    Good evening ladies,

We are being drenched in Virginia.

    Monika - Welcome!

Paula - I'm praying for your good PET report!

Sheila - what a wonderful story. I have a daughter and a son (both married now) and both had tough times seeing so many loved ones in our family die of cancer.  My son became hard and unruly for awhile, left the faith.  Slowly, I've seen him come around and I credit a lot to his stable wife.  He's becoming a "good man", is a good husband and low and behold, lessons taught to him as a child are coming back to reap their rewards.  I'm very proud of him.  I keep praying that he will come back to the faith and am confident that he will.  He said that he wants to raise his children Catholic.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that sometimes boys internalize things more so than girls.  My daughter talks to me all the time about EVERYTHING.  Boys churn things around and around.  Traci is right, talk to him if he's open to it, pray for him, he sounds like a wonderful son and I'm sure he will process all the crappy things that have happened to him just fine.

Geez, I didn't mean to go on like that.

Thank you for prayers for my grandson.  He's back to his old self today. :-)   Today's emergency was waking up to our dog who had another allergic reaction to something ... her face was all swollen and she had hives over her body.  This is the second time in about a month.  We gave her benedryl again but my daughter took her into the vets as soon as they opened and they kept her for the day.  She's 100% back to normal tonight.  We have no idea what's causing this.  She's such a love bug.

Tori: I'm going to look at that video tomorrow.  I'm at a hotel wifi tonight and don't have sound.  If it's Elvis, it HAS to have sound.  I love Elvis.

Prayers for you all.  Sorry I'm so long winded tonight.

    Peace and all good. -Theresa

    Theresa,

Long winded is good!  yes, we are getting drenched aren't we?  It's worse out in VA I think.  Sorry to hear about your love bug!  My kiddo was sick for the first year after I adopted her, and I asked the Vet to do an allergy panel.  He said it is the worst he has ever seen...I say it's like she has been dropped off from another planet.  Now with the IAMS recall, we have been having a tough week.  She is on Flagyl while I try to switch her diet...she was on kangaroo and oat. She is allergic to all fillers, corn, potato, lamb, rabbit, beef, chicken...(wellI think you get the point.)

I don't know how long you have had your bug, and not sure if there is anything in the environment that's seasonal right now.  I saw an article on stink bugs recently. I also have a friend whose dog swelled up the same way as yours after being bit by a bee.  I suggested they ask for an epi pen for dogs (if they exist) or benedryl suppositories (if they exist?) to have just in case.  I sincerely hope this is the last for you baby, and not sure if there are Angels for our animals.  But I certainly pray for my kiddo.

Prayers for our little animals, our perfect companions who demonstrate unconditional love and have perfect souls.  Please keep them safe, and healthy Lord, as they are an important part of our lives and our healing.

    Good evening Sistas,

Thank you all (Traci, Ellie, Janet, Theresa, Monika, Laura, Betty, Tori, Jan, Sas, MMm5, Apple) for praying and thinking about me.  I had my PET scan this afternoon, they injected the radioactive stuff in me and I went to the donut.  The gal was nice enough to listen to me, initially it was supposed to be from head to mid thigh.  I told her that I'm starting to get some pain in my left knee so she scanned lower.  I am itching a little at my wrist, hopefully it is not a reaction from the dye.  I am feeling stressed awaiting the results which should come on Monday.  I will aslo be getting another Rad simulation on Monday morning and I think they will start my rads on Tuesday.  BS gave me the green light to start rads.  I was baffled last night as I repeated what he said "he couldn't feel the little bead like lump by the oil gland" and I didn't insist that he try touching again.  And I kick myself for that.  Argghhh!

Sas, congratulations on your son.  I would like to reassure you that Greg was there and he knows.

Most of all, I'd like to share this from the Bible :)

"I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.  He drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.  He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.  Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.  Happy are those who make the Lord their trust, who do not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods.  You have multiplied, O Lord, my God, your wonderous deeds and your thoughts towards us; none can compare with you.  Were I to proclaim and tell of them, they would be more than can be counted."  Psalm 40:1-5

I was raised in a Catholic school taking bible studies.  But as you may already know, a lot of the students do not pay attention with Religious Studies.  I was one of them, therefore I am a newbie trying to learn to read the Bible.   I shall pray and ask for guidance.

I will also pray for each and everyone of us sistas on this thread that what ever your worries and burden and disease be lifted.  I would like to ask for prayer for a Clear, No Cancer PET result.  I am worried and terrified.  Lord I ask you to ease my fears and take away any disease that's lurking inside my body.  Amen!

