So glad my eagle eye spotted you Ruth!

Hi everyone! So fun to see Ruth last night and catch up for a bit! She looks great and always fun to chat with her! They have an awesome team and cheering for them. Especially tonight when they play the winner of our game!

Sill running, although this winter has been brutal. Snow, brutal cold, cold, ice, snow, brutal cold, ice...a never ending cycle. Sidewalks and paths are snowcovered or icy. The intersections and corners have high snowpiles from the plows. So dangerous out there this year. I haven't ran outside in weeks and I miss it terribly. Very happy I renewed my gym membership last fall...has been nice to go to the classes and have other options when I just can't look at the treadmill or run another lap on track. Spring needs to hurry up and get here. A long winter for so many of us this year!

Ruth good luck the rest of weekend and safe travels. Hoping to get a few miles in on hotel treadmill today before our game!

We are staying in a cheapo hotel (we just decided to stay over instead of driving back and forth at the last minute) that doesn't even have a gym, so I did some stretching in the room and walked up & down the halls for 15 minutes. We are now watching our college play basketball in their National Tournament on the computer (they are not doing well).

runnermum and ruth- you guys have had a brutal winter. Enjoy your basketball games. Ruth congratson your team winning. Runnermum- there's always another game probably not until next season though. Just to make you guys miserable, it is 78 degrees and slightly Breezy with beautiful blue skies and sunshine. Spring is around the corner for you guys.

Haven't checked in here in a while. We left our home in RI in mid January, and have been traveling around in our camper ever since. Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and now finally back in Texas making our way back East and home. Tomorrow we head to Big Bend National Park for a few days. This is our first big trip with the trailer, and though we figured we would be exercising like crazy with bike rides and hikes, the reality is you spend a lot of time on your butt in the car getting from place to place. I brought along a set of exercise videos on CD, which played fine at home on the computer, but for some reason refuse to play while on the road. So my exercise is a few stretches, squats, etc., with some nice infrequent hikes thrown in. Another month on the road for us, and I swear when I get back I will hit the gym faithfully LOL. We have intermittent internet on the road, but will try to check in periodically.

My last full day in Barcelona...here for the week of Spring Break.  While no formal exercise, Mr Fitbit says I have had between 10k and 15k steps each day and between 30 - 100 minutes of activity each day...so hope that will offset the wine and cheese festival that happens each night!

Weather has been nice for early March...highs of 59-62 and it is never below 50...so can't complain given what is happening back home.  Fly through JKF on Sunday enroute to VA, so hope the weather holds off of NYC. TT

I just completed 38 flights of stairs for the American Lung Association. It took me 9 minutes. Last year at this time I was receiving my second chemo treatment. A lot has happened in a year. My time is slower. I feel great. Now I have to go home and shower and get ready for work. Tonight I will probably collapse. LOL

Stomach is all better....some type of food poisoning, I suspect....

and it snowed just a bit last night, unexpectedly. Not much snow, just enough to dust everything with a fresh bit of white and make it pretty....so, I am heading out for a long walk through the neighborhood to enjoy what may be the last of winter (it is about 28 degrees outside right now, but will warm up quickly, as the sun is out.) Going to check out the new fitbit and start figuring it out. It may snow a bit again here next week, but I will be in Vegas most of the week for a conference and will miss it. Planning to take full advantage of the big pool at the conference hotel!

Other than walking, much of my exercise this weekend will be packing boxes to take to the new house...Move date early April! Yay!

Morning Sports Report: Runners team went into the consolation bracket and won yesterday afternoon (I went over, watched, and visited for awhile). They are in the Consolation Championship this afternoon. My team played a real nail biter that went right down to the buzzer. We scratched out a 3 point win and are in the Championship game tonight. That's the good news. The bad news is that we're in the middle of a winter storm.....it's snowing like crazy and only supposed to get worse. I'm glad we have a hotel room for tonight and HOPE we will be able to get home tomorrow.

This morning I walked around the hotel halls for half an hour and did some random toning exercises.

Here's my friend, Linda, in a goofy hat which is supposed to represent a bluejay's feathers (the name of our team is the Bluejays). I'm posting this picture because Wonderland has met Linda at my sister's; so cool to have interconnections!

