octo- New Mexico cold is my kind of cold. We hit the low 80s with high humidity here in Miami today. My 5K this morning kicked my butt. I love all the winter photos. I wouldn't want to live in it but it is beautiful to look at

I personally don't understand why anyone would want to sit on a beach when it's possible to go skiing. This is from last Sunday. Of course, there were people blazing by me as this is where biathlon training and trials take place. I got to ski a trail that is just to the right and it was such fun. First time doing the entire trail in years.

    image

I had planned on skiing today but consoled myself with a 10k run. I am now off to Seattle to spend my holiday gift cards while they still have some winter items on their racks.

Tomorrow is the Tunnel Ride which will be about 25 miles of riding. Hoping for cloudy as opposed to rainy. Rainy is far too much like the Chilly Hilly 3 years ago which was so miserable that I ended up laughing.

Wednesday, I head out for the Methow Valley for 4 days of glorious skiing. Because it is colder this year, conditions will be POWDER!!! Life doesn't get better than that. My birthday is next Saturday, so wanting to pick out the right spot to celebrate.

Amazing sense of well-being when one gets enough exercise. Happy 10 years, Patoo! - Claire

claire- your pictures are stunning. I'm a water baby. You have to be incredibly fit to ski the way you do. Super impressive. I went to Utah in April for an OT conference. This season was officially over. The day we arrived lo and behold Shino came pouring down. So my mom and I decided to go up into the mountains just to observe the snow. We were greeted with thousands of skiers all playing hooky from work because the ski season has been sketchy at best. It was such a beautiful experience with snow covered mountains. The views were breathtaking and the skiers were so happy and pumped for good snow. It was a very cold day for us but it was a memorable one.

I'm a beach girl myself; but Claire makes a very convincing argument for the ski slopes!

I went to yoga this morning & did a little treadmill tonight. In between, I zoomed around doing errands & stocking up on groceries. We are in a Winter Storm Warning starting at noon tomorrow. Sigh!!!!

I do love snow and being out in it whether it be XX skiing or the little bit of snowboarding I have done or just walking in it. I think my ideal life would be to live in the Rockies two months of winter and a great beach and snorkeling island the rest of the year. For me, snorkeling is the most magical thing on earth you can do.

We have another warm day so another walk around the lake. I’m not that interested in the super bowl since none of my teams got in, but since I have squares I will probably watch to see if I win any money.

Left the cold, snow and ice behind in 2015 for a good reason - hated it! Snow in the mountains is, to me, best enjoyed with a glass of wine, some cheese and crackers, sitting by the window looking out from a toasty indoors.

Got to new gym yesterday and did treadmill for 30 mins then took a class for an hour. Waiting for my private club tour to get familiar, again, with all the machines, and learn about all the classes. Lots of classes but have to gradually work up to many of them. Looking forward to trying, again, Spin.

No exercise today. Church, then prepared snacks for a SuperBowl party later. I'm not even a football fan but, hey, it's a party! It's the only game I watch all year and I tend to root for the underdog since I never know either team and makes for more fun as other partiers boo when I cheer. But, haven't been thrown out yet.

    karen1956, congrats on 13!

octo, what's the weather in October in Santa Fe?

Santa Fe in October is beautiful: you have gorgeous fall colors, LOTS of sun (there is a reason they do the balloon fest in Albuquerque then: little chance of wind or rain). The week you all are coming we would expect average highs between 68 and 71, lows around 38 to 39. In other words, perfect hiking weather!

Today was supposed to rain, but it never materialized, though it appears to be snowing up in the higher mountains. Here in town it is about 50 and partly cloudy, so I went for a long hike to match the long hike hubby and I did around the neighborhood yesterday...Now to settle in and pretend to watch the game. :-)

Speaking of Santa Fe; if you are interested in the Exercise Thread's Annual Road Trip and/or have some questions, be sure to PM me. We need a final head count by MARCH 30.

    When? October 10-16, 2019

What? We are planning to stay at an AirB&B and rent a vehicle. We'll spend a day at the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. Another day some of us are going to take a balloon ride ourselves. We'll do some hiking, check out museums & other local points of interest, shop a little, and eat lots of yummy food.

Why? We always have a great time & it is awesome to meet the ''real' people behind the avatars.

I went to POUND & yoga this afternoon & did some weights on my own. It's starting to snow & blow pretty hard. I am supposed to sub tomorrow for someone who has an out-of-town dental appointment so I am wondering what the morning will bring!

Did the Tunnel Ride today which miraculously didn't feature rain. Just temps ~40F, but I was dressed. Treated myself to Eggs Benedict afterwards. Snowing now, but I think this is a fabulous omen for my ski trip. Very sad saying farewell to the Viaduct.

Will post pictures later. Right now, I am focused on my pot roast which I thought was perfect snowy evening fare. I may not survive the amazing aroma. Need to prepare potatoes as well as some veggies I found in the fridge that need to be used NOW.

As indulgent as today's eats are, suspect far healthier than what most of the country consumed.

