We have the same challenge in Canada. Everyone has become so politically correct that the word "Christmas" has almost become a four-letter word. In Toronto a number of years ago there was an uproar over the "Holiday Tree" at city hall. Seriously...a holiday tree!???! That said, I noticed while shopping this year that a lot more of the clerks wished me a Merry Christmas than other years. Maybe we're starting to get over it!

Sandy, sending up prayers for James.

    Gina, that's great news!

I had my first of 30 radiation treatments today. I'll be finished by end of January. Can't wait!!!

Love- we begin love at a  time, We believe in love at a time . We start to seek love at  a time, We start to accept love at a time. Then after acceptance we fear always-loss of love.

Hi Sagina, I visited San Antonio, it is a beautiful city, the river,  love the huge Supermarket that  sell groceries from all over.

At MDACC we tell our foreign patients that if they have to stay for Christmas , San Antonio is the place to be, they come back delighted.

Because I have PMR, it is hard to drive, but thanks for the invite!

    Day Seven

Our Lady, Ark of the Covenant, present our petitions to your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

    Amen.

Dear Mother Mary, you know our hearts, you understand suffering as you stood at the foot of the cross of your Son. Please relieve us of our suffering, physical, mental and spiritual. Present all of our cares and concerns to Jesus who raised the dead and cured the sick. Jesus could not bear to see suffering. In Jesus our brother we will find comfort and healing. Amen.

    Hello Sisters

Hope you are well. haven't been on line recently. nothing wrong just having few probs with internet connection at home - still not sorted- and been quite busy in the office.

had Herceptin dose #17 last Thursday (8th) and all went well as usual. No SEs.

You may remember that I told you about the operas coming live from the NY Met. There are 11 broadcast each season. For some mysterious reason there are 2 broadcast on successive Saturdays and the 2nd was last Saturday. Was great - Faust by Gounod. The dearest seat in the NY Met is over $400. It costs £20 (approx $30) here to have a perfect view with great sound in the cinema ! ! The performance which is broadcast is the matinee which is at 1 00pm in NY which is 6 00pm here. That morning I was on an organised walk with a local cancer group. it was along a river bank. The weather was very cold (cold relative to here) but dry and it was most enjoyable.

I have been taking part in the novena, the Memorare. As I am at least 5 hours ahead of most of you I'm probably the first one to say it each day ! ! Also because of the time difference when you are saying your evening prayers at 10 00pm that's 3 00am here and I'm in the land of Nod !

Now that the new wordings in the mass have been totally introduced are you all  happily "combustible with the father ! ! LOL"  Praying for all  who are on this cancer journey. Thank you lovemyfamilysomuch.

Michelle now that you are getting radiation therapy does that mean you will glow in the dark ! ! ! Be positive. Think of the electricity you will save - you will be able to read in bed without turning the light on LOL

    Take care all.

    Frank

Hi Frank!  Good to hear from you. Glad all is well.

I'm doing okay with most of the new mass words but I can't say "consubstantial" without tripping over it.  The other word the priest says that makes me shake my head is "oblation". We'll all be walking dictionaries before long!

I'm not glowing yet! If I do glow, I hope it's green or red to match the Christmas decor!

    Have a great day everyone!

    Hi all!

Good to see you Frank!  That's really cool about the NY Met.

Michelle - are you tolerating the radiation?  I had SAVI radiation (internal) and know that some people have a hard time with external radiation.  I'm not sure if I'd do SAVI again, but I haven't had any trouble so far!  What am I saying!  I am NOT going to have a need to have radiation again!!! :-)

I've lost track, but is anyone else going through treatment here?  I am on continuing Tamoxifen... one year down.

We've had a pretty mild winter so far, even though it's not officially winter yet.  I wore a sweater to work this morning instead of a coat.  I know this weather won't last very long, though.  I like getting out and walking, even though my legs and feet ache so much.  That's one side effect that the onc didn't tell me about ... the long term pain from chemo.

In addition to Christmas, our family has 4 birthdays in December and immediately in January we start with 4 birthdays, then the first week of February, we have 3.  Luckily, my grandchildren are all summer/fall babies and the new one that's on the way will be June!  My son was telling me about their doctor appt on Monday when they got to hear the heartbeat for the first time.  He said that he had a "moment" of, "Oh Lord, I'm going to have a child!" :-)  I think it's finally hitting him!  First sonogram will be January 9th!  I can't wait!

Have a wonderful day (and evening Frank!)

Theresa, so far the radiation is going okay but I've only had 3 of 30 treatments so it's early days yet. I've been feeling very tired for the last week or so but I think that's lingering effects of the chemo combined with the busyness of preparing for Christmas. On a positive note, I see some peach fuzz on my head ... I've been singing "All I want for Christmas is my hair to grow back" so I may get my wish! You are so right....you are NOT going to need radiation again!