    Paula,

Absolutely praying for negative PET scan. Do you have a plan for Monday to see your Onc? It will be hard, yes, to not be stressed. Kind of like saying don't breathe. Try and turn it over to God to handle. Ask for Jesus to carry you this weekend, one set of footprints. Let us know how we can help, K?

And prayers for Dear Jeannine, bless you. We are asking for St. Peregrine, Agatha, Jude and Archangel Raphael to swiftly go to Jeannine's side. To aid in her healing, to give her peace, and let her feel the warmth of God's love.

Sisters, for tomorrow's prayer night, I would like to request specific healing prayers for Jeannine. Thank you mmm5 for the reminders of ALL of our Sisters. Jeannine, I apologize for not putting your name out there daily.  I will get better at daily prayers.

    Much Love,

    Traci

Paula, we are with you honey!    Dear Mary, hold Paula's hand this weekend and reassure her.  We pray her PET scan is completely CLEAR and that Jesus is working through her doctors to heal her.

Laura, have a great time in Vegas.  Have one for us while you're there!  ummm...a gingerale that is:)  Tell us all about it when you get back!

All in all, recovery going OK.  I lay down to rest and the next thing I know it's two hours later!  Been running a low-grade fever - just enough to know it's there (99 or so).  But nurse said that's fairly common for many people after surgery.  Still on antibiotics so I don't think it's an infection.  Drain uncomfortable.  My surgeon is of the 'old school' and prefers I don't shower.  I'm going to see if my daughter can help me shampoo this weekend in the sink.  That should be interesting:)

    Hi Janet,

I wanted to weigh in on the elevated temp.  There is a body response after surgeries that can lend to "low grade fevers." The body releases cytokines after controlled trauma (my term for surgery.) By all means, be vigilant, do take your temperature, anything 101 or greater does require further investigation. May mean nothing, but again, better to be on top of everything. Do take nice deep breaths every hour, with attention to expanding your lungs. I was going to point the finger at atelectasis, a normal lung finding after anesthesia, but appears they have gone away from that theory as a cause for elevated temp.  That's debatable. Atelectasis is really nothing more than a little consolidation in the lung bases in the alveoli. Hence the deep breathing. An incentive spirometer used to be standard fare after surgery, although the crappy nursing care I got after my surgery (bitter, I sound bitter!) meant I didn't get mine. So nice deep breaths 10 x and hour while awake.

Do look at the quality of the fluid in your drains, if it changes to cloudy or thicker, it may indicate infection.  Pain will come along with infection. I had been cooking a cellulitis for awhile, and had quite a bit of pain in one side that took off running one day. Pain Pain, verses post surgical discomfort...pain not easily eradicated by pain meds.

So I hope this relieves some of the anxiety that may be present regarding your temp. You are on antibiotics so should be covered well.

Hang in there Janet, your body has been through a lot, so keep taking those naps and....keep your fluids going :)

Have a good day, and hope you are starting to dry out from the rain.

Thanks Traci!  They never explained 'why' a low-grade fever - just that some have it.   We really needed the rain but yesterday was ridiculous.  It's funny, I had been watering azaleas & such like mad before surgery because the ground has been SO dry and still in the 90s.  I prayed that God would take care of watering things while I couldn't!!  He really came through! :)  What did we get - 7 inches or something?!!Sun finally came out & I'm glad it's October.  Ready for some fall weather.

Happy October!  The other saint who has made my walk with me is St. Therese of Lisieux.  I made a novena to her in the days before my biopsy - OK, I flunked it, but the point is that in the midst of going through treatment, etc. I made so many new friends and experienced such amazing care and LOVE - and doing things with love was what she was all about, so she just interceded for me and my prayers were answeredin ad different way.

(Plus, her mother succumbed to breast cancer, so I figured that would get her "riled up" enough to pray for me!)

Now, if I can find time to say my rosary (that's this month, too)!

    Good afternoon sistas,

Early this morning, my late friend appeared in my dream, then I got a call real early this morning (7:55am) and I saw my primary doctor's name,  then I thought, oh-O, must be so bad that they called this early.  Both my husband and I are waiting for test results.  I braced myself and took the call.

Well, it was for me and my PC received my PET scan result this morning, Praise Lord Jesus, it was all CLEAR.  I was told the report will be ready on Monday, and my prayers has been answered.  I cried Happy tears and still tearing up writing this to report to you all.  I want to thank you for holding my hand, praying along side with me and being so supportive.  Thank you sooo much.

