of my feet, but maybe it's something else.
Boy I *wish* it was in the 70s here!! :-)
Yes, Traci, the three T's were at it again yesterday. I still woke up a bit funky, but am at work and moving along. Skip and I watched Moguls and Movie Stars last night. That was pretty interesting. Ahh, those innocent movie days. I remember my grandma telling me how much she liked Mary Pickford. It blows my mind thinking that was almost 100 years ago!!
Prayersareanswered: So happy you checked in! I'll say the Divine Mercy chaplet for you on Wednesday.
I hope everyone has a blessed day!

It sounds like a funky week for most everyone. Rosary time --
What are the three T's Squid and the new introduction of ppfffttt ... has a certain feel, sound, definition not needed-----good.
Paula send me your friends name and Nursing home by pm. I have an idea., but unlikely will be able to do anything with it until at least thurs night.
3MRI 's and bone scan tommorrow. For a really seemingly benign Pet my new Onc has me going ..........already had ct of neck.
PRA I added you to the intentions list as well as aspaise--
paula check and see if I spelled it right---How would you say that phoenetically? There was a USA study "That patients that have involved family members live longer" while we all new that emprically, It was proven by sceintific method.
Off here soon to see counselor. He has seminary training which is so good because he gets everything when it comes to my history (AND GREGS). It makes it simple.

Squid---how about ballerina leg warmmers,----The AJN article is worth a read, if you can locate it. They came up with a lot of positive things about teds. So, they didn't really debunk them, but produced some solid info that would prevent the complications of teds. Cannot remember if it jived at all with the doc article. REmember my excitement and trying to explain why it was good to Greg, but data's lost to the corners of my mind. Who knows when and if it will resurface.
Have you seen the sleeves that the atheletes are using. I tried to patent that x # years ago and the person that got the patent did it ONLY 14 months before me. YUG..... I came up with it in trying to take care of my mom to help prevent skin tears and keep dressings in place without tape. . My patent researcher was really funny, he was so happy and excited that it was only patented 14 months before. I thought that odd because no matter what , it wasn't me. Thats life:)

Hello sisters. I like saying that. I still have my brother, but my sister died from leukemia when I was 13 and have always missed not having a sister. But, now I have lots
Agree it has been a blah week. Went to onc & got prescriptions for 50,000 units of Vit D to try to get my Vit D levels up and Arimidex. Took the first Vit D tonite. Also got Dexa report and have osteoporosis - amazing to me because I don't feel anything wrong with my bones. No telling what Arimidex is going to do - so hope the Vit D works. It seems like it's a big enough dose for a horse! I think I'll wait until first of next week to start Arimidex. If I do both right off the bat and have some reaction, I wouldn't know from which. Plus I don't feel like fighting with my meds provider this week about getting brand v. generic. (Sorry if this is a repeat - don't remember if I posted all this already) At least the weather has been pretty and little warmer. I could get out and wash off the deck. I have a raccoon that has made a habit of raiding my bird feeder in the middle of the night - there are muddy little raccoon prints everywhere!
Raise our spirits Lord & help us carry this cross. I hope everyone had a better day today and will have a wonderful day full of JOY and PEACE tomorrow!! God bless.

Sheila: The Three T's = Tori, Traci, Theresa. The last time we acted up, all three of us injured ourselves on the same day.
0 -
Janet: that sounds like a good plan to space out your new meds/vitamins. I have to do the same thing since just about everything upsets my stomach. That *is* a lot of Vit D... your levels must have been really low. We'll see if my levels come up the next time my doc draws blood.
The weather *was* nicer today... it's supposed to stretch into the weekend too!! Holiday this Thursday!!!
I'm going to put my sister down in the prayer intentions page. She finally got the insurance worked out and will be going in for her MRI on Monday. I pray it's all good news.

Theresa --got it--except for the part about acting up. that could be interpreted has having to much of a good time and I know that hasn't been the case---no LOL
Janet---I was found to be d defient one year before BC dx. The endocrinologist doc said don't you ever go out in the sun? In Florida they have found quite high numbers of d deficiency and they coorelate to the fact we are trained to avoid UV ---we avoid the outdoors between 1000 and 5pm.
The first doe of 50,000 units was the most delicious felling I have ever had in my whole life. So, I try to use words to describe the feeling-----It was as if warm chocolate was melted all over my body inside and out. The dosing was once a day i think for a few days, then once a week for four weeks then once a week for 6 months then retest. AT that time I asked for how long, he said once a month for the rest of your life. Regretfully, I never had that same feeling as that first dose. It was as close to nirivanha as my imagination could think of. I even cheated each week by moving it up a day then each month by moving it up a week. I so wanted to feel that warmth again. Oh well. Someone might try to compare what I'm saying to the feeling of a narcotic. Not close.
There is controversy on where we should be level wise---25(30)-80 normal range. The controversy around range is in relationship to cancer. Last year my endocrine doc wouldn't even acknowledge what I was asking about the research suggesting higher levels. This year he was well versed. But he said if I was going to try and keep my d levels high, we had to check d level and kidney function every 3 months. You notice I didn't suggest a level. That is entirely on purpose. This is something you have to search out with your doc and perhaps some "evidence based research on vitamin d level and Cancer" on google. The research is in flux.
There is a vitami d thread on BCO, I haven't studied it, so I don't know as SQuid would say, if they are trying to practice medicine without a license
On the osteoporosis give me your age please? And I will tell you as story to help put it in perspective. L&H&PSheila
