What do you want first? My serious good news or the stupid headline i saw this morning?
Passed my final test (the pouchogram--OUCH!) and am cleared for definite surgery on Oct., 17th. You all are invited. My surgeon scolded me a little this morning for not doing the full monty of my chemo. I mentioned that to the nurse later at the OV, and she must have told him because he then appologized. I instantly forgave him because this guy probably saved my life. I told him that I'd give him a hug for that, but I am waiting to make sure I wake up from this upcoming surgery and then I'll give him two hugs.
O.K., now what kind of headline is this: Marriage May Be Better Than Chemotherapy
It MAY be? What? Does it depend on the husband? I kind of hate when they take these pseudo-scientific findings and try to be cute when they write it up. On the other hand, how 'bout this quote..."For prostate, breast, colorectal, esophageal and head/neck cancers, the survival benefit associated with marriage was larger than the published survival benefit of chemotherapy,” Damn! Why didn't I just get into some Mormon polygamy and skip my chemo altogether???? If only I had known!!!!!

Way to go Elimar! Graduating at the top of the class again. So proud of you. I will be marking the 17th on my calendar so that I am sure to be with you on the big day.
Perhaps oncs can double as a justice of the peace and offer marriage services as a option for treatment. Sheesh - really?

Eli, love the moon lady topper, and your goodnews! The headline on the other hand sucked!
Heading to bed, then heading to Vegas tomorrow early AM to meet up withthe BCO group of TaTas ... 50 some of us! I've met exactly one in person...yikes!
Will truly think of all of you while I'm there. Hugs0 -
Oct. 17th ~ marked on my calendar.

Eli, glad to hear the good news. I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 17th as well (check-up, not surgery), so I will be sure to remember you.
As for the marriage thing, for it to work for us, I think we need to introduce polyandry and specify that the men be cowboys with cute bottoms. If I had 5-6 cowboys to wait on me and keep me busy, I would have no time for cancer.

marlegal - have a fantastic trip! They say "What happens in Vegas......" but you are safe to share some of the less incriminating moments with us here. Can't wait to hear how it went.
momine - maybe we could do our own study. Name it "Cowboys vs Chemo"

That's why I like to come here. It is such a validation that, even with B/C, your sensibilities can remain intact. Don't anyone forget that.

eli, great news, here's to passing the pouchagram!!!!!!!

"momine - maybe we could do our own study. Name it "Cowboys vs Chemo""
Ha! Definitely!

Congratulations, Eli~. That is such good news.
I have further questions and statements regarding marriage being better than chemo. (Since I was single whilst going through mine and I still survived.)
- If marriage is better than chemo, then why do married women even get BC?
- For marriage to work better, do you have to get married as the tx?
- Isn't just about anything better than chemo (The headline said nothing about "curing" cancer.)
- Is chocolate cake better than chemo? I think so!
0 -
Oh the possibilities for studies are endless............ chocolate vs chemo........cookies vs chemo..........wine vs chemo etc, etc.
One more question on the marriage vs chemo - if you are married upon diagnosis and then become separated or divorced before tx ends, are you still ahead of the game?

A lot of us think so. Once again, Meece, you have hit the nail on the head.
Now for something informational, not necessarily to scoff at, like that last article:
I haven't taken a look, but I have a feeling that a similar amt. is coming out of my husbands paycheck each month, so these prices should not be too unsettling. Bummer if you live in WY or MS but, if you stay living there, you will make it back once you hit retirement age, as those states are among the most tax-friendly to seniors.
Thanks, everyone, for shouting hooray for me moving ahead and becoming whole (well, close to it anyway) again!
Who knew this was such a cowboy lovin' group?

WAIT! Don't close! I'm here, I'm here!
Where is everybody? Probably enjoying the beautiful fall weather... I wish I was, but the good news is I've finished my continuing ed courses. The bad news is that the site has not given me credit yet which means I'll be on the phone tomorrow and sure enough, come skidding in the last few minutes to renew my license... sigh, I was trying to avoid that familiar scenario.
Good news about the Obamacare prices! I've heard scary stories but always figure they are the exception rather than the rule. I usually choose the "wait and see" route - I have found it conserves a lot of energy.
I bet Marlegal is having a great time in Las Vegas - or Lost Wages as my step-dad used to call it, haha.
So barsco, I can finally join you studying some honky tonk bedonky donk!
For today's lesson...
Wait... did we consider cowboy vs chemo?

HNS - congrats on finishing up your courses. Must be a relief. Now you get to study what you want to! I never get tired of looking at cowboys! sigh....

When I looked in over the weekend, there were no posts in a 49 hour period, so it felt like we were "closed" for the weekend. I admit to being busy also, using this three week window before surgery to tackle some things that I will not feel like doing (or be able to do during my recovery time.) After that, I want to turn my attention to the holidays and use my energies for that, so it's now or never for some of the tedious chores I have been putting off.
I was scheduled to see my MO this week, supposedly to talk about my CT. But I already went over it with my surgeon, and I am really against all the "doubling up" with the team of doctors. I told the MO staff I was on hiatus from them, focusing on my surgery (and you know I will get the pre-admission blood work, so what is there for them to do really?) and so they sensibly scheduled me for November.
Some of you might like the ultra-close monitoring, but I like a little room to breathe. They are all supposed to be sharing info. anyway.
