Took a long walk this morning, cleaned the entire 2nd floor of my house, including 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and spent a good chunk of the day outside with my kids (6 & 4), who both learned to ride bikes without training wheels. Whew!! It was a good day, but I’m exhausted.

Its still been cloudy and grey out - I think we got to 50 today but it didn't feel that warm. Rain tonight, cloudy tomorrow and then sunny and high 60s and low to mid 70s for the week-end.

Ready for the school years to be over! Its been a relatively calm week - catching up on paperwork. Tomorrow is my central team SW/SP end of year little celebration. There are about a dozen or so of us in a variety of different SP or SW . responsibilities. Work first, then fun after 3:30. It is at my supervisor's house - will get to play with her 5 1/2 month old!!

As much as I'm ready for the year to be over, I signed up for a 2 day training in mid June - haven't received confirmation yet so not sure if it is full or not.

Ruth - when does the school year end by you?

Yesterday was beautiful after two days of cold and cloudy weather so I got the dog walked and spent about an hour and a half weeding along my walk and planting a flat of annuals. Probably going to head back to the garden shop today since I have four more pots I could plant.

Yay, Wonderland that you mowed without the afib acting up! Mowing may be on my agenda today if it dries out enough.

Karen, our year is done Friday. I'm subbing these last two days for a friend (which proves that I am crazy!).

Perfect weather day. I mowed front and back lawn since it is supposed to rain sometime tomorrow. I planted some lettuce and another pot of flowers and repotted my Christmas cactus to a bigger pot. Now I am read for a long shower.

Hi everyone - I hope all of you are having a good week. Mine just got better with the pathology report. We got clean margins on the lumpectomy and the eight nodes that were removed (I thought it was only 4) were clean. Now onto chemo and Herceptin. I am hoping I can get a few runs in before I start so I can feel healthy again

    Great news, dogmom!

I just had one of the most disturbing days ever. I subbed in 6th grade today & last period a 'lock down' code came over the intercom; which meant we locked the classroom door, turned out the lights, closed the blinds & all crammed together the far corner of the room. After about 20 minutes, we came to realize that this was not a drill. Half the kids were so scared that they were almost crying & the other half were arming themselves with scissors. Finally, to keep everyone calm, I grabbed the flashlight & book I always bring with me & read to them until an 'all clear' was announced. What had happened was that a student was coming up the sidewalk at the high school carrying a rifle (it turned out to be an air gun, but nobody knew that at the time). The security cam in the office spotted him and automatically locked all the doors so he didn't get in; but until the police apprehended him, they locked down all the other schools too just to be safe. I wasn't all shook up until I got home & had a chance to think about it. What a horrible world we are giving to the next generation. Anyway, I went to a very hard Step class & yoga both just to try to shake it off. I'm back in the same class tomorrow & will maybe stop on my way to school & buy some donuts. We probably all need a sugar infusion!

That is awful, ruth!! Almost incomprehensible. I really admire you for staying calm and feel so sorry for all the kids. You are all in the frontlines, it seems, of some strange war. When will it end?

    Wonderful news, dogmom.

Had a long walk with a friend yesterday.

Ruth - that's horrible. I can't imagine how the kids feel when that happens. Akin, I guess to when they did the bomb drills in the 60's (I think they mostly happened then). Of course the bombs never dropped so everyone came to regard it as somewhat nonsense. But this, this is real. And unfortunately happening all too often. I hope your step class and yoga helped some to shake it off

Ruth your experience makes me so so sad. Likelihood of a shooter is much higher than the bomb drills in the 60s. Ugh.

And Dogmomrunner- congrats on clean surgery. Deep relief. Onwards and upwards, keep running!

It has been raining here for 2 straight weeks. Getting grumpy. Going to the gym but I want to ride my bike! I think we are driving to Vernal Utah, where it is supposed to be nicer. Sure do hope so...

    yay for good results Dogmomr!!

So scary, Ruth...I went through those bomb drills in the sixties and I still am scarred. I can't imagine what it is like for kids these days. We need to do better for our kids and for all of you who work in schools....

The last day of school has ended with nothing but the normal end-of-the-year craziness to report. Whew!

I took the grand-dogs for a long walk when I got home, which we all enjoyed. I would like to get flowers planted, but we have been dodging rain all week (it was pouring down this morning, and I am hearing thunder again right now), so we shall see.

