Glad Bernie is okay! My little grandpuppy, Stella, is doctoring. Something is definitely wrong & they can't seem to figure out what. DS is bringing her back in again tomorrow. Of course, we pet people love those furbabies so much!
I ended up subbing today in a very, very naughty 6th grade class. I did it as a personal favor to the secretary who was scrambling for subs because lots of teachers were at a workshop. The teacher I subbed for is young & has very different ideas about discipline than I (ie he has none!). Argh, not a fun day! I came home, went to Dance2Fit, came home again to find the snowplow had gone by and blocked in the driveway, so then spent 45 minutes shoveling (I am so counting that as exercise has my Fitbit said I got 4,000 steps out of the ordeal). Okay, I am now going to sit here for awhile and do nothing!!

Ruth, I am working with a 6th grade teacher right now who doesn’t think classroom management is a priority, either. It is very frustrating as we exchange students. I don’t understand how they get through the day. I quickly learned as a new teacher that it is self preservation to have good classroom management or otherwise you go home exhausted every day. The students prefer structure, as well.0

Of course they prefer structure! Without it no, it's no fun for anyone....kids or teachers. This guy doesn't even have a seating chart. Yikes!!!!

vargadoll- so glad to hear Bernie is recuperating from his stroke.
Ruth- I do not envy substitute teachers at all. I, too, believe structure is important in a classroom. Without it, thers's chaos. There are certain classes which involves the arts whereas structure is less important or defined differently. Teachers are wonderful. They work hard and deserve more money for their work.

Vargadoll my surgeon would not prescribe PT so that's why I started looking online for suggestions I even showed him the exercises from Sloan Kettering website and he said not to do them till after 6 weeks!!
I will look up but what is truncal LE, my ribs hurt, my stomach is swollen & by evening looks like I'm 8 months pregnant. My arms are not swollen but I have many pockets of swelling both hard as a rock and soft on chest and arm pit. Is this truncal LE???? I can wear a loose t shirt that does not touch skin but anything else feels like sandpaper. I need to be able to wear clothes and don't want to be on meds.

CherylFL- OMG!! That makes me so mad that he would not do a referral for a PT eval! Anyone who has had any lymph nodes removed is at risk for LE. I only had 3 (he thought he had 2 but one was hiding) and I have stage 2/3 LE. LE is a little different in each person. I had a lumpectomy and my boob was swollen twice the size of the untouched boob. I also had a pocket of fluid in my arm pit. I swell in my ribs as well. I STRONGLY recommend anyone having a lymph node biopsy get a PT eval BEFORE surgery and one AFTER. The before gives a good baseline and if there is any swelling after surgery in can be noted and correct guidelines can be given. I found out to late that I didn't need a referral for PT. (SMDH!) I could havery gone before surgery and after but had no clue! To be honest I didn't fully understand LE (which is a little embarrassing to me because I have a degree in OT but early intervention and Peds is my strong areas) and had no clue that's why my boob was so huge. I was 6 weeks out from surgery and still had to use a pillow under my seat belt if I was driving. (Not as a passenger the belt was over the other boob) it wasn't until I had cording that I was sent to PT and what a smack in the face to be told I habe LE especially since I was told it was unlikely I would get LE since I was have a SNB. There are some great threads in here for LE. The ladies on there are amazing! There's also a really good Web site for information and many of the ladies on BCO helped (or did it all I'm not sure) set it up. I will try to post the link here so you will have it.

cheryl- I am an OTR. I would strongly recommend either a PT or an OT assessment with a person who is certified in lymphedema treatment. I had 18 lymph nodes removed with one positive. I never had any issues with lymphedema but from day one I was doing exercises. As a therapist, I know my body very well and I knew which exercises I would benefit from and I was extremely cautious. My PT and OT friends who are certified in lymphedema treatment checked me out on a regular basis. It makes me Furious your doctor would not give you a referral. You should not be experiencing this much pain and discomfort.

Jo- thanks for adding the certified LE therapist! So important!! I also should have said OT or PT. I see both! I will add my PT is better with cording and my OT is better with k-tape which is making a HUGE difference!

Denver and Colorado is all over the news for a potential blizzard tomorrow - because of the forecast, in advance, most all of the school districts have already called a snow day for tomorrow!! I'm happy to have the day off - and now I hope it's not as bad as predicted...Denver is predicted to get 4 - 8 inches with winds up to 50mph!!! Actually, it's supposed to start raining around 10pm tonight then turn to snow tomorrow - roads should be nice and icy.
Will get a walk with DH this evening and hopefully I can get one in the morning before it gets back.
Regarding LE - I remember my breast surgeon saying she only took the 1st layer of lymph nodes to reduce the risk of LE - I had axillary dissection as we knew before bilat that I had lymph node involvement on the BC side. Thankfully 13 years later I'm still fine, but I know that LE can show up at any time.

vargadoll- I'm better with cording than I am with the K Tape. Go figure. It still pisses me off when a doctor dismisses a patient's pain complaints ir s/s of LE. Don't you ever feel like screaming at the doctor" Listen to me . Look at me but most of all Listen to me.