Eggs Benedict were at a farm-to-table place and a bit pricey. But I like to support anyone who is trying to do a restaurant plus raise the bulk of the ingredients. Just delish. Next meat purchase will be in the Methow Valley. Amazing local fare. Have cleared space in the freezer to have room. Major feasting ahead. - Claire

Ran 5 miles today. Its been a rough few days. My dear friend with IBC is back in the hospital. She is heavily sedated but no pain. When I finish work tomorrow I will go back and visit. She wanted me to sit with her today even though she couldn't remain awake. I stood by her bed and held her hand and watched her sleep for almost an hour. She woke up told me she loved me,thanked me for staying with her and taking care of her beloved dog Bella and asked me to come back tomorrow. She is such a wonderful person. My nephew is still waiting for his test results from Mayo. I will continue to focus on the positive. The weather is beautiful and I am catching up on paperwork. Patriots won the Super Bowl. Go Pats

Hey all - prodigal daughter checking in here :)

Up until the past few weeks I've been faithful with my three 90 minute workouts a week. Early in January I apparently over-did it in one of my weight lifting classes, result being rotator cuff pain in both shoulders ever since. I start physical therapy next week for a month and while I'm avoiding upper body workouts for the time being my intent is to get on the treadmill before work most weekdays to do a 3-mile walk each day. May mix it up with stationery bike a couple times a week.

That all being said I did 3 miles on the treadmill this morning.

    Love to all!

Jo: I know your friend is so thankful for you and your presence.

Sweet: Yikes on your rotator cuff pain - and in both shoulders no less! Makes my shoulders hurt just thinking about it.

Hi All! Jumping right back in with posting (it's been awhile). Been staying active with walking, clearing a wooded lot, trimming my blueberry bushes. Walked/ran today in a delightful 68 degrees.

Hi all. Jo, sorry for your friend. Hopefully she will pull through this setback. Prayers up for your nephew's results. Sweet, careful. Thanks octo for clarifying the weather.

Only 4 games pickleball today. Should have gone to the gym as well to get rid of the 3 lbs I put on from the superbowl party.

Jo, you are being a true blessing to your friend. Let us know what your nephew finds out.

Great to 'see' you, Sweet. Yeouch on the shoulders!

School started two hours late, so at least it was daylight when we plowed through the new snow. It is also very cold. Sigh! I'm subbing again tomorrow and there is a possibility of another storm on Wednesday Shocked.

I went to Zumba this evening & am now trying to convince myself to do a toning DVD.

I did visit my friend in the hospital this evening but she slept most of the time. She only wants reassurance her beloved Bella is ok. Now I'm going to meditate and try to go to bed by midnight. Good luck tomorrow and driving to school

I have been away and not doing much exercise in the cold and snow from Friday till Sunday. Got back to watch the Patriots win.

Karen I am in Waterloo, an hour from Toronto and Ancaster.

Yesterday was so warm it was amazing but with all the melting the side walks were a mess. I went for a 4k walk/run on an indoor track and ended up hurting my foot ugh. I pushed myself so I would have something to post here haha. Today is warm again but not as warm. I have to rest my foot but will be doing Yoga tonight with a video.

Love the Pics, Ruth the dogs are beautiful, I have two dogs as well, they keep me going. Claire the winter scene is lovely.

Yesterday felt like spring! After weeks of snow and rain the sun finally showed up and showed out! I spent the entire afternoon outside working in the yard. Which added up to over 24,000 steps and no telling how many squats! I raked the yard and tried to be easy on my LE side. (I HATE how it rules my life!) Love all the pictures! The granddogs are adorable! Congratulations Karen and Pat!

I love all the seasons (good thing because we can have all 4 in one week, right Wonderland?) This winter I have had a difficult time with the cold. It usually does not bother me but this year I can't get warm!

Likewise, I was busy all day so no 'real' exercise today. Promise myself will get better as need to drop the 3 lbs I got eating during the superbowl. Vargadoll, we only have 2 seasons here, winter (which for our northern buddies is more like spring with temps 36-45 degrees at night) and summer which starts in May and goes until November.

Claire, 10K is a lot of consolation! Woohoo! Welcome back, Sweet. Sorry about your friend, Jo, hoping for a quick recovery and fingers crossed for your  nephew.

Ran 2.5K and did weights yesterday. Salsa tonight and tomorrow as making up for missed classes. Just finished pilates/yoga on a Swiss ball.

Okay, had the momentary meltdown at my annual diagnostic mammogram this morning...very grateful to have come out the other side with a clear reading, return in one year.

Upon arrival the tech wanted to convince me to do a screening mammo and not a diagnostic mammo and I said my MO is insistent that I do the diagnostic...

After the standard shots (regular and 3D) were taken, I wait for the Radiologist to read them...well, she wants more views, ugh, but even more grateful I was insistent on the diagnostic. In fact 3 more views both regular and 3D, ugh. The next 30 minutes of waiting for the reading...10 years.

Then the good news, there wasn't a suspicious spot but a place that was denser and needed extra imaging and squishing to get a clear view, but it was clear.

I almost started writing this group while I sat in the little room...knew you would all understand.

Okay, off to yoga later today, happy Wednesday. TT

I do want to share an inspiring story. There's an gentleman, a Vietnam Veteran, who was extremely overweight and had used a walker or wheelchair to get around for years. When the new community fitness center opened a year ago, he joined and started walking in the pool, then started to take water aerobics classes. He has lost quite a bit of weight and this morning, for the first time, he walked a lap around the track! His water aerobics teacher was there to cheer him on, and one of our ladies (who does lots of water classes) has befriended him so she shared his story with us, and we cheered him on too. Pretty awesome what can be done when you commit to something (and find yourself a good support system).
