Had an errand to do this morning, so I walked. Came home and did housework that took most of the morning.

I went to an afternoon class called 'Strength' so I'd be home for the Trick-er-Treaters. It was an hour of weights, hard!!

ruth-thanks. I just locked my front gate. We had over 150 trick or treaters tonight. My neighbor is OCD and she kept a head count. It was fun. I am exhausted. You and your husband have been in my thoughts. Your sister in law's unexpected death touched us deeply.

Thanks Jo. My SIL never had much, lost her husband at an early age etc.; but she was always calm, caring, upbeat, appreciative, and really enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. In that she has left a priceless legacy.

My little dog friends are getting worn out running up and down the stairs barking at the trick-er-treaters. I'll leave the porch light on until about 9:30 because I am glad to give big kids candy too. Happy

I miss the days when we had lots of little kids out trick or treating...The past few years we hardly get any, 10 maybe 12....some big kids who were very polite and then the cutie little ones...I turned my light off at 8 as I didn't see anyone out side. I bought 2 bags of Laffy Taffy and didn't even use a whole bag.

I'm taking 2 professional development classes after work - they each meet 4 times - and you get paid a bonus...today was supposedly the deadline to sign up....when this morning the system was down....then I spent a couple hours trying to sign up using all 3 different browsers at work and then again at home tonight with my home computer. I'm so frustrated. The classes have already met, so not going to drop them, but it would be nice to get the bonus the end of the year - actually next fall. Oh well.....

    Sweet dreams

Had 25 kids come for candy. Last year we only had 10.

    Workout planned for today.

Pat: You are a good sister. Please let us know how your visit was.

Jo: Your yard looks so spooky! I know all the kids loved trick-or-treating at your house.

Ruth: Such a pretty sunrise picture.

Walked/ran early yesterday to get ready for Halloween night. We had around 80 or so kids. All very cute in their costumes and very polite.

Good news to report on the family front - arrived at his house and let myself in, heard him on the phone upstairs talking medical stuff, so started making tea and he heard me, came downstairs and gave me a big smile. He can be a very stubborn old man, likes to be in control, and felt his away kids were being too overprotective. He was perfectly lucid, gave me a chronology of what happened since I saw him in hospital last Friday, complete with throwing his kids out of the house, etc. I did not challenge him on obvious inconsistencies (like losing hospital instructions in the printer!), since my prime purpose was to assess his condition and address the pill taking issue. He said yesterday was the first day he felt he had focus, so he had called his doctors to make follow up appointments, read through his medication instructions, and filled his pill case. And would start taking his pills at dinnertime (I believed him). So all in all he looked like hell, but he was definitely on top of things, I am so very relieved. Texted all his away kids so they would be relieved too. As they pointed out, being a sister rather than a daughter is a very different relationship, and I can say things to him that they can't or risk making him mad.

But 4 hours on the road and a 3 hour visit yesterday, so no walking :( - but it was worth it! Beautiful day today, but in lieu of walking I am doing physical chores (closing up the fish pond, stacking fire wood (DH cuts and splits and puts in the woodshed, I keep the porch wood stocked), and he just asked me to help him with taking down a couple of trees this afternoon (I winch them while he cuts so they fall a certain way). A couple of years ago we had terrible caterpillar infestation, so now many of the oaks around our house and yard have died, and they need to come down in a controlled way instead of willy nilly in a storm. We hire guys to cut ones near power lines and our house, but the ones further away DH does himself.

Pat, I am so glad that you had a good, productive visit with your brother.

I went to Zumba this morning & stayed for Bone Builders (a seniors class). I figured it would be a good way to stretch out as I was SO sore after that Strength class yesterday.

I'm going to a rally tonight for the senatorial candidate that I desperately want to win......against long odds.

    Don't forget to vote!

ruth- I have actively volunteered for 3 candidates running for office in Miami-Dade County. Regardless of your party affiliation, please vote.

Pat- I'm glad your visit with your brother went well. I've always found family Dynamics fascinating. No parent wants their children telling them what to do and no child wants their parent telling them what to do. Siblings is a good middle place ; once you reach a certain age.

One hour at the gym - treadmill, snow shoe thing, stairs and bike. - Still no arms. Finally broke down and bought new earphones for music. Man that makes it fun! The stairs kick my butt. I can only do 10 minutes but a little easier each week. The exercise is really improving my water retention and swelling in my legs. It was an issue before DX but seriously exacerbated by Taxotere I think.

Rachel....improving the water retention in your legs is too modest a goal. What about going for killer legs? I am able to rock things like a leather mini skirt and tight jeans.