Hi All. This past weekend I had my annual Girl Weekend with 8 friends. We all grew up together, went through school together, know each other's families when we were growing up, etc. We live in different locations now so when we have our Weekend it's all talk, talk, talk, eat, and of course drink!
I've been walking/running every day since I last posted except when it's raining.
Sending Safe Thoughts to everyone in the path of the blizzard and winter storm that's developing.

Cheryl, could you get your oncologist or general practitioner to prescribe PT and/or OT? It would be worth a try.

Karen, quit sending us your weather!!! That horrible storm is supposed to get here tomorrow night & we will be in full blizzard mode all Thursday. Luckily our school has a spring break already scheduled for Thursday/Friday. SIGH.
I subbed again today (in a busy but much better class!), did some time on the treadmill & a yoga DVD before going to my Book Club meeting. I need to get all my running around tomorrow if the weather is going to be rotten later!

Wonderland- Bernie loves to be petted under his chin! We are thankful he is doing so well. He's our "rainbow kitty" we got him when we had kitten that had obvious neuro problems from birth died 2 days before he turned a year old. It was a double heart break when. He suddenly was in distress!
Ruth and Karen- Lawd! Will it ever stop?!? We have had as much rain as you guys have had snow!
Jo- first signs of cording I called my BS (breast surgery or bull shit take your pick!) I was shrugged off! I didn't know who to call was my first problem! 3 weeks after my first call to BS I had my mapping out for rads. RO took one look at me a immediately made the referral! It took 6 weeks to get an appointment. I you tubed cording and taught myself to pop cords! I was still a mess before the first appointment! That was almost 12 weeks after my first call! So yes. ..I get so angry! So do the therapist I see. They actually have had team meeting to attempt to get a eval before surgery! (Jo- what's your thoughts on popping cords? Some say yes some say no. I say it feels better lol)
Still doing my DVD'S. I'm a little jealous of you gals who get to go to real classes! Or go for real runs! Before LE I could run and push my girl at a few parks and lakes around my house. With the LE it's to big of a risk to push a 110 pound kid in a 27 pound stroller for 3 miles! Slow casual walk I can do but not a run

So far its raining, cold and windy, so don't think I'm getting a walk this morning - maybe when it's light out. I might even walk in the snow but not ice
My girlfriend who is turning 88 next week - her son is having sinus surgery today - last night she called me saying she had no one to sit with her at the hospital and since school were closed would I come sit with her - I felt a little guilted into to. I told her if the roads and weather were okay. HIs surgery is at noon and the weather is supposed to turn south around 11 - increasing winds and snow - supposed to be the worse from 11 - 4. I told her that I would let her know this morning. It probably won't be bad when they leave for the hospital, but by the time I would leave will be a different story - the hospital is only 4 miles away, but as much as I care for her, I'm not going to drive if its bad out.

The Walking Women celebrated St. Patrick's Day early and I went to lunch Barre. Everything is shutting down early and closed tomorrow as we await the 'bombcyclone'. I need to find some flashlights just in case the power goes.

This is what it looked like about 11:30 this morning - and yes DH and I went for a walk - going to try one more time before dinner. This is one storm that the weather forecasters were spot on - snow started when they said it would....early this morning it looked fine, till the winds started - by 10:30 is was awful - The city is shut down - all the runways at the airport are shut down.....Wonder what tomorrow morning will bring for the drive to work.
Decided to be a little productive and do some dusting that I never do and go through stuff - still a ton more to do, but it will have to wait for another day.

It's just starting now. I am HOPING we are too cold for the ice/sleet/freezing rain and will 'only' get the foot of snow & high, high winds. Very scary.
I have some sad news to report. Stella, the little grand-puppy we dote on, has been battling something called Water Diabetics (and the vet thinks other medical issues as well) since January. None of the several medications that were tried were helping. Yesterday Stella collapsed, and despite the vet's best efforts and all our love, she died earlier today. She was only 2 1/2 years old and just a delightful little dog. Those of you fellow pet-lovers know how sad we feel.

Karen-I love the snow pics. Today was ridiculously hot and humid. I ran in a tank top and shorts and was soaking wet within minutes. I'm a little envious of your cooler weather but not too much.
Vargadoll- I am all for popping the cords with caution. If you do not know what you're doing you can cause further injury. The process should always be very slow and gentle. I'm with you it feels good when it pops.LOL