Ruth - lockdowns are so scary, especially when you finally find out the reason after its over. Sure hope the kids with the rifle was just making a poor choice carrying it and did not intend harm. And good for the school picking it up on the security camera.

A first in over 27+ years as a school psych. I emailed a teacher on August 27 about a student when I covering a school for a vacancy. The SW started mid September and I stepped out of the position. The teacher responded to my email last night - 9 months later with only 4 days of school left!!!! Geeze - wasn't he worried before!!

3 days to go and my school year is over. I don't work Fridays but I do check emails so I ended up doing about an hour of work today, but it was to my advantage. So my Tuesday which was wide open is now filling up which is good. Wednesday I have my last day at a school that I'm helping cover maternity leave and then my last day Thursday will be to finish up my paperwork for the year. Mostly IEP/medicaid documentation.

Sunday DH and I are going to get flowers for the rock garden/fountain and some more little shrubs/green plants for our zero-scape/rock front yard then plant them. Lots of weeks to pull in part of the back yard and DH needs to mow the little bit of front lawn that we have.

My gf's daughter graduated med school today - so she is hosting a Shabbat dinner graduation celebration. So now cooking today. But I still need to go vacuum the house etc.

The sun finally came out today - not too hot so it is nice out - 70s tomorrow!

Have a good Friday night and Saturday

Ruth, I feel your fear. And it is amazing that you turned to the calm power of books to soothe. I leave our lockdown drills feeling so angry; angry that our country cannot make schools safe for our children, who are of late the first ones to apprehend a shooter, with scissors or their lives. Ugh. I’m glad you’re having a long long break called summer.

We are at the Jersey Shore for Memorial Day Weekend. Been running and yogaing more regularly.

OMG, Ruth. I am sick and tired and angry about these incidents. Thank god no one was physically hurt, but what about the emotional damage. We have to do something different.

I go around absolutely disgusted. The same people who pontificate on 'the sanctity of life' are the ones who are blocking any sensible gun control measures & are gutting education and mental health programs. What a sad legacy we are leaving our children......

On the brighter side.....the toning DVDs I do at home are just not challenging me enough; so I went to a Strength & Conditioning class at my fitness center this morning and my goal is to make it to at least two dedicated classes a week. After that I raced out and made two trips to the flower shops; buying lots of flowers, herbs, peppers, strawberries, and a rhubarb plant (I must be in the person in the world who has killed a rhubarb plant. They are usually indestructible!). I then spent the next four hours planting all of the above. I am going to be SORE tomorrow!

I agree with you Ruth. Sensible gun laws are way past due. To me it's like healthcare, preventative measures are much better than dealing with the consequences. Beautiful flowers! I have a serious black thumb when it comes to gardening andadmire everyone else's gardening skills.

Beautiful flowers, Ruth. That will heal the soul.

I went for a walk at the lake yesterday after the rain and clouds cleared out. I also picked up hedge clippings, because my yard is a never-ending workout.

I recognize some people here. May I join?

My neurologist has told me no weight-bearing exercise because of peripheral neuropathy. I had been going to the gym and working on the treadmill. So I switched to recumbent bicycle. Friday it was raining in the morning, so I did my upper body and belly work. Then the rain quit and I did 33 minutes and 100 calories of work on the bike, plus another round of upper body and belly work and the balance ball timed at five minutes.

Saturday I went to the gym and did 33 minutes and 100 calories, but skipped the rest, promising myself to do upper body and belly work at home. Nope. OH well-- after all, what did I do on Friday?

Today I talked with a friend after Mass, and she and her husband think their plowing friend can do my new garden. I have been waiting for my sister and bil to get here to do it on a rain-free weekend. This is the first one in ages, and they were in Texas. In the afternoon, rode my scooter to gym, and did 100 calories in 31 minutes, as well as upper body, belly, and balance work. Rode scooter to grocery store for smoothie ingredients, and sweetener for canned mint tea concentrate recipe I am developing (I have a rapidly growing mint patch). Noted on the way home that they have not yet started to fill the swimming pool. Still a bit chilly and school is not yet out-- snow day makeups until the seventh.

Hopefully the garden will soon be ready for planting. I have strawberry plants in pots waiting, as well as Brussels sprout plants. Eager to go to Mennonite store in the area, which has a greenhouse. That will all give me some exercise.

