Theresa  you are such a teacher. And all of the posts need such studying, but you are able to bring scripture , so readily to us . Was this something you were well versed in prior to your Fransican  travel or was it after? The chicken and the egg controversy so to speak. You and Skip were joined by your beliefs, through a catholic network.   Your contact through that network, you have previously shared brought the two of you together. Then there was the family discord that has been resolved by patience and a controlled response that has lead to a future unity of family. Why? Please , tell Us what you identified between you and Skip through that network, that caused you two to SEE  each other. When Skip Posted , it was clear that both of you were on the same track. Why this is important. So many people make the wrong choice in a partner. You two made a choice on line, and were successfull.

As a teenager about 17,  I made a  list of characteristics I wanted in a spouse. The list included things like kindness, generosity, treatment of me, treatment of others, manners etc. I wish so much I had the list today. Because--- it to me would be so interesting of what I valued then and what I value now. Each item was given a numerical value after I made the list. 4 to 1, if I couldn't give it at least a 1, it was off the list. Then each person I had ever dated, even if it was only once was scored  This is going to sound strange to alot of folks-even though I may have had a boyfriend, I dated outside of that relationship because I could date because of friendship. One of the guys who tried to push it farther than that and was rebuked said we all know that you don't put out. So, if I say I had 50 guys to put to my numerical test , that puts some perspective on it.

What I learned from the pen and paper test, top score was 40. The guy I thought I was in love with scored a 17, my best guy friend scored a 38. It was such a wake up call. After that I never put someone to the numerical test. But I was immediately aware of what I had 4 starred and 3 starred . If they weren't there, they either didn't get a date or didn't get a second date.

I believe the awareness of the list worked, in the sense that Greg and I were married for 38years. There are whole companies doing what I did, I did it in 1967, retrospectively I was a young. Who knew it would become an industry.

But Theresa tell us more about this Catholic thread where you met Skip. It dovetails into our beliefs and who knows, you two have found each other maybe others can too.

LMFSM:  Have you had symptoms or tests?  Let me try to find a prayer for your peace.

Sheila:  I nearly fell out of my chair reading your post!!  I did the exact same thing when I was a teenager... wrote a list of characteristics that I wanted to find in a husband!  Had I only stuck with that list, I would not have married my first husband.  Skip and I are traveling tomorrow, so if I get online I'll post about the former straphael.com site, which is now something else... I'll have to ask Skip.

    HI Betty and Sheila :)

No lists here, which I think was my downfall (LOL) But I sure would have more self esteem now than even a few years ago. A work in progress indeed.

    LMFSM,

How long have you been feeling this way? I am picturing you surrounded by Angels, hands clasped in an unbroken circle, with Archangel Raphael stnading next to you, healing you of all ills and worries. There is a prayer to Raphael I believe on the previous page? I'm so sorry you are having this fear, please let me know how I can help.

Thanks Squid, I love to picture sitting with Jesus, kind of like the pic of him surrounded by children.  My other comforting image is laying myhead in the Blessed Mothers lap and she is stroking my hair like my mom used to do

    LMFSM,

Just give it up like you are. You don't need to carry the fear. God has you, Mary holds you, Jesus carries you.

I get scared about Satan sometimes too, but you have all of the tools right inside you, and God's white light. If you are very scared, and it's o.k. to be..we are human :) then call on the Warring Angels. Ask them to come immediately to your side, and you will be protected.

    Squid,

I know for many the images of warfare and battles are ones that provide them with comfort.  Not so for me, even in the midst of chemo I never related to images of fighting the battle.  Maybe part of my denial, but I like to focus on the love and peace of our Lord, and the strength and gentleness of our Blessed Mother.

LMFSM:  I know anxiety well and I know it's fruitless to advise you to stop worrying b/c once that feeling gets ahold of you, it's hard to let it go.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).

"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God" (Psalm 42:5).

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones" (Proverbs 3:5-8).

"...the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:26-28).

Dear Jesus, awash Ellie in your love, lift her mental burden, all your will.

I just read about your Satan thing going on.... there was a movie called The Labyrinth with David Bowie and an actress I can't remember.  Anyway, my kids loved the movie.  The heroine was trying to go through this ridiculous labyrinth looking for her baby brother and David Bowie, the goblin king, was always thwarting her attempts -- she loved him she hated him.  One of the most powerful lines was her awakening to his "evil" ways and looking at him for what he was and saying "You have no power over me!" and the spell was broken.  That's the same with Satan.  As long as you have Jesus in your heart, he has absolutely no power over you.  None. Zip.  When ever you are in distress, "Jesus help me!" and He's there!  Peace to your sweet heart.

My little one is giving me "the furry eyeball," so we will journey for a bit. Talk to you all soon. LMFSM, I too love the thought of putting my head in Mary's lap and having her stroke my hair. I amy be 43, but somedays I just want to be a child, being mothered, without worries. It's healthy to seek that very comfort, and our minds can connect us instantly.

and Sheila, you bring so much to our gatherings...you need to hear that!

    alrighty! I'm off...for now.