Janet, when I saw my BS last Wednesday, I was again given explanation about my 99-100 degree low grade temp.  Things to rule out like Traci had said.  If it isn't infection, it is really due to the body going through surgery (they did some radical cuts in there) and the body is healing itself.  I'm 8 weeks post surgery and am still getting the low grade temp on and off.  I'm actually starting to get a little pain here and there by the L breast too.  That's all because it is trying to heal and the doc said, depends on the size of breast (mine is very small), larger breasts can take up to 1 to 2 years to heal (even though it looks fine on the outside, the inside is still fixing itself).  It is also this chronic low temp that got me all paranoid in the first place.  But I'm truly glad that I can move on now and not let it bother me anymore.

With the PET scan, they injected me with the radioactive liquid which looks exactly like the anti-freeze solution.  My brain is running like it's got anti-freeze and not thinking very well.  I also started little arthritic pain here and there too.  And oh, btw, I will get my 2nd simulation this coming Monday morning, most likely they will start my rads on Tuesday.

Serena, I don't remember if you've posted here before but I want to welcome you.

You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wonderous deeds and your thoughts towards us; none can compare with you.  Were I to proclaim and tell of them, they would be more than can be counted."  Psalm 40:1-5

SUPER Fantastic Paula!!!  I know you must be on Cloud 9!  Now you can really let peace settle over you.

Janet: you sound really good.  That's encouraging.  Keep resting and doing what the good ladies here suggest and your good doctors and you'll be dancing the jig again in no time.

Traci: Thank you for being so kind.  Miss Lucy, my lovebug (Pit-Beagle), is all better.  I pray to St. Francis for the animals. :-)  I think if she breaks out again, I might ask her vet to do an allergy profile to see what it is she's reacting to.  Thanks for the advice.

Serena: I guess I didn't know St. Therese's mother died of breast cancer!!   And she's my patron saint!  Shame on me.  Everyday I go to http://www.universalis.com/ and read the daily readings as part of my liturgy of the hours.  Of course, as Serena said, today is St. Therese's feast day.  They wrote a longer biography about her on the website today, but I thought this was especially comforting and relates to a lot of what we have been discussing here lately:

Thérèse's "Little Way" means taking God at his word and letting his love for us wash away our sins and imperfections. When a priest told her that her falling asleep during prayer was due to a want of fervour and fidelity and she should be desolate over it, she wrote "I am not desolate. I remember that little children are just as pleasing to their parents when they are asleep as when they are awake."

We can't all hug lepers or go off and become missionaries and martyrs. But we all do have daily opportunities of grace. Some of them may be too small to see, but the more we love God, the more we will see them. If we can't advance to Heaven in giant strides, we can do it in tiny little steps. Our weakness is no excuse for mediocrity.

It's been a long and difficult week, but I plan on staying up for our 10:00 prayer.  I need it!

    -Theresa

Sisters, I just tripped over this and thought I'd share it with you.  Tomorrow, October 2, is the Feast of Guardian Angels!  Below is a little prayer to say to your guardian angel tomorrow from catholic.org.  There are many more prayers on the website.  (I was actually trying to find another Catholic website, but couldn't remember the name of it.)

Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here, ever this day (or night) be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

Paula Great new on your scan, it is like you get second chance at life Thank you God. Thats how I feel anyway when I get good news after the stress of a scan or a test.

I have been praying for Jeannine, every night because I knew she needed pray.  Lord please stand by Jeannine in her time of need in Jesus name.

These are two of my favorite scriptures that carried me in my times of need.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not onto thine own understanding.  prov 3-5

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 tim1-7

I will be here at 10 O'Clock, in 20 min to join in pray with all of you.

    Prayer for Healing

Jesus, you are my deliverer, the true physician who comes all the way from heaven to visit the sick.  I put myself into your hands.  Help me to resolve to put all my trust in you alone and to patiently undergo any treatment.   If you will not heal me, my Savior, my case is beyond hope.  But if I am to be healed, it is you, Lord, who will heal me.   You alone uproot the sickness and give me lasting health.  You are my salvation and life, my comfort and glory, my hope in this world and my crown in the world to come.  Amen.

Prayer to Saint Peregrine for Remission of Cancer

Saint Peregrine, you left a life of comfort to dedicate yourself to the salvation of all peoples.  You endured the most painful sufferings with such patience that you were healed miraculously.  With a touch of the divine hand, your incurable leg wound disappeared.

Obtain for us, Dear Saint, the grace of resignation to our present suffering with cancer.  Enkindle in our hearts perfect resignation to what God has in store for us.  But, if it is in God's plan, deliver us, through your intercession with our crucified Lord and our sorrowful Mother, from this sickness that is afflicting our bodies.  If this is not possible, enable us to merit everlasting glory in paradise.  Amen.