Our weather has also been unseasonably mild. It looks like it's going to be a green Christmas in Southern Ontario this year. I don't mind the mild weather but I'm getting a bit tired of all the rain. Honestly, I'd prefer snow!

Oh All, So much sounds positive, our novena, and life going on for all. Please continue the novena for two more days ----selfish----I missed the first two days.

Pleases continue to pray for my twin, Sandy 105's nephew that has a serious burn, and all our sisters who may have not posted, but are here in spirit.

Remember Mary and Don McCall------parents of seven--------Mary's funeral was this week. She was an organist and pianist for the church since the late 50's. The told joy of her funeral. The music and singing. I always saw the glint in their eye towards each other, more so than my parents. Bless Them both and all their children. Mary was a apparently in the years since, I knew her a  real organizer, well leave it at that. She planned her funeral. She had brain surgery a year ago and had been on Medical Marijuana. As part of the Offertory, when the gifts were brought up, the last gift was her bong. The church was filled, they all knew, they all laughed. Mary would have never supported marijuana when I knew her. But her message was clear in this action. It helped her in this last year. May Mary and Don McCall sit at the right hand of God. May all their good works and kindnesses be recognized. May all their children grow from their works. May there singing voices always be heard, as Dons and Marys teaching of the love of singing reach the heavens. Amen

    Our Lady of the Snow

This title of Our Lady of the Snow originated as a result of a miracle of the snowfall that occurred during the night of August 4-5 in the year 358 A.D. on the site where a Basilica now stands.

According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared in a dream to two faithful Roman Christians, the patrician John and his wife, as well as to Pope Liberius (352-366), asking that a church be built in her honor on the site where snow would fall on the night of August 4-5. Pope Liberius traced the outlines of the church in the snow and the first basilica was built on that site. It was completed about a century later by Pope Sixtus III (432-440), after the Council of Ephesus in 431 A. D. at the time when Mary was declared to be the Mother of God.

I just love all of the titles our Church has for the Blessed Virgin Mary!  That website above is a good place that explains them.  Skip and I went on an SFO pilgrimage this past weekend to the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the Franciscan Monastery.  We should have just gone to one or the other then planned a separate trip for the other.  Such glorious beauty in both places, it's hard to take it all in!  I love the basilica with all of the alcoves dedicated to the various Marian devotions.  Mary always points us to her Son with prayer and penance.  Complete abandonment to Him.

Michelle - oh the peach fuzz!  I remember it well.  It's sooooo soft! :-)  My hair has long been back to normal (which I felt would never happen!) and I'm going to get a hair cut tonight after work.  Radiation will tire you, but so will the holidays!  Just take it one day at a time.  No stress!  All joy!  Maybe our Lady of the Snow will bring some white stuff to your area. ;-)

Sheila - and anyone else who missed some of the novena days, you can go back to Day One tomorrow and catch yourself up to your Day Nine!  I had a different Marian title each day.  Prayers for Mary and Don.

Yes they'll know we are Christians by our Love!

Sagina - love--------prayers for a good response----you have the strength to deal with anything ---you have shown this lovey. Namaste

msphil and KeepingFaith---I have been absent for awhile-------  Misphil your prayer is powerful. .Please both of you stay.  Please stay. As we grow through the cancer experience, there comes a time to pull away. To seek a normal life. As normal as it can get with the words cancer in our history's. We need people here that will carry on the Catholic and Ecumenical word--------that we are all joined. It is hard b/c so many of us are on the moving on point at this time.  The wonderful women that are here, but pop in from time to time such as me. DUH I just called myself wonderful------not meant. But for over a year, I belonged to a wonderful group that were all going through different time of BC. Beginning, middle and end.

We care, that our care for the Catholic be recognized, But we turn away no one of any religion. We learn from each other. We teach each other. We bring here a caring unknown to men sans Frank . He gets it. He is our friend from North Ireland. We would accept any man or husband of of a woman with BC.

We need lurking Catholics or people that have an ecumenical spirit for prayer to join us. This thread is different than other threads, We pray for those that need prayer, we do novenas.

Actually , I believe our strongest function is novenas. There is no other thread that does this.

So, as those of us that need to move on, we need to pass on to others the importance of this.

We have two threads that support our mission The prayer archives and the prayer intention.

Whats important about the prayer intention is that it not be a discussion area. When a novena is done someone takes responsibility to look at where we are in intentions, For example, Racy to intentions to Australia. We were able to say run off page 5-6. With anyone adding new intention and moving forward uncompleted intentions.

Prayer section :there are prayers that are standard to Catholic and then there are prayers written by members..Anyone can transfer a prayer to this section. We often offer a spontaneous prayer for someone, but that prayer may be  able to be used for another.

I will  add something in the next post that further explains, why people move on.

Develop a relationship with those that are here daily or weekly. But Please understand there is a time to move on. To each their own time. Namaste. sheila

I will add the explanation of Namaste.