I have a question about when people started exercise after mastectomy. I  had bilatarial mastectomy 4 weeks ago today. I was told not to exercise for 6 weeks. At 2 weeks I started doing the ones posted on Sloan Kettering Website that said you could start day after. I was in a lot of pain so I stopped. My range of motion is very limited and I also have swelling above below stich line & under arms it is very hard, tight feeling and very uncomfortable. Is there a location on this forum that I could get some advice & others experience is this normal? Thank you!

cheryl- it's different for each of us. I was walking two to three miles within eight days after my bilateral mastectomy. I did wall climbing exercises and pendulum exercises. There are so many factors involved. I would speak to the surgeon and ask him what you should be doing. You seem to be experiencing more side effects which would warrant more caution. Be careful.

Thank you I have been walking but my skin gets very irritated by any type garment, I've tried Masthead cami, loose t shirt naked works but don't have a place for that. I've tried lidocaine cream so I don't feel the sensation but has not helped. I have a appointment with a breast surgeon on Wed a general surgeon did the mastectomy all we had where I live. I restarted ROM exercises last night & will go slow.

    great job Jo!

Cheryl, I would have your dr referr you to a PT who can guide you re: exercise and your specific situation.

4 weeks out I just did a lot of walking!

Welcome CherylFl. Isn't it crazy how being told not to do something, makes you want to do it (even if it is something you wouldn't care to do otherwise).

Well, our basketball team DID win the State Tournament, the first time we've won in 26 years. We were undefeated at 27-0, becoming only the 4th boy's team in North Dakota history to win every game of their season. I attribute a lot of their success to their young coach who stresses hard work and TEAM work. It was fun to be a part of it all as a fan. We drove home on bad roads, shoveled the 8 inches of new snow in the driveway, and went to a Pep Rally to welcome the team back to town. Now I'm going to walk on the treadmill for just a little while, maybe do a toning DVD, and then crash.

    DH & I & the Bluejay mascot.

Go Bluejays!! Glad you and hubby got home safe and sound, Ruth.

Today I walked and then packed and hauled a lot of boxes and some clothes to the new house, then unpacked some of them. Good upper body workout! Met our neighbor who lives across the street (which is actually about three city blocks away since we are on a large lot), who was very friendly and nice, and scoped out the neighborhood a bit. I figured out the best way to get from our house to the long bike path that runs through our new neighborhood (and goes to the community pool, which needless to say I am really looking forward to checking out come summer). I can bike for miles; the only problem is that the first three or four blocks are on dirt or gravel. Thinking about turning in my street bike for a mountain bike.....

    Dear Octogirl,

You will soon learn how to negotiate gravel on your road bike. Give it a go prior to making any decisions.

I am back from all my travels. Did an amazing ski yesterday and a hike today. Was surprised at the amount of snow for the second. Off to bed now, and NO, I don't want year-round daylight savings time. That would put sunrise at 9a here in Seattle in December.

Busy week ahead. Should be a lot warmer towards the end of the week, so spring must indeed be on its way. - Claire

It's been a crazy busy 2 weeks! I think I'm caught up now! Our cute cat Bernie had a stroke last Saturday morning. DH rushed him to the ER Pet Vet about 15 minutes from our house. It was "touch and go" for about 24 hours. The immediate affects of the stroke left Bernie blind completely in the left eye and limited vision in the right and he had left side weakness. Today Bernie is almost 100% better. He has his vision back and is climbing on counters again! I was pretty much home bound watching the cat! I did get my rebounding and DVD'S done!

Today I have been BY MYSELF! That's a rare (very rare) happening! Got to do my hour long workout, all the housework, laundry, taxes and take a shower without an audience or interruption! It also gave me a chance to catch up here!

That's a miracle cat, Vargadoll! Glad everything is all right again with Bernie. Welcome back, Claire! Cheryl, if necessary your doctor can prescribe physical therapy. I found this very helpful. Octogirl, a mountain bike has more resistance on roads than a road bike. It'll be more of a workout but not necessarily what you may be looking for. I've only tried a road bike once so am by no means an expert.

Yesterday ran 3K on the treadmill and did weights. I also got DH to join my gym. Zumba on YouTube today. Maybe a kettlebell workout tomorrow, Also having my yoga group at home tomorrow.

I meant to tell Cheryl to get a PT eval to! I had a lumpectomy and that's exactly how my truncal LE started. I had no idea that you could have LE in your trunk!
