pat-nice to know you have been doing well. The heat has left me unmotivated to run. I'm bored with running on the treadmill. Today I am going to try an early morning run or power walk. Have a great day.

Well, I said I was going to try and stay up to date and it hasn't happened yet! It's been such a busy summer! Just got back from Pawleys Island. It's a beautiful place! I was averaging 8 miles a day walking on the bike paths. That's walking pushing my 110 pound girl in her 27 pound stroller. Running around like crazy here at home getting ready for the 4th. Aslo went to Dollywood on Sunday and got 11 miles in walking there. No real scheduled exercise just life happening here. Keep moving ladies you all amaze me with how much you can do in a day! Neat wall at Dollywood in the new Wildwood Grove section that just opened May. It was hot so my face is red..here a rare photo of me. I hate having my picture taken but couldn't resist the butterfly.

    Vargadoll, what a great photo!

My sis and I did a quick 2.6 mile hike here in Stanley, ID. We're at nearly 7000 feet elevation so that got the heart going. I may be paddle boarding later today, depends on how cold the water is.

    Fun, Varga!!

I went to PiYo this morning & may go to a Barre or Strength class later today. We always have friends over for a picnic on the 4th of July so I'm running around getting groceries, getting the yard in shape, cleaning the house etc. etc.

5.6 mile hike today with a friend, at Cape Horn, about 45 min from Portland. It's on the Washington side of the Columbia River, so we're across the river from Oregon. Cool and misty and drizzly today, so we got a tiny bit damp. image

hikinglady- beautiful pic. Congratulations on a nice hike. I agree with Ruth. It is so much fun living vicariously through one another's vacation pics. I love it.. Through viewing all these wonderful pictures over the past several months, I've been to ( in my mind) the Swiss Alps, UK, Pawley Island, North Dakota, Israel, Portugual and so many more wonderful places. As far as I'm concerned keep the pictures coming.

I did drag my sorry butt out of bed at 6 a.m. this morning. I did a 3-mile power walk. I chose not to run because it was so dark out this morning. I'm not a morning person but it was a cooler walk. I'm going to try again tomorrow morning but will have reflective lights on my clothing. The added benefit I'm half asleep.

Varga I love your wings! You look lovely.

Hiking lady it looks like you’re in a sweet spot.

    Hi Fit Friends

I didnt want to complain so I haven’t posted much this week. But here goes bc I’m not getting relief. Running has been difficult as muscle cramps and calf pain have made everything so tight. I actually was forward bending AFTER a run and had a muscle cramp in my abdominal muscles. Honestly, if I didn’t know how to breathe thanks to yoga I probably would’ve needed an ambulance. It finally relaxed after some deep breathing exercises.

My last run was last Thursday. I have developed an intense knot in the arch of my foot. Some women on this site have discussed plantar fasciitis but Doctor Google led me to a condition called plantar fibroma. All signs point to nasty old Tamoxifen as the cause of all this misery. I wonder if being more active creates more trouble. My mom was on Tam 25 years ago and she had no issues. The good news is that my foot did not trouble me during yoga class on Sunday. Stretching seems to help some.

What are your thoughts? I have to look for a supplement that’s in tonic water- don’t like to drink too much before bed bc then I don’t sleep.

Sorry for the complaining. Thanks for listening.

Falconer-ouch! I hope you get some relief and come up with a plan that works! Glad you were able to get your stretches in on Sunday. Stretching makes a huge difference for me. My LE side can get so tight!

Ruth- you are always so active! We are having the family over for the 4th and I need to get to Sam's.

    Hikinglady- gorgeous picture!

Edj3- I'm not a fan of cold water. Was the water warm enough to paddle board?

I took 3 of the 6 grandkids, my daughter and my girl to the ball game last night. I havent been to baseball game since 2011! We had so much fun! I ended the day with 24,567 steps. I guess I could consider that walk from the parking lot a hike!

Falconer, that sounds terrible. Any chance hot weather is contributing to this? Also, this is partly what makes me reluctant to take tamoxifen, those kinds of debilitating side effects that make doing things I love to do nearly impossible :(

We ended up not paddle boarding--the water was really cold but it was mostly because the wind was tremendous. My family very nicely said hey we don't want you falling and inadvertently slowing down your healing from surgery and radiation. OK OK so for once I listened.

Falconer Ask your doctors about both quinine & magnesium to help with cramping. I know two people who have been helped by those, but this is NOT medical advice, just a suggestion of two things to ask about. So sorry about this! I was on Tamoxifen for 5 years, and stayed very active, and did not have problems.

Have you thought about having a podiatrist take a look at your foot to diagnose what's going on? My podiatrist has helped me through several serious foot issues.

I also really enjoy everyone’s pictures. It is fun to see other parts of the country and world and what inspires you to exercise. How else can I go to Washington, Switzerland, Minnesota and Dollywood in one week?

