5 mile tempo run this morning with 3 miles of it at half marathon pace and a nice 1 mile walk with dog for my cooldown. Have a 5k, 10 mile race and 2 half marathons coming up this fall so adding in some speedwork to my regular runs now. Will go to my abs, back and booty class this evening at gym.
Ruth...We have only been there 1x so far this summer. But had their amazing Thai pizza that time and nachos!! This past weekend we ate at the Mexican restaurant in front of our campground. Too many awesome choices and delicious food down there.
Off to my 3m check up with my oncologist. I believe he told me after Decemeber I will be 2 yrs out from chemo (finished chemo Nov 2017) and I will switch to 6 month appts then. Does this sound right? Thinking of requesting a referral to a dietitian. Gained a couple pounds this winter and have not been able to shake them off. Damn menopause!

Jo, what an angel baby! Runnermum looks like a relaxing vacation. Claire that will be a fun trip and agree with having a vacation or bucket list item in the making. Karen, stairs are a different ballgame even when you are a walking fool. A few times practicing and you will be surprised how much easier it gets.
My mom was going to give me her sterling and china but I have no where to put it, honestly, and wouldn’t use it much. I think I relate to the younger generation in that way.
We are paying for our lovely perfect weather day by getting thunderstorms for several days. After the rain ended yesterday got out for a walk with DH, and all the walkers and kids were out, too.

I gave my good bone china away years ago. I still entertain and enjoy having large dinners for family and friends. I love to use my good Crystal wine glasses and depression glass. They are not family heirlooms and many have been broken throughout the years. I enjoy setting a lovely table but I and more interested in the social aspect of dining. I still admire my friends and family members who set beautiful tables for the holidays. I've never had silver because of my lack of desire to clean it.

Jo - when I have company, we generally use paper goods!!! But my older daughter uses her china.
Went into the crawl space with DH this afternoon to show him what I had done and what was his to take care of - well at least 3 boxes we articles from my M.S. degree - they went into recycling and trash - we found a few keep sakes - the guest book from his Bar Mitzvah in 1968, his high school year book and a few other things. I found some music books - I'll give those away - I played flute in high school and we have a piano - I didn't look to see what instrument they are from. I need to give my flute away - my folks bought it in 1970 and payed about $150 for it - I wonder what it is worth today!!! No sentimental value to the piano, but it is 49 years old!!! The piano, has sentimental value - my grandparents bought it for my mother when she was a little girl. It is an upright, I think spinnet - it is from at least the 1930s - it is furniture - my older daughter took piano lessons for many years but no one else.
I'm done for now in the crawl space - still lots more to do - but it will have to wait. I also need to go through the furnace room - I still have lots of stuff from Mom that I have not gone through - mostly avoidance - but that will be my next task.
Walked this morning with one gf who I haven't seen in 2 years - tomorrow walking with another gf.

I am having reconstruction on Friday. In preparation for that, I cleaned my apartment in the morning. Laundry. I also ironed the doilies I got at the parish rummage sale. My home decor theme is old lace. Perhaps I ought to check out the play.
In the afternoon, I borrowed a friend's car and went to the food pantry, where I hadn't been for over a year and a half. I got a distraction from the stated mission of getting ingredients for frozen meals. They threw a flat of blackberries at me and another five containers of cherries. I made fourteen half-pints of blackberry jam, and will make some cherry jam, or maybe some cherry pie filling in pints. That is OK, because I will have time to mull over the frozen soups, etc I will be making from the rest. I got a huge load of zucchini. HELP!! But first I enjoy it in soups.

Mostly core and legs today, a bit of upper body. But my left breast is mad at me with the radiation so I dialed upper body back today.

mcbaker- finally your reconstruction date is almost here. That's great. When you write about making jams and Pie fillings it reminded me of my grandmother. She used to love she used to love to make blackberry pies.
Edj3- if your radiated side is sensitive be really careful.
I don't know what happened last night. I fell asleep while doing paperwork. I usually go to bed between 12:30 and 1 in the morning and last night I fell asleep about 8:30 and woke up about 11:30. I guess my body needed the rest. Chemo gave me insomnia plus all these miserable thunderstorms lately have kept the dogs awake all night. If they're awake all night so am I. I've never been a morning person but I woke up early today. I worked out with my balance ball and an 8 lb medicine ball.

