    Janet,

I will be very praying for you and I know you are in very good hands.  I will pray for an uneventful surgery, excellent Nursing, for your Surgeon's hands to be divinely guided, that your nodes be negative, and your healing be perfect.  Please ask your Nurses for what you need, and make sure you have excellent pain management. (many women just sail through this, so I am "that one" so that's why I say that :) I like your guardian Angels name too.  So we have Jimmy and Leslie so far.

I am wondering if there are some wonderful pre-surgery prayers anyone can share?

    Jan,

    You sound great!

    Squidwitch4 (Traci)

Thanks for asking about me.  I'm hanging in there. It's day 3 after my first treatment and aside from intestinal issues and feeling like I have the flu, I'm doing pretty well (Thanks be to God)

Was feeling a bit sorry for myself as I lay in bed last night, but quickly turned my thoughts to our Lord and his Son, Jesus who gave so much for all of us.

One day at a time right now...sometimes one hour at a time...and maybe even one minute at a time.

Peace, love and prayers for us all,

    Tori

Remember oh Most Gracious Virgin Mary,

That never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,

implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence I fly unto You. Oh Virgin of Virgins, my Mother.

To Thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

Oh Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in Your mercy hear and answer me.

    Amen

    St Michael the Archangel

    Defend us in battle.

Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray.

And do thou, oh Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God,

cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

    Amen

Tori: those are wonderful prayers for strength.  I well remember those chemo days when I had to endure one day, one hour, one minute at a time, especially 2 days after the Neulasta shot.  The torture!  I remember thinking of our suffering Christ and offering my suffering for others who were worse off than I was.... children with cancer, mothers with cancer, fathers with cancer...  But soon you'll be on the other side of treatment and bring encouragement to others who have to follow us.  I wish it wasn't so.

I remember praying this one a lot too:

Angel of God my guardian dear

To whom God's love commits me here

Ever this day (night) be at my side

To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen

Hi ladies - thought I'd pop in one last time before tomorrow as it will be early to bed for me tonight!  Have to up by 4am:(     I read your posts and your thoughts & prayers are SO appreciated!   Saw my surgeon for the final pre-op and I have great faith in her.  I was so relieved when she said if I needed the blue dye, it would be injected after I was under anesthesia.  So will only have to tolerate the isotope injection.  She said many times she can find the sentinal node(s) with a "geiger counter gadget" (forgot the name of it) and the blue dye may not be necessary.  She said she has also had great success with a small unit that dispenses local anesthesia over 5 days into the surgery site that virtually eliminates need for any narcotic pain killers.  (It only works w/surgeries without reconstruction.)  Although it is one more "drain like" apparatus to wear home and thus potential site for infection like drains, she highly recommends it.  I had not heard of that before, so have to think about it a little more.

I always liked Clarence, George Bailey's guardian angel, in "It's a Wonderful Life."  I think I'll name my angel Claire :)   God bless.

    Janet,

Adding my prayers for you tomorrow.  Negative nodes, smooth sailing throughout.  May you feel the Lord's peace and comfort with you as you turn it over to your surgeon.  May your surgeon and medical team be guided by Divine hands, and Claire by your side the whole way.  I hope this local pain device will be great for you, and we look forwards to hearing from you when you can.

    Peace be with you,

    Traci

    Tori,

Bless you, it is not easy.  It is o.k. to feel all feelings about chemo. Rest assured, Jesus and the Virgin Mary hear your petitions and are by your side.  If you need help, ask for it.  If you want to blow off some steam, we are here.  I hope you will feel better real soon, you will get through this.

    Blessings,

    Traci

Sistas,  Just received this story and wanted to pass it on....Peace and prayers, Tori

The Ant and the Contact Lens

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens. 'Great', she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.' She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there.

She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse 'The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.'

She thought, 'Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.'

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, 'Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?'

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, 'Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You.'I think it would do all of us some good to say, 'God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will.'"God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called."Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him... I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

Great story...reminds me of a lot of our sermons growing up.  Stories about life, that reference God's work.

and I too totally dig "God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called."

Amen to all our prayers for JanetinVA and Torigirl.  I want to extend my well wishes and prayer for Janet and Tori.

And Jan, one week post surgery - how are you feeling?

Traci, Laura, Apple, Pag, Theresa, mmm, Betty - how are all you guys?  I pray for a great week for all of you!

Traci, thanks for thinking about me.  I will be seeing my surgeon tomorrow (they had already closed my file until 10 days ago with my infection.  The antibiotics have been finished and no visual sign of infection, however, there is a 2 mm diameter solid mass right inside the duct and you can feel it.  It is tender to the touch too.  I would say that it is the same identical thing just prior to it giving out pus.  And yes, I'm worried that they left a small cancer cell there or it could be a new one triggered from the surgery.  I will bring my MRI films (done prior to surgery) for them to look at.

I may have to postpone my PET scan on Thursday.

    Good night all.

I like the names you gave your angel.

    Hello Claire, hello Jimmy!

    mmm5,

thanks for asking :) well...honestly, I think I am operating from a place of rebellion (against myself.) I don't have the best coping mechanisms, and I am still choosing the nicorette over peace.  I'm glad for the inquiries, the nudges to wake up! So thank you for your caring.  I have things I am upset about, and I am just "self medicating." I have had my tissue expanders in for 11 months.  I have to wait another 6 months before I get my..silicone replacements.  I just spent two minutes trying to remember what those are called.  Still don't know. Now I am upset I can't find the right words :) So I get lots of super hugs every day, and I have to be careful not to get hugged too tightly, or it hurts. Then I think what I must have felt like to the other person.

I am also upset about my weight...I have lost 20 lbs, and I still get told I am "getting bigger, I am fat" by my patients.  It does not come from a bad place..it is even considered a compliment (many different cultures.) But I feel fat, and upset about my body.  So there I go shoving nicorette into my cakehole.  or food. But today I have my therapy appointment, so you have brought this up at a perfect time for me to be real about it, and have a safe place to go work it out.

Whew!  I didn't know I had all of that in there.  So I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers, concern and nudges.

Have a wonderful day Sisters, and I will come back renewed later.

    (Implants! they are called Implants!)

    Love you all,

    Traci