Summer came on with a vengeance and it has been hot and humid the last several days. I managed to continue by hiking shadier paths and lots of ice water. OK I confess I also treat myself with iced coffe afterwards! So got in a lot of exercise until DS ended up in the hospital and now my exercise has been walking the parking lots and the hospital. I did get up early today and took the dog for a walk. We should escape the hospital today and I will get back to more exercise. I had started to get acclimated to the heat and humidity so I will be interested to see if that is still the case

falconer- it's good to hear stretching helps with your foot pain. If it continues I agree with hikinglady about seeing a podiatrist . If there is still minimal relief maybe consider a physical therapy assessment. I don't know anything about tamoxifen. Is it possible to lower the dosage if it is the culprit?

Vargadoll- what a stunning picture of you and the butterfly.

Edj3- I took your advice and started power walking and running very early in the morning. I've done it the past 2 mornings. I do have to acclimate to the darkness but low 80s beats the heck out of mid-to-high 90s.

I just want to chime in on the leg cramping which is a very real affliction of those of us who cycle long distances, especially in hot, humid weather. Electrolyte drinks exist for a reason. My worse experience was a tent which wasn't set up properly and the need for a quick midnight trip to a porta-potty. Plus leg cramps.

For the Seattle-to-Portland, they hand out some electrolyte tablets which I make sure that I take. They do the trick. They can be found in cycling shops. I don't use them all the time, but I will for the STP. They make all the difference.

For most long rides, I pack electrolyte drinks, not all of which are created equal. Which reminds me that I need a trip to the bike shop prior to the end of next week. So it's really important to stay hydrated in hot weather, including electrolyte replacement. This from someone who has been there. - Claire

p.s. Worse than cramps is convulsions, and I've seen that too on the STP. That is from hours and hours of cycling in hot weather and not enough fluids/electrolytes. It can be that serious.

    Gorgeous, edj!!

Falconer, I'd go straight for a physical therapy evaluation. I wish I had done that FIRST when I had a bad case of tendinitis. I would have gotten better ALOT sooner!! On the self-help side, tonic water & bananas can both help with cramping (some people say a bar of soap under the sheets....which sounds crazy to me). Maybe you are another one of us who needs to switch to a different brand of running shoes as our feet change/age???? If you are post-menopausal you could try another drug, if you aren't you could shut down the ovaries & do so.....but that is pretty extreme.

ruth- what a cool picture for the Walking Women to celebrate the 4th of July.

I ran 2 miles early this morning. It's still very humid but it's much better than running in the evenings. When I run my 5 and 10ks on the weeknd it's early but there's light. Now that Im running at 6 a.m. there's very little light but it has a different kind of energy. I'm still adjusting because I will never be a morning person.

thanks for all of your kind words and encouragement.

Claire, are there electrolyte drinks that you know of that aren’t sugary? Does coconut water work?

Hiking lady, I will look into the quinine and magnesium combo. My doctors don’t seem to have a great grasp on the supplement world, unfortunately. But I’ll see what they say.

And yes I will see the podiatrist. I was hoping this would clear up on its own but it’s been a week and no change...

Edj3- wow. What a beautiful spot.

Happy 4th! Today is especially good for us, as it is my little DSs 6th birthday. He’s the youngest in the family and we are all here together at the beach. Happy Days!

Enjoy the beach, the Birthday and the 4th, Falconer and on the last for all, including the WW women!!! Falconer coconut water works for me but my elecrolyte imbalance may not be as much. I hate those sugary drinks.

edj, what a refreshingly beautiful place and hikinglady, what an awesome pic. Varga, you are a wondrous butterfly.

Today will be plyo day (burpees, squat jumps, hops, etc) if I can make myself get out of my comfort zone. Otherwise it will be just salsa again tonight.

I detest sugary drinks, so when I've done a long run in the heat/humidity, I use the sugar free Propel packets. They can be hard to find, sometimes the regular grocery store has them, sometimes Target. I only care for the lemon one.

I had forgotten about Propel. The big one here is Nuun. I think it's vile tasting. The trend now is towards less sugar, and there are others with no sugar. I forget what they are. As I said, the bike shop usually has quite a selection.

I am off in a bit to cycle 60 miles as need to do miles today to ramp up for the Big Ride in 8 days....YIKES!!!

On the subject of electrolytes. A couple of months ago, I was doing the first metric century of the season. At the second rest stop, a bit more than half way through the ride, my quads were complaining and cramping up a bit. I hit the potato chips. Immediate relief, and I was good to finish the ride. I needed the salt and potassium. I drank some of the electrolyte potion too. - Claire

    With you on Nuun--disgusting.

I ran a short 2 miles again--something near my heart is hurting, maybe a rib, maybe my esophagus, heck maybe my heart. This all started about the third week of rads so I'm hoping it stops ASAP.

    Looking good, Wonderland!

The weather (which has been unsettled) cooperated perfectly and we had a wonderful day for a backyard picnic with family, friends, food & games. I got 10,000 steps just running around being the hostest. DH took a short walk tonight after everyone left and we had cleaned up. A very nice day!