Planted flowers in the backyard waterfall garden and some greenery for the zero-scape front yard - and before dinner we got a hail storm - DH put one of his coats over the flowers - petunias and geraniums and we think they are okay.

Pulled weeds and now my lower back is on fire - sure hope the acetaminophen helps - I can't take any NSAIDS

Spent a couple hours looking for accommodations for this summer - whenever I spend time like that on the computer I feel like I wasted time - but I think we have it narrowed down to 2 places that DD and DH like - I'm not as fussy!!!

Need another walk tonight - hope the weather holds out..

I am all sore from my gardening spree too, Karen.

I need to walk around the house for a couple minutes to get my last 800 steps for the day!

Am on dog duty today so will get some dog walking in.

Yesterday was also a lot of walking in a huge cherry orchard and berry farm.

We voted a week ago to tighten gun control laws in accordance with new EU rules, which had also tightened up after the attacks in Paris.

MCBaker, welcome and good workouts you've created. Just a thought, a possibility of non-weight bearing, matwork Pilates. Springflowers, good to read you back. Ruth and all who work in schools with such drills, how dreadful. The world we live in now, huh? Falconer, daily yoga and running, you go girl!

Today is a holiday here in the UK and happily have the day off. Lunch out with DH, May invoice billing and housework are on my to do list. Maybe a bit of yoga later. On the going to hell in a handbasket front, we've just witnessed more of a rise of the far right in the UK. An assembly of ultranationalists, fantasists and morons with massive public support. Sound familiar? Have a good start to the week everyone!

I am using a few Pilates. On my back, butt up in the air. Hold as long as I can, repeat. In my front, knees on the mat, arms holding myself up, hold as long as I can, repeat. They are modified because I can't do the more strenuous forms, yet.

I am wondering if the internet, with every literate person having the ability to participate as media, has had a sinister effect on the political scene. Brexit would be a disaster, in many ways.

I woke up this morning and could barely move - back pain brought me to tears - a shower, 2 extra strength acetaminophen and moving around a bit has helped. I may break down and take ibuprofen even though I'm not supposed due to kidneys, but will hold out. The way I hurt this morning, was glad it was not a work day or I would have never made it. So much I want to do today but not sure what will aggravate my back.

Our flowers survived the second hail storm last night. Soil is soaked. Bought more flowers today - 3 small geraniums and a package of 6 wave petunias (they spread more) to plant if the soil dries out a little with the sun. That should take care of the garden.

Narrowed it down to 2 places - want to make a decision today - for trip to visit DD#2.

My late father served in S. Korea with the Canadian Armed Forces - he was so proud of his service. Thank you to all the veterans who gave their all to keep us free and to those who continue to serve.

Well, I'm going to see if a walk helps. Enjoy the day. Karen

ruth- love the pictures of your walking women's group.

Karen-octo- it's hard to believe you guys are still dealing with snow. Looks beautiful though.

Tennessee was extremely hot. Average 93 degrees with high humidity. I had a great time and Tennessee chauffeuring my aunts and mother from place to place. My 98 year old aunt is doing fantastic. She still lives independently in her own home. She works in the garden early in the morning before it becomes too hot. She has minimal memory deficit. She is starting to struggle to recall names of individuals she doesn't see or talk to regularly. For lunch, she cooked a 14 pound country ham, fried chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower souffle from her garden , homemade biscuits and iced tea. She also made vegetarian green beans and carrots . She did remember I didn't eat meat. Now that spring is here she tends to her roses daily. She has some beautiful rose bushes. My mom and I did a 4 mile hike to Pinnacle Point in the Cumberland Gap area of Tennessee. It was a steep climb but absolutely beautiful when we arrived to the Pinnacle. Ruth- you were right about the money. I forgot about what this trip is costing me almost immediately . It was wonderful creating new memories with my family. The very best part. Drumroll, please. My mother and Aunt said this would be their last road trip because they realized it was too much for them. They will take short trips 2 -3 hours long.

I worked on piecing a quilt-top, read, talked to my sister about getting my garden plowed. I also did my upper-body work with my three-pound twins, did my floor-work, including a total of 30 sit-ups. It rained almost all day. Not in the morning, but predictions were for it to start real soon for three hours, and I did not chance having to ride my scooter in the rain. Took my blood pressure a number of times and consistently around 150. I have a checkup with my doctor late next week.
