Why is there a category for 40 - 60?? Isn't the traditional medical split at age 50...those who are diagnosed before 50/generally pre menopausal, and those diagnosed after 50 generally post menopausal. Broadly speaking. Isn't it because the prognosis and cancer specifics ARE different? Just curious on the etymology, if you will, of the why 40 -60 lumped together.

Eli, glad that got taken care of and hope nothing hits the radar for a long long time.

Diana, you need to let us know when you'll take more mail orders!

Jessica- I am 52 and stage IV so I guess I was middle-age at 25. That explains why I got some white hairs in my 20's. For those of us who have had chemo menopause starts about 3 weeks into it. I hope like hell that I will reach the 60(ish).Either way this thread and these ladies have been here for me and I don't think anyone on this thread cares about age. We are all here for the same reason. We will be here for you as well.

Jessica, the age range for the board is not based on cancer stats. The idea is that people in the same age range are likely to have things in common, apart from the stupid cancer.

As for the menopause stuff, I was pre-menopausal when DXed at age 47. My last period ever started the same day I got my second chemo (of 8). Once I was done with chemo, I had my ovaries and most of my uterus surgically removed and started taking femara. Result? Super-double-plus menopause ;) Without the cancer, I would probably have been close to 60 before my periods stopped.

Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada was awesome. We enjoyed some late season warmth and sunshine, spent time with family/friends and ate lots of turkey/goodies.

Dianarose - nipples for Christmas? I bet Santa has never seen that on a wish list - lol. Sounds like your brother is a great support. Congrats on the first mail order!

jessica749, Like it says up top, when I came to this website, there was a "young" thread and an "older" thread, and some Mids were in the "older" but I did not feel represented there and felt a "middle" was missing. I didn't start this one to be divisive, no more than something like the IDC thread or TN is, anyway. You are right in that the stats kind of divide B/C young and old at age 50, Then again, it is at age 40 when we begin the annual mammogram thing, and when we can start to have major hormonal changes (unrelated to chemo, I mean) so this is as likely an age group as any. I guess the short answer would be that this is a thread for women to relate socially and chronologically, who, by the way, have cancer. You know, women who might have eaten Quisp or Quake cereal but also may have an MP3 player, plus are no strangers to the hot flash.

Loral, Nothing personal to your brother. I'm sure he could have fixed my shower in only 7 and 1/2 hours. (Winky-wink.) In the economic climate of Michigan, a person is darn fortunate to be working in ANY field. Even lawyers.

Dianarose, What a generous offer from your brother. Of course, being able to say you got your sister a set of nip tatts for Xmas IS priceless.

Dianarose, that is too cool about the bro offering to pay for the nipple tats! It actually sounds like something my brother would offer me if the need was there. My mom posthumously gave me my eyebrow tats last year for my birthday. Tattoos, the gift that gives everyday!

You ladies are a blast! I was laughing so hard I almost fell on my chair! My kids (26/28) were asking how I was doing and when I mentioned I have a crispy nipple we decided during Breast Cancer Awareness month there should be and appetizer on menus called tatter-tatas or tatter-tits. The money for this appetizer would be donated to breast cancer research. I hope you aren't offended but we got a good laugh out of it.

Eli...Yes, the union couldn't find brother plumber a plumbing job after the place he worked went out of business about 5 years ago, so he now drives a school bus. Plumbing is a side job... Sign of the times in MI.

Eph- I need eyebrow tats too at some point. Only some of them came back after chemo. Drawing them on is getting old. Did it hurt and how long did it take. The tat guy said it would take about 40 minutes each nip. I am so excited.

Cakes- very funny about the tatter-tits on a menu. I told my brother I could put a cup out at my shop that said Tips for Nips.

Tips for Nips...too funny! (Insert missing smiley here.)

I am sure my hair thinned a bit during chemo, but it was not even noticeable to others. However, my brows thinned to half, I lost a lot of eyelashes which was very noticeable, and had hardly no armpit hair all summer (liked that!) The lashes are coming back and I have hopes for my brows. They don't look raggedy, just 50% thinner all over. I have bangs that mostly cover them for now.

Jessica, I think the others already gave good explanations about the reason for a 40-60 group, I'd just add that I think the 50 line gets more and more blurred each passing year unfortunately. We seem to see more and more young women joining the ranks. No matter where the mid line falls with tine of diagnosis though, women of a certain age will always be women of a certain age! Stick around for some laughs in the midst of our other life struggles, which include cancer.

    Cakes, love the menu ideas!

Eli, I'm wondering what to bring to Thursday's party...thinking light is the way to go. Perhaps a few airy silver dollar pancakes? Easy to transport for the crowd I'm sure will be along with me :)

Eli - wanted to send my best wishes for an easy surgery on Thursday. I love this site, even if I don't post much because I'm over the age limit (ha ha). Although my son did get me an MP3 when I started chemo this year so I sort of qualify? Anyway, I'll be thinking of you.

Dianarose, unlike my other 9 tattos, the permanent make-up artist numbed by brow bone so although the tats did sting & burn some it didn't hurt, hurt! It took approx 90 minutes all told. I've been told you need touch-ups every 3 yrs or so due to fading from sun, etc. but so far, so good. (but it's only been a year)

Thanks for all the well wishes. I will try my best to be an overachiever once again and get out of that hospital a.s.a.p. (or sooner!)

You all are going to torture me with pics of tasty morsels...my prep is a liquid diet today. Don't know how quickly I will get back to eating solids, but I am pretty sure that the first meals they send my way will not be big on "presentation," and no doubt have a -12 star Michelin rating.

I did gain about 4 lbs. in the two months PFC, but am still a lower weight than when the surgeon initially carved me up in March. I don't recommend this weight loss method to anyone. Within days of my surgery, I should quickly gain about 2-3 extra pounds. Not going to elaborate, but think about it a minute and you will figure that out.

You ladies crack me up with Tips for Nips and mapping out a route home for Eli that contains an outhouse, just in case.

Eli - will be jumping in tomorrow also - wishing you smooth sailing and a quick recovery. I am sure you will excel as a patient once again.

This is the best I could do for you Eli - You can have your salad and drink it too!

Well darn it - the pictures I want won't show on my post. It was a can of liquid named "Salad Water". Thought it would be something that wouldn't make you crave too much of what you can't have Eli.