Jo - I've had insomnia for years - since Dx - its not as bad as it used to be - but the past few nights have not been good. I went to bed early - 10:30 and I was up at 12:15, 3 and then 5:15 - When you get up at 5:15, by 7:30 its seems like half the day is over. I told my DH to call my someone and then realized it was too early!!! During the work year, I need to get up around 5:15 to 5:45 to be able to leave at 7 is I want to get a walk in, so my body is used to getting up early.
Been good with walking - one of these days I will add other types of exercise to my routine - of course I've been saying that for years!

Hi Everyone! Been walking since the last time I posted.Today was mow day. I mowed the backyard for 1 hour and 40 minutes followed by a little yard work. Dh mowed the front yard.

Did a 4 mile run this AM; my son's built me a training plan for a 10k in September. Always good to have goals to work toward--this will be the first race since I fractured my pelvis a year ago.

Weights today. Pec's still aching, I will be glad to be done with radiation tomorrow so I can heal up.

I continue to visit my elderly neighbor in the hospital daily. I take advantage of the stairs in the surgery unit. I've been walking 10 to 20 flights of stairs daily. Yesterday was the first day I felt a little short of breath on the 10th floor. I continued to do five more flights but I felt the exertion. No leg strain just my breathing.I want to see what happens today when I go to the hospital.

My 91 year old MIL was admitted to the hospital with cellulitis last night. My BIL lives by her so he is keeping my DH posted. On pins and needles waiting for more information. Please keep her in your thoughts or prayers however you believe. DH is trying to figure out when he should fly in to be with his mother.

Thanks Ruth. My MIL is in Columbus, Ohio. My DH spoke to her pcp this morning. She is on IV antibiotics and will be in the hospital a couple more days. DH is waiting till she is home to go out so he can help.

I did 10 flights at the hospital today but I definitely felt some shortness of breath when I'm near the 10th floor. I plan on running a few miles on the treadmill tonight. I feel I'm not getting a good stride on the treadmill. It's in the low to mid-90s daily now and I cannot tolerate running in this heat.

edj3- the weather is horrible now at all times of the day and night. How do you tolerate the extreme heat?

Well it helps I run outside year round so I get acclimated (as much as that can happen) as the seasons change. And I truly don't run during the day. Sometimes on Saturday, I get a later start than I want and I always regret it b/c the sun just makes thing so much hotter.
But I do have a cut off, both cold and hot. Generally I won't run much below 10F unless there's zero wind and no ice or snow. On the other end, the cut off depends on the humidity. If the heat index is creeping up to the mid or upper 80s, forget it. But that usually doesn't happen at 4:30 AM (thankfully).

Karen: Glad your MIL is in the hospital and getting IV meds. My dh's aunt is 98 and a couple of years ago she was hospitalized with cellulitis. As we all know, it's some nasty stuff. Praying that your MIL will respond well to the antibiotics. I'm sure she'll appreciate your dh staying with her when she gets home.

edj3- in Miami we've been in the high 90s and even the low 100s with the heat index and humidity. Which I'm not a morning person but maybe I'll set my alarm for 5:30 in the morning and see if that makes a difference. Thanks

Hi, I am back from my girlfriend jaunt. We mostly visited and ate (yikes!), but on Tuesday we spent the afternoon at the wonderful Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. It has 48 specialty gardens, many shrub and tree collections, walking paths, trams, shuttles, waterfalls, a Sculpture Garden, environmental models, natural areas and much more. We weren't dressed for hiking (we went straight from there to the nearby Chanhassen Dinner Theater). But I got in about 8,000 steps just strolling around. Tomorrow DH & I are going out of town overnight to a Creedence Clearwater Revival concert. So......today I tried to exercise as much as possible. I went to Zumba & yoga this morning, walked the puppies this afternoon, and went to Dance2Fit & another yoga class tonight.

I did it, ran all the way through radiation treatments. It was 74F and 87% humidity this morning and I'm a glorious sweaty mess.

I love this thread, although I don't post much. It inspires me every single day: the conversations and support and commitment everyone shares.
I have come to the San Juan Islands (in WA, north of Seattle) each June, for about 12 years, with a friend, and she and I usually bike 15-25 miles each day for 7-8 days. Last year, NO, because of my rebuilding-a-foot surgery right before Naughty Cell Attack in my breast was diagnosed. BAD 2018. Anyway, now I've been back to exercising just my 1 hour per day of water fitness, + hiking and bike rides when possible. Feeling pretty strong, and despite also feeling ancient and fragile, I can do this bike trip again! It's day 5 today, and we've biked 15-23 miles each day. Beautiful scenery, and LOTS of hills, but we take it slow to look at eagles and gorgeous vistas, and we have a lot of snack stops. Here I am on Cattle Point Road, on San Juan Island.
