Hi, everyone! I haven't posted for a while, but I do drop in sometimes to see how everyone is doing, and I am amazed always at your strength and resilience and your determination not to let anything get in the way of being your best selves. That really helps me get moving when I don't particularly feel like it, so thanks to all of you for being good role models for someone who, left to her own devices, would probably spend too much time baking cookies and not enough time working off those cookie calories.
I'm coming up on the first anniversary of my diagnosis and on the whole, I think I'm doing pretty well. I'm still clumsy and slow (thanks to my chemo neuropathy), and I still don't have as much strength and stamina as I would like, but I am making progress. I can jog a little now without looking like I'm about to fall over, and even better, I can sit a trot on my horse Rosie with confidence that I'm not going to fall off. Fun fact: to a pedometer or a fitness tracker, a step is a step is a step. Therefore, if you are wearing one when riding, you can get credit for a LOT of steps. I am shameless enough to take advantage of that.
Today is a cold day in the Denver area, although not as bad as North Dakota! After clearing the driveway and the sidewalk with my trusty little Toro snowblower – I would usually shovel with only an inch or two on the ground, but the Toro is faster – I went over to the stable to check on Rosie and give her some carrots and an apple. She has a good winter coat, shelter from wind and wet weather, and plenty of hay to keep her internal furnace going, so she does fine in cold weather and actually likes it better than heat. It's us humans, with our almost hairless bodies, who have trouble with the cold. I was reminded of that as I stood in front of her pen watching her devour her treats. Even though I wasn't standing there more than five minutes, my toes were already sending up distress signals from inside my boots! So I think I will get my exercise today indoors, perhaps putting in some time on my exercise bike before doing some work with weights or my exercise ball. I might even do some of those "nice squats" that my trainer recommends so highly. And there is always vacuuming, which I guess counts as exercise of a sort . . . but I think squats are preferable to vacuuming. Actually, almost anything is preferable to vacuuming in my world.
Stay warm,everyone!

RockyMountaingirl - congrats on 1 year

Happy Birthday, Ruth!

Thanks, Mickey!
Congratulations, Rocky! I think some cookies are okay when it's so cold. Think of all the calories we are burning off by shivering (that's my story and I'm sticking to i! )

Happy birthday, Ruth! And I like your thinking regarding cookies. Your reasoning is very sound.

Happy Birthday, Ruth! Wow, it sounds like brutal temps there.
Rockymountaingirl- congrats on a year anniversary. Sounds like you are making great progress.
We got 16 inches of snow last night. Spent 90 minutes shoveling while DH used the snowblower and then went to my Zumba class followed by a strength train together class. Total of 210 minutes according to my Fitbit. I may not be able to walk tomorrow..

I went to Zumba & am now going to force myself to do a toning DVD.

started using stairs at work. Without doing anything lost 2 pounds in a month. Swam for about an hour in the community pool which is not heated. Gotta love Florida weather.

Hi all...
I spent the weekend at Disneyland with my kids and grandkids...it poured rain on Saturday, but that didn't stop us: about six or seven miles of walking each day, plus lots of stairs! We had a blast!
Back to the work grind and packing boxes for my upcoming move today...
Oh, got a fitbit for my birthday (last week) and a purple one at that...looking forward to figuring it out.

45 minutes on treadmill and 20 minutes of weights. I'm tired.

octogirl-Happy Belated Birthday.
Castigame- I moan and groan about having to run during the summer time because it's so bloody hot in Miami. Our winter weather is wonderful. I wore running shorts and a tank top for my evening run. Today was in the high 80s. I look at the snow pictures posted by the ladies from North Dakota, Connecticut, Washington, Massachusetts, Illinois, ETC. I can't fathom driving, working and exercising in that kind of weather. It was really cool seeing some of the ladies skiing abd sledding. The backcountry pictures were stunning.

I went to POUND, cleaned the house, and did an hour long toning DVD.

I woke up to 54 degree weather. Its already in the 60s and sunny. I'm going to try to sneak into an office building today to practice my stair climbing. Saturday morning is the big day. 49 flights of stairs. I think I will be okay though. Have a great day

Hi All - it's been a long time since I posted here! I usually post on the "Steam Room for Anger" thread - as I guess I'm usually pretty angry. LOL
Still working-out like crazy - though. Doing GRIT Plyo, Turbo-Kick and other HIIT classes. Plus, lots of burpees on my own (I actually really love to do them!)0 -
dancingelizabeth-nice to hear from you again. You have quite a workout. I powerwalked 4.5 miles tonight. Nice cool weather 70s and windy.

Last call for the Exercise Thread's Annual Road Trip. If you are interested or have some questions, send me a PM. We need a final headcount by MARCH 30.
Where? Santa Fe
When? October 10-16, 2019
What? We are planning to stay at an AirB&B and rent a vehicle. We'll spend a day at the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. Another day some of us are going to take a balloon ride ourselves. We'll do some hiking, check out museums & other local points of interest, shop a little, and eat lots of yummy food.
Why? We always have a great time & it is awesome to meet the ''real' people behind the avatars.

Here's the Wednesday Walking Women getting ready to cheer on the boy's basketball team in the state tournament. Besides walking and horsing around, I also went to Lunch Barre & Dance2Fit.

DancingElizabeth: Great to see you again! Wonderful workouts.
Ruth: Love the picture and congratulations to your basketball team!
We had a fresh, crisp day - high of 44. One lady said that when she walked outside from her work to go to lunch she thought she was walking out into the Alaskan Frontier. I think this will get a good laugh from many of you, except Jo and Castigame of course!
Walked/ran under a beautiful blue sky.

Ruth-love the pics of the Women's Walking Group.

Thanks for the warm welcome-back!
Jo - that sounds like a great walk! Nice work!!
Wonderland - LOL about the “Alaskan Frontier”! I’m from the Northern CA Bay Area and we are pretty much spoiled when it comes to weather! 40’s makes us want to climb in bed and hibernate!
Ruth - you always have very inspirational pics!!
As for me - did GRIT Plyo HIIT class tonight! Man was it hard!! Awesome instructor! Pushed us hard, but in a gentle way - it was very sweaty, very hard - yet relaxing and soothing - at the same time....❤️this workout!!!!

Zumba & some ab work this morning. Our State Basketball Tournament starts later today. Since we are sick of driving back & forth and there is a Winter Storm Watch on for the weekend, but we really want to attend; we have gotten a hotel room & will go over, go to all the games, and get back when we get back (a perk of retirement). So exercise the next couple days will be running up and down bleachers.

ruth-Enjoy the basketball games.
My view from my walk. I power walked 6.25 miles this afternoon and 1.5 miles were on the beach. Beautiful afternoon. It was nice finishing work early today.

Jo - beautiful view
Ruth - good luck to your team
I'm totally not looking forward to the time change - I just wish they would pick one - either standard or daylight savings - I actually like the length of day right before the time change - so now it will be light longer at night, but will be dark when I leave for work - 3 days/week till mid April, I need to leave by 6:50!!
Two more weeks till spring break, and I'm ready!!!
Still not walking before work or at lunch, but DH and I are walking when I get home and then after dinner. Been getting 12-14K/day which is better than the previous few weeks. Also getting 3K or 4K at school going to get kids.

Gorgeous pics, Jo!

octogirl- it's tough to exercise when your stomach is off kilter.

Runnermum must have eagle eyes, because she spotted me across the crowded arena and came over for a visit (her team played after mine and we had stayed to watch). Since we didn't play against each other; I am happy to report that my team won, and sad to report that her team didn't.