Yesterday didn't have an official "walk" but I did banking (2 banks) on foot and then took the long route to the supermarket for milk, so got in 3.5 miles total walking. Today, I am doing a custom revived during my recent London trip. My friend and I are starting and ending at the brewery with a long walk for dog in the off leash area in between. Dogs are permitted in breweries as legally retail outlets, so this works just fine. Similar to a walk I did in the Chilterns with my friend and her two dogs.

I will bring a change of footwear as it promises to be wet. I am also picking up my bicycle today as need to get some riding in over the weekend.

One thing I will say about London. No need for a stair machine as the typical Underground ride includes something like 10 flights of stairs plus at least half a mile of walking. And guess how you get to the top of a double-decker bus? People there are thinner as a general rule, despite pastry shops being absolutely everywhere. (My favorite type of holiday: eat pastry, lose weight.)

Speaking of exercise, I have a call coming up and I need to do my crunches first. New exercise ball is less slithery, so easier to balance. So glad it's Friday as I am ready for this weekend. Soup is on the agenda....just need to decide if it should be chicken or onion as have the fixings for both. - Claire

Only 10 weeks out from chemo and six weeks out from exchange surgery. Plan to be strong again. I came into treatment very strong. I'm letting myself heal and making sure I get enough rest as I've started work three weeks ago and it's intense - no room for chemo brain. I'm at the gym 5 days a week for an hour. I feel like a teenager again, getting used to the new bod I see in the mirror. I'm getting my mojo back. The more I'm at the gym the more sharp and energetic I feel.

    You are doing great, Rachel!

I walked the puppies this morning and went to Aqua Zumba. I'll do another dog walk and try to get to Yoga before the day is over. DS gets home late tonight so my doggie sitting is coming to an end.

Nothing much to report, except that I've been consistent about getting to the gym five days a week, and physical therapy twice a week. I can definitely feel an improvement after two weeks of PT, so I think we're on the right track.

We finally have fall here, much later than normal. The colors are more muted than usual, but still pretty.

Since there's so much Civil War history around here, DH and I have started taking advantage of the programs offered at the various sites. Last weekend we visited a farm that was used as a hospital during the battle at Antietam. The guide was excellent and we learned a lot about Civil War medicine. For instance, it was during the war that triage was firstadopted as a standard procedure for prioritizing treatment of battle casualties. Also, contrary to what I'd always thought, anesthesia was widely used - over 95% of surgeries were done under ether, laudanum, or other opioid pain killers. But even with those advances, medicine was still crude. Amputations were a first resort of treatment for wounds, and mercury and lead potions were still widely used to treat almost everything. Makes me glad I live with today's modern medicine

Mary - turned in our ballots yesterday

Fallen off the train with walking...not a good week.....and for some reason the lack of steps hasn't motivated me. Tomorrow and Sunday I'll get a few good walks and hopefully with the lighter mornings, get back on track.

    Rachel - you are awesome.

    Sweet dreams.....

Pat- I am glad you got to see your brother for yourself and get an idea of how he’s doing.

I have gotten to the gym most days this week. I joined a new exercise group called women on weights. We are learning how to safely use hand weights and incorporate them into a workout. The squats and lunges are killer. We meet once a week and then do two more days on our own. On the off days, I have done Zumba, walking on the treadmill and the arc trainer.

We had no trick or treaters. I don’t buy candy until the night before and only bought a small amount of things that are less tempting for me.

I have been sick for a week now so my exercise app shows 1 active minute for the week. Pitiful. Still not well so I wont be catching up any today. This one has been a killer. For the first time ever we did not pass out Halloween candy. I could not do it and no one needs my germs.

Pat glad you found your brother coherent when you got there. I had a head injury and it is spooky how you dont remember things for a few days.

Our early voting is not in a convenient location so I will stand with my family and neighbors to vote on Tuesday, even if I am still sick. I like that tradition anyway.

Turned my clocks back before I went to bed last night....it was 10:45 but now they said 9:45, so it seemed like I was going to be so early. But I couldn't keep my eyes open. Of course my body clock is not on standard time yet...so besides my normal waking up during the night, I was up at 5!! Not getting up at 5 on a Sunday......so I've been lazy for the past several hours...its getting close to 9:20 am and I haven't done anything but be lazy. Time to shower and get busy. Lots of work to do for my class.....oh and steps and more steps.

    Have a great Sunday.

Edit.....the only clock that I did not change last night was my watch, so it isn't as late as I thought!!!
